Since moving from Seabrook four years ago, we haven't been back to El Toro. I didn't realize how much we missed it! We went for lunch, and both had the same thing-the numbero uno lunch special. I thought all Tex-Mex was the same... yummy and hard to mess up. This place will ruin you on all other Tex Mex though! The steak fajitas are impossibly delicious. Super tender, real steak (not skirt steak) with flavor just out of this world. I've never had fajita meat like this before! The cheese enchiladas were absolutely perfect with a hearty portion of blended cheeses inside. The rice!!! It is perfectly dry, not al dente, not mushy, not sticky... just PERFECT. The sauces they give you are drinkable. The red has a roasted pepper flavor and not overly cilantro'd, the green is a guacamole cream sauce, both are mild which my lightweight palate appreciates. The ice cream at the end is the perfect desert. The sweet tea is exactly how it should be, and service was the best. Borracho beans side $9.98 and Fries side $3.59 Fries came out after everyone in the party of 8 was already served. Small serving swished around on very small plate. lukewarm. okay, but how can you get fries wrong? Told borracho beans had to be made. Most people were almost done with the meal when I was once again told by the blue haired waitress, who seemed to be spending most of her time at boyfriend's table, the beans still have to be made. Asked the manager to cancel the beans and immediately they were brought out. Blue haired waitress said, "be very careful as they are hot!" They were not hot! Not even a hot bowl. The borracho beans were very cold and tasted horrible. Could have had a full menu meal for what it cost to be humiliated. I came here for the good reviews and I'm confused as to why or who is leaving them. Off from the start when we ordered our drinks the cups were dirty and all our drinks/cups had a wet dog smell just nasty. The silverware was dirty too. Cool I came here for food so I still gave it a shot. The chips and salsa yeah it's a no for me tasted like the Tostitos sauce from Walmart. I ordered beef and chicken fajitas and botana party platter... we only ate the chicken fajitas from the plate the beans and rice. Everything from this place is frozen like the Walmart taquitos/southwest chicken eggrolls and they just deep fry them. This was a big let down because we didn't like anything. I would say this el toro is just the same as the el toros in baytown. Delicious food for a moderate price and definitely check out the TRES in the lunch menu. I enjoyed my time and the meal was shared between me and my son and I am FULL. Their green salsa was on point and I would be remiss if I didn't mention the cleanliness of the bathroom. My service was fairly quick in and out within 40 minutes!! However good my experience was I do want to mention the manager did not come to my table to ask if my food was good, but he did visit others. read more

I think El Toro is a fine example of the "Tex" part of Mexican cuisine. We went there one evening when in town visiting family because our nephew really wanted to go. I can see why, as there were many dishes appealing to a teen, the servings are generous, and they have free unlimited vanilla soft serve ice cream for guests. The restaurant itself is what you'd expect from a mass appeal Tex-Mex place, lots of wood and white, decorated with paintings of cactus and sombreros. It's very clean, comfortable for a group, and well lit. Food offerings are again what you'd expect - tacos, enchiladas, burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, etc. The Rev got the chimichanga, I had fajitas, the teens had shrimp tacos, seafood enchiladas, beef tacos and beans. Everything was decent, the enchiladas were a little heavy on the cheese and light on the seafood but that was fine. Daniel, our sever, was excellent, really above the standard. He was friendly, helpful, had great timing and was clearly keeping a good eye on all his tables as water glasses remained filled, dishes both arrived and were cleared at the right times, and he handled teenage slightly obnoxious behavior like a pro. Easy parking in their huge lot, even for people with larger SUVs and trucks there's no sweat getting a spot there that you can easily get in and out of. There is parking in the front of location but it is hard to get in during dinner when it's crowded although to the right there was additional parking. I chose a Laredo Dinner($14.95)Four fajita nachos, a chicken flauta, one beef and one cheese enchilada topped with chilli gravy. Served with guacamole, sour cream, jalapeños and a cup of chile con queso I opted to have shredded cheese on everything instead of queso it was plenty of food and I actually couldn't finish it was good. Whenever I go to La Porte for a visit I have to stop to The Bull! El Toro is a La Porte staple. The Ybarra family has been serving fresh tex-mex here for years and we totally appreciate it. Great place to meet friends,family or have a business lunch for those area contractors. Service is A1 always. I had the pleasure of Alyssa being my server last visit and actually I sat in her station on another visit she is very attentive and pleasant. Pozole is what I eat on a weekend trips but I have never had a bad anything at El Toro. All the food is of course fresh and always delicious with great portion sizes. But by the