I've been going to Grill 309 for roughly 3 years since they first opened. The first year and a half were great, menu items were on point, cocktails were good, service was great. As of late (and before COVID) things seemed to have dropped off. I just had the Shrimp PoBoy (have had a few times before) with Chips and a side of ranch. First off, I didn't receive chips, I got fries and no ranch. Which that's fine, I can deal with that (no price difference). Secondly, the shrimp on the sandwich was barely fried (batter soggy and falling off). Lettuce and tomato on it seemed like they were a few days past their use by date (lettuce turning blackish, tomato's were mush) Service was okay, as I got curbside to go, the young lady was very nice. I of course didn't notice these issues until I got home with my order. Just seems like Grill 309 is losing that fresh ingredient edge as they had for the first year or so. Each time I go it gets more disappointing as they begin to cut corners, now that they're successful. Decent restaurant, definitely will be looking elsewhere when it's time for lunch or dinner/drinks. Will try again but not as often as I had been going. read more

Conveniently located in downtown Culpeper and across from the Culpeper movie theater, this burger joint serves excellent American food. Service is always prompt and friendly. The only downside to this restaurant is the price for a single burger. Highly recommend this place if you want a good burger. read more

We did brunch here for Mothers Day and everything was great. We had the Greek Omelette, the steak and egg tacos and the angry omelette and it was all delicious. The bloody Mary's and mimosas were great. Service was great as well! The roses they were giving to the moms after their meals was a super sweet touch! read more

We just stopped here by by chance. My burger was very good. My wife had fish & chips which had nice thick pieces of cod. They have really good homecut fries, too. Portions were generous. Will definitely come back the next time we go through this town. read more

My husband and I went today for a lunch date. We ordered the onion rings and were impressed with the size but when we actually started eating them we realized the batter wasn't done. When they brought our burgers we let them know and they offered to remake them which was nice. Then when I started eating my burger I found it overcooked. They took and remade the burger giving more fries to go with it. And they also told us that both the burger and the onion rings were on the house. It really made a bad situation into a good one since we've never had a problem here before. Will definitely keep recommending it and coming for dates here. read more

This is combined from 2 visits. One was a Saturday afternoon in early June for lunch. The sandwiches were great. My son had the chicken & waffles, my husband had the gyro burger & I had the pita sandwich. Everything came out in a relatively timely manner, the way we requested. Fries & chips were cooked perfectly. The service was good. The food was tasty. It was a 4 star visit The second was a brunch visit. Maybe they were shorthanded in the kitchen. The place was half full when we arrived & while it did slowly fill up over the course of our stay (which was almost 90 minutes, for 2 people! I timed it!) it was still a huge wait for the drinks & then the meal. Then there is the meal. We started with poutine. The fries were hard as rocks, and tasted like they had been dropped back in the fryer for a 'reheat' before coming out too us. The gravy was tasteless. I had the steak & egg tacos and asked beforehand what came on them, specifically about the pepper jack cheese which I cannot stand but also about the guac which I would have gotten on the side. I was assured neither came with these tacos. They came with both and scraping off melted cheese & guac is almost impossible & considering how long it took to get them I was not going to take the offer of a remake. I swapped with my husband who had the turkey guac wrap. It was decent. The house made chips were over fried, hard & tasted semi-burnt. We did get 10% off due to the taco mix up but it was still a lot of money for not very good food. It was a 2 star visit. So it's a 3 star rating. read more

After hiking we rolled into this quaint little town. Grill 309 did not disappoint! For a party of six everyone was satisfied with their meals. The burgers were not frozen patties, they were the real deal! The french fries are unbelievable. Sweet potato fries with a sauce that must've been made in heaven to go with it! I ordered takeout. The person on the phone took my order and asked what kind of car I was driving. He told me they would watch for my car and bring the order out. I arrived - waited, waited, waited. Finally went in and said "I thought you brought the order out." The person said "Not when we are this busy." I told her I wish I had known that I would have come in earlier. At that point, food was barely warm and not good. If I had more time I would have asked for them to cook me another burger and fries but I needed to get back to work. Very unprofessional. My husband and I come here pretty frequently and it's almost always fantastic. The wait staff is super friendly and accommodating, and I've actually had the chef come out once to ask a question about the way I ordered my meal (which I really appreciated!) the onion rings are BOMB but they def fill you up. Get them subbed as a side, if you get them as an appetizer you will be STUFFED. You can tell they're hand-breaded, not just boring frozen bagged onion rings. I will say the fries can be a little greasy and the shrimp tacos are REALLY salty (the salsa is salty, the breading is salty, and the guacamole is salty and it overwhelms anything else), but the chicken and waffles, the chicken sandwich, the souvlaki, the wraps, the chipchos, ALL of it is soooo good. Come hungry though, for real. The drinks are always in rotation so it's a great place to try out craft beers too. read more

