Came here after the recommendation of a local guide. The place was empty, minus the one customer taking his order. By the time we left, it was packed. We were advised to sit wherever we chose. The gentleman serving us was nice, albeit very quick. We ordered the egg drop soup (one bowl is enough for 2 people), the shrimp and green beans and the sweet and sour chicken, with fried rice and steamed rice, respectively. The egg drop soup was delicious. We've not been able to find a place that serves egg drop soup that is flavorful, not salty and with visible cooked egg until now. Absolutely delicious. The green beans and shrimp were cooked to perfection and the sweet and sour chicken came with the sauce on the side, which kept the chicken crispy. Food was great, would eat here again. Down side? Bathroom smelled foul. I want to advise the owners to take a good look at their ventilation system, as the smell was just gross. The decor is absolutely confusing (Chinese paintings, naval decor) and the TV was running for the one staff member who kept watching synopsis of movies, some of them a bit disturbing and not fit for a family restaurant. All we ordered for take-out, was the vegetarian noodle (mae fun) dish. What we got was noodles with a good amount of broccoli, a few slivers of carrot and a few slices of onion, with an egg on top. No other vegetables. No mushroom. No squash. No beans, asparagus, sprouts, peppers. Just the few slivers of carrot, few slices of onion, and a handful of broccoli. No sauce. It was ok. We added our own sauce (sesame oil, soy, and [real, no faux] maple syrup - which is delicious!), to make it edible, and we added our own chicken to make a meal. Nice, large place inside. I'm guessing the Bar in the name refers to Sushi bar as for alcohol a few random bottled beers and a half dozen gas station pre mixed drinks isn't a bar in my book. Went to a new "izakaya" on the Far East. I was excited because I loved going to Japanese bars after work and getting BBQ meat in skewers (yakitori). Unfortunately, Grill Noodle Bar is not an izakaya. They don't have their liquor license yet and their food is decidedly not Japanese, but Mainland Chinese... The cuisine is Chinese shaokao (BBQ) or xiaochi (small bites) which consists of skewers of meat, seafood, or veggies heavily spiced with Chinese Five Spice Powder or Cumin. When I say it's heavily spiced, it is almost unbearably spiced here. The spices overpowered the actual food and I guess it would even out if there was actual beer to wash down the extremely salty items but there was only a weak boba milk tea that was entirely flavorless. We got most of the skewers and my favorites were the fish balls and prawns. The chives were inedible. The mutton was also so dry it was jerky like on a stick, extremely hard to eat. They heavily use the same spices so everything started tasting alike, just different textures. Between the food, the service and the price I wouldn't come back unless they work out the kinks. We were there for almost 1.5 hours and 30 minutes was wasted because they forgot to put in our food order. The baos are obviously frozen and microwaved, then put on a steam bamboo tray so presentation is good, but the food isn't great. I had high hopes too. I'm hoping it's because they've been open less than 2 weeks and like other restaurants, are severely understaffed. They did give us some custard baos as a sorry for the fiasco. The restaurant is clean and well lit-but it was clearly a seafood place prior and the new business just hung up a sushi sign along with Oriental Lanterns to make it a Chinese place...I just don't understand the lack of effort to change decor to match the cuisine for the full experience. For the main course, we ordered Orange Chicken (the sauce was epic! It was fresh and vibrant) but the chicken left little to be desired for me-overly breaded and not cooked long enough so it was doughy inside. My husband ordered the combo noodles (shrimp, chicken and beef-definitely more noodles than meat-but it was good). My noodles were decent plus I added broccoli for a vegetable-but there was $4 up charge-so please know The noodles/rice are charged separately. Ok, let's talk about the portion size. It is huge! We were stuffed when we left. The service was decent, the food came out quickly and hot, so that was awesome! There was a ramen soup pictured on their website that had my husband had decided to try, upon arriving, the place was empty, just us and the waitstaff. We were seated and the server took our drink order and appetizer order. My husband asked the server what the name of the ramen soup on their website was, she had a confused look on her face and asked if she could take the phone to the chef to see if he knew what the name of the soup was. Upon returning she lets us know that the chef had no idea what