I like Grill 89. It is the casual Ditka spot tucked in a strip mall. Warm interior and granite bar. Good for a snack or a full dinner. Plenty of TV's to catch the game. The beer menu is adequate. There are craft beer options, a strong wine list, and a full bar. Allie will be taking care of you. You will be in good hands. The pot roast nachos were surprisingly good, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Be prepared it does get busy on a Friday evening. What I have not had it, it looks like Italian carry out. I had to check out the deviled eggs, which were amazing, and the $3 mimosas, because, well it was $3! The staff was attentive and the prices were reasonable. Love, love, love the wood grilled salmon salad at Grill 89. A very generous salmon filet was cooked to perfection; crisp on the outside and moist inside. The salad is the perfect accompaniment with cranberry, apple, butternut squash and goat cheese. A lemon vinaigrette adds a bright touch. I'm torn between three and four stars on this one and I am rounding up for one reason: Ashley. She was very friendly and chatted with us quite a bit. She also gave us recommendations and I could tell some of the patrons were her regulars as she talked with them as well. The service was a 5. I actually used to frequent the Ditka's downtown and I've been to the one in Oakbrook as well and felt this was better. We came for brunch on a Saturday and sat at the bar, which was dead. However, by the time we left around noon, it was pretty crowded. The bloody was solid and better than Ditka's, in my opinion. It had a good spice level to it and the skewer had fresh ingredients on it. Of course with a Miller Lite pony. Two huge bonuses as well are free wifi with a password and outlets at the bar for charging. The outlets also have USB ports! I think all new restaurants should adopt this because it just keeps people there longer and if they are there longer, they spend money. The ambiance is decent. It's new but typical sports bar so nothing really special there. The spicy corn muffins were awesome. They were actually more moist than most corn muffins. The rest of the food was pretty average, to be honest. The potatoes were not my favorite. They had okay flavor but the texture was just dry and the peppers and onions were not really cooked. The BELT was actually pretty good. The bacon was the perfect texture for a sandwich because it was over crispy but chopped into tiny bits for easy eating. It was not at all fatty or soggy. However, this thing is huge and just difficult to eat more than a few bites as a sandwich so I ended up deconstructing it but still good. I order the eggs overeasy instead of over medium because I wanted a runny yolk and they still were too done, but not a huge deal. I took Ashley's advice and ordered it with a burger bun because it has less bread and was easier to eat. My husband got the waffle and he enjoyed it. I was more impressed with the service than the food but the food was good. The portions were a bit too large but I think it's a great brunch option in the area for those of us that want savory food and brunch cocktails. read more

I expected more. I ordered the 89 Burger which was almost $14 before tax. Most places I go to for burgers are considered "Gourmet" burgers and are around that same price. So, if I'm paying $14 for a burger my expectations are high and I'll compare that with other gourmet burgers. To start, the burger looks huge when they bring it out, but then you realize the inch of lettuce is making it look that big. The burger may be a third pound or even half pound, but when they bring it out it looks double the size. Flavor was ok, but definitely not worth the $14 and not something to go back and order. The burger came with either a side of fries or jalapeno coleslaw. The server sort of talked me into the coleslaw after telling me how good it was. Not sure if that's really fair though....fries OR coleslaw. The fries would have been an extra serving for me, but the coleslaw was just a little cup of lettuce. Ok, the coleslaw was better than regular coleslaw, but it wasn't anything to brag about. It also wasn't very spicy.... It seemed really authentic and sounded better than it turned out to be. The bar itself isn't bad, definitely a cool place to have lunch or a couple drinks after work, which is the only reason I'm keeping this at 3 stars and not less. Not sure if I'll go back, but if I do I'll try something completely different to see if that is any good. read more

Like a revolving door, this space has certainly seen it's share of restaurants since Cucina Roma closed it's doors a while ago. But given my recent visit here, while it's not exactly my kind of place, the food was quite good and given it's Ditka heritage, it has some very strong points going for it. When you pull open the door, the smell of BBQ greets you. The space is a bit sparse for my liking. Lots of wood and brick, but there is nothing warm about it. It reminded me of a lunchroom or a college bar, loud and functional but not particularly inviting. But the smell . . .oh that smell got me to thinking ribs right away even though I ended up with the fish tacos. My friend is a devout Ditka fan so when she saw the Ditka shortrib nachos on the menu, you can bet that is what we started with. Those things could have been our entire meal and we ordered a small. Piled high with cheese and other nacho like things, this plate was devoured by the two of us (did I say the food was quite good?) Next up were our entrees. I had the fish tacos (two to an order with a nice piece of fish in each) and my friend had one of their entree salads that was so big that she had enough to take home for another meal. Everything was quite tasty. Service was just okay but very friendly. I suspect our server was new as he hadn't really found his cadence for the right balance of when to approach the table but that will come with time. And I think we had a manager acting as food runner on the night we were there which worked out great as the food came up quickly and was properly prepared. Plenty of TV's for you to catch your favorite game on and if I were to go again, I think I might order the BBQ as the table next to us had two full racks and they smelled and looked great. Heard this place opened up and was affiliated with ditkas and wanted to try it out. Let me start out by saying service was top notch, from the hostess to one server, who we then asked to switch tables, to a different server. They were knowledgable and polite and I'm a pretty hard critic. For starters we had the salad and the chicken wings. The Sonoma coast chicken salad was pretty good, just enough dressing, chicken cut from the whole breast, and good ratios of bacon, corn, and avocado. The chicken wing rub was on the spicy side, which I like. For an entree I had the pork chop which came with steamed spinach and some sort of apple mango chutney and bourbon glaze sauce which was very well executed. My girl got the ribs which honestly were not good at all. Tasted like sulfur and you have to love a very deep smoked flavor to think they are good. For dessert I had a cup of the vanilla bean ice cream and a coffee. Typical but good whole cream and flavorful ice cream. If the ribs were better I would have given 5 star but they were pretty below average. I still highly recommend. They also have a full bar and flat screens everywhere to watch the game. I've returned with a friend to Grill 89, Sunday January 29 arrived at about 130. Two hostesses were at the hostess station, we were greeted and then led to a table, we asked instead to sit at a booth next to the windows. Our server greeted us and we ordered drinks, two coffees. He came back and we were ready to order, a very impressive menu there were many appealing options. I selected the Quarterback breakfast, 2 pancakes, eggs, potatoes and according to the menu, choice of bacon or sausage. When the server took my order, he didn't ask me if I wanted bacon or sausage, but really it didn't matter, either would have been fine. He did ask what type of bread I wake good my toast white wheat etc. When my food arrived it was brought to the table by a different server. We already had silverware but I noticed as soon as she walked away, I didn't have butter, syrup or jelly. Well with my pancakes getting less warm each seemingly growing longer second by second, our server had approached the table where I informed him as to the absence of butter syrup and jelly. He brought the dish over, 3 butters that were still too cold to easily spread and syrup and jelly. Too much time had elapsed however, the pancakes were not hot enough anymore to melt the too cold butter, the toast as well was not warm enough to melt the too cold butter. Sadly I ate my much anticipated Quarterback breakfast not hot or even warm hurriedly to try to at least enjoy as much as I could before I hesitated to push it away because, well, I was a little disappointed. I did receive bacon which I probably would have chosen anyway. I was ready to ask our server who was competent to toss my food in the microwave, every kitchen has a microwave right? Maybe? I didn't however, want to make a fuss. The coffee, was warm. I want to come back, I do, but Grill 89, I might just need some time away. read more