time they where done with me that one taco was 17.98 because of the little side of queso and sour cream pico. So i asked for the manager on duty.he could have fixed it tgen and there. But continued to tell me they used grade A meat to make that one taco and that was what he was charging me.then he comes back a few minutes later and offers a 10 dollar coupon for next time.im really thinking and you think im gonna come back for a 17.98 beef taco ever agian . This was an emergency recovery choice from our intended Cuban restaurant in Baytown who said they were too busy to serve us, their only customers. There were four of us. The service was excellent and we all enjoyed our Tex-Mex meals. My wife had the Pollo Con Queso plate. One of our friends had the Tacos El Carbon & the other had Baja Tacos. As is traditional for me at a new Mexican restaurant, I ordered a Chimichanga. The one on the menu was chicken but I asked and they made it ground beef. I was apprehensive because twice at other restaurants I've asked they modify their Chimichanga and both turned out bad. Not this time - it was good. The restaurant itself is in a cute part of town and was easy to find. There wasn't a lot of parking out front and I can imagine that if it gets busy in the evenings it would be difficult to park/get into the parking lot. Me and my travel partner both got the fish tacos, rice & beans with a queso appetizer. The queso and chips (which tasted homemade) were easily the best part of the meal. The fish tacos lacked any flavor and desperately needed seasoning, the refried beans weren't completely cooked (I had some undercooked beans), the rice was OK. I will say that getting fish tacos at a mexican restaurant was probably not the best move, I'm sure their other entrees are much tastier & the service was good. read more

My spouse and I ordered takeout on a Weekday night. I ordered chicken tacos al carbon, spouse ordered some combo plate. Everything was very good, but hubby said his food was overly salty. I didn't think so, and I'm not a big salt consumer. Maybe it was just his meal. They gave us plenty of chips and salsa, which was great. The staff was very attentive and friendly when we picked up our order. We've lived in La Porte for 28 years, and this was our first visit. I came here years ago and it was delicious but today 7/31/23 for lunch ot sucked! The service was good. The food came out luke warm, the chicken fajita was tasteless. The rice was salty. You know ive been coming to this place for years (look at the pic they have been open forever) and i still dont know why. i think i come here so much its because it is so convenient, quick and i know what to expect. The food is your average tex mex its not too good at all and the drinks could be stronger. We always have pretty bad, unfriendly service. The green sauce tastes chalky at times if that even makes since and most the chicken i have had has a lot of gristle/fat. There are way better places out there - if you can, skip this one. *EDITED* 9/26/07 you know what they are remodeling and its looking a little better. On the way home from the beach I stopped to dine with some of my cousins that I haven't seen in about 10 years! They picked this restaurant because they said it was amazing. I wasn't expecting much being that it is in a small town and there isn't a variety of restaurants so, sometimes that skews people's judgment on amazing! They opened the doors a couple minutes early which was nice and sat us right away. We were the first one's there but, the place really filled up about 30 minutes later. I ordered an iced tea (note they do not have sweet tea)! We ordered the queso as an appetizer and I ordered the chicken fajita tacos as my entrée. Their verde salsa was delicious and the red salsa was just ok in my opinion. The queso had a good creamy consistency but, I wish it would have been thicker. Overall though I was happy with the flavor and the fresh chips! The server was very attentive and friendly. They brought out my chicken fajita tacos which was also served with Mexican rice, refried beans, beans that were in a broth of some sort in a bowl, lettuce, pico de gallo and guacamole. The tacos looked sad on the plate but when I bit into them the flavors were impressive from the chicken. It was truly authentic Mexican spices and flavoring. The Mexican rice was tender and not over done which is a normal complaint I usually have about Mexican rice. The refried beans were also very authentic and you could tell they put a lot of time into making them correctly. The beans that were in a broth in the bowl didn't really strike my fancy but, I am unsure how they normally taste since this is the first time that I have encountered them. The pico de gallo and the lettuce were both really fresh and the guacamole was perfection. They boxed up our leftovers for us and believe me the portions are huge so, I am sure everyone takes home leftovers from here! I thought it was nice that she asked if we wanted the check divided or all of it on one check because usually they just deliver one check and make you ask. The whole dining experience was really pleasant and being from Austin where parking is a huge issue; it was nice to see that they had their own private lot. The downtown area where this restaurant is is very charming and is dotted with a bunch of mom and pop shops and antique stores. read more
