One of the better places in Culpeper, however burned crab-cakes appetizer after 30 minutes wait is not what you would expect with this prices. Been there plenty of times and staff looks they are having a nice high school day at work. Food is hit and miss all the time. read more

Had lunch here with friends last Monday. The portions were generous and delicious. We didn't have an alcoholic beverages but it appeared they have a good selection. The staff was friendly, seated immediately and short wait for the food. Price reasonable and quality good. Only negative was the bathroom could use a little TLC. read more

I Love grill 309 and think it's an awesome addition to the culpeper restaurant scene. My husband and I always go in and sit at the bar for dinner. Probably the best place to eat in this area! I love all the cool types of sandwiches and burgers they have as I've tried probably all of them! Their sweet potato fries are also perfect, and delicious with the rest of the food. The staff has always been great even during busy hours, they make sure your food is good and always ask if you need anything else. After reading about the opening of a new restaurant, we were very excited to try it! We love the local restaurant scene in Culpeper, and we try to frequent independent restaurants as opposed to corporate chains! Sadly, this restaurant left a bad taste in our mouth, both food-wise and in overall experience. The first time we went, there was over an hour wait, so we decided to come another day. When we went back, we realized why there might have been such a long wait. This restaurant is very small inside, with more of a "bar with tables" feel than a restaurant feel. Luckily, we came at an off-time for the second try, so there was no wait. The beers are written on the wall up near the bar, which made it tricky for my fiance to see all the options. When he asked if they listed were on a menu anywhere, the waitress pointed to the wall. Since he was facing away from the bar, he just decided to go up and read them. The menu is very small with limited choices. One of our daughters is vegetarian, so her only options were basically a salad and French fries. Her small Caesar salad was definitely small with brown lettuce seen. Our other daughter ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, and was unable to bite into it when she got it. After I tried to cut it in half for her, I realized that it was definitely not fully cooked. I cut off the really thin side of the chicken (the 1/3 of the breast that was cooked) and she ate that. When I brought it to the waitress' attention, she offered to have the kitchen make her a new sandwich. At this point, my daughter was turned-off to eating any more (which I understood!), so we told the waitress she didn't want another sandwich. She took the remaining 2/3 away, then brought it back, and said they had cooked it more. No mention of adjusting the bill, or any other solution was ever brought up by the waitress. My fiance is a burger lover, but was disappointed in his cheeseburger. He commented that it was so salty and over spiced ("burger spices"), that was all he could taste. My fish tacos were ok, but I found it odd that one had tons of guac and no slaw, and one was the opposite. Overall, we were not pleased with the food quality or taste, and then when our bill totalled over $85 for a lunch for 4, we were even more unhappy. Wow, definitely not what we expected, and sadly we will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to our friends. read more

Although it took us a while to get our drinks and menu, the server gave us a discount which wasn't needed but she did so anyways. The service was great and the food was good. I ordered the poutine and doughnut burger and trust when I'm telling you, you will be full for a long time just from the poutine. On Wednesday May 11th my wife and I visited this establishment for the first time. Being a new local Culpeper place to dine we both wanted to give 309 a try. The food was not bad at all and seemed to be well planed for a bar and grill with average pricing. The service was great and was overall better than the word of mouth reviews we had received from friends who dined here right when this place opened. Apparently the management 309 had in place when they first opened has been revamped or fired. Now on to the bad, during the time I spent at this bar and grill I was whiteness many negative comments toward the staff from the female manager who earlier introduced her self as the owner of this establishment. Her knowing the employees better than I, maybe made her talking down to and negatively critiquing other members of her staff with such a nasty tone and choice of words was necessary, or so I originally told my self. At this point I was frustrated with the "owner" but simply decided to mind my own business. It was not until I overheard a conversation the owner had with another member of her staff that I decided I would NEVER come back. The conversation was just simply repulsive and so off putting if I were this person trapped in a building with this so called owner I simply would have quit on the spot, This conversation seemed to be around the corner from our table and if I could hear it I am sure others did as well. A tall gentleman who I cannot remember his name latter checked on us and asked how our experience was, he introduced him self as a member of management and wanted to verify our meal and experience was up to par. I very kindly thanked him and later told my Wife I felt bad such a great talent pool this bar and grill had would eventually be run away hopefully to better jobs simply because they have to put up with someone so narcissistic. I myself have bought, sold and run many dining establishments in my day, and I can tell you through many years experience this place wont be in business long if the current owner doesn't change the way she treats others. I only hope from one entrepreneur to another she reads her reviews and maybe my experience wont happen to another patron and that the staff at this Grill will simply stand up for them selves. In my experience the small town of Culpeper will soon enough get word of how "well" Brittany treats others and the talent she so skillfully hires will simply dry up. _____________ Manager is quick to respond to your comments, my 1 original star was a little harsh I felt and so I have decided to change this to 2 stars for the time being. read more

