Very very sad GR Noir is closing at the end of this month. Sad when business that opened up in the pandemic don't make it... I first learned about GR Noir after a Yelp elite event. This black and women owned business is such a fun concept of mixing music and wine. But the prices are a bit steep. I see why some folks would be turned off by a $15 cover plus paying for drinks/food. I personally didn't mind paying because I knew who my money was supporting. I know the cover goes to the artists. And honestly the food was scrumptious, and well balanced.... I got the bruschetta and my boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. The wine selection was very fun and was hard to pick. We each got a flight so we could try a bit of everything. The staff were friendly too.... There are a few more chances to dine in and listen to music here, so check their socials and pop in for a last min valentines date or even a solo date!

I enjoyed every moment of my experience at GRNoir. This is a Black family owned Wine and Jazz. The one of the owners is also a sommelier and the recommendations they made was bussin'. I came for my bday with my family. We got there a little after they opened so we had the pick of tables, which was awesome! The décor was so nice, the seating was really comfortable and the flow of the place keep the feel of it not being crowded while it filled up with patrons. If you're planning to go during the evening, book a reservation because once the doors open it packs out quickly. They offered a fruit board and a meat board in a couple of sizes and they offer wine flights if you want to try a few. Everything about this spot gives my life and I will always come here when I'm in town.

I'm so happy we finally made it to GRNoir! It's been on my radar since they opened, but I just never had a chance to stop by. We arrived about an hour before they closed recently and were seated right away in a cozy corner. The space is classy and cute, with great lighting and soft seating. I was happy to see they had a couple non-alcoholic wines as I wasn't drinking that day. The one I ordered was tasty and a bit bubbly - I really liked it! There was a free jam session going on when we were there, which was really fun. They had a whole bunch of musicians rotating in and out for each song, including a trombonist, drummer, bass player, and pianist. It was a laid back vibe and we really enjoyed the music. As people started to clear out a bit, we were able to move to the bar. They serve some small plates but we had just eaten dinner. The guy behind the bar I think was the owner and he was really friendly and kind. I'm looking forward to coming back again hopefully soon!

Never tipped below 20% until today The live music was phenomenal, food was great, service was terrible. We made a reservation but they never saved our seat so we had to sit at the bar, we sat and nobody took our order for 20 minutes and once they did they made us feel like the didn't have time for us. Once we finished our first round our glasses sat empty for another 45 minutes before we were asked if we wanted another round. They also add a cover that was not mentioned online or to us when we arrived which felt like a scam. My recommendation: drink ahead of time and just enjoy the music! Also food was super tiny portions.

A friend and I decided to get together and try GRNoir. We made reservations well in advance for their live music and was probably about a month out based on our availability. When I arrived, it was pretty relaxed and the music was just getting set up. We were promptly seated and got a couple spots at the bar, and they were not taking any walk ins that night. The atmosphere was great but be warned, it's a bit loud with the live music. There were a couple technical difficulties and the mics and speakers would screech like crazy, but the band was great! At times, I felt like I was yelling over the music or my friend was because of the music, so if you want to hear your party, sit further away from the musicians or know to speak up. They could do a little better with some acoustics to damper a little bit but overall, it didn't bother me. I ordered the rosé flight and it pretty decent. I'm just not a huge rosé fan which is why I opted for the flight to try. My favorite was the second one, but probably couldn't drink more than a glass. The bartender and staff were extremely attentive and friendly and we had a good time. A little surprised at the $10 live jazz fee per person but maybe that was listed on the reservation online and I didn't see it. We were also told that our 90 minutes were coming to a close by them dropping a sign down to subtly let us know we needed to cash out. I'd consider coming here again for after dinner drinks! But the food menu is limited, so probably nothing other than wine and music. Just not sure I would think to make a reservation unless it's for a jazz night.

I had really high expectations coming here. We had already eaten, so we didn't order food. The food they I saw near us looked okay, but nothing extravagant. The jazz was nice - it really creates a vibe. The only seating that was available when we got there, was at the bar. Honestly, if it's a jazz night and you are trying to focus on that, I would suggest not sitting at the bar. It was very "busy" and distracting sitting there - just not as enjoyable. The service was pretty good. It was packed that night, so I understand a longer wait time to order and get drinks. The menu was not that easy to navigate, honestly. But the wines that we had were okay. Their wine pouring system is neat - I've never seen that before. This seemed to be a Black-owned business, with only Black staff. I probably won't go back, since there are multiple wine bars in town.

I really wanted to like GR Noir, but it did miss the mark for me. During the daylight, the atmosphere was missing something, but I think after dark on a night where they have live jazz music and are open to capacity it might be better! My fiancé and I had a happy hour date here, so we got their $27 deal for jazzy shrimp and a bottle of Urban Riesling. Great price. We also ordered their brisket slider trio. The shrimp had a yummy bangbang type of sauce on it, but they were very soggy. The brisket wasn't tender, and the wine wasn't our favorite (even though we drink Rieslings often). All of the servers were really nice, but it definitely took us quite a bit to cash out. Rockwells is just a couple of doors down and definitely has their food menu beat, and they also offer jazz nights... so I'm not sure I'd return here sadly!

