Used Griffith to install new HV/AC system at our sons property 3 years ago. Two weeks ago they were out because of intermittent heat , replaced a capacitor and worked for a week then on blink again. Today Alanna from parts calls me and states blower motor will not be available for at least 45 days and when I ask what to do without heat in zero degree weather I hear crickets. No other option or recommendations and absolute no empathy with being without heat. I ran the model numbers and google searched the part myself and it comes right up with motor availability. When I asked about this they state they cannot just replace motor with another brand. Well I will be moving on from Griffith and will replace the motor myself. Last week in anticipation of the coming cold weather, I ordered a fuel delivery with a rep at the office scheduled for today, 12/23/24. Did not come! Forget all about trying to talk to anyone at that place because you will be told a bunch of "stuff." Emergency calls are treated like I'm an idiot. So I'll spend my time this coming week calling and checking references of other companies. I've been with this bunch for a long time and this is not acceptable. I was a client of Jones Rogers AC and Heating from 1995 until company was sold to Griffith Energy. Needless to say service declined when the company went from a family owned business till now. I have had a service contact to have my AC and heating serviced for the last 26 years but now can not even get a return call. My AC/heat pump is in the attic - due to the fact that it did not have a float ball or p-trap the pan filled up over a period of time while I was away - came back to massive water damage and now have a Mammoth insurance claim. All I am trying to do is get either the float or Ptrap installed before the repair work begins and I have the same problem. The technician came out on July 16 to blow out drain...and wrote on receipt/work order to have Chris call about replacing the AC system - that was 5 1/2 weeks ago and have not received a call. Obviously at this point if I do need to replace the AC system it will not be done by Griffith. read more

I can honestly say the only reason I stayed with Griffith Energy Services is because of Gary, one of the employees. He is honest, and very helpful. If it weren't for Gary I would still be waiting to have my new oil tank set up. Griffith is very lucky to have such a dedicated employee; I would highly recommend anyone who wants an honest, trustworthy employee to assist them and treat them like a customer instead of a number to request Gary. I called them Thursday night for non emergency AC help. No call, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Called back on Monday they had no history of my previous calls. This was ABSOLUTELY a horrible experience. I live out of the area and I am asking that service be provided to the location in the area they service. I am ASSURED that the service will be done and I am given dates that I am promised the service would be completed by. The following week (after finding out service was NOT provided when I was told it would be) I call to follow up. I am told that the services WERE provided THREE days AFTER I was told they would be completed. When I address this with TARA (Customer service rep on phone) I was told "I gave you the dates the service was provided so what do you want me to do about it" First of all I want YOU to learn PROPER customer service and second I want YOUR COMPANY to learn that when they tell a PAYING CUSTOMER they will provide a service on a certain day that they DO IT!!! Needless to say, TARA was QUICK to tell me what my balance owed was so let's see, maybe I should wait for a while to submit payment since they felt it was OK to complete service whenever they wanted to (which was not when I was told it would be done). Is it possible to give less than one star? Let me just say, this company has left us without heat in the dead of winter for six days. Six. days. I have already communicated this to multiple customer service representatives, but the below issues are unacceptable. Heat is not a luxury item. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU EXPECT TO LIVE THROUGH THE WINTER. Specific problems: -Poor management--they claimed due to the flu that they were short=staffed--it is your job as a business owner to structure your business and manage staff so that you can handle predictable problems such as a flu. -Flawed and Inefficient systems that don't talk to each other--the way their systems are designed, there is a break between the technicians on the street and the customer service reps that is supposedly bridged by an online system but doesn't give the customer service reps any way to tell the customer when the technician is arriving or even IF they are arriving that day, just that you are 'on the list' and a 'priority'. --Lack of follow through--technicians are by policy supposed to leave a note every time they visit a site. There is no accountability to know whether or not your oil has been filled--they do not call to confirm. Which means that if you are skipped several days in a row (as happened with us) you are not put at the top of the list the next day and they have no options to solve it. The entire company is overall REACTIVE, not PROACTIVE. --Poor planning--the company groups and organizes their stops based on location, which explains how we continuously were not serviced--ie there is no system to make sure that everyone that is on the list to receive heat RECEIVES HEAT. It's a basic problem that should have a basic solution. In summary--choose another company. read more