We tried Burger Monday, right after they opened, as they are about a mile from our house. We loved it. Now, it's a top choice for our family. Not impressed! The burger I ordered "medium" came out half over cooked. The bacon was left off, the pretzel bun was swapped out for another bun. I would not return! The service was subpar and the waiter was not very apologetic about the burger being over cooked. The biggest waste of money I have spent in a long time on food. read more

The Grill 309 is Outstanding. I had the Steak Tacos Sunday and the taste is the closet I had to real Mexican Tacos I have had since I was station in Texas. My wife had the Chicken & Waffles and ate and hummed until she was finish. This was our second time eating there and we are hooked on the food, drinks, and atmosphere. We plan to keep coming to try everything on the menu. Did I mention the prices are very reasonable. All of the burgers on the menu are amazing! Theyrejuicy and delicious and perfectly seasoned. the only exception is the chicken and waffle sandwich. It's a deep fried basket of gross. When I think chicken and waffles, I think of fresh soft and fluffy waffle,with the slightly crunchy outer shell of a Belgian waffle. Paired with a buttermilk battered and fried piece of chicken with mild seasoning , salt pepper and paprika, topped with maple syrup or hot sauce( I go for both). However what I had gotten was not only a fried piece of chicken, but two deep fried waffles that you could tell were previously frozen with a chili pepper flame maple syrup. The smell ALONE of the sandwhich was over powered by the distinct aroma of old grease. I took a bite anyway, because sometimes you just cannot trust your nose. WRONG. It was disgusting. All I could taste was the fryer that both of the pieces to the dish were cooked in. I would t hoped for a little better since their sandwhiches arent the cheapest fare in town. But I digress. When I had called in to give some feed back they offered to remake it. I wouldn't want to taste he same thing unless here was a better way to prepare the waffles. So I thanked her for the suggestion and wasn't back to visit until some coworkers from out of town wanted a delicious burger. When I picked up the burgers from grille 309, they didn't disappoint! The staff was and is always amazing. And the gentleman behind the bar is extremely helpful and accommodating. He helped me carry the order for my office to my car when it was raining. Visited this place with my coworker while in town on business. Had the hamburger and fries. It was cooked to order, the fries were fantastic, and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Did I mention the prices are very reasonable too. My coworker had the salad and she said it was great too. The only comment I have is that the environment is noisy so don't come here to have a quiet conversation - come here to eat great food! read more

What can I say? I love this place so much. The people are amazingly welcoming as well as the food making me have "happy belly" syndrome. I wanted to go here because it's a new place in Culpeper. I had hoped that it could be a cool place with good food. Not disappointed. The food choices were interesting although not so good for people on a diet. I have to say I could have not had a better meal to break my diet. My husband and I shared the chicken and waffles sandwich with the sweet potato fries. So good!! I had 2 beers. The ipa I don't know which one, but it was quite good. This is such a jewel. Had amazing food and craft beer. Everything we had was fresh, warm and tasted amazing. Nicole was awesome and loved her Strawberry Balsamic Martini. We had lunch here today for the first time. They use some kind of seasoning on the burger that has an exceptionally strong taste and in my opinion made the burger taste gamey, so I did not eat it. The fries were good, they taste just like Foster's Grill. My husband didn't care for the taste of the burger either. Our sons thought the chicken sandwich and hot dogs were good and the homemade chips were tasty. The servers were attending and friendly, and it's a nice looking place but is a bar so it is quite noisy. There is also seating outside and it is pet friendly. Thank you for addressing our concerns. We were in a time crunch and I don't like to send food back, so we didn't make a fuss. I see others mentioning the burger seasoning though, so maybe a mention of them being heavily seasoned on the menu would help :). Reading other reviews it was nice to see that you do offer kids menu, but that wasn't mentioned to us today so maybe a menu update would help that also. I'm sure you'll be serving plenty of kids given your location. read more
