It started out innocently enough. Grill House boasts a quaint and charming ambiance alongside an extensive, tantalizing menu. After receiving multiple recommendations from fellow guests at the Fountainbleu Hotel, we were not prepared for the saga that awaited us. Grill House is a modern Mediterranean restaurant located just off 41st Street in Miami Beach. It serves up everything from Satay teriyaki chicken, Asian Korean steak, and Moroccan meatballs to lamb chops, burgers, and grilled chicken. Things started off on a good note. When we arrived, we were promptly seated. Our waitress quickly introduced herself and asked if we had any questions. She was nice, friendly, and personable. But our server's nice demeanor was unable to hide her lack of knowledge about many of the items on the menu. When I inquired about the differences between several cuts of meat, she was unable to provide me with any details. In fact, many of the things she told me directly contradicted what was actually written on the menu! We started things off with the basics - chicken drummettes marinated in a sweet and spicy sauce. The presentation was nice for this flavorful appetizer. We hoped this was a prelude to the main course. But our high hopes were quickly dashed when we realized that we had inadvertently entered a time warp. Time....stood....still. Children grew up, a few ice ages came and went, and yet there was no sign of our steak and grilled chicken entrees. Once we realized it had been eons since we placed our order, my wife and I decided to play a little game we enjoy while waiting for our food. We placed bets on exactly how long it would take for the food to arrive. Since we were on vacation and in no hurry, we were up for a fierce round of the betting game. We therefore deliberately avoided asking the wait staff why it was taking so long for our entrees to arrive. An hour into our little food game there was still no sign of the entrees. A full hour!!!! At this point I broke down and asked our waitress what was taking so long. She said she will ask the kitchen and give us an update. Several minutes later she informed us that the food "will be here any minute". It sounded promising but "any minute" wound up being code for twenty more minutes! That's how long it took after our server assured us the food would be arriving "any minute". Finally, after 80 interminable minutes, the entrees mercifully arrived. The victory was short lived. My steak, which was ordered medium, arrived completely rare. I quickly asked to speak to the manager, who offered up a half-hearted apology. He blamed it on a glitch in the computer ordering system. When he offered us a complimentary glass of wine, I told him at this point I would be thrilled if they could simply cook my steak to a perfect medium and bring it back quickly. About fifteen minutes later the steak returned. The good news is that the steak was cooked to a perfect medium and was quite flavorful. The bad news is that this was a sub par steak. At $55 the steak was grossly overpriced for such an inferior cut of meat. It was not well marbled and contained plenty of gristle. I've honestly had $10 steaks from the supermarket that were higher quality than this steak. On a postive note, my wife's chicken breast was a generous double portion that fared much better than the steak. Had I known better, I would have certainly ordered the chicken breast and saved us two hours of heartache. The sides were lackluster in every way. From cold, soft fries to can quality rice and vegetables, the sides came up short for us on all fronts. All in all, despite the nice ambiance, Grill House wound up feeling like a makeshift operation rather than a seasoned restaurant. They could improve the experience with a more professional wait staff and streamlined kitchen. From the misinformed and inexperienced servers to the inconsistent and disappointing food, this tiresome experience is not something I plan on soon repeating. read more

We decided to order appetizers, let's just call them by what they should've been called in the first place. Chicken toes (drummettes)--so tiny the meat couldn't cover a penny, rack of lamb fat (baby lamb spare ribs)--not quite sure what baby lamb has lived long enough to become so fatty... My 17 year old daughter and I went to Grill House last night for dinner and I had to leave a review this morning. I read the not so good reviews along with the good ones before deciding on going and I'm glad I took the chance. We got greeted by the waiters upon entering and seated right away. He took our drink order right away and soon after, the food order. We both ordered the beef filet skewers, cooked differently, with sweet potato fries and French fries. The beef was amazing! Cooked exactly how we ordered it and the seasoning was so delicious. Both fries were delicious too I had a glass of Cabernet and was pleasantly surprised of the serving size. More than I'm used to getting. The check came as a paper receipt with the 18% gratuity clearly on it, not as some said a tablet. And a pleasant thank you and goodbye as we walked out. Came here on Passover with my wife for a nice romantic meal. Ha! I forgot it was Passover. The place was packed! And as a result there were a few mistakes that I'll deal with because it was the time it was. My food, Kebabs and the lamb ribs were excellent, juicy and tender, my wife's Talapia was overcooked and Waaay to salty, so much so that she sent it back. Despite it being so busy and some screwups with the food, we received amazing service. Parking is kind of weird.. there is street parking in the front and on the side, and a lot just to the immediate east, but it's hard to get to. You'll have to carefully watch out for the location as the signage is not so great. I'd definitely come back for another try when it's not Passover. That will be a real test. They are too focused on getting paid to remember to give you your complete order. I visited this kosher restaurant tonight and the decor and ambiance is actually quite nice. They have comfortable seating indoors or outside so you can enjoy the balmy Miami weather while you eat. Unfortunately, the service is horrible. We sat down and waited there for a few minutes before the waitress addressed us and I actually had to ask for water. In a nice place like this they should immediately serve you cold water. We ordered and it literally took 20 minutes for our appetizer to come out- the Middle Eastern platter. Seriously? The only thing that was prepared hot on this plate were 4 tiny falafel balls, everything else was cold so what takes so long? I was not impressed- the fig leaves were barely edible and the Israeli salad was very oily. Sure, the hummus was ok but it's hard to screw that up. A full 20 minutes later, our main courses were served, and only after we asked several times about it. The restaurant was not particularly busy so a wait time of 40 minutes is really ridiculous. I ordered the Reserve steak- 12 oz 45 day aged "top cut". I took several bites and was immensely disappointed. They have the nerve to charge $56 for this?? The steak was bland- no salt or pepper on it, and it was not tender either. Honestly, I've cooked better steaks on my grill at home seasoned with McCormick steak spice. It came with a host of tiny mediocre side dishes, rice pilaf, mashed potatoes, fries....all bland. I complained to the manager and he did attempt to make it better by seasoning the steak and putting it back on the grill but it didn't help much. I tried the Walnut crusted salmon with mango sauce and that was much better. The fish was tasty and cooked well. It was really the only thing they got right. Our Brazilian waiter was very friendly and did his best but ultimately the food was coming out at a snail's pace so the problems seem to be originating in the kitchen. He was the only worker there with energy and it was disappointing to spend so much money and have lousy service where you have to ask for water and refills. Kosher restaurants know they have you by the balls bc your options are severely limited. If this place wasn't kosher, they would be out of business in 3 months. The food is overpriced and bland, and the service leaves a lot to be desired. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

BEWARE! The food here was good but we found out after checking our credit card statement that they had added an extra $4 to the bill after it had been closed out already. This restaurant already includes 18% tip to the bill so it's not like they weren't tipped. Who knows how many people they do this to?! They deserve nothing more than one star considering they are stealing from customers. We even gave them a second chance after our last visit where the owner was arguing audibly with another customer who had a complaint about an overcharge on their bill. Service was completely wrong, the waiter and manager were overwhelmed and we waited 30 min after our reservation to be seated, and had to wait 45 min to get our food. The ribs are mostly bones, the Nyc steak is mostly fat and the merguez are about 10$ a piece. When we obviously complained the chef came out of his kitchen to tell us he doesn't care and starting screaming in the restaurant because he felt offended. We paid entirely and left.
