Im a big fan of tuna tar tare. The tuna was plentiful. The flavor had a hint of spicyness in the cream sauce. Cucumbers gave it a nice texture change. I'm a pretty easy going person and try to be fair but this was a wild experience. First of all we walk in the check in for our reservations and have to fight to be acknowledged. The hostess looked right at me and decided not to speak with me. I almost left but didn't feel like trying to find a new spot to eat. Then we get seated at a small WOBBLY UNSTABLE table that we have to put a napkin under ourselves to stop from wobbling. We then get served the food meant for the table next to us! It sat on our table for at least 3-4 minutes while we attempted to wave a waiter down to let them know. Then they had the AUDACITY to give the plates that were in front of us for minutes to the couple next to us whom the dishes we meant for!? INSANE!! Not a sorry or any kind of compensation. That's a health code violation and they are lucky that couple next to us didn't put up a fight. Their meal should have been free or Just remake the dish for the poor folks?? You made a mistake, admit to it and make it right!! Besides the wild health code violation, the vibes are pretentious and elitist. Not worth your money. Plenty of better options in the area. Delish and delightful! Gorgeous atmosphere, tried and true variety of East getting along great with west, us three enjoyed a brunch time with a spicy yellow cocktail and a fantastic spicy bloody Mary complete with shrimp and bacon. I was surprised the menu kept going then realized the wine list shames the food! How do people decide?! Thankfully the staff seems capable to assist but we didn't need guidance. Tried the pork belly omelet special, burger, and I had the something I don't know how to spell! That egg tomato sauce sausage dish! Unfortunately I couldn't find any sausage at all during my eat, which was the main reason to get it. The others did much better finishing off their dishes quickly. Another visit today- amazing! This visit had the crab claws which were spectacular! The claws were over a bed of fries covered by a tarragon butter sauce! Delicious! I paired with a lovely Bordeaux blanc- a perfect combination! The service was excellent. They have a nice outdoor space, but I chose a lovely table inside to enjoy the ac and atmosphere. It was okay, I don't think I'd order it again. I had been super curious about it after seeing the pics and reading other reviews, so maybe it had been hyped up a little in my head, but it just reminded me of warm seafood salad. Foxtail has officially become one of our favorite spots for date night! We sat outside on their gorgeous patio and the atmosphere was absolutely perfect--romantic, relaxed, and just the right vibe for a summer evening. The drinks were super refreshing and had a strong kick--exactly how cocktails should be. We started with the lamb and kefta kebab, which came with hummus, salad, and warm pita. The kebab was insanely tender and juicy, full of flavor in every bite. Next up were the chicken wings, and wow--tossed in the most mouthwatering sauces, juicy, crispy, and cooked to perfection. But the real star of the night? The flatbread with pork sausage and Calabrian chili. Hands down one of the best flatbreads I've ever had. Perfectly balanced spice, crispy edges, and loaded with flavor. We finished with the chocolate coffee crunch cake topped with ice cream. Rich, indulgent, and perfect for sharing--though I could've easily eaten the whole thing myself. Everything was spot on--from the service to the food to the ambiance. I was pleasantly surprised by Foxtail! The restaurant is located on the edge of downtown Downer's Grove. It is beautifully decorated with an open layout. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were friendly and helpful. My friend and I stopped by for dinner and ordered the following: - Muhammara (5/5): The server recommended this dish, and I get why! It's a dip made with roasted bell pepper topped with walnut, pomegranate seeds, fresh mint, savory, pomegranate molasses, olive oil drizzle. It's served with crostinis. The dish was filled with different textures and flavors (savory, salty, sweet). Highly recommend this! - Chicken wings (3/5): The menu notes that these are lebanese style, tossed with lemon, cayenne, cilantro, and garlic. While the wings were cooked well, there wasn't much flavor. - Crispy duck risotto (2/5): Presentation is great and looks delicious! Simply can be described as well cooked with little flavor. - Short Rib (5/5): Again, what a beautiful presentation. This dish was absolutely delicious. The short rib was well cooked, it was so tender and juicy. The mashed potatoes, gravy, and cooked vegetables really supplemented the meat. I highly recommend this! This was my third visit to Foxtail and on each occasion I've been less impressed. It is a beautiful space with a wonderful menu, diversity in drink choices, but it did not hit it out of the park this go around. The shrimp saganaki appetizer was plain and needed salt. Burger was nothing special. Most notably, our entrees took nearly 50 minutes after we ordered and we waited for 5 minutes for one of our guests' entrees even tho the others had been delivered, with no apologies. One guest added chicken to their salad and it was served awkwardly on a side plate, and not well plated. Service was a little clumsy. Runners didn't know where to put food and needed better training. Silverware was missing. Steak and salmon dishes were great. Bu please fix your kitchen timing and service issues! read more