We ran out of heating oil for our home this past Thursday despite having automatic delivery and a 'gold contract'. When I called Griffith on Thursday am they said they would send a tech and we were on the schedule for delivery. No one came or called on Thursday. We went 24 hours without heat. On Friday we called again and a tech came out with an emergency supply of 10 gallons to hold us over until a delivery truck could come. (Tech is needed to restart the furnace when tank is empty). Despite several calls Friday and Saturday, no delivery was made. It is now Sunday am and we have run no heat again. Despite desperate calls to Griffith and leaving message and after message with their answering service, we have not received anything word from them. My family is at their mercy for heat and I am horrified at the treatment we are receiving from Griffith. read more

They charge exorbitant prices for furnace oil. Shop around, to avoid being gouged. I am thinking of jettisoning these folks altogether. They have a "Gold Plan," for which I am paying almost $400 a year. It seems clear to me the "Gold Plan" is primarily a mechanism someone thought up in a boardroom, to bring in more revenue. ( Isn't it sad, that every corporation in America seems to sit around thinking of new ways to get its fangs buried deeper into our necks? ) Billed as a "protection plan," the Gold Plan includes one pre-winter inspection, and nothing else of any substance that I can discern. I called them and asked them what else I'm getting from this plan, for $400 a year. They said, "You get money down on a new furnace if your old one dies. Each year that you pay for the plan, money goes toward the payment for a new furnace in the future." I had been paying for the Gold Plan for about ten years, since the home's previous owner, a relative, had gotten the plan and had maintained it before me. I asked, "How much do I have paid toward a new furnace, by having held this plan for ten years?" They said, "The new furnace compensation caps out at $500." So, basically, I have paid $4,000, for an annual inspection and to get a $500 discount on a new furnace when one is eventually needed. This doesn't even include the Gold Plan payments made by my relative, who previously owned the house and its furnace. This "golden" arrangement would appear to be intentionally misleading, since no one clarified the $500 cap until I forced them to do so. All this time, I've been thinking I had put several thousand dollars toward any new furnace that might be needed in the future. And I believe that what I thought was exactly what they intended me to think. Some folks must get a really rude surprise when their furnace dies completely and they go to get the "advantage" provided by their Gold Plan. This brings to mind just one word: "Rip off." read more

Griffith will offer you a low price to get you as a customer. They put me as an automatic delivery when I did not ask for it and their next price was almost a $1/gal more than others the same day. Beware of their sales pitch and their coupons they mail to you. The coupons are worthless, if they are then jacking up the price for future deliveries! My suggestion would be call around. read more

Griffith"s service guys are top-notch. Have used then for years. Highly recommend them BUT check out their heating oil price BEFORE you have them deliver. They just charged me $3.39 a gallon; a FULL DOLLAR PER GALLON above the market price and what their competitors are now charging and above what even they are charging new customers. On a 182 gal delivery that is a $619.71 prices verses what their competitors would have charged me, $418.60. You do the math! read more

