I love the store. However a recent incident with my car happened in which the owner, (Pete) would not take care of. A shopping cart hit my car (I have a witness) came out of nowhere, causing a significant dent. I submitted 3 repair options and was and still willing to accept the lowest price, Pete still refused, claiming "act of God", there was no wind, no nothing. This post is for the awesome and personable management (wow, I don't think I've ever said that actual sentence before). Though I don't know them by name, two different managers and two awesome staff helped me find my wallet when I'd lost it (it turns out Id stupidly left it in my car) but even then they were gracious and understanding. The staff here is friendly and don't try to pretend you're not there (cough cough Food For Less) when you need assistance. I've been helped many times and am glad it's so close to where we live! read more

This is the my favorite grocery store. Clean clean clean and the nicest staff ever. I always shop here first and save money. My wife and I were shopping with our service dog when Teresa the owner came screaming down the isle saying we could not have our dog in the store and that we should know better! I have never been treated so rudely in any store. I knew that Teresa was terrible to her employees, look at the turn over, but you would think she would treat customers with more respect. Shopping at the Atascadero Store on Saturday August 8, 2020 I noticed 2 male store employees rushing to sweep up blueberries that had been spilt all over the floor in front of the cold storage area of the produce section. They did not excuse themselves nor even notice I was shopping in that section. I stood back as they collected the berries and one of the men laughed about how one had splattered on the other's pants. One of them was busy sweeping up the berries off the floor with a broom and a dust pan while the other was hand picking them off the floor. I moved on but then forgot a few items, when I returned to the produce section I noted that there were 2 packages of blue berries in containers on the cart that that the employees were utilizing. Then I realized that these were the berries off the floor. I decided to look again as the cart now empty was returned to the back of the store. I realized that the blue berries that were all over the floor of the produce section had been returned to the shelf for some unknