Neat is, well, neat. I got the Caprese Chicken sandwich and it was really good. I appreciated the stretchy, melty cheese. Our server, Erin, was incredibly polite. She recommended I get the chicken on my sandwich blackened, which was an excellent choice. The place feels a bit cold - decor leaves a lot to be desired. It's fairly "industrial" feeling. Neat probably isn't the best place to take your kids, though. Everything on the kids menu is $10, including Kraft Mac & Cheese, which is selling for 99 cents at Jewel as I write this. The ambience of the room we had was great; off from the rest of the public part of the restaurant but still in the heart of the place with access to the the spacious patio. We had the event on a Thursday, which is also on the evening that the city of Westmont holds their car show there on Cass. This made for a little challenge with parking but it was worth the extra walk to have a fun event at the same time as ours. It was a fun diversion on that wonderful summer evening. I really like Neat Kitchen & Bar, and that's why I returned again to catch up with another party of 3 just about a month after our first visit. It was a Monday, and wow, this place was packed and hoppin' and it's a deservedly popular place indeed. Being somewhat creatures of habit, we got the same two delicious appetizers as last time - the mussels ($17) and the crispy chicken bao buns ($14). The sauce with the mussels is so good and addictive. I had their Neat burger ($17) this time with fries and it was tip-top delicious. My two pals and colleagues both had their whiskey BBQ burger, one with regular fries and the other with sweet potato fries. I also had a couple dark beers for a change from one of my favorite Chicago breweries and they were delicious: - Maplewood Fat Pug oatmeal milk stout (5.9% ABV), $9 - Maplewood Brownie Points Nitro brown ale (5.7% ABV), $8 Brooke B was our young lady server and she did a fine job on a busy night. On our arrival and check-in, the hands-on guy at the front desk happened to be Matt the owner. He's a friendly guy with a good memory and he runs a mighty fine brewpub. Once I was out here I decided to give Neat a try and have been back several times since. Their food is always good and fresh - I've never been disappointed in any of my meals. We came during the taste and it wasn't super slammed so we popped in. It was a little crowded, fast paced but not too loud! Our server was so so sweet! Emma I believe was her name. Good recommendations and she still gave great service despite running around! The only reason this isn't a 5 star- we had to get new utensils like everyone we had still had lettuce, cheese or something on it. Super off putting so we ultimately decided on using our hands. We had a potato soup, highlight of the meal. We got a side of shredded cheese and sour cream and it made it that much better. So good! The short rib grilled cheese was dry, but not inedible. Our fries were lukewarm at best. Our brussel sprouts were "flash fried" but burnt beyond belief. We tried just picking the bacon out. But they were absolutely dry and crisped up lil sprouts. The lobster salad reminded me of seafood salad from Jewel. It was weirdly over mayo-y and the Bibb lettuce was so brown and withered that too was inedible. Ultimately, we boxed everything up because our server was insanely sweet and we didn't wanna leave extra work for her LOL. DRINK REVIEW ONLY Stopped by Neat Kitchen + Bar for Happy Hour. Well Spirits, Draft Beer, and Wine are all $5. Additionally, classic cocktails are $7-$8. We were also told that on Friday's, HH includes $5 off appetizers. Justin was our bartender and he was AMAZING! Very friendly, created great balance in drinks ordered, and nicely made conversation with us. We started by ordering a gin and tonic as well as a cosmo. The cosmo was not overly based with cranberry juice which was a pleasant surprise. I followed up with a Lavender 75 drink with vodka instead of gin. The drink had a good balance of bubbles from the champagne, subtle lavender, and lemon. Our last drink was the Apricot Sour. While it was whiskey forward, I loved the froth, nice fruity apricot taste, and fruity garnish at the end. Service was amazing, whether table or at the bar. Cocktails were very good. Bartenders were attentive. When we got to the table, the servers were very kind. Manager would not let us have the fireplace on. It was cold. Trivia and ambient music was way too loud for our group. Ambient noise was way too loud. At least they let us have the music and trivia announcements be turned down slightly. Would come back, but they need to be better attentive to their guests. There was no reason the fire shouldn't be turned on ("because of cost" as we were told) when it was 40degrees outside and requested as we were sitting by the fireplace. Food was good. I ended up with the prosciutto and mozzarella sliders. They were simple yet flavorful, and the roasted garlic aioli paired very well with them. My dad got the mussels which come with chorizo, harissa, and Chardonnay sauce. Those were excellent, some of the better mussels I've tried. Came here based on a friend's recommendation, and sorry to say, we were all underwhelmed. Two of us had the restaurant week special, Caesar salad, short ribs with mashed potatoes, and crème brûlée. My husband ordered the blackened ribeye, and our other friend ordered a burger. We all shared a loaded poutine as a starter. Everything was mediocre. The ribeye was very undercooked, my husband had asked for medium rare, and it was very rare. I love my steaks on the rarer side, and this was even undercooked for me. The quality of the steak was also not great, many pieces were hard to chew and full of gristle. The seasoning on the steak was good though, unfortunately, it didn't make up for the poor quality of the meat. The poutine was bland, the fries not great. The short rib entree was also bland and very forgettable. The texture of the beef was very tender, but the actual flavor was nothing special. My friend said her burger was good, but nothing she'd come back for. She didn't love her pear cocktail, she said it tasted too artificial. I had a Paloma that was good. It seems they make drinks and put a piece of dried fruit on it, so it looks great, but doesn't necessarily taste great. The crème brûlée was yummy, that was the best part of the meal. Overall, the ambiance was nice, lots of families with little kids, friendly staff, and clean space. But the actual food was overpriced for what it was, and the drinks were hit or miss. read more

I was disappointed to give a 3 because I remember the food being better. I got the Texican burger. The chicharrón didn't add much to the burger. It was good, but I've had much better burgers elsewhere. My boyfriend had the black and blue burger and the bacon was way overcooked and the blue cheese flavoring was overwhelming, he didn't even finish it. We were there this past weekend and while the menu indicates there is a happy hour - it wasn't advertised in the restaurant or on my bill for our wine. Perhaps - it was just at the bar, but then I wish the "Specials" tab on the site would indicate that. We ordered the Black and Blue Burger and the Texican Burger w/ fries and brussel sprouts. I liked my Black/Blue - had a good blend of the bacon and blue cheese. My husband thought the Texican was just okay - had hoped to taste the chorizo more. The fries were a bit bland - needed salt/pepper (but neither spice was on the table) and the sprouts were just okay. Great place to eat, especially on Thursdays during classic car night in Westmont. This was my first time here but I had a feeling it would be good. We started off with appetizers for the group. I highly recommend the loaded poutine. The short rib is phenomenal with pickled red onion and charred jalapenos. I finally found a good poutine around here! We also ordered Hummus and Wings. The Hummus was very popular as it was cleared quickly, the wings were nothing special. For dinner I devoured the American Wagyu burger which was incredible! Havarti, roasted mushrooms, crispy shallots, Cabernet reduction and truffle aioli! I could have had two of them but I was full! Pair with some truffle fries and you are all set! The desserts looked great but my family and I were dead set on getting a waffle cone down the street at Everydays a Sunday Ice Cream shop. Long time customer, place has had its ups and slight downs over the years but it's always has some interesting things on the menu.

Spent an evening at Neat while visiting family in the area, and will return again in the future when I'm back. I sat in the bar area, so won't speak to the rest of the seating, but the bar is spacious and also welcoming. Nice for watching sports on the TV, having a conversation, or a bit of people-watching. The bartenders, Justin and Alex, were tremendous! They were knowledgeable, conversational, and will give you their thoughts on certain liquors or cocktails if you want them to. Neat kitchen is so great. Ownership treats the restaurant like an artisan and is very passionate about the establishment. I haven't eaten at a table too often but every time, the wait staff is great. The bar staff at Neat are an awesome crew - down to earth family vibe and stellar mixology. I've gone many, many times but decided to finally leave a review. I love this place and it's the closest thing to a neighborhood bar that I can find in the suburbs. I'm a city guy and this is a super refreshing environment. We had company in town visiting, so decided to head to Neat Kitchen! And for last minute on a Friday night, it was surprisingly easy to get into! We were a little pressed for time, so we all skipped apps and salads. Our friend had the short ribs based on our recommendation, and they did not disappoint! They were awesome! (Although I do miss the yummy celery root purée that they used to come with!) My hubby and I both went with the salmon. The salmon had a ginger teriyaki glaze that was fabulous! But unfortunately, the sides that came with it were disappointing. The menu stated that it came with broccolini and sticky rice. What came was a larger than your fist size chunk of regular broccoli. I don't like my veggies cooked to the point of being mush, but this head of broccoli was so undercooked it was hard to cut with a knife and fork. And someone should have mentioned they were out of broccolini. And the rice...not sticky rice. It was a large ice cream scoop serving of plain old white rice. Next time, I'll be back with the short ribs, or their chopped salad that rocks too! read more

I've waited a long time to try Neat, and it didn't disappoint. Let me start by saying I'll go back ASAP so I can sit inside for a more comfortable experience-not the restaurant's fault-that was in "Phase 3" and as we're now in "Phase 4" will be back. Very good food-quality of proteins, veggies, sauces is there and a great mix of flavors that is the right mix of rich/hearty but not overly filling. Nachos to start were quite good-hope to have those to myself next time! Wings were tasty and blue cheese and ranch dips were cold as were veggies. My son and I shared the steak and shrimp tacos (2 separate menu items) and they were tasty, as was the rice, but the hit were my wife's truffle fries and my other son's BYO burger, which he truly did. Old Fashioned! My wife and I returned to the Neat Kitchen and Bar for the second time and once again we were delighted. We started off with a couple adult beverages; A glass of Pinot Grigio for the Mrs. and a neat Old-fashioned for me. Honestly this was one of the top 10 old fashions that I've ever had and trust me i've had many over the last 40 years. I had the Braised Short Rib dinner and the Mrs. had the Buttermilk Chicken N' Jack Sandwich. Both were delicious, presented beautifully, and cooked to perfection.
