I have eaten here a few times, and never disappointed. Definitely one of the best restaurants in northern Ky.

I'm glad that I had not read any yelp reviews prior to dining at the Greyhound Tavern this evening. I might not have tried the place. I thought the mashed potatoes were tasty and real! (as opposed to boxed or frozen taters) The open faced oven Turkey was tender, juicy and flavorful. The homemade bead was devoured by all five of us! The only disappointment in the meal was what they call stewed tomatoes, ugh, not! More like chunky, veggie stew, blech. Fellow diners enjoyed the chicken breast dinner, salmon entree, salad and wrap. Had to turn down the dessert menu, simply no room. We will be back. read more

The tavern has a great atmosphere for all ages. I have had their world famous brunch on Sundays and their Fried Chicken on Mondays. This Fried Chicken is the best I have ever had. Accompanied by green beans, slaw, and some homemade delicious biscuits, all I can say is, GOD IS GOOD. read more

Went to this restaurant based on local recommendations. First, the location is cute. The interior looks ok- clean and definitely country. We ordered fried green tomatoes, a personal favorite. They were ok. I have never had them served with pimento cheese on top and Ina tomato sauce. Seemed a bit much. Their fried chicken, I will say, is outstanding. Amazing. They should focus on that alone. The sides were municipal, like what you expect in a school or hospital meal. The chicken was the best. Service attentive. Fills you up, but there may be better choices if you want more than fried chicken. read more

Host (older gentleman) was the worst I have seen in a while. Three of us showed up at 12:30 PM with no reservation and he seated us at the bar, while there were two open available tables unused the entire time we were there. Poor service from a young red headed bartender' not really his fault. Although he failed to provide silverware and napkins after we retuned from the buffet and also failed to remove the used plates, we stacked them up on the bar to make room' the kid needs to be trained. Moreover' he did poor job making bloody Mary's. Food was outstanding in my opinion, fried chicken was juicy, tasty and seasoned perfectly. Ribs were very good too. I especially enjoyed the blackberry cobbler, the woman who baked the cobbler is the kind of woman you marry. Many people sat there waiting for tables while I counted four other empty tables, I suggest you fire the host and hire anybody. Perhaps a semi-trained illiterate adolescent would be a significant improvement. read more

Usually I am a big fan of Greyhound Tavern but when my husband and I took my Father-in-law there for brunch on Father's Day, the disappointment started with waiting 90 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. We saw several tables seated who arrived after us. When I overheard the host tell a group that had come in later than us and had a noon reservation when we had an 11am reservation that they would be seated in just a few minutes, I finally stopped being quite so patient and commented on it to my husband loudly enough for the host to hear. Then he stopped ignoring us and found a table not long after. Service was then so slow that my father-in-law stood up and refilled his own coffee from the pot a waitress had set down nearby. The fried chicken was delicious, as usual, but the bacon on the buffet was anything but crispy, looking almost raw. They clearly over-booked for the holiday and could not keep up. My four star rating is based on many visits. This visit was a 2 star experience at best for a usually 5 star restaurant. read more

I ate at this establishment for the first time last night. I ordered the family style fried chicken. This came with 3 pieces of TO DIE FOR chicken (per person), mashed potatoes & gravy, coleslaw, green beans, and biscuits. I was not disappointed with any of the food, right down to the little packets of sweet butter that came out with the biscuits. The service was outstanding. Our server took the time to talk with us and gave us some history about the Tavern. I can guarantee I will be eating here again. I will also highly recommend this place to anyone that will listen! :-) read more

This is without a doubt one of the best go to local restaurants in the area . They have a varied menu from steaks to burgers. Their onion rings are to die for and a meal in themselves. Their bean soup is excellent. I love their Kentucky Hot Brown. I have never had a bad meal there. read more

Had Mother's Day brunch here and was impressed with the food selection!

