Great atmosphere and Nadine makes a killer cocktail! Portions on the pot roast nachos seem to be smaller but everything was super tasty.

I've been ordering carryout from Grill 89 for a week (Three dinners, five entrées) now & the food was good. Last night I ordered the salmon dinner salad again and something was wrong with it. It didn't taste right. Today I call the restaurant to let them know that I didn't finish it and I have it here incase they wanted to inspect it. The manager said no, I could just throw it away and he'll keep an eye on things. The manager apologized, but for $30 plus two dollar carryout tip, I thought the manager would offer me a new salad since I mention I really like the salad. I did mention I didn't eat it and have it here.. I consider this bad customer service. The manager didn't even wanna see the salad. I feel cheated. I absolutely love grill 89 whether it's breakfast lunch happy hour or a quick bite to eat for dinner. The menu is diverse, hearty, and savory. The turkey chili is definitely something to try on these cold days. The Sonoma salad with their green goddess dressing is scrumptious dates grilled chicken, cranberries, cherries just to name a few. I also love the patty melt and their burgers. If you need a place to stop for happy hour, this is the place but make sure you get there early it's always packed. They do have a weekend brunch, but I'm rather traditionalist when I go to breakfast on a Saturday two eggs over easy bacon turkey sausage some sourdough toast for a local place it's a great find and food never disappoints. I see it more as friends out to dinner then a date night couples out to dinner watch a game on a Saturday Sunday with your friends. We decided to try carry out from Grill 89 and boy were we impressed! We had the pot roast nachos which were really good and I am glad we got the large! The pot roast was really tender and delicious. We got the Southern cornbread muffins that were super yummy and had just enough spiciness from the jalapeño. We got the buttermilk chicken tenders for our entree and it was awesome. This was our first visit, having been to Ditka's in Oak Brook about 10 years ago. My wife had the Saturday special, the filet and crab cake. Both were very good, and the crab cake was far more crab than bread crumbs. I had the salmon. It was a very good piece of fish, large, but not too large. The accompanying carrots and rice were also very good. Our server was very attentive. He was genuinely pleased to hear how much we enjoyed our dinner. This place is actually really good. Its not near a ton of other restaurants. The location is easy, right on the corner. There is a nice patio that runs the stretch of the building for nice days. Part of the patio is covered by the building overhang and part exposed with umbrellas. -The deviled eggs were good. Pretty empty time I visited around 4pm. I ordered the deviled eggs. They were pretty but also very bland. A little salt and pepper helped. You get 4. I ordered the burger and fries. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. The lettuce, onion, and pickles are chopped up so if you are thinking of picking something off the difficulty levels goes way up with this presentation. The fries were very good, hand cut and crispy. They were the best thing I had. I don't live near, came here for the yelp reviews. I won't be back though. It was just ok. Great bar food with a more casual vibe than Ditka's. If you are from the Chicagoland area, you know what a big deal Ditka is. I have been to Ditka's a lot but I forget Grill 89 is here, which might be because of the location. I came here when we could not decide what to eat and saw it when we were driving around and decided to eat here. When you walk in, they have a nice bar area with lots of TVs and space to hang out in. The menu definitely have some of the stuff from the Ditka's restaurants. We started with the pot roast nachos and these were great bar style nachos! The chips tasted like they were made fresh. I liked how they were not stingy with the pot roast! Overall, they had a good balance of toppings. We split the brisket sandwich with a side of brussels sprouts for our entree. The brisket was soft, tender and flavorful. I was not a fan of the bread because I felt it was a little chewy with all the brisket. The brussels sprouts were not cooked to my liking - I am very particular about this - but it was healthy! Love this place! I frequented the restaurant often before Covid. All family and guests that dined here were very pleased with the ambience, food and service. I have ordered takeout twice since Covid, and continue to be impressed. Since the restaurant reopened they seem to be running a very tight ship with a lot of proactive safety measures in place and taking their processes very seriously. I definitely feel safe ordering from here during this pandemic. The must order items-ribs, pot roast nachos, avocado wrap and corned beef. It does cost more than a drive through but the quality, quantity, preparation and accuracy is spot on. Highly recommend getting a bottle of wine to go as well, prices are better than retail. read more

Updating my review to let Yelpers know that during Covid, Grill 89 has held their rating with me. They continue to provide good hearty food and great service during this tough time. This is the only restaurant I've eaten in since Covid because many places look to have their tables too close together. Their indoor tables are spaced out well and all the staff wear masks. I feel very safe dining indoors here. However, I have also dined outside here and the tables are spaced out well outside, too. The brisket nachos, yum. Sonoma salad and salmon salad, always a good choice. Bartenders make a mean Old Fashion here. Grill 89 is just a consistently good restaurant. read more

We arrived early and the place had a handful of people. Not a good sign I thought. WRONG - It filled up in no time and the atmosphere is great! Lively, bustling, full of action. We sat at the bar and ordered the pot roast nachos. OMG - so yummy. It comes with alot of jalapenos, and a few were very spicy. Be forewarned. The burger was good, well seasoned and juicy. Hubby had the chicken enchiladas. He enjoyed it. The crowd is friendly and seems like alot of repeat customers. Went here last night and both service and food were phenomenal. They have a great variety of options including salads, pastas, burgers, fish, steak, and much more; and all of it is delicious. Service was exellent and staff was friendly and helpful. Great set-up for dining inside, looked like a decent set-up outside too, but it was way too cold for outdoor dining; it may be a little loud with busy Ogden Ave. right next door, but you don't here the noise inside. This was our 1st time visiting. We sat on the patio which was nice! The service was great and our waitress was very nice! We both said the french fries were one of the best we've ever had! Also, I asked for honey mustard dipping sauce and since they ran out of it, they actually made a homemade version and we both loved it! My friend said her salad was good as well. The only reason I'm giving only 4 stars (wish I could give 4.5) in because the corner beef was a bit salty and some pieces were kind of dry. Ok we have been coming to 89 grill from the beginning, this weekend after a long day at work we stopped for a early dinner. My wife ordered the salmon and farro, not farro ! brown rice... NOT as good and NOT the same. I ordered the brisket sandwich with coleslaw...... the brisket came on a hamburger bun and not much brisket, the coleslaw was not as spicy as it used to be. Did you change your kitchen staff? Or just did not train them..... don't think we will be back! So sad.......... read more