My wife and I went to dinner at The Foxtail and loved everything about it. The atmosphere was fantastic and our server made some amazing recommendations for every course. I started with the Rhyme & Reason which was outside of what I normally order but absolutely loved it. For appetizers, we had the Brick Oven Roasted Couliflower and Merguez Flatbread. Both were great and the flatbread was perfectly spicy. My wife had the Shrimp Poke Bowl and added edamame and I had the Herb Brined Pork Chop based on the recommendation of our server. My wife said her poke bowl was perfect and the porkchop was one of the best I've ever had. Very juice, perfectly cooked, and the shrimp and accompaniments were a perfect match. We finished off the meal with the Double Mousse Carrot Cake which is a must-have. It was a unique mix of mousse, cream cheese, caramel, and carrot cake that paired perfectly. Every time we go, this is a special place for dinner. It feels like a special occasion whenever we are here, even if it's a casual night out. The vibes inside are incredible, and the space is beautiful. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and the food just takes it over the top. Foxtail is probably my favorite restaurant in Downers Grove. On our most recent visit, we made a last minute reservation for dinner on a Friday night around 8:30. When we arrived, there were a number of tables who had finished and paid, but didn't leave their tables, which caused for a backup in seating the next guests. It totally happens, but what The Foxtail did during the interim was about the best experience I could hope for! The hostesses were super friendly and kind, and kept us up to date on when we would be seated, and the manager offered us our first round of drinks on the house. Usually, we can't decide what to get so order a handful of shareable dishes for the table, but our most recent visit, we decided to get the octopus as a starter (so deliciously fresh and crisp!), and I ordered their spin on a duck risotto and my husband got their spin on paella. The food was incredible and so filling, and we left with lunch for the next day. Food wise the appetizers hit the spot. The octopus was cooked well with a bit of spice, but the portion was tiny. The crudo was flavorful with great melt in your mouth tuna. I had the duck confit appetizer for my entree and it was delicious. Shredded duck flavorful and moist with Brussels sprouts and hint of sweet in the sauce and pomegranate seeds. As you can see from my past reviews, I come to this restaurant a lot. It's one of my favorite restaurants. Last night I dined here with my sister and cousins. I started with one of my favorite drinks, smoke on the water, which is like a Paloma. The smokiness comes from the mezcal tequila. Foxtail has great cocktails and an even better bourbon list. I would love for them to bring back my favorite bourbon drink, though, buffalo soldier. Every time I dine here I ask if they can make it, and they can't for some reason. Foxtail, please add this back to your specialty cocktails. The food is very good here. I've only had one miss while dining here before and that was the lobster dynamite appetizer. This time, however, I was unimpressed with the pear salad. It was overdressed and just meh. I was expecting more. With my pear salad I had the octopus appetizer. This is phenomenal. I love the flavors and the octopus is tender. The best part of last night was our server Juan. He was very attentive, engaging and we loved the banter back-and-forth with him. FYI...this restaurant is very loud in the evening. I heard about half the conversation last night at our table. When I go to Foxtail for brunch, it's less noisy. read more

A friend of mine and I stopped here for a drink prior to dinner elsewhere and we sat at the bar. The foxtail is a cute spot that gives off a calming and relaxing vibe. There is greenery throughout and the space itself is kept beautifully lit. I tried the smoke on the water cocktail which is a mezcal based drink. I noticed this drink has been posted several times with being served in a wine glass and presented smokey. Unfortunately that was not how I received mine. The portion was meh and I was underwhelmed with it due to looking forward to the 'drama' of it coming out smokin. The taste was OK, smokey, well balanced, just nothing special about it. For a $14 drink in a downtown area I was expecting more from it. As far as service it was OK! There wasn't much interaction with staff members but since we came in for 1 drink I didn't expect more than the standard 'how is everything? do you need anything else?' Drink Review Only! Happened into Foxtail to enjoy a predinner drink at their bar. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully designed with lots of textures, subtle color, fun lighting, and gorgeous bar accents. I asked for a recommendation between the Lost in Japan or The Fiona; they said to give Lost in Japan a try. The drink ended up being VERY acidic and tart but our bartender never circled back to check in to see how I liked the drink. I also wasn't able to identify most of the flavors listed in the drink description when tasting it. My friend's Smoke on the Water was much better balanced. Overall, I didn't love the one item I ordered here BUT the food that passed by looked good, atmosphere was great, and staff members we encountered were friendly. read more