I'm on an auto delivery system but they failed to deliver before I ran out. Finally they filled the tank. But now I need a technician to restart the furnace. They won't even call back. We called them a week ago because they forgot the automatic refill (again, for the third time), and they put us off until after the storm. multiple days with no oil now, house is freezing, snowed in but accessible from the plowed parking lot next door, and they won't pick up their phones. Their customer service is laughable, especially since their hold messages are all about how important good service is to their business. This is only the second review I've ever written online but if I can help people avoid this company it is well worth the time spent. I apologize that this review will be a bit longer but the Cliff Notes version for those who don't want the whole story is simply, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER COMPETITORS WHO WILL DO AN EXPONENTIALLY BETTER JOB. The background is my heating system started working less efficiently than it had all of a sudden so I called Griffith to come out and inspect my boiler. The technician came out for about 10 minutes and noticed that the valves on the pipes needed to close zones of the system so it could be drained were seized up. He said the problem was air in the pipes (which I admit is the most likely explanation for the loss of efficient heating) so we scheduled a time for Griffith to replace them. However, he didn't inspect anything else at all to try to confirm that was in fact the problem. Day of the scheduled repair: I take the day off work so I can be here for them but nobody ever shows up. I called the company to confirm he was still coming when I was at the end of my provided time window and nobody responded. I then left another message saying no one showed up and that I needed a call back to reschedule and received no response. I went to Home Depot that night and spent my weekend replacing the plumbing myself. Once the plumbing was replaced with new working valves I confirmed that there was.... NO air in the system at all and that wasn't the problem. I had to spend the rest of the winter freezing on very cold days but the inefficient heat was still adequate for most days so I let it go and figured I'll address it at the annual tune-up in the fall. Next incident. I schedule the annual tune-up. Take an afternoon off of work to stay home and wait for the technician. Well guess what... he doesn't show. This time they at least called to tell me they weren't showing up but not until 3:30 for my 12-4 window. I talk to a customer service rep explaining my frustration at the fact that I have to continuously re-arrange my schedule and waste vacation days for them to NEVER show up. She handled the situation rather well, talked with her manager, gave me a $50 credit and scheduled another appointment for a Saturday (usually reserved for emergency calls) so I wouldn't have to take off anymore work. Now it's the aforementioned Saturday. I sit home, AGAIN, all day Saturday. No call, no show for the 3rd time in a row now AFTER a complaint and the customer service rep saying she would put a note in my file. At this point I don't care if they offer me a free servicing because it's not free. It's just another day of my life wasted waiting for them. I'm out a day and a half of work, two and a half days of my life and I'm still going to have to waste more time waiting for a competitor (who I'm sure will actually show up). Overall, I couldn't possibly recommend this company less as they are incompetent liars. I also didn't shop their heating oil prices around (my fault, I know) but those seem to be rather high compared to competitors too. Don't waste any time or money on this company, I promise you will regret it. read more

NEVER use this company. Having been a customer for 3 years and struggle with them to honor their maintenance agreement, it is time to give up and find a reputable company. Not only do they not honor their maintenance agreements, it is impossible to schedule maintenance. Some of the customer service reps will tell you anything just to get you off the line. I have a service contract with Griffith. I have.been been trying to get my air conditioning unit fixed since May 1. Each time a technician visits they perform a little trouble shooting. They find some easy fix make the repair and leave. At no time have they performed comprehensive trouble shooting. They look for an easy fix, make a repair and claim victory. It's now June 6 and I'm still waiting for them to really repair the unit. My recommendation - Avoid this firm. Technician worked 5 hours on June 9 in attempt to repair unit. Unit froze up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. read more

Wish I had looked at Yelp First! A couple years ago I bought an Heat Pump from them and they did a great job. They have gone straight down hill since then. I called them out to fix our other Heat Pump and was told there would be a $119 Trip/Diagnostic fee. Long story, short, they found that the thermostat was bad. I told them I did not need a programmable one as I never program them any way. He said he had one on the truck but it is $219. Ignorance is bliss, I told him to go ahead and install it as we needed AC to sleep. Curiosity made me look it up on the internet the next day. WHAT A SHOCK! You can buy these very same thermostats for around for $70 with instructions on hooking it up. I called their Service Manager 2 days in a row before he called me back. He told me they don't compete with the internet. Bottom line, I paid them $150 to do a 5 minute job I could have done myself. BUYER BEWARE!!! Needless to say I will not be calling them ever again. I have been a customer of Griffith Energy Services for 20 years and had generally been satisfied. Griffith provided me with fuel oil and has installed both a furnace and air conditioner for me. I have service contracts on both, as well as a Tank Sure tank service contract. In the last 2-3 years, I have been noticing that the prices Griffith charged have been considerably higher than the cost of Diesel fuel at gas stations. I understand that home heating oil and Diesel fuel are essentially the same. These high prices have become a great burden in the last two years as the price of fuel has skyrocketed. In December, I had another experience with Griffith that sensitized me to its exorbitant prices. I also have an Aprilaire Humidifier on my furnace, installed by Griffith. It had about reached the end of its useful life, so I contacted Griffith about replacing it with a new one. Griffith wanted $695 to purchase and install an Aprilaire 700 Humidifier, a unit that is available for $203.90 on the Internet. I chose to have Griffth service the old humidifier (for a charge of $89). The technician replaced a water tube but didn't have a fan motor with him that was not working. I thought the $89 charge was high, but I was enraged when I was charged an additional $31 for the water tube, which was available on the internet for $6.99. I would have had to pay another $89 service charge to replace the motor (plus the Griffith price for the motor), so I purchased the motor online and replaced it myself. This experience stimulated me to compare oil prices with other companies. For my last delivery on December 31, 2013, Griffth charged me $4.609 per gallon for the fuel oil. I checked with two other companies. Laurel Fuel Oil & Heating Company's price was $3.89. Burtonsville Fuel Oil's price was $3.93. I had a delivery of 138.4 gallons of oil on December 30. I paid $.719 per gallon more to Griffith than I would have paid to Laurel Fuel Oil, a difference of $99.50 for the order. On November 30, Griffth delivered 216.9 gallons at a price of $4.449 per gallon. At that time, Laurel Fuel Oil was charging $3.78 per gallon, a difference of $.669 per gallon or $145.11 for the delivery. This is price gouging in every sense of the word. I also compared the price of my presidential service contract with Griffth for my furnance over the years. This is a top-tier contract that will pay up to $3,000 toward a new furnace should it fail. In 1996, I paid $209.95 for this contract, and it has risen steadily since then to $429.95 this year. At this point, I have paid about double the price of the $3,000 I'm allowed for a new furnace, and I suspect that Griffith will charge far more than anyone else for a new furnace should I need one. The $3,000 probably would only cover Griffith's excessive price were I to retain the presidential contract. Today, I cancelled my 20-year relationship with Griffth. I left four messages with a Griffith representative to talk about these prices, and I received no call in return. I can only conclude that Griffith has no interest in its customers. It is truly an irresponsible company that wants to exploit its customers and not serve them. read more

