While I would not consider the true authentic Mexican. It is Gringo Mexican and exactly what I grew up eating. So to me it was outstanding. Pleasantly impressed with this place! Crispy chips and good salsa, not too hot! But they do have a hot one if you ask. Chips and salsa kept full. Quick masked service. Pretty much made to order. Portion sizes good. Prices good but a bit high on a couple of items. We liked the burritos and enchiladas. Guacamole was great and the kids devoured the fried ice cream. The current prices are outrageously high for Mexican food. Went here a few years ago and it was busy, food and drinks were good. Upon a recent visit, wasn't busy for a Friday night, expensive and I asked ONLY for a bean and cheese burrito and got a meat burrito. The waitress acted like l wasn't telling the truth about the bean and cheese only request, disgruntled she took away my plate. Love Gringos! The tacos are great. My 8 year old granddaughter loves the hard shell tacos! And our waitress was so welcoming and kind to us. Food was great! It was quite in there so my granddaughter decided to entertain everyone with her ballet dancing. Too much fun! You've got to check it out. Oh and free chips and salsa when you sit down. Very disappointed in the food. Did not taste any seasoning in any of the food. Beans and Sancho were covered with a bland red sauce which ruined the taste of the beans. Why? Is it to cover up the bland food hiding underneath the sauce? On my way out of town I had to stop at a Taco Johns & Taco Bell to get something close to Mexican Food. Our son recommended this restaurant, and everyone but he was disappointed. My wife ordered three street tacos and the steak was over cooked and had bad flavor. She ate one taco, but did not want more. My mother also ordered the street tacos with steak and the steak was bad, so she kicked it off the tortilla and ate the onions and cheese with no meat. I ordered the super sancho and it was disgusting. The steak had bad flavor and was over cooked. The "cheese" inside the burrito was not a flavor I've ever had, the refried beans clearly came from a can and were gross, and the side of rice tasted like over cooked rice that was heavily seasoned with cumin. When the server asked if I liked it, I explained that I did not. She left without offering an alternative to anyone at the table, and charged us for everything. Firstly, let it be known, I am a Mexican food snob. My fiance is Mexican, he cooks a lot, we eat at his parents a lot, I have eaten the best food of my life in Mexico, etc... That said, Gringo's offers the "white-version of mexican food." Less flavor than the real deal, no spice, no kick, no soul. The salsa "bar" is a sad excuse for waiters/waitresses not wanting to take the extra ten steps to bring you chips and salsa. Said salsa is as bland as the food. Having just moved out to Fremont within the past two weeks, I think it says a lot that I ALREADY want to give Gringo's a great review. Boasting a huge menu that is sure to please all, Gringo's is definitely one of the better Fremont restaurants. The food is delicious, the restaurant is casual and family-friendly, and the service is prompt and attentive. The pork tamales are to-die-for, and the enchiladas are tasty as well. Even the rice and beans are especially good! Being a kind of picky eater, I appreciate that they leave all the garnishes (lettuce, tomato, sour cream, etc.) on the side. Now, the only reason I am giving them 4 stars is opposed to 5 is that I am a native Californian, and therefore used to absolutely outstanding, highly authentic Mexican food. I have just been spoiled in terms of Mexican food my whole life. Gringo's is slightly lacking in the authenticity department if you ask me (maybe it's the ground beef in the enchiladas?), but that's just me being nit-picky; it doesn't make the restaurant any less enjoyable. My now husband and I used to eat here ALL the time when we lived here in Fremont-- it was my absolute favorite place to eat. Chips and salsa were a go-to freebie followed by the chicken tortilla soup and finished with the white enchilada. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would without a doubt. Have enjoyed eating at Gringos for years, until my most recent visit about 1 week ago. I asked my waitress for extra sour cream in which she said no problem and promptly gave me a small bowl of extra sour cream. I didn't think anything of this until it was time to pay and was THEN told I had been changed $1.25 extra for about 2 tablespoons of extra sour cream. I understand there might be an extra charge at some restaurants for extra cheese, toppings, etc but isn't it common courtesy to polietly inform the customer when they ask for it? At any other restaurant I have been to, A. I have never been charged for extra sour cream or B. the server has informed me if there is an extra charge for something I am about to order. Will no longer be able to recommend this restaurant I once liked. No common courtesy, careless service, and simply trying to up the sale with hidden fees. read more

Gringo's is a decent family Mexican restaurant that boasts a large menu aimed to please just about anybody. It's definitely not authentic Mexican, so don't come in thinking you're going to get the best Mexican food of your life, and you'll leave far less disappointed. The salsa bar leaves something to be desired, even though you're able to fill up as much or as little as you'd like, as often as you'd like. The guacamole is more mushed avocado than it is guacamole, so I would not order again. My husband got a burrito and I got the beef chimichanga. Each were plenty in portion size, and will absolutely leave you feeling full when you walk out the door. The restaurant itself is pretty so-so, but very family friendly. read more

Ordered from here for the first time in many years, my s/o is leery about tex-mex anyways but I assured him it was good. I called in our order, we both got a pork chimichanga and a burrito for our daughter some chips, guac and cheese and 2 margarita (It was happy hour 1/2 off). First off the cost was OUTRAGEOUS $70! The food was decent but not $70 decent. Next i specifically said i wanted the guac and cheese for my chips, i got a portion cup size of both for 3 people to eat from, they charged full price for the margaritas and i had to sit and wait in the drive through with everyone ordering. i get the covid thing right now but what's the point of calling ahead when you have to sit and wait, i was just as close to her through the drive through as she would have been walking it to my car. I stopped here for dinner with my family and don't have many positive things to say. Both my mom and I ordered the bean enchilada assuming these would be safe for vegetarians. But when the enchiladas came out there was meat in the enchilada sauce. And when we asked the waitress about it she also informed us that the beans have bacon in them. And to make it worse, the waitress charged us for the two enchiladas that we couldn't even eat! And the rest of our party gave only mediocre reviews of their meals. I'm not sure if this is the best of what the town has to offer but I sure hope that there is a place with better food and service! read more

Where do I start? This was by far the worst "Mexican" food I have ever had. The salsa bar is a joke. We ordered cheese dip to start and it was like they melted a block of cheese with a lighter and threw rotel in it to make it fit the name of the restaurant. I ordered a chimichanga and it was terrible. It looked like sloppy joe meat stuffed inside of a fried tortilla. The rice tasted more like something I'd find in an Indian restaurant.