Used to enjoy this place, last time we attended was 3 pm on a Saturday before the evening rush. Wasn't busy. Sticky dirty tables and menus, waitresses in pajamas, burger was overcooked, extra saucy and sweet. Ordered burger medium rare, bacon, cheddar on it. Unsure as what was so sweet on it. Oil needed to be changed, house chips tasted sour and of bad oil. Wait time for order was over 40 minutes. For the price we were very disappointed. Dont mind waiting for good food that's over priced but bad food over priced is another story. Took over 20 minutes to get a beer, waitress didn't know beers on tap or specials. Was awkward as well. Felt like it was party time for employees. Very sad and disappointing used to enjoy this place. read more

Another great lunch restaurant in Culpeper. Besides "It's About Thyme", try Grill 309. It is terrific! One of us had the Chicken Ranch Wrap; another the 5oz Burger and I had the Taco Salad. The first two came with a side and all were delicious. For desert we shared the Twinkie a la Mode. It was unique and delightful. Prices were very reasonable and service was excellent. I have not had a bad experience with this restaurant yet! I have been there quite a few times too! The wine is cheaper than most places you could sit down and drink anything. The food there is great! I have personally only had their salads, but they're great size and delicious! :) ALSO the service there has not let me down. The waiters/waitresses have been so kind and nice. They're helpful and deserve to be recognized. Overall I like 309 as a new establishment in Culpeper, VA. read more

Ok! Went to grill 309 today. Great service! The waitresses are so kind and amazing. The food, was good. Mahi tacos were good but honestly not amazing, they were missing something. The poutine had waaay to much gravy, the fries were swimming in gravy. They were yummy but ask for light gravy! A lot of people talk about how great the burgers are at 309. Culpeper is an adorable little town and we were loving our time there even before we crossed the threshold of Grill 309. The day just got better with the sweetie pie server, Wyatt. He knew how to chat up and charm two old women that appreciate good food. The Cowboy Bites were lovely little crispy fritters stuffed with cream cheese, jalapeños, and corn! They were the perfect crunch and spice level! Though enticed by the "Doughnut Burger", we opted to split the Double Grilled Cheese Burger. It was perfect for sharing as it is a burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches. I know it sounds crazy, but it was a show stopper with crunchy grilled bread and a perfect medium burger between. The fries accompanying the entree were thin and crispy only outdone by dessert, the fried Twinkie with vanilla ice cream. Our expectations were low as Texas girls used to folks trying to fry up everything under the sun. We are happy to report that the battered and fried up sweet delight was a success. The food was decent. I did find the drinks and food to be priced high. Especially, since I've seen their workers buying food for the restaurant in Aldi. I wasn't impressed with the way the wait staff dressed. When I go to a restaurant I don't want to be served by someone who would rather lay around in their leggings and sweats all day. If you're just going to grab a burger then it's fine but if you're going out for a nice family outing I would suggest other locations downtown. read more

Was looking to try a new restaurant that wasn't a chain restaurant. We were excited to see that it's across the street from the movie theater (for future movie night excursions). Unfortunately this is another bar that serves food. There isn't much seating and it felt like the people at the bar were crammed up against the regular tables. This made it awkward because they're in bar stools towering/looming over the regular diners. We came here to try something local and I wanted to try the donut burger. Each of us got a different burger. They have a limited menu. All of it was very dry, especially the donuts. This is a great casual place to eat. I had their crab cake sliders. Super good. Plus their fries are pretty awesome not the normal fries you find everywhere else. Actually they were much like five guys fries. Yum. I don't drink beer but there were a lot of options. Even watermelon beer. Plus beer from the local breweries here in culpeper. The lemon bar for dessert was pretty awesome. I wish I had gone to the 309 when I lived in Richmond! read more
