I didn't bother looking at the menu to order which is my fault ik .. this time we ordered Fajitas Veracruz .. no beans extra rice .. I had marisco sauce which didn't set well so our fabulous Waitress had them redo my Fajitas without the sauce .. also ordered sopapilla & we both had TEA .. when the bill came like to fell off my chair $80.00.. Ordered food through Door Dash from this location and it was absolutely delicious. The taco was fresh and meaty, the enchiladas were cheesy and gooey, the green sauce is to die for and their chips are crisp and so good. I grew up in Houston and live in Reno, Nevada now so when I come back I have to have my Tex Mex fix and Gringos sure knows how to satisfy my craving. The food here is reliably fine, the staff and service - not so much. We were met by a hostess who was much more interested in performing chiropractic techniques than seating anyone. She popped her neck, did a few back twists and finally acknowledged the several groups of families stacked up in the entry. We were taken our seats where there were several water puddles on the bench. This was not residual dampness from wiping the seat, this was a spill. I asked if we could get it wiped down and the young waitress simply said that was from where the seat was cleaned. So I asked a second waitress if we could have the seat wiped. She returned with a large wad of paper towels and handed them to us. At that point we wanted to let the management know but after standing there for 5 minutes, no one could find one. A young lady came out and politely listened and apologized. I appreciate that but we did leave. As we left, the crowd in the foyer was even bigger but three three girls crowded around the podium were busy giggling and gossiping without even acknowledging the families waiting. For carryout you have to park in a Designated parking spot text your name in the parking spot number and they'll bring your food out. This was the first sign of the frustration to come. So i text and here comes the guy carrying the two bags for my order plus the drinks that he's spilling everywhere... We waited patiently at the front and there were three young lady's standing there and rolling their eyes, like they were getting ready for a fashion show. Furthermore we walked over to the bar and we got the same thing. No greetings, no nothing. Terrible service and we definitely are not be going back. What a shame! Don't waste your time walking in and be treated fairly unless you have fair skin. The African American manager that worked at the bar was rude as well. Have enjoyed this location many times. Went to have dinner with my family this evening on 08-08-22 At 7pm was seated promptly and received our chips and salsa before we took our seats. That's when the experience went down hill. We sat there for 15 minutes and was not approached by anyone. We were however noticed by several other wait staff but no one checked on us or contacted our assigned waiter. I then went to the hostess stand and asked for a manager which she located and advised her of the situation. Unfortunately as we observed this happening we were still not approached. So we decided to leave but not before we did speak privately with the manager who was extremely apologetic and offered to sit us with a different waiter. We chose not to stay and enjoyed our family time at another restaurant. read more

If you haven't had the Bomba Burger, you have to try it. The Carne Guisada is not that great, and can be better. You can't beat the fajitas. They are really good and well seasoned. The chips and salsa lacks to be desired, and sometimes a certain waiter can be rude. They need to work on the customer service a bit, but overall it's worth the trip. read more

I live out of state now but was looking forward to visiting this popular upscale Mexican restaurant during my visit this week. Since my last visit it has undergone a major reconstruction and the atmosphere (which was always nice) has been taken up a notch. Classy but not intimidating. The three of us went to the right after entering and sat in the hopping area around the bar. I was worried the noise level would be too much for my two elderly companions but was pleased that once we settled into the booth we were able to carry on a conversation without yelling. Mikela (?) was our waitress and she was pleasant, patient, and helpful. I had a "presidente'" margarita (with a shot of Gran Marnier on top); my friends has sodas. I ordered the Taqueria Chalupas and my guests ordered the Quesadillas (outstanding!) and the Summer Special. I hadn't expected to eat much but the Chalupas were first-rate. One of my guests commented that the salsa was the best (and she goes to MANY Mexican restaurants); in fact, she selected this location because they always have the best chips and salsa. My family frequents this place due to our love of TexMex. There is rarely a wait, and even if there is, it is usually not very long because there is so much seating. They have many large booths that can fit up to 6 (smaller) people, but 4-5 people comfortably. The bathrooms are always clean and the service I have had from the waiters has been great for the most part. Sometimes it has taken quite long for the food to come out, but usually just a reasonable amount of time. My family always shares the chicken and beef fajitas. My mom always asks them to slice the chicken thin and they do not hesitate to fulfill that request. They have homemade corn tortillas that are my favorite in the entire Houston area. Red and green salsa/chips are served before the meal. The green salsa has a sour cream base and is super addicting. The red salsa has thay roasted kind of flavor. My family always fills up on chips and salsa because they are so tasty. There is a free ice cream machine on the way out of the