We just spent a week at St Pete Beach and Grillin N Chillin is right next to Rick's Reef and St Pete Beach Suites where we were staying. After a long day at the beach (we went down to Fort De Soto Park), we weren't ready to barbecue our own food outside, so I suggested I'd walk over to Grillin N Chillin. They have short hours and it's a take-out window, so there's no sit-down here. It's perfect to grab & take back to your room. The nice British couple staying next to us said, "Oh, you love your takeaway ..." Well ... I can't give 4 stars because we ordered the barbecue salad which was good, but only a small portion of brisket. Bruce + Jack got most. I ordered mac & cheese, which is an extreme rarity for me. Bruce got the baked beans which were dark with molasses and very good. So, it's soul food barbecue!! Highly recommended taste - and I get that a business has to make a profit but cup 'o meat wasn't quite enough for two of us. BBQ spring rolls/egg rolls were more like lumpia, and that was a good thing.

Just stopped by and got the brisket and rib combo with cole slaw and collard greens and I was very happy. The brisket was tender and juicy. The ribs were very well seasoned and tender. The sauces were a slam dunk. I loved the spicy bbq sauce and of course my favorite mustard based bbq sauce. The owner Jason definitely put his foot in all the food he cooks there. I will be back to try more next time I'm in this side!!!!

All I have to say is "All that Chill'n makes for some really good Grill'n". Jay hooked it up for a big family dinner. It was the hit of the vacation. If we ever come back to the area we most definitely order it up.

Well-versed on the menu and a very pleasant lady. It's certainly not a fancy place and it looks like it's been around for a while, but it's the kind of place where you might like to hang out at the bar. Everyone there seems to be friendly and you get that comfortable feeling. We had a variety of food items, some better than others but nothing below average. Really good salads, as you can see by the pictures, a nice job on the chicken wings, a BLT that was pretty tasty; the butternut squash soup was OK, pretty thick and not hot at all. One was returned to the kitchen to be heated up. There was a chicken dip that really didn't hit the spot, and the tortilla chips that came with it seem to be past their prime. As for the fried mushrooms. I found them pretty much ordinary. A nice surprise were the brussels sprouts with balsamic and goat cheese. Really really good. Overall, I would give the food about a 3 1/2 stars at the service five stars so what averages out around four stars. Like I said it looks like a nice place to hang around and have a couple of beverages and a little something to eat.

Fair warning though, it mysteriously…read moreshrinks after a few washes (or maybe the food here is just that good at making my waistline expand? The jury is still out). I genuinely like this place, but my latest visit was a gentle reminder that even the greats have their off nights. We grabbed a spot on the outdoor patio, which is great because there are tons of TVs playing sports to keep you entertained. And you're going to need that entertainment, because the vibe this particular evening was heavily operating on "island time." I started to wonder if our server had to physically row to an island to get our order. It was a very long wait just to be acknowledged, and an even longer wait for drinks. Funniest part? My beer arrived well before my water. I was incredibly parched, and while I appreciate a cold brew, I didn't exactly want to shotgun my beer just to survive the drought. The tap water finally made its grand, triumphant entrance a solid 20 minutes after we sat down. When it came time to order, we met the Upcharge Enthusiast. Here's the deal: burgers come with rice and beans by default. If you want Bob's fries, that's a $2 upcharge. I tried to shoot for the stars and upgrade to onion rings. The response? A firm, almost offended no. "Those are an appetizer," I was informed. Honestly, our server seemed to derive a bizarre, villainous amount of joy from telling me things were an upcharge. Hey, whatever brings you happiness, just take my two dollars and make the fries happen. After the drinks took a serious scenic route, the food came blazingly fast out of the kitchen, but when it finally arrived...wow. The burgers here are absolute behemoths. You literally have to unhinge your jaw like an anaconda to take a bite. I have to admit, they are undeniably amazing. One bite almost makes you forget you spent the first half of the evening contemplating drinking water out of a patio planter. Pro-tip: Bring paper money! They give you a nice little discount if you pay in cash. Overall, I still really like this joint. Every restaurant is allowed to have a rough service night every now and then, and this just happened to be one of them. I'll definitely be back although I just might pre-hydrate in the parking lot next time.