I saw this on yelp and since I went to the one in Des Plaines, I thought I would try this one. I am so glad I did. I went with three other people for an appetizer. We had the grilled octopus we got two orders. It's kind of small, but it is the most tender delicious octopus. I could eat that for a meal. We had an appetizer of that and some roasted red peppers with pomegranate, pomegranate molasses and walnuts over warm bread delicious. My entrée was a CHARASHAI bowl it had salmon, Hamachi shrimp edamame FURIKAKE and very thinly sliced Serano peppers. My boyfriend had the salmon with mashed potatoes. I never order salmon out just because it's always so expensive and I could get a gigantic piece at Costco and my salmon is really good. This honestly was one of the best Salmon I've ever had and it was cooked to perfection My girlfriend's husband had a pork belly sandwich that looked amazing. I wanted to bite, but I didn't ask him. I'll have to try that again. He said it was very good and I have a tendency to believe him because he also loves good food and has eaten all over the world That atmosphere is in as cool as the one in Des Plaines but Brandon our server was awesome and the food and my blue Tokyo drink was delicious. Now I know why this is my nephew's favorite restaurant in the area. Everything is beautifully made and the Mediterranean influences mean it's healthy too. OK, maybe the mixed drinks aren't so healthy but they are fun, with names like Leaving On a Jet Plane, Smoke on the Water and Raspberry Beret. I don't usually do cocktails anymore, but since I currently live in MN, I had to try that last one and it was tasty! My dad's go-to appetizer here is the pita with garlic labneh ; we added a Burrata Wedge salad and shared that too. The salad was so good I think I had a little too much because I could not finish my very delicious main dish. My dad went with the Shrimp Poke Bowl, another item he's had before, and I might want next time. It checks a lot of boxes for nutrients but looked yummy too. Both of my sons got the Beef Shawarma, the fries taste as good as they look; I traded a bite of my Moroccan Tagine to try one. The tagine was heavenly, I am still trying to guess the spices in it , they were perfectly balanced so no single one stood out. I also liked that the vegetables were not mushy. The recipe I have at home is more stew like and soft, but I would rather learn to make it this way. Service was very attentive and prompt. We ate on the patio, screened off from the relatively quiet street. The outdoor furniture is sturdy enough but still classy. Indoors looked very nice too. I wasn't able to finish my tagine , so no dessert for me, but I did get a tiny taste of my son's magnificent carrot cake choice. The Foxtail apparently is a place I had passed by many times and didn't know it. It's almost like a speakeasy although it's not, I just didn't know about it, and it's right there, downtown. Brought my mother in law and husband here for brunch to celebrate their birthdays. it was the weekend but not busy at all during the time we came. Very pretty interior place. I was a little disappointed by their brunch menu as there were limited breakfast items and most of the items were lunch/dinner. For example my breakfast sandwich came with fries which didn't really go well together. I really would have wished that they had breakfast potatoes as the option on the side instead. We also got the paella and brick chicken- very excellent options and serving sizes were spot on for us. The space was mostly full of diners, but the noise level seemed lower than most places-very much appreciated, as well as the background music. When I arrived, I was seated quickly. The restaurant was not busy, but it took 20 minutes for someone to come by. It definitely shouldn't have taken that long to get someone to stop by. The server was very kind and apologized for what happened. The taleggio flatbread was delicious. The mushroom, honey, cheese, arugula combination was not something I've had before. It was very unique and I recommend it. I also had the chicken omelette with potatoes. It was salty for my taste. I'm not sure if the chicken was overly salted or the combination of ingredients made it salty. My friend had the jumbo lump crab omelette and said it was okay. I took a bite and it was better than what I had ordered. Overall, the inside is very nice and clean. The service was okay and the food was okay.
