Call it a 2.5. My…read moregroup wanted to like this place, and on the surface it seems like a slam dunk. Good "elevated" Mexican food is hard to come by and the menu seemed interesting. The tequila list with Fortaleza and the like gave me a lot of hope as well. Alas, it was not to be. Not a hint of spice in anything, from the salsa to the various meals we had. You can tell the quality of the ingredients was good, but the *flavor* was just not there. This began with the salsa, which looked promising but had zero taste. My group had three entrees - beer battered fish tacos, the 3 taco combo (cochinita pibil, quesabirria, and a taco de tinga), and the mixed grill. I also had the La Sandia cocktail, which took forever and tasted... unfortunate. It had an odd salty note and a weirdly thick consistency that reminded me of PediaLyte. Not the best beginning. The overall theme for the meals was the same - everything was acceptable but boring, especially in the flavor we were hoping for. The term we came up with was "inoffensive" - no spice to speak of in anything, despite the items being seasoned and not bland. The mixed grill is huge and the grilled cheese included is a fun addition, and the ingredients in the tacos tasted high-quality (lots of raves about the tortillas) but there was no kick to anything. Perhaps we needed to adjust expectations, but when I come to a Mexican place - even a chain - I expect a little more, you know? Service was very slow during an admittedly slow time of day and it took a long time to receive anything besides chips, but everything was fresh when it arrived. Portion sizes were perfectly acceptable for the price. Our visit was not memorable and I don't expect to be back, but we were glad to give it a try.

The service was outstanding and the ambiance clean and bright and just right for a peaceful breakfast. I ordered the Agua Fresca Jamaica (hibiscus) and it was a perfect thirst quencher. My husband ordered the zero proof lime margarita. I tasted it and it fooled me. I mean it tasted like an alcoholic drink. This was our first time experiencing this cuisine and we're so glad we did. We highly recommend this establishment for tasty food and refreshments.

Lunch deals are reasonably priced and allow for a good sampling of their food so the 3 of us tried the enchiladas, and steak tacos. Each also included a scoop of rice, and refried beans. My friends found the meals perfect, but I am used to spicier and deeper flavors so found everything a bit bland, but I enjoyed the freshness and family owned atmosphere, with a pleasant server, and with brightly painted walls and decorations over a chain for sure! Everything was clean too. I had asked for my enchiladas to be served xmas style with the green sauce and the red sauce since I like both, which is something I recommend you ask for as the option is not listed.

My family and I have been loyal, weekly patrons of Macayo's for 36 years-coming in 1 to 2 times…read moreevery single week. But since the change in ownership, the quality, service, and value have completely fallen off a cliff. Tonight was the absolute last straw. We always call ahead to ask if our favorite server, Espy, is working, because the customer service otherwise has become atrocious. Espy is fantastic and the only reason we still try to come here. Tonight, we called and asked if Espy was working, and the person on the phone said yes. We asked if she'd be there until close, and the manager, Jeff, responded with, "I hope not." We pulled up to the restaurant less than five minutes later and asked for her section, only for Jeff to tell us he had already cut her for the night, knowing full well we had just called and were coming specifically for her. Jeff the manager was extremely rude, unprofessional, and dismissive. We walked right out and took our business elsewhere tonight, and we feel terrible for Espy because she is genuinely amazing and deserves better. This interaction is just the final nail in the coffin after watching this restaurant go downhill: Zero Customer Support: We actually reached out directly through the customer service link on the Macayo's website back in July to share these exact concerns and issues, hoping someone cared. They never even acknowledged or responded to our email. Shrinkflation & Portions: Portion sizes have drastically shrunk. Far less meat in the burritos, barely any beans and rice, and they nickel-and-dime you over chips and salsa. Stingy Takeout Policy: On multiple takeout orders, they hand you a huge bag of chips with a tiny 4-oz cup of salsa and claim "new management policy" prevents them from giving any more. Gutted Deals: They eliminated the loyalty points program, cut kids' meal deals from two per adult to one, scrapped the summer "Kids Eat Free" daily deal, and neutered Happy Hour. Refusing Advertised Coupons: Just last month, we brought a party of 14 people and management refused to honor the active 20% off Mi Coupon that is still advertised on their own website and app. Between Jeff's atrocious management, total lack of response from corporate, the drop in food quality, and the complete elimination of customer appreciation, there is zero reason left for us to support Macayo's. After 36 years, our family and our wallets are officially done.