I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Grill 89! I was intrigued by the reviews and loved that they had a nice variety on their menu. Perfect for planning a dinner for a large group. If you're gluten free, you'll really enjoy the menu! It's clearly marked with what your options are and they even differentiate between "prepared gluten free" or "slight modifications to be gluten free". I love it! There's a nice variety to choose from on their regular menu -- soup, salad, shareables, wraps, sandwiches, protein bowls, burgers, tacos, smokehouse favorites, and more. It was hard to choose! They have a nice beer, wine, and cocktail list too. I decided on a glass of the Stemmari pinot grigio ($8) and the smokehouse 18-hour certified angus beef brisket ($17.95). The brisket came with corn bread and my choice of pimento mac and cheese, slaw, fries, or whipped potatoes. I went with the whipped potatoes. Everything was absolutely delicious! The brisket just melted in my mouth and had a ton of flavor. I liked the bbq sauce that was on the side, however I wish it was just slathered on top because the brisket pieces kept falling a part in the sauce when I tried to dunk. Regardless, it was very good. The whipped potatoes were just as impressive and were a nice compliment to the brisket. I think the corn bread had jalapeño in it, but not enough to be overbearingly spicy. The restaurant itself is really nice inside. I appreciate how they have the space divided between a large bar area with TVs and then a larger dining area of tables (and no TVs). Two separate vibes, one great restaurant. Our waitress was very nice and helpful, but I wish she would have stopped by more often to refill waters. I definitely plan to come back to Grill 89. Called for pick up asked for extra dressing didn't get it ! Asked for the burger to be medium well it was so rare that I thought it was going to get up and walk away! The salmon salad had one piece of salmon maybe 2oz for $24 really?! Then asked for plastic wear that was not in the bag or napkins! For carry out I thought that's standard? I called and asked to speak to a manager and he says did you ask for plastic wear? I said I told the young lady we were staying in the hotel across the street! Grill 89 is a pleasant and casual dining experience with added flair. This Ditka restaurant is a bar at its core however thankfully, the kitchen staff demonstrates great attention to detail and quality to the food. The food served has unique touches mixing old school food favs with upscale touches. The blend of the old favorites with upscale techniques is a refreshing addition to the food scene. The restaurant interior is cozy, with a slant to masculinity, and the deep brown booths are very comfortable and spacious. The pot roast nachos, noted as being a top seller, did not disappoint. The pot roast was full flavored and was a nice change to the typical proteins used with nachos. The other app, jalapeno corn muffins, was tasty but were a tad bit on the heavy side, rather than with a light crumb and exterior cornmeal crunchiness. I was in a party of three during my visit and our selections were all very tasty: -Pot Roast Nachos -Jalapeno Corn Muffins -Patty Melt with Fries -Side of Jalapeno Coleslaw -89 Burger with Fries The meal ended with a slice of decadence.......coconut cream pie (my absolute favorite). The pie is homemade which is great however this version of coconut cream pie was not as fluffy and airy as I would prefer but the flavor was definitely spot on. So it's a Ditka place.. get it? 89? Like in his retired jersey number? An upscale sports bar... Nice atmosphere, good food. It's a sports bar, they didn't have "small plates" so we ordered appetizers instead.. a small order of wings (good, but not plentiful for 10 bucks) and some really excellent Pot Roast Nacho's (we we're smart enough to order the "Large" and glad that we were able to enjoy our own brilliance) I had to try the chili.. it wasn't that I was super hungry.. I had a whole meal coming.. but I really like chili. So cup or bowl? jeez.. it's like hardly anything extra for a bowl... I can always diet later. The chili was good, chunky.. I got it with all of the fixings (duh!) my only real gripe is that it could have been hotter (temperature) well, my other gripe is that they have two or three hot sauces that kind of suck. Well, to me anyway. Would it cost them anything to have a habanero sauce on hand? I wanted a burger.. so that's what I was going to have and I announced my intentions to the table...but not to the waiter (Eddie who was awesome!). I ordered the corned beef sandwich.. .. why? It was a 10oz cooked cooked closer to medium than medium rare.. but then again.. Adam kind of gave them that range. It's not like going to Morton's.. but it was $25.95 and he really enjoyed the steak. The mashed potatoes.. were pretty freaking awesome and the asparagus was just right. Janet ordered the ribs.. a full slab (because price wise the 1/2 slab isn't much less.. kind of like the cup and bowl thing above) She had a small salad with it (it's ribs damn it! get the fries!) that looked way too healthy for me. Janet thought the ribs were tasty, but a bit dry (too many good rib places around these days) She also liked the height challenged jalapeno corn muffin. She took more than a half slab home. So, you would think we would get the check and hit the road jack! We were full after all. Eddies like.. "are you sure you wouldn't like some dessert?
