The sandwiches were good but not great. We waited 45 minutes for deli sandwiches, so if you're in a time crunch, this is not the place to go. We went at 1pm and they were out of many of their items. After waiting for 35 min, we were told one of the meats for one of the sandwiches was out, so that was a bummer after waiting for so long to have to switch our sandwich order. I am not being hyperbolic, this obscure little sandwich spot has the best customer service I think I've ever experienced. The owner/staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. I would go back solely for that. On that note, my sandwich was also delicious! I was so damn hungry I forgot to take a picture of it lol. I got a Steak Philly with au jus. Went with a bunch of friends and everyone seemed to love their food. It was pretty busy, the owner offered us free chips and drinks because it took a bit to make (nothing egregious). Having just transferred to Colorado Springs.... I'm always looking for local grub. It was recommended i try Grinder Sandwhich. The first time i went I had their Italian Grinder. It was good. It had great flavor and well presented very well. However, I was wanting to try their Rueben sandwich. I was told they make their own meat. Luckily I stopped by last week, and they were well stocked with their homemade meat. I was properly greeted right away with the one of the most friendliest staff I've encountered so far in COS. I ordered the Rueben with potato salad and tea. After sitting down, Michael began a great conversation with the history of the establishment and was very welcoming and introducing several great selections they had on the menu. My sandwich was brought out and didn't disappoint. It was stacked with ingredients, hot and had great depth of flavor. Truly the best Rueben I've had in COS and I will definitely be returning... We wanted to try somewhere new and found Grinder Sandwich here on yelp. We had the Reuben sandwich and the Corned beef sandwich. Both were excellent! It was our first visit so we got the side of chips, next time we will get a house made side. The service was good, it is more of a order your sandwich at the counter and find a place to sit, so we didn't have much interaction with them. However they did say have a good day as we left. As soon as you walk in you are slapped in the face with the most delicious of smells! They have several sandwiches to choose from, but I decided to go with their new Steak Philly. It was soooo good! It came with Aus jus which was a nice added extra. I feel bad for the people sitting near me because my audible yummmms happen frequently. I didn't realize that they closed at 2, so I told them to wrap it to go. They guy making the sandwiches told me it was totally fine that I stay to eat, but thanked me for offering. They had ran out of turkey for the day so they offered the customers that had turkey in their sandwich a substitute meat and gave them a free bag of chips! This place is very slow in cranking out the sandwiches - expect a wait for your order. I got there 2 minutes past 11am and was the 6th person in line. I ordered a corned beef sandwich and a pastrami with swiss to go. I tried to order a side of coleslaw, but they didn't have any. I also tried to order the soup of the day and same thing they didn't have that either. After a 30 minute wait, I was informed by the lady who took my order that they were out of corned beef. Really? I changed the order to a roast beef sandwich. She came back a second time and asked if pepper jack cheese for the pastrami was OK, they were out of swiss. Really? I walked out the door with my order at 11:54 almost an hour after getting there. That's too long for a deli sandwich. To be fair - one of the owners, I guess that's who he was, was very apologetic about the delay but honestly, even after getting my order straight at the 30 minute mark - why were customers who came in after me getting their orders? It takes another 30 minutes to get my order? As to the food, the pastrami was sliced thin and apparently re-heated on the griddle - it had crispy pieces to it and was very dry. I didn't taste the smoke or the coriander. Their website says house smoked but it didn't taste it. The meat to bread ratio was lacking and the pickle was a poor excuse for a pickle. The roast beef was better but lacked flavor. Don't fall for all the great reviews like I did. read more

I just had write about this place as I just discovered it today. If you like comfort soup - oh my goodness - the chicken noodle soup is absolutely DELICIOUS. Hands down, the best in town. Lots of fresh veggies, broth isn't too salty, noodles are not mushy... excellent. I also ordered the Johnny sandwich and the mixed greens were so fresh and still crisp. Nice, clean family owned sandwich shop close to the airport. When you walk in, there's a strong smell of fresh bread. They get their bread fresh from a local shop close by called The sourdough boulangerie. We ordered the bruscetta and were really in the mood for a good grilled cheese sandwich, so we got that. The grilled cheese isn't on the menu, so you will have to ask for it. They can make it on any bread with any type of cheese. We also got a side of the potato salad. Everything took about 10 minutes to make. The staff is really friendly. While we were eating, the owner came by multiple times to make sure we were doing okay. Stopped in today as it was close to the new office. I ordered the Steak Philly on the recommendation of Mike the owner.. All I can say is WOWZERS!! I have had a lot of Philly sandwiches in my life time and I mean ALOT... To include the OGs in Philly.. I have to say that this one beats them all !!(except the OG but hey.. thats where it started) The steak was freshly sliced, the veggies were grilled/sautéd to perfection and the cheese.. the cheese was like a fluffy snow cap on Pikes Peak of gooey melted goodness. 2nd time and still amazing! Had the Italian Grinder and hubby had the Big Albert. So happy I brought hubby to try it. Italian was perfect and so wide I could barely take a bite out of it. It was perfect and the bread was fresh. Had the potato salad on the side, not sweet mustard base, tasty. The pork on the Albert was smoked recently and came with coleslaw and beans. Super tender, and a nice Smokey flavor with a swirl of BBQ sauce, added some slaw on top a happy tummy memory was made. This place is a hole in the wall and an absolute must try. We will be back and we can't wait to eat our way through the rest of the menu. Ordered a meatloaf sandwich to take home to Grammy, not sure it will make it back in one piece. Grinder Sandwich can be hard to find but believe me when I tell you that it is worth looking for. The menu can definitely be a bit intimidating if you don't already know what you'd like but the staff are friendly and charming, happily helping guide you through it until you find what speaks to you. For me that was The Mikey, a rustic and hearty homemade French Dip sandwich with a side of fresh coleslaw. Watching them prepare the sandwich and pass it through the toaster a few times until it reached the perfect texture and temperature made it clear to me that this was not your standard sandwich shop experience, and I don't think that's a bad thing. The atmosphere is lively and friendly which comes across with almost a small town, "everybody knows everybody" vibe. The food is excellent, locally sourced and filling. The only drawbacks for me are the hours (only open until 2, so no chance of grabbing another sandwich on my way home) and the lack of a soda fountain. Sandwiches are something that can leave the mouth a bit dry and I'm not sure how far a can of soda will get you. Luckily, I went with the unsweetened tea and that was generous enough to get me through. All in all, I'll be returning many times over and absolutely taking friends here assuming I run into them before the doors are closed. read more