Me and my husband ate there recently. It was packed with people. It was our first time eating there. I really wanted to like this place due to the many good reviews i've seen. The decor is nice, but the food was eh. I ordered the fried fish lunch special that came with mac and cheese and green beans. We got some bread too which was good. The fish was good. The mac and cheese was not hot. it was room temperature and reminded me of what you could get from Stouffer's mac and cheese. Didn't really taste 'home made'. The green beans weren't the kind i particularly like. Tasted like they were from a can. My husband got the chicken sandwich and chips. The chips, he was hoping for home made kettle chips, but they tasted/looked just like ruffles potato chips. He said his chicken sandwich was alright. I was thinking this place would be 'down home' 'made from scratch' foods but was disappointed. I probably will not be back to this restaurant. read more

We arrived at 7 pm on our tour bus. 2 other tour buses were just pulling out. I guess they were over worked tonight. We were only given a select few things to order. I choose the rib eye. I asked what size and the waiter said 8 oz. But I could only get it cooked medium, not MR, or rare like I usually get it. I was told it would have no pink inside. Well dang, that's not how to cook a good steak. Luckily it did have a little pink. I guess the cook staff don't want to be bothered by different ordered steaks like most places. The salads came first and they all had ranch dressing. I don't even like ranch. We were not given a choice at all about the dressing. The two sides were mashed potatoes and green beens. They were just ok and nothing to write home about. We were given a choice of desert between blue berry cobbler and a brownie . The two deserts were good but they were so small I could eat it in prolly 4 bites. I wasnt too happy about the choices we were given or some not even at all (dressing). One of the waiters seemed kinda short with us and had a attitude going on. I guess he had too many old people giving him grief tonight. Overall I was disappointed since we drove 30 miles to eat here. I'm sure it would be an ok place to eat most of the time, but not worth going out of your way. Prices are too high and portions too small. read more

I am a big fan of the Greyhound Tavern Fantastic food ( best chicken salad of any place i have ever been) Everything on the menu is fantastic, Clearly my favorite resturant, I love the atmosphere, the old style decor its simply charming. greyhound Tavern...haven't been to this place in years , so i had gift certifcate a friend gave me for our anniversay...we used it on on fathers day. made reservation for 115 and got there early, place was packed and we were seated, in about 15 mins..early of our reservation...we were seated the other end of where the buffet was set up, waiter was great..chicken,poataoes great....feature i was hoping... for the prime rib..omg it was so over cooked...not prime rib..total roast beef..so over cooked..went back after a while to see if new roast was any better actually worse...the chef needs to be told how to cook prime rib.. i should have complained to the chef...figure for $23.00 i was going to something more than chicken and mashed potatoes....wrong! i wont be back!! they better change it ......cant run a restaurant on fried chicken alone!!! read more

The service was fantastic. The food was just okay. My husband had the fried chicken which he loved! Thought it was the best fried chicken he ever had. I had the pecan encrusted chicken and it was small and loaded with sugar (the sweet potato purée tasted like pie and the Carmel sauce was overwhelming) so very one note in flavor. Cold food, bad service, overall awful. The food took forever to come to the table even after several requests asking the server and manager where our food was. When the food finally came out everything that was supposed to be hot was cold. We made the server and manager aware and nothing was done. We will never ever come back. I have been here numerous times in the past, the food and service have always been top notch, so I was really looking forward to going again tonight. The food is still good, but the service was terrible. I was so disappointed. I ordered a drink and we were at a large table so I was not surprised when I did not get it on the waiter's first trip back to the table. We have been to the Greyhound several times for Saturday and Sunday brunches. They were excellent. We had invited friends to dine there with us last night. The servcie was excellent. The waiter was very professional and friendly. My wife and our friends all liked the food. I ordered last night's special, Prime Rib. Without question, this was the worst Prime Rib I have ever encountered. I expect some marbling. This rib had excessive marbling and the rest of the meat was tough and grizzled. Our waiter returned and asked my wife and our friends if their food was good. They responded with yes. He did not ask me how the rib was. I suspect he already knew the answer. As I had asked our friends to come down from west Ohio to try this restaurant, I did not return the meal or make an issue about it. As this was "The Special", the price was not on the menu. The cost was $29 for the rib dinner. I would have ordered it anyway. However, for that price I would have expected a fine quality of meat. My Ceasar salad was excellent as were the cheese stick appetizers. I asked for a box to take home the remaining 90% of my prime rib and gave it to our dog. Even he struggled chewing some of the meat. I will not be returning to the Greyhound. I would have expected, at least a "recommendation" from our server to try another dish rather than the prime rib. Had it been just the wife and I dining I would have returned the steak as inedible. read more

Made reservation for seven and was seated at seven eighteen with no apology. Was slow to get drinks and order taken. Hot meals arrived cold. Waitress pleasant but overworked. It appears if you are not a regular the staff is not interested in your dining pleasure. read more