10/10 in both wine and food selections. This place has the classy and the sassy in its decor. The customer service is above and beyond what's expected in a pandemic. The ambiance takes me back to NYC or philadelphia.

I'm so happy we decided to visit this lovely wine bar. The owners are super knowledgeable. It's owned by a couple and the husband is the only Black sommelier in Michigan! They took their time explaining different notes to us, history, and where the wine was made. We ordered two different charcuterie plates and they were lovely. To top it all off there was a live jazz band playing. This was a total vibe and I plan to visit the next time I'm in the area.

Great prices, music and service! I came down from Chicago for the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by the diverse crowd and wonderful ambiance. The best thing was that my friends and I were greeted personally by the owners. The food was excellent and the service was even better. I will certainly be back next time I'm in GR.

Seriously amazing food. I have come 2 times and have not had a mediocre dish. The owner put his heart in the menu and you can taste it. Jazz and the ambiance just put an incredible cherry on top. Staff was attentive and friendly. I only visit GR for work, will make this a must ever time I come! Highly recommended!!!

Great addition to Grand Rapids. My friend and I stopped in for wine flights and appetizers. The atmosphere is lovely with modern & chic decor. We enjoyed all of the wine that we tried. The charcuterie board was okay, and the shrimp appetizer was quite spicy. I would still recommend checking it out for anyone looking for a new experience in GR. Very classy place with good wine. I will have to return on a night with live music!

The interior is a nice vibe with picnic tables and booths, as well as a bar and high tops. There is a waitress but you can also order at the bar. The food did take awhile though. We got chips and guac, which I really liked the homemade chips, and the taco special on Tuesdays. For $25, you can pick steak, chicken, or birria tacos; you can mix and match any way you like, so we got 2 steak and 8 birria. It comes with cilantro and onions and salsa roja and verde. I was told the birria tacos were the same as the quesabirria, but just know that for this Tuesdays special, they're not -- it is only the birria taco meat with consommé on the side, no cheese or taco shells dipped in the consommé. UPDATE: My fiancé went back here with his dad a few days later, and he claims the chips tasted old or stale and the birria cheese dip appetizer was too watery and did actually come with birria in it (he had to ask for it and was given a tiny portion). Nonetheless, I'd love to come back here for tacos (quesabirria or steak) and definitely want to try the shrimp ceviche!

One of my good friends took me out for a late birthday celebration here at City Built!…read more This was my first time actually eating here but second time being in/ near the space because a few days before they hosted a World Cup watch party right on Mason street, which was super dope btw! I looked on City Built's website to see the menu before going there (of course) and found out that Los Mariscos De Pancho is now serving their food here which was a nice surprise since I have tried them at their Leonard location a few years back and enjoyed their food! I wish I could've tried some of the food that City Built had before since i had heard good things in the past but loved the combination of both City Built and Los Mariscos De Pancho! While browsing their website, I also found out that there would be open mic night on Thursdays and live music/ concerts on Monday nights which is always fun! We sat at the bar and we were pretty close to the musicians so it was kinda loud but my friend and I were still able to have our conversation. We came on a Thursday night around 6:30pm and it was already a steady amount of people there but as the night progressed the restaurant was more busy. Street parking wasn't too hard to find at this time or maybe we just got lucky.I believe the meters are free after 7pm! Walking in, there's bar seating, booth seating, high top table, coffee table seating, and bench style seating where you can sit yourself. There are 2 different entrances and in front of the main one there's patio seating! We opted to sit at the bar this time since most of the booths were full and it just happened to work out that way. We started off with drinks an alcoholic and non alcoholic version of the Agua De Jamaica and an order of the Garlic Butter Mussels. The my NA Agua De Jamaica was refreshing and much needed for the hot day. The mussels come in a serving of 6 or 12 and next time I would definitely order 12 right off the bat because we ended up ordering another round LOL. The sauce was so good I could drink it. The cucumbers were a nice refreshment/ palate cleanser from all that garlicky, buttery goodness. Just writing this review makes me want more right now! I also thought the mussels were a good size too so I will definitely be ordering those again. We also both ordered the Birria Ramen which came with Texas toast which I've never seen before. The portion size of the ramen was very filling since I was stuffed before our 2nd round of mussels came out (which took longer than anticipated to come out since we had to check to see if the order was put in). I also ordered the Birria Plate (4 birria tacos & consume) to go for my husband, which I should've ordered a bit earlier because of how long the mussels took. In the meantime, my friend wanted an expresso martini which they don't normally serve, but our amazing bartender made his own version with what he had and gave us both a cup to try. I don't even drink expresso martinis like that but the drink he made was delicious! I also heard that they have great beers too but I can't speak to that since I drink beers like that. Overall loved the vibes in here. They had different entertainment options like the live music and a few different board games to pick from. The ambiance had lots of natural light, and cute string lights, and overall a nice place to have dinner and drinks! Service was a bit on the slower side, maybe for this particular day, but everyone we interacted with was very friendly.