the name of the soup was and that the pictures online are not theirs! Isn't that like false advertisement?? The orange chicken was slimy, the sushi tasted old, my daughters chicken skewers were dry and they served my husband expired beer... the expiration date on the beer was 01/2023. Ramen! Ramen! Ramen! This place is phenomenal. When it first opened i'd rate it a 3.5 because it was hit or miss. However, since then the menu has expanded, cooking has improved, and the dining experience is so much matter. The sushi is equally as good. Then add the 20% discount during the weekdays. Stormy night so we wanted some warm soup. We walked in here for the first time and were taken aback by how nicely decorated it was inside. Nice private booths if you're on a date. We were immediately greeted and allowed to sit anywhere we wanted. The menus were brought out quickly and our drink orders taken fast. We ordered cream cheese wontons that were so delicious! Definitely gonna order again. For entree we ordered two bowls of ramen: Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen WITH the golden corn (add on) and the Nagasaki Seafood Ramen. Very generous portion sizes! The broth in the Tonkotsu was delicious! I didn't taste the other bowl but my spouse said it was delicious as well. I'll give the bad news first. The vibe is ehh. We went in on a Monday evening, and it was us and one other table. There was like salsa Cuban music playing which was weird. We were wondering if the owners are from FL? Outside of that the food was sooooo delicious. We had steamed dumplings which were amazing. I had the bok choy w tofu/mushroom .. it was so good. This is a new restaurant on the Far East side of El Paso. The portions are great for the price. I enjoy Asian cuisine so I was excited to try it out. I enjoyed the takoyaki and pork Bao I rate them a 4/5. The sushi was pretty decent for the price and portion was great. Especially for a restaurant that is not solely based on sushi. Came out fresh with great flavor. I give the sushi a 3.5/5. Lastly the fried rice with sweet and sour chicken was a 5/5. It was great both filled with delicious flavor and came out hot and crunchy. So went in with a fresh mindset after walking into flautas pilas (separate review). The theme was noodles and ramen with traditional chinese dishes. Still confused in regards to the decor. Palm trees, with a sushi station that is not being used and not on the menu. A bar with no alcohol or beer. All this and i have not even tasted the food yet. Next the curry ramen .. umm yeah. so i don't know why anyone in the ramen making business would add sliced ginger as a garnish.. I thought they were Julianne peppers or carrots. I had to spit it out. The curry pork base broth itself was ok, i just don't know why it had a licorice taste to it. Lastly instead of the traditional pork belly rolled and cook in a broth then sliced round, i literally got bacon slices. Of course the wife wanted the nagasaki seafood ramen. Also the dough had a somewhat raw texture and was more dough than meat filling. This place has a bad case of multiple personality disorder or a hardcore identity crisis! This faux-izakaya doesn't know if it's mexican, chinese, japanese, or middle eastern! I think the cooks in the back just grab spices at random, laugh, and say to each other "let's see what this does?" We ordered a chicken teriyaki and an unagi (eel) bowl, and a variety of grilled skewers. Both bowls came with the proteins on top of fried rice that was long-grain, undercooked, and more like a mexican that an asian-style rice. The vegetables that came on the side were actually cooked right, still crunchy and tasted good. The chicken was drizzled with an teriyaki like sauce that tasted strongly like cinnamon. The eel was good, but the bowl ($15) only had 4 nigiri-sized pieces on it. The pork belly and squid skewers were also good, the proteins had a nice fire-grilled char but were seasoned with cumin and curry??? Their flavor profile was more middle eastern than anything resembling asian. Although not completely terrible, it was somewhat overpriced relative to the portions. Stopped in and sat right away, then everything went down hill from there. The waitress told us she was about to get off so look over the menus and dipped. The new waitress never came to our table I had to walk up to the bar and ask if anyone was going to take our order. When she finally came to our table we asks about the beers they have and she told us she didn't know and we could walk from our table to the bar to go see smh. We decided to leave after that. Ordered the baos and they were undercooked , and smelled quite funky. I took one bite and knew not to eat any more. Not to worry, i was given a 10% discount instead of getting it removed from the bill. I also ordered the Shoyu with a chill bomber.