I've been here half a dozen times in the past couple years, and always got the impression it was a hamburger joint trying to pose as fine dining. Food has been average, prices are high for the quality. Had an experience this weekend that solidified my impression. I was there with a small group for a birthday dinner. We had asked for a quiet table for a surprise birthday dinner, (and because the birthday girl is hard of hearing) and they put us in the loudest room imaginable. Wood floors, wood chairs, wood walls - where every sound seemed to echo and amplify. Most of us got there early, and the birthday girl was brought by one of our party. Even though the restaurant was told this was a surprise party, the hostess commented "party of 8" when the birthday girl was greeted at the door. Surprise blown before she reached the table. My wife and I ordered the NY Strip - mine medium rare, hers medium well - we even discussed it with the waitress - a little bit of pink throughout on medium well. Another person at the table ordered a filet well done. (I know, I know, but that's how they like them.) My steak was served, and it was cooked perfectly, the individual with the petite got hers and it was cooked medium, but she didn't want to send it back. My wife's was well done. This happens occasionally, so no big deal, but it was not what she ordered, so I let the waitress know. First, the waitress tried to inspect the steak and give us her thoughts and convince us the dry, brown meat was medium well. She reluctantly took the plate back to the kitchen. Shortly after, she brought the steak back, now cut in half, and said the chef said he/she would not recook a steak, because they cut into the middle of it, and there was some pink. There may have been, but 90% of it was overcooked. I was more astounded however, that a so called chef would do such a thing. The waitress offered to take it back again, but after this unacceptable and unprofessional response, I was honestly afraid of what they might do to a new steak. Eventually, the manager came to the table, apologized and took it off the check. Nice, and appropriate gesture, but too late. No professional chef who is interested in keeping a customer, and not losing others, would send a steak back to the table in that situation. Needless to say, I would not recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or any occasion for that matter. I was recently at Gibsons in Chicago - granted, a completely different level of restaurant. I ordered my NY medium rare...I cut into it, and it was all the way medium. The waitress happened to see it, and immediately came back to the table and TOLD ME she was going to have it recooked. She brought another steak perfectly cooked. The manager came over and apologized. They took the steak off the check AND brought us out a comped bowl of fresh berries (not on the menu - and the waitress had heard us say we were cutting carbs) for dessert. The Greyhound's Sunday brunch was a good deal when it was $15, way back when, but now that it's $26+, I'm not so sure. We went on Father's Day. Our 11 a.m. reservation wasn't honored until 11:40. The fried chicken is still really good, and the mashed potatoes are real. Most of the other selections are just average. The big disappointment was the prime rib -- way overcooked, gray and chewy. The food overall is decent, but at $26 I expect a lot better. I won't be back on my own dime. read more

The 1st time I ate here I had the famous Fish sandwich - it was good. My friend recommended the Hot Slaw - it was OK but the hog jowl "bacon" kind of grossed me out to think about. This 2nd time I had the famous fried chicken. I don't usually eat fried food - for health reasons, but I tried this on another friend's recommendation - it also was good but then most fried foods TASTE good. It was also very juicy. For $16.50 I got a chicken breast, thigh, leg, and wing plus 2 sides. I tried the mashed potatoes - I asked if they were made from "potato flakes" OR from real, cooked on site potatoes & I was told they were real - they tasted real to me. I didn't get gravy on them - health reasons again. I ordered their famous onion rings and they were fantastic - 4 huge onion rings battered & fried to perfection! I only ate 1 and took the rest plus 2 pcs. chicken home to hubby. Personally, when it is MY choice, I will stick with my long time favorite, classy restaurant (Grand Finale) that has more & better food for my money. This time I was with a group of about 20 women. Our waiter was a very nice young man who seemed new to the restaurant & made some errors (he didn't even ask if we wanted to order dessert, etc), but he kept his cool with all of us and did his best. It was a lot for him to handle! Finally they sent another waiter over to help. read more

Pleasant enough, service was fine, looks like it was THE place to eat probably 30 years ago with a "George Washington ate here" vibe and decor. Food was average with the exception of the fried green tomatoes, onion rings and the chicken salad. while the chicken salad was full of big pieces of chicken it was also full of bland cheap tasting mayo and a few pieces of green stuff...no taste at all. The fruit and muffin that came with it was delicious. Our party ordered two appetizers for the table, the onion rings ( Gigantic breaded rings that looked very good but had zero taste and awfully greasy) and the wonderful fried green tomatoes (Excellent mousse and presentation). The other 4 people in our party had meals that they were mostly pleased with. Prices seemed a bit steep for the quality of the food, almost an up-scale-bland-for the elderly-type food. All in all we had a nice visit but it's not going to be on the list of top 10 places to pick from again. read more

