This place is fantastic. On 1st visit...after waiting for 6 weeks at a big box store to re-tip a driver shaft AJ was able to get it done in a day. I also inquired about some things going on with my putter and he saw some issues with the loft and the grip being off-center. He was able to make adjustments on the spot. On my 2nd visit, I took a putter to get extended for arm-lock putting. While asking about that I asked about some issues I was having hooking the ball due to my lies maybe being off. After discussion, we found that most of the clubs were made wrong from the TaylorMade factory being 1.5 inches too long. He was able to adjust the putter and all my irons in a few hours. I'd give more stars if it would let me. After a disappointing "fitting" at another club store, I went to see AJ at Grip It Golf. AJ was amazing. "No appointment necessary, just stop by and I'll get you sorted out." When I got there he stopped what he was doing and started getting me fitted. He didn't put me in front of a screen with a launch monitor, just watched me swing my 7 iron and said "your clubs are too short". Took some measurements, and grabbed a different club for me to test. Right away I could feel the difference. A few more tests and he had my lie angle, shaft stiffness and weight figured out. He's not a Ping dealer and I'd had my mind set on the G425, so he was going to give me my measurements to take back the other store to make a purchase. However, he had a set of 2019 P790s still in plastic but with the wrong shafts and grips. He let me test a single club in that model that was close to my specs and it felt amazing. "I can get those set up with the right shafts, grips, length and lie for you no problem! probably have them ready by the end of the week." he said. No pressure, just enthusiasm. I didn't have to think long "Let's do it!" was my response. I noted in passing that I was going to be taking Thursday off to play, and he said, "oh, I'll get these ready for you by Wednesday night then! I got the call at about 10:30am Tuesday that they were ready to come get. less than 24 hours after I'd made the purchase. When I talked to him on speaker even my wife said it was evident that he was at least as excited as I was for me to get out and play with my new clubs. I can't recommend AJ any higher. Awesome service, awesome store, awesome guy. I will be going back to AJ as my first stop for anything club related from now on. read more

Starting to get back into the game after years off. Realized my putters grip was worn out so I stopped in. Great selection great service and I had a new grip on the putter in 10 to 15 minutes. This means a lot, as hitting this little white ball is hard enough as it is with the wrong clubs. I purchased some second hand golf clubs, received fitting and tips that I use religiously to help improve my game. AJ is a really cool guy to talk to as well, knowing the hardships of learning, and giving helpful tips without making one feel belittled. Al knows exactly what he's doing... I came in there about a month ago. I ended up getting a set of Callaway Razr X irons from Al for a VERY good price. They were not only in great condition, but fitted for me. It was so good I brought my Mizuno blades in to get the lie angle adjusted for me too. Since then I've literally seen my practices at the range get better. Giving yourself every chance to make a good strike on the ball is a big key to the game and there's probably no better fitter around. BTW, I've only been playing for 3 months at the time of this review and have gone out to a few courses... even in the sludge and loving it. Having to focus less on the strike and more on the lie gives me a lot more confidence with the game. If you haven't got fitted you gotta do it through Al. read more

I had just picked up a new set of irons from a retail shop and wanted to put them in play for a moderate money game that I had scheduled for a Wednesday. Before doing so I knew I had to dial them in for competition so was looking for a golf shop close to Vallejo that could adjust the lies for my swing. I came across Grip it and Rip it and arrived early in the morning before my game where I met AJ who agreed to work with me and make the adjustments before my 11 am tee time. AJ was outstanding and a true professional who took the time to get each club fitted to my swing and gave me the confidence that I had the right set up before my round. Not only did he adjust the lies he also gave me a nice set up tip for my set that was a good mantra for my day on the course "bend those knees when you are playing shorter shafts". I was very impressed with the shop and really enjoyed working with AJ. I have been to Keplers in Walnut Creek a number of times in the past but these guys are superior and because of their size are able to give you personalized attention that makes the drive to Pinole totally worthwhile. AJ was amazing to work with. I stopped in there because it was the closest shop to my house with the idea of stopping at a couple more afterwards. The owner of this place is an amazing individual. I