restaurant. There is a huge parking lot, so parking has never been an issue. My main complaint is the very loud and sometimes annoying music they play in the restaurant over the already usually loud crowds here. Sometimes it is hard to hear because of all the noise at this restaurant. Also, certain areas of the restaurant are freezing cold, so bring a jacket if that is an issue for you like it is for me!! Pretty good. I got the December special of enchiladas. They were pretty good and filling for 10$. My boyfriend got a burrito and he said he liked it. When we first walked in we were greeted promptly and seated. Our server was super nice and fast! Which is was we needed because my fiancée had to go to work shortly after. They give you a smooth guacamole sauce? And a salsa with chips. Both sauces tasted really good to me. Service was fast and good. He offered a to go box before I even had to ask and brought me a proper container for my beans which is nice and rare in my opinion so I appreciate it when it happens. I go to the same Gringo's over and over and order the same thing. Bean and cheese nachos. Not on the menu. Simple. Chips. Beans. Grated orange cheddar type cheese. Same cheese they put inside the cheese enchiladas, or seems the same. To make it easy, I take a picture. Normally the nachos here have white cheese. I can't taste it. When I first ordered it here at this location, the waitress confirmed i did NOT want queso on the beans. I wanted grated orange cheese like they put in and on other items. I explained it to the waiter and he really acted like he didn't care. As he walked away I said "Not queso, but real shredded orange cheese like the picture. He came back and asked for my phone to take to the kitchen. Sure. he came back and said "There is still a little white cheese in our shredded cheese. I look at my picture and say "Ok". He brings out the nachos and the cheese is mostly all white. I go get Elliott the manager. he comes to the table and i explain the entire scenario. He looks at the picture and tells me this is queso and not shredded orange cheese on my nachos in the picture. Well, he's been there a week and he's basically telling me numerous wait staff have lied to me about what they are putting on my food. Queso does not have the same consistency to me as shredded real cheese. Queso has not come out of an oven stringy like real cheddar cheese, which is what happens when I normally eat bean and cheese nachos at Gringo's. Elliott proceeds to try and sell me that I have been mis-informed all these years of having bean and cheese nachos. And what I have been eating is queso on top of beans and not shredded cheese as my mouth says has been on the nachos. Even the cook could not make the nachos as the ones in the photo. Elliott informs me that if I want bean and cheese nachos from here out they will either have the white cheese or queso on them. Elliott asked if he could take them back and make them with queso. heck no you can't because i wasn't eating them before with queso. So that is when I told Elliott I will go ahead and eat this product put before me even though it is not what I ordered. I will pay full price for the meal. And I will get up and never set foot in that restaurant again. After being misled for years what was on my bean nachos and to be told white cheese is what I get unless i want queso. No buddy, how about you lose a customer and maybe a few more when they read my review. If you have poor food here too, try El Toro. They won't mislead you about what you are eating. I'm sure many people say they won't come back. But they do. I don't need your typical corporate treatment to get good food. You lost grasp of your "local" charm and became too high production. You lost focus on customers and product. Now it's canned and less fresh. Can't even get shredded cheddar cheese. Only blanco chedder. What true Tex Mex tells you they have no shredded cheddar? Boyfriend and I wanted Tex-Mex tonight so we decided to stop here since we were already on that side of town. First things first, it's been awhile since I've been to this location so I didn't know it was renovated. It looks great! They have some very large, spacious booths. We were seated immediately. No wait, which was nice. Score! We usually share either fajitas or a combination platter since I'm on a diet and honestly we can never finish a whole entree on our own. Of course that might be because we get full from their yummy chips and sauce! We ordered the Rosita plate which included a bean chalupa, guacamole, 2 cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. Plenty to share. Our hot plate came out before our cold plate which was odd since the cold plate was only a chalupa and a scoop of guac. No biggie though. I mentioned it to the server that brought out our food and she quickly returned with it and an apology. That was nice. But no worries. Mistakes happen. The cheese enchiladas were VERY cheesy. And I'm one of those people who believe there's no such thing as too much cheese! But for some reason, I prefer enchilada sauce or gravy on my cheese enchiladas to balance out the cheese. Theirs had queso which is not a bad thing. It's just a preference. Weird, I know. Anyway, the enchiladas were very good! I put some red sauce on them and they were even better! I love their rice and beans too. And both their red and green sauces. He also wanted a tamale added to our platter. He seemed to enjoy it A LOT. My Mexican was very happy. :) The best part of the meal was the price. My boyfriend is an Army combat veteran. We asked if they give military discounts and they most certainly do! It was 50% off!! Our dinner was only $6.75!! And we BOTH were full and very satisfied! Our server was friendly too. His name was Luis. I think he said he was new but he did a great job.