In years past this was a stand out place with excellent food and service. Today its a bit different. The bean soup for example Butches own recipe is not consistent, the beans are always hard and tough. The quantity and quality of food varies. One visit and the food will be great, come back a couple weeks later and order the same thing and the preparation, presentation as well as taste my be totally different The family style chicken dinner for example is usually one of the best around however, go after 7:30pm and the rush and the chicken sometimes, looks and tastes like it was put back in the fryer to reheat. This place seems to be riding on its past reputation and aging customer base. This may change if more consistency is not put into their food preparation and service not to mention well needed change in menu and atmosphere. read more

The deserts and sides are really good too, but the chicken in so bomb that I can't even comment on that. They do have a full bar with a good bourbon selection. This review is for the Saturday brunch. Greyhound has been a place we've enjoyed for dinner so I was excited to try their new Saturday brunch. Hate to say how disappointed I was with what I ordered. The pecan waffle with fresh strawberries and blueberries was mediocre. It did not come with fresh blueberries and strawberries but with the tiniest plastic cup of mushy mixed fruit. The maple butter was rock hard and was difficult to get to melt. I was also disappointed to be served maple flavored syrup in a individual package - the same kind McDonald's uses. I really expected real maple syrup. My husband did enjoy the breakfast brown. How these two meals came out of the same kitchen is baffling. The service was slow and inattentive. My husband had to hunt down creamer for my coffee and refills for the tiny little cup was slow to come. Come on Greyhound I know you are better than this! read more

When we pulled into the parking lot, my first thought was, "this place looks like a funeral home." We ordered our food and the appetizers came out fairly quickly. We sat there for what felt like 2 hours waiting on our food and the tables next to us were receiving their food before us even though they had ordered after us. After over an hour of waiting, our food finally came out. My girlfriend ordered a taco salad with chicken and they gave her beef instead. Frustrated with the waiting time she decided to just eat the beef and not wait on them to remake it, it would have probably taken them another hour to make it. The food was mediocre, nothing special was on their menu. Save yourself some time and money and go somewhere else..... Anywhere else. read more

Our family took our mom to the Greyhound Tavern for her 88th birthday on 08/31/2014. Let me say that I was less than impressed. We had reservations at 5:00 for 10. We still waited for 45 minutes. Once we ordered, things seems to be going well until the food came out. Our mom ordered the Walleye Pike and requested that it be broiled. I confirmed with the server that she wanted it broiled. I was told "no problem". When it cake out, it was deep fried. A sister ordered a pasta dish that was supposed to have mushrooms & tomatoes in the dish. The dish arrived with a total of 4 button mushrooms and no tomato whatsoever. The mushrooms were from a can. A sister in law ordered the Salmon Salad. Although it looked nice, the salmon was still raw in the middle. A brother and his son ordered the fried chicken & loved it. I personally ordered the single pork chop. Although cooked well, the chop was the thickness of the pork that is put on a pork sandwich. It was approximately 1/4 " thick. For the prices charged, the meals were a very big disappointment. My final opinion on this or any dining establishment is always based on the following. Regardless of the price or service, was the food good enough to come back & dine again. Arrived around 6:00 and ordered around 6:15 and waited an hour for food. Table behind us arrived 25 minutes after us and had their dinner finished when our food came. Manager gave excuses that they were busy and they couldn't put our order ahead of others, even tho we never asked for that to happen. He offered ice tea as a consolation prize which was silly. Promised our food would be out soon and we waited 10 more minutes. Apparently their business is so good they didn't care about our bad experience. Left at 7:50 pm. Cannot recommend at all. read more

I tried to eat at Greyhound Tavern tonight. The server was very friendly. The menu had a listing for a biggie burger. It was listed as a large double decker burger. When it arrived the burger was not visible under the bun. I lifted the bun and found two patties so small the they were completely covered by the two pickles! I asked the waitress if it looked like a biggie burger and she agreed that it was indeed really small. She took it back and when she came back she said she was yelled at for returning it because the size was correct and indeed this was the BIGGIE Burger! I told her to take it back that it was not worth eating. She asked if I would like to order anything else. The manager then came to the table to infirm me that I was wrong and the Biggie burger was indeed this size! I told him he needed to rename the biggie burger a double slider. The rest of the food was good but don't expect anything approaching a normal burger or customer service from this place! read more