walked in the other day needing some fitting advice. He took a couple measurements and checked the lie on the clubs i have been playing with. They were way off for my height. He made some "huge" adjustments to my irons. The next day i took them out for a trial run. Come to find out i was hitting the ball better than i ever have in 30 years of golfing. Note, that i play at a 5 handicapp. So i can play a little bit. But this "huge move" was amazing. Never have i hit balls this good. His advice was right on point. The " huge move" on the irons worked incredibly. I never would have known my clubs were off if i didnt stop in and see this guy. AJ and Mike are amazing!!!! I was looking for Winn grips on eBay and found some really great prices, then saw grip it and rip it on San Pablo street while eating breakfast. I thought I should stroll in and see what they offered. Come to find out the grips were exactly the same price and LOCAL! While talking to AJ, he fitted my hands and got me the right size grips I needed. I would have never got that thru eBay. A few weeks later I had been tweaking my golf swing and hit a huge slump. I was hitting everything off the toe, my grip got strong, and I was topping everything. I had lost my confidence. So after blowing thru the grip on my 6 iron, I went to get it re gripped. While there, AJ recommended a fitting. The first club free of charge. I thought why not? He put his tape on the sole of my club, I took 2 swings, handed the club to him, and right then he told me exactly the types of shots I was hitting and explained why. At that point I was sold. Do um all! After getting my 6 iron regripped, my buddies 7 head put back on the shaft, and getting all my clubs fitted, I walked out paying only 100 bucks. If that's not a deal, there isn't one! They were able to work with me to re-extend my Scotty Cameron putter. I had called them for a re-shaft, but after explaining my situation, they recommended I just get it reed tended to fix the swing weight. Glad I chatted with them so as to save myself some cash. Great fast service. Had a wide variety of grips and a decent selection of used Scotty Camerons. Found the right grip for me and was in and out quickly. I went into Grip it Golf because of the good reviews. They are well deserved. AJ was knowledgeable and fit my irons for me. He also helped me understand my putter length and gave me some tips. There was a good selection of new and used clubs as well and I was able to find the clubs I needed to finish my bag (a 3 hybrid and a 60° lob wedge). The store and the staffs there are really awesome!!! I have no experience of golfing at all. But I'd like to study and plan golf for fun and business. Then I found them on Yelp and made a reservation for Saturday morning. When I came there, they measured my size and swing habit with detailed explanation and find the perfect pre-owned sets for me. They also cut the size for me with new covers as I am not very tall. When I am waiting; their experienced golfer showed me how to play. And it really helps and gives me tons of fun! Great conversations, stories and skills leaned during the period with them, what a passionate and knowledgeable team! I am very lucky to start from this place to get me ready for coming lessons and playing! After about 1 hour, i walked out with personalized club and all great things! This is the best golf shop ever. They really want to help you improve your game. This is the ONLY place I will be going for advice or to have my clubs worked on. I have told everyone that I golf with about this shop. I just bought a slightly used 1W and AJ set it up for me after asking me a few questions, I went to the driving range after and he had taken the slice I had almost out of my drive plus gave me about 20 more yards. Ive been playing golf (badly) for years. I cant hit a driver, and since shoulder surgery, have lost yardage and flexibility, adding to my poor play... I went in to Grip It and Rip it on the off chance that they could maybe show me how to hit a driver without a banana slice, maybe waste some money on another club I don't need and cant hit. Alan took one look at my bag and my swing, and did me wonders. He explained that, with my lower swing speed I might benefit more from graphite shafts, rather than steel like I had, but after getting warm, he said I could actually stick with the steel if I was okay with them. Then, EYEBALLING me, he could tell my arms were longer than average and when he checked, he was spot on - my clubs needed the lie custom fit to me. He suggested all I really needed was to regrip my set and adjust the lie - he could do all the work for under $175. That's like the price of a single nice club or putter. So why not? That, and he gave me some great advice on ball placement when hitting my driver. BEST DAMN MONEY I EVER SPENT!!! Went out the next day and stunned my friends and myself at how much my game improved! I birdied a par 4 from 50 yards out with my 56* wedge, and the rest of my game was way improved. I even used my driver the entire game! I haven't hit that thing in two + years...