One of the best burgers in the Western Suburbs - can easily compete with the burger at Vistro in HInsdale BUT!! I like the decor here, but when it is busy the design of the place makes it really loud (hard surfaces and not many dividers). The staff has always been hit or miss (front of the house and servers). The managers have always been great. I love their brisket sandwich with fries or a salad! My husband loves their fish tacos and deviled egg appetizers. He has a severe gluten allergy and has never gotten sick from cross contamination there (He does quite often at other restaurants.). We have ordered take out from there at least 7-8 times. If I have a regular order with no special requests, it is correct. When I ask for no bun, I end up not getting the sauces that come on that sandwich. So the pot roast nachos are a great place to start. The pot roast has a bit of a smoked bbq flavor and is topped with tomatoes and several cheeses. Awesome burgers, thick and juicy. If you get the 89 burger, the onion, pickle, and lettuce will be chopped up finely and mixed together on the bun. For dessert I suggest the cookie skillet. The cookie itself tastes amazing and will come very warm topped with soft ice cream and whip cream. The building itself is huge, can handle big crowds of people and great private parties. Wow! Could it be? Has this jinxed location finally found a reason for being? Normally, I don't review a place unless I've eaten there more than once. And I don't usually do a breakfast-specific review for a restaurant that specializes in lunch/dinner. BUT, brunch was so freakin' awesome. While the brunch menu is limited, I think the options are sufficient. It would be nice to see a takeoff or version of eggs benedict, but they have personalized omelettes! Started out with bloody marys, mine being a virgin. I think it's the Ditka bloody Mary mix, but it works for me and the Hub! Just the perfect blend of spicy and flavorful, not too sweet and just enough kick to start the day. The Hub an original and it came with h'ordeuvres! So, when I go somewhere for brunch for the first time, I try to keep it simple...so I got the steak & eggs. The Hub got the Pot Roast Hash. Our meals came with toast. But our waitress brought out fresh syrup with jellies. We were confused because neither of us ordered pancakes, but our waitress said that's just the way they do their setup. I took it as a sign and ordered a side of buttermilk pancakes. OK, so where do I begin? How about kitchen, fantastic, front of the house needs work? The kitchen alone still makes the experience worthwhile! My eggs were over easy, my steak wasn't a leather-looking shoe sole but a real skirt steak cooked perfectly. The potatoes were well-done, as requested, mixed with colorful peppers and seasoned perfectly! The Hub's pot roast hash was equally delicious. The roast tasted like it was braised in wine and was tender and juicy! And the pancakes were huge and tasted like the pancakes from the olden days...light and fluffy, sweet but not too much. Now, this place has only been open a few monthes (Memorial Day, 2016), so I think they're still working out the bugs in the service department. But the kitchen is so right on, the lack of quality service can easily be overlooked. What I do find surprising is the staff. For a Ditka-related venture, they're awfully young and inexperienced, even though they've only been open a few monthes. But that must be because of the location. But I guess time will tell! I just hope this doesn't ruin the chances of this potential awesome kitchen sticking around!! FYI, the prices MAY sound a bit high when you look at the menu for the first time, BUT in comparison to other breakfast places in the area, I think they are extremely reasonable!! I recently had a business lunch at Grill 89 and was was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting pretty standard bar food, but the food was damn good. Grill 89 is a clean, modern "upscale bar" that has a BBQ twist to it. I ordered the brisket and it was perfect. I hate fatty briskets and this was a good lean, smokey brisket with a ton of flavor. The BBQ sauce wasn't my favorite, but it did the job. The fries however were too good for my liking. Yep, that's right they were too good. At first I thought maybe he had a lazy eye but then he had a weird smirk on his face. He just kept looking down at it. He even asked me to help him "shake it" whatever that means.