GES is a horrible company; the BBB should be alerted; GMS does not take into account their customers' needs; they have abysmal customer service. It's a wonder they are still in business; this company left me, my disable wife and 10 year w/out heat for an entire holiday weekend (customer service reps, laughed, mocked, tormented and lied to me over the phone). Having a (GOLD) maintenance agreement meant nothing to them; it was a scam and a ripoff; last year I spent over 4 thousand dollars on abysmal service, and after they supposedly cleaned my furnace, it caught fire, and I had to pay to get it and the chimney fixed. The service from GMS and its lack of customer service left me w/out oil delivery, but I should have had automatic refills; Today I canceled all service w/Griffith And get this, during my many calls before during and over the holiday weekend to Griffith, customer service instead of taking ownership of their many mistakes tired to blame me. They are corrupt and should be hauled into court to pay restitution to their clients. read more

I didn't end up using this company mostly because of the overpriced oil. The previous owner of my house used Griffith Energy Services since 2004. They were billed $399 for a Gold maintenance plan and $3000+ heating oil for the winter of 2014-2015 with the unit price ranged from $3.54 to $4.33 per gallon. I called Griffith recently and tried to set up a credit account and an automatic delivery service. They told me that they were busy at that moment and they would call me back, but they never did. So I contacted another company and that company charged me $250 for a gold plan and ~ $2.20 per gallon for heating oil. I checked the average heating oil price in recent years and found the average heating oil price in the later half of the 2014-2015 even lower than the current price. In short, Griffith charged almost 60% more than other companies for the same type of heating oil. Had the previous owner used other companies, they would have saved $1000+ in heating in one winter. In a way, I would thank Griffith for not calling me back. read more

