This place has been completely ruined by the new ownership. I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years, and I barely recognized it this visit--in the worst way possible. The food was shockingly bad, careless, and nowhere near the quality this restaurant once had. Prices have exploded, with margaritas I've ordered for years suddenly costing up to $15 more per drink, which is insulting given how far the quality has dropped. Management is a disaster--disorganized, unprofessional, and clearly unconcerned with customer experience. What used to be a reliable, family-friendly restaurant is now an overpriced, poorly run shell of its former self. Long-time customers are being driven away, and I won't be back. Save your money and your time. That's why theyre parking lot is empty all the time. read more

I'm not sure why I haven't previously posted a review about this place, but better late than never. Tortilla's is an excellent 'old school' Tex-Mex joint. First, the restaurant is nothing fancy. But it's clean and large enough that wait times have never been a thing for me. They're also good at accomodating groups (I attended an office party here a few years ago, and it went off without a hitch). Service on every visit here has been very good. To the food... The salsa here is somewhat mild, and it is served cold (a must for me). If you need some bite, ask for the stuff from the kitchen. It's quite spicy and delicious ... better than most restaurant salsas around here. Enchiladas and tamales here are just what one hopes for -- gooey cheesiness with an old-school' cholesterol-raising 'gravy.' Outstanding. Rice is par for the course, and the charro beans are made with TLC. Bottom line: Everything is served hot and fresh, and they put some effort into their recipes. My plate looked like a watery mess, my husband ordered empanadas that were definitely NOT empanadas. The menu is misleading. The service was pretty good though. I have nothing but the best comments for this business. The food is amazing! It's not like some other tex-mex restaurants; this restaurant gives the taste of more of an authentic style and flavor. Also, I can appreciate a hard working, family owned, local business. The customer service is outstanding! We originally planned to go to another nearby restaurant and was over an hour wait so we just went down road and tried out Tortilla's not really sure what to expect. WOW.. AMAZING! Food , service , atmosphere, Margaritas were all Superb ! The staff so friendly and accommodating. My husband and I split fajitas were so good and everyone in our large party enjoyed the food and service . Due to covid we had to split up our tables but was fine we had kids at one tables adults next to them and all got to visit and celebrate my dads birthday. I think the owners heard Jessica's recommendation b/c they remodeled!! The entrance and waiting area are much larger now. The bar area is to the left and is separated from the main dining area so I'm sure that helps with the noise level. My familia headed here at a baseball game at 2pm on Saturday. Since we had 10, we expected a wait but were seated immediately and in a great big booth with plenty of room. (Pet peeve #1- bunch of people being seated at small table and the hostess just squeezing everybody in. I hate that!) Anyways, we had plenty of room and our drink orders were taken right away. Our waitress was a little overwhelmed, or just had a really bad memory b/c she was short a couple drinks but she made up for it quickly. The chips came in great big baskets and the green sauce is yummy! And the food was really really good! My chicken San Lucas was juicy grilled chicken breast topped with queso, shrimp and crab meat. Delish! And the charro bean soup that came with it was the best I've had in a loooonnnng time. My dads chicken plate (I forget the name) had a really thick juicy chicken breast as well. So big that he couldn't even finish it. And that's a LOT if you knew my dad lol The plates are really inexpensive, especially considering the portion size! read more

My food was good. BUT! I ordered chicken fajitas with Pico, bell peppers and onions for my husband along with double rice. He received 2 things of rice along with a tiny amount of chicken (maybe 1/2 a small breast) on top of a TON of onions. No Pico no bell pepper NO tortillas!!!!!! This is the first time we have ordered from them and they have COMPLETELY forgot things while also giving hardly any meat. We usually order from them because I like their sauce that comes with the chips. However after this last time I don't think we will be ordering from them ever again. They charge all this money for fajitas and then don't give you what you ordered along with one of the main parts in making a fajita which is the TORTILLAS! read more

Always good food , always good service !!! This is a local favorite of mine and my friends and family. The owners are class act! They take care of their workers and they take care of their guests ! Ya always fee at home when you are there! Come here and enjoy the drinks (happy hour!!) tortilla soup is to die for! I have not been disappointed with any of their dishes ! My favorite would be the tamales ! YUMM and don't for get the ice cream on the way out ! I'll give this Mexican restaurant a 4/5. While the food and prices are reasonable, my fajitas came out with a surprise. I ordered the chicken fajitas under the "chino special" expecting to get chicken, grilled onions and shrimp. To my surprise, the fajita chicken and onions were smothered in melted white cheese, bacon bits, mushrooms, and the shrimp was like popcorn shrimp grilled? It made no sense whatsoever but I wasn't complaining. It was delicious and affordable! However, the drinks were a little expensive for instance 2.50 for a fountain drink is a little much. The waiter was nice and spoke good English, even though you could tell his first language was Spanish. I was able to actually use some of my Spanish with him and it was a sweet moment. I highly recommend this place for the delicious dips and TORTILLAS. Although, I can't really speak for the corn tortillas considering I only ate flour with my fajitas. read more

Went there last night (9/27/17). After reading the reviews and the boy friend always wanting Mexican food, we decided to give this place a try. The waiter (forgot want the man'a name was) was super sweet! He smiled and gave us a couple laughs! He's the reason I gave this place the 2 extra stars. This place was HUGE inside! So many nooks and crannies - plenty of space! But the food SUCKED! I ordered the 3 chicken enchiladas in gravy... the tortillas were hard as a rock, the rice was crunchy, the chicken was dry and flavorless, and the gravy sauce was weird. I would NOT recommend the enchiladas! The boyfriend had the fajita nachos (that I ended up switching with him because my meal was disgusting) and they weren't that bad. Other than the meal not having enough cheese and having too much beans, they were actually pretty good. Sorry no pictures, I was so disappointed with my food that I just wanted to leave! It looked like the place was a great place to possibly watch a fight and have some margaritas.... I'll just never find out! My friends and I usually come here after a long day of work and have some good and really cheap happy hour margaritas and beers..We usually sit in the bar area, order some appetizers and watch the games on the big screen tvs. Big local Favorite - it has almost become more of a sports bar that happens to have good mexican food..Dont expect to come here for a nice relaxing or even romantic dinner because it usually gets pretty loud (especially by the bar) but on the +side that makes for kid friendly! The place could use some minor remodeling on the interior and the smoking section is right by the entrance so it lingers throughout the restaurant. The food is pretty good- meaning i have never been unsatisfied with the quality of what i ordered and the prices are VERY reasonable. Oh yeah and ya cant forget the green sauce-it is delish..Nothing like a dos equis with some chips and salsa! read more

My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant/bar. We pass by it all the time on Spencer Hwy. We opted to come here because the competition across the street was too packed and I know their bar is small and compact. We pull up and there is parking so I am like yes! We sit at the bar and just wanna relax. I order a Modelo especial w lime and my wife orders a frozen margarita. They are both ice cold the way we like em. I request some chips and salsa and the red is avg but the green one is excellent. I know I am a bit hungry so I order the mix fajitas for 1 and they don't disappoint. The chicken has a nice chargrill flavor to it and the beef fajitas are relatively tender. It does come with rice,beans,pico,sour cream and guacamole. I noticed the beans had an overpowering cumin flavor to it though. The frijoles a la charra were great and don't let me forget the flour tortillas were fresh and delicious. Tortillas is a pretty decent mexican restaurant. The prices are fair and the margaritas are pretty good as well. The servers are nice and attentive and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall i think this restaurant is good. If you live in or are in the Deer Park , La Porte area this is probably the closest thing to authentic mexican (kind of) food you'll find. Its definitely worth a try if you live in the area or happen to be in the area. Another advantage of this place is that it doesnt get a packed as the other tex mex restaurants in the area. read more

The worst meal I believe I have ever had. My wife says the same thing. I remember eating here a decade ago when the food was good. Just got home and feel horrible. My wife had Gabby's Cold Plate and she could not eat it. The cheese sauce on the chalupa was nasty, I tasted it, and the taco meat on her taco had red parts that were not fully cooked. I ordered a the steak and shrimp. I ordered my ribeye medium rare, it was cooked medium, but can deal with that. What was truly horrible was that every thing tasted the same, like a dirty grill...even the rice and shrimp! The chair beans were decent, but the meal was horrible. Bland food, bad margaritas...this place seems to be in decline. Tortillas used to be one of our favorite local spots for frozen margaritas and tex mex, I wish I could say the same today, but in good faith and for your sake I simply can not. Our recent visit had everyone reaching for the salt shaker and the salsa bowl just to add a bit of flavor to our meals, and the frozen margaritas tasted of little more than cheap margarita mix consisting of artificial lemon/lime flavor. There is no shortage of decent tex mex in the area...competition will either force Tortillas to improve or close their doors for good. read more

Them hot wings though! I've had a lot of dishes there as we live close and it's very convenient to get in and out of without waiting but their hot wings are awesome. The fajitas are decent and it's been hit and miss on enchiladas. The queso is very similar to Casa Ole which I love.
