For awhile I have seen this bar in Westmont and never went in. It looked like it would be a pretty cramped place. Walsh's is a lot bigger than it looks though. Kind of a nowhere location on Naperville Road close to only auto shops and the like. This is probably about as close to a typical sports bar as you can get with no fancy stuff. Came in for a bit to watch the Bears game. It amazingly wasn't that crowded inside. This was a lot bigger than I thought. Has the main bar area. That was packed, but there was a whole other area with a few tables. It's about $5 for a basic cocktail. Whatever and Coke is what to go with. Has basic food. It's about $3 for pretzels. Found out these weren't the baked soft pretzels or even pretzel bites. These were the kind that come in a bag, lol. Basic. These came with mustard at least. Giving it a better rating because of all the crap to look at. It has shit tons of sports memorabilia on the walls, so it's also like a museum. There's some cool old stuff, so take a look in here in spite of the mediocre food and whatever. read more

I hosted a diaper party for my daughter. I invited about 30 people. When I first booked it I told the owner we would be done by a certain time but we were still ordering drinks, and food up until that time, and after. The food didn't come out all at once so people were eating while others looked on. We got rushed out even though we were still ordering, and some didn't even get their food. The lady owner wanted to accommodate her regular customers. We felt snubbed. My money was no good there. The server kept talking about how they needed the tables. The owners never said thank you. They were more annoyed that we were there. Very Clicky place. My daughter lives down the street and someone suggested the food was so good (Eh) and it would be convenient for my daughter since she was pregnant. Wasn't worth be treated that way. We stopped in for lunch on a Monday, not a particularly busy day at a suburban bar. There were a few diehards sitting at the bar, but we were the only clients at a table. Our waitress was nice enough, but service was slow, especially for the number of clients in the facility and she never did come back to refill our drinks. Maybe they were shorthanded but the service was not what I had hope for. The burgers were good but not stellar. The prices were a little high for the overall experience. I will say there is same cool sports memorabilia hanging on the walls. Too bad we had time to look at ALL of it. Great place to go if you have all the time in world, but don't try to have lunch here if you are on a business schedule. read more

THE POCKETS! THE POCKETS! I am not sure how to describe these wonderful and delicious things. They are filled with just about anything you want, served warmed with cheesy goodness! It's a straight up bar so the ambiance is just that. It's a good place to grab a drink, a pocket and watch some sports. I have passed by this place many times but was totally unaware that this is a hidden gem. This place is not loud and has a nice ambiance with picture frames all around the bar. There are slots to try on and they have many options in beer. Food is awesome and I personally loved buffalo chicken breast pocket with garlic butter, sides are limited to chips and pickle. Do not expect too much from menu, it is just simple, tasty and light on wallet. read more

I've been a customer of Walsh's for over 10 years. The atmosphere is kind and fun. No drama and they always make me feel right at home. Their Pocket sandwiches are amazing. In case you missed my review that lasted all of about 5 hours before I remembered I left it- I enjoyed my evening at Walsh's (maybe a little too much). I think my original review went a little something like this: "I'm drunk. And I just came from Walsh's. It was pretty awesome." Went here on a whim one night when all the bars in Downtown Downers were packed for the 'hawks game. Heard it was kind of divy which was the appeal at the moment but it was actually surprisingly clean and nice inside! Our waitress was really pleasant and made sure our drinks kept coming but yet made sure it was okay to keep bringing me drinks past number 5 (seriously....how many did I drink!?). I thought that was pretty nice of her. There's not much there but I think it goes along with the company you keep- we had a fun evening just catching up with friends, playing music on the jukebox (until this idiot put $20 in and played METALLICA non-stop...UGH). The only downside is when surveying the menu it didn't look like much I could eat as a vegetarian with food allergies or much I'd want to eat anyway. They didn't have any french fries- isn't that the quintessential drunk carb binge food?? read more

My wife and I moved to the area not long ago and decided to check Walsh's out. After parking, we were immediacy greeted by two men (father and son!) relieving themselves in the lot. Not a great start. Walsh's is a tiny, cozy bar with video poker /slots which appears to be standard in suburban bars. The crowd is friendly and older with a fair amount of regulars. Prices were fairly reasonable with limited tap beer selection. Walsh's does not have any appetizers due to the lack of a deep fryer, so we went for the white chicken chili. Delicious. Unfortunately, we didn't order one of their notable pockets and with a pizza. I'm not sure if they even have an oven back there because it was nothing more than a microwave pizza. Bad move - steer clear. It's not all bad as it's a fun dive bar. We may return for a pocket or two. read more

The consistency of the meals here is impeccable. Ordered another of their famous "pocket sandwiches" and it was arguably BETTER than my first visit! Service was solid and the food quality is spot on! Over priced food that I can whip up at home without even turning on an oven. The only side they offer is chips and pickles! Not sure why this place has as many stars as it does. Visited for the first time last weekend with my husband as we just moved to the area. We were served by a very sorry unenthusiastic bartender who seemed to be bothered by us. Had a fabulous experience. I joked with patrons as soon as I sat at the bar. I had a pleasant exchange of conversation with the bartender. I decided to grab a bite, and glad I did. Found this place when I was working in Oak Brook and have been going for about 20 yrs now. I meet some long-time friends here once a month and though we tried other places for a couple of months to experiement, no one wants to leave now. Someone below called it a 'hidden gem' and I would totally agree. We had probably driven by 100 times, but had the misconception that this was more of a local shot & beer dive bar. It is not! Yes there looks like some regulars, but this is a great spot with, dare I say "charm" and character? Pub grub is better than average. Drink prices are reasonable. We have taken our kids there after practice and games and it has been great. There are a couple of waitresses who are very friendly and welcoming. It is not a very big place and they only have a limited table area so it is probably not the place to show up with the whole softball team. As an added bonus, they have Buzztime, which my wife and I like to play. Usually we have to go to Buffalo Wild Wings to play, which is the restaurant equivalent of nails on a chalkboard to me! We actually went to Walsh's after frequently seeing it on the top locations scores for Buzztime trivia. They have a very accomplished group of trivia experts there! I say definitely try it. read more
