Pathetically managed and sorry service. Mr Manbun wanted to stick me in the back of the bar but I asked for a table up front with everyone else. Took forever for the waiter with a nose ring to eventually come around. Brought a Diet Pepsi when asked for regular one. I ordered a starter and two slices with 3 toppings. The starter was supposed to be free if you signed up via the QR code in the menu, but fat chance when their WIFI has no Internet connection and cell service is spotty in their restaurant. An hour later no pizza. I asked the waiter about it and he was surprised it was not out. Isn't wait staff supposed to keep up with their orders, making rounds? I told him I was ready to leave over this. He went in the back, and never returned. I left. Single customers are treated like crap at this sh_t show. Sadly, I never got to try the coal fired pizza. Updating my review from four years ago -- and wow, how times (and prices) have changed! This recent delivery was a bit disappointing at first, but I have to give major credit to Grimaldi's customer service. It wasn't the delivery driver's fault -- an employee at the store only gave the driver one of the pizzas from my order. When I called to let them know, they immediately apologized and even sent a gift card to make it right. That level of customer care is rare and truly appreciated. As for the food -- they still have the best fennel sausage pizza in the Charleston area, hands down. Most other pizza places around here use that crumbled, overly salty sausage, but Grimaldi's gets it right every single time. My only real complaint? The price. Looking back at my old review, a large pizza was around $26 -- now they're closer to $35-$40. It's definitely on the pricey side, but the quality and flavor still make it one of the best pies in town. read more

I have plenty of time to sit here in Grimaldis and write a review while we wait for over 45 minutes for our pizza. This happened last time too. It should not take this long to get a pizza on a SLOW Saturday afternoon. Half the tables are empty, we did not get here during a rush and here we sit. Our server came up at the 40 minute mark and said "your pizza is in the oven". Why it is just now in the oven is beyond me unless we were forgotten about. End of review....still waiting on one pizza. Update: someone came out at 50 minutes to say our pizza was overcooked and they had to make a new one. This amazingly was the same thing that we were told last time. Not only feeling ignored and forgotten but also being fed lies instead of pizza. Final update: Pizza arrived after a second person came to check on us. 60 minutes waiting for one large pizza. We were given a coupon for "one free dessert" for our troubles. We ate our pizza and gave our coupon to the table next to us. Charged $68 for 5 drinks, a salad and one pizza. Wow, literally the best service I have ever experienced in my life. The atmosphere is so welcoming and it's clean inside and out. Matt was our server and he explained the menu to us like you wouldn't even believe. I enjoy when people know everything about where they work and some of the pizzas he recommended were actually great. I had "The Don" 12" pizza & my date had the "Xtra Pepperoni & Hot Honey" 12" pizza and literally cooked to perfection they both tasted great. Another nice meal. Went about 8:00 not at all busy. Enjoyed their 1/2 price White Sangria which was so refreshing. Great Caesar salad with added bacon and cucumbers. The others enjoyed their Gluten Free pizza choices, even tho mine came out when theirs was almost finished Grr. "Sorry we had to remake yours"! But it was hot n delicious. The cheese pulls OMG! Yumz. I visited Grimaldi's and I immediately felt a bit of Nostalgia looking at the Photos of NYC staples like the Statue of Liberty and replicas of subway signs. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. We ordered a 16" pizza, half pepperoni and half sausage. The sauce was tangy and savory. The toppings were premium. I would definitely eat here again. My one negative is that we ordered a Ceasar salad starter and it wasn't brought out. We had to ask for it. We were almost done with our pizza when it finally came out. I just couldnt decide which one I wanted so the sampler is the way to go The menu is a bit limited in terms of items offered but the pizza is out of this world. Gotta say I've got mixed feelings about this place. But not the pizza nor the salad. If you're in it for the food and the kitsch atmosphere then you're in good hands. If you're not in it for the hurry-up and wait service with a bit of lived-in space, then get it to go! There was a bit of a wait for a table despite there being several empty spots (and yes, they apparently take reservations). The place has a family lived-in vibe, a bit New York meets Chicago underground by way of a themed "Italian" restaurant. I dug the wine bottle repurposed chandelier lighting, family-style photos and the NYC subway signs. Our server was rushy, but the manager who visited us twice during the visit was very delightful. The timing of everything was a bit off. Our salad came out almost immediately and then we waited 25 minutes for the first of our pizzas and another 10 minutes & 5 additional after that for the other two. That being said... DRINKS: They only serve beer & wine (which is totally fine because that's what most people drink with a pizza, so I get it). The white sangria was nice on the hot day. FOOD: We opted for the Caesar Salad with shaved parmesan and added Salami. The dressing was a perfect proportion of lemon zest and creaminess. Highly recommend this and add meat (grilled chicken will be my pick next time.) I would go back alone for the salad had the pizza not been so delish! I ordered the Cauliflower Crust (GF) White Pie & added bacon -- to die for! Another diner has Celiac and opted for the Gluten Free white-based with pesto and fresh mozzarella and added grilled chicken; the meat was huge and so tender. Our third diner built her own and the ingredients were super fresh; she especially loved the mushrooms. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. The Verdict: Order online and pick it up! If it's a nice day, there's some nearby seating under the oak trees, or the beach is a short 10-minute ride away. It's worth it for that salad and the pizza! read more

Husband and I were doing some last minute shopping and there was a delicious aroma in the air. We tried to figure out where it was coming from and found ourselves walking into the doors of Grimaldi's. When we walked in, we were seated immediately. We sat next to each other so we could watch the end of the SEC Championship playing on the TVs at the bar, but then the bigger tv went out and we only had the smaller tv available behind the bar. That was fine until a family of four was seated at a tall table between us and the far tv. Bummer! Our food came before the 4th quarter ended and our apps were SOOOO good! That balsamic vinegar was so good! The pizzas came and yum! They were slightly burned on the bottom, but that was totally fine! It was delicious and perfect! Not the best, not the worst.. it is a chain after all. The Brooklyn inspired pizza joint was calling my name after I grabbed some ice cream at Jeni's. Upon getting seated, our attentive server brought us some complementary bread. The bread was plain but there was olive oil on the table for dipping. My group split a pizza: the Brooklyn bridge. The pizza was good but was heavy in red sauce and a little burnt on the edges. However, the ricotta cheese saved the day. My overall experience here was ok. Upon walking in, low lighting and cute NY inspired decor. Our personal server was really nice. She was attentive and checked on us frequently. We were right next to where they baked the pizzas. We got the Brooklyn Bridge pizza and it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. It was burnt, bland, and just missing flavor.. and the crust was just way too tough. I don't know if I will go back but if I do, I hope for a better pizza experience. read more

A girl of us 5 girls met here for lunch. It was my first time eating at this restaurant and I will be back. We were immediately seated when walking in. It was around 1 on Saturday. Great place with substandard pizza. Our server- John - was excellent. The pizza was a disappointment. I ordered a pepperoni the results looks like this...watered down sauce, barely cooked pepperoni and minimal cheese. I attempted to eat a slice but could not eat it. My wife's pizza came with similar results. The Mediterranean salad was good and was fresh. The ambiance was OK until the flies started to swarm the already questionable pizza. I rated this a three because of John's great service. The manager was also on top of things as far as service is concerned although I did not talk to him about the quality of the food.