This company is the worst. I called to have oil delivered in the dead of winter. They claimed they could not get to me until four days later, so I told them, "Never mind, we can't wait that long, I will order from someone else." I called another company and it were able to deliver 100 "emergency" gallons within a few hours. This other company was professional, pleasant and the quick response, after hearing I had 2 children, was impressive, so I scheduled another delivery from them for two weeks thereafter. Lo and behold, four days later, here comes Griffith filling up my tank with oil from a delivery I never ordered, and in fact had told them not to make! No knock on the door, no call ahead of the delivery to confirm...nothing. I called to complain and the woman acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. OMG!!! I am so glad to see that I'm not the only one that had issues with this company. In 2010 in the midst of the blizzard that hit the DC metropolitan area extremely hard, Griffith Energy claimed they delivered oil to my home, which was already 3/4 of a tank full. I was home the hold day, because everything was shut down, and not once did I see or hear a truck delivering oil to my home on the date of question. On top of that I received a ticket in my mailbox a week later conveniently missing pertinent information such as driver#, truck#, my acct#, my name and address was hand written at the bottom of the ticket...mmmmm. I instantly sent an email complaint. When I didn't receive a response, I started calling. I spoke with the delivery supv, who needed to take a customer service course, he said he would check on it and call me back. After 2 weeks, I called and ask for his supv, he called the next day and pretended to show concern and said he would get back to me once he investigates, It's 2015, I guess the investigation was more extensive then he thought because I'm still waiting for a call. After leaving several more messages for him, I received a call from the billing supv who said she was asked to call by the delivery supv. Of course, I went through the whole story once again and she too pretended to care. To date I have not heard from anyone, therefore I made the decision for them. I sent an email informing that I was discontinuing my relationship with Griffith Energy and I will pay them what I legitimately owed them and nothing more. Periodically they send me collection threats that I trash, and I check my credit report. I have documented and saved every call and email, I am waiting for them to threaten court, and I'm ready for them. My new company, C and M heating, has been great! read more

Griffith Energy Service is terrible at returning calls. They are great at charging up front to join their "Gold Service Plan", but when it comes time to asking them for service, they are unpredictable, at best, at showing up on time. Furthermore, when I needed NEW service for one of my commercial investment properties, they have been really bad at returning calls. For one of my properties that needed a brand new heat pump, I had to call them numerous times before their representative, Aaron, would even call me back. Once he showed up to the property, he did not even wait for me to meet with him. Instead he gave me a quote that he seemed to be surprised that I would accept, which I overpaid for, just in order to get the job done. For another one of my properties in DC, that my tenants have been complaining was too cold, I called them to send someone to service the property and to give me a recommendation. Despite their service department claiming that I had been fully covered under the "Gold Service Plan", when the technician arrived, he said that I would have to pay. Nonetheless, I paid for the service call, which he could not repair. He promised me that someone would call me by the next day. That was over 5 weeks ago! Since then, I have called them nothing less than 7 times and have even spoken to purported managers in charge to inquire "...why no one will even call me back!" Each time I spoke to a manager, they assured me that their representative, Aaron, in charge of new service would call me back. Well, he did not call me back. When I spoke to the manager on yet another call, he told me that Aaron tried calling me, but my phone was busy (which I cannot believe since it is a cell phone with a voice mail). Therefore, he simply gave up trying to reach me, even though he had my email address. The manager actually defended him for not calling me back, but said that he would call me by the end of the day. That was over 3 weeks ago! I am not asking for something for free. But as a business man with DC tenants, I cannot afford to get into trouble simply because Griffith's left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. To date, no one has bothered calling me back, despite winter being here. Honestly, a customer is not always right, but a customer should be treated with more respect. It has honestly been like pulling teeth from a bear. Griffith is obviously too busy or only works with BIG accounts. I will wait for all of my remaining "Gold Service Plans' to expire and will find another company that is more responsive. I am not a whiner, but this lapse in service is beyond ridiculous. read more

my parents had this company for 50 years; I continued the service with maintenance policies; they have left me without oil 4 times in 4 years! as this is a second home and freg. left vacant, it is imperative to have a company to depend upon the service; I am a Realtor Emeritus ; I would NOT recommend Griffith. on this day it is again w/out oil and it'g going down to 15 degrees tonite!! my local Realtor called me to tell me of no heat!!!!!!! I can't give Griffith any stars. After three years of their poor service, the end came when they claimed to deliver oil that they had not delivered. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. They claimed to have put oil in a tank that was locked without having a key. If you get oil from them, invest in an oil dip stick or other measuring device that will allow you to check the amount of oil they claim to deliver after each delivery. If you find your delivery ticket in an unusual location, this will be absolutely necessary to attempt to prove your case in court. Document every contact you have with them, including the name(s) of persons you talk with, the date and time of the call, purpose of the call and any resolution. They have a way of forgetting that complaints were made and promised made or implied. If you have to go to court with them, they are very good at lying. In short, don't trust them. read more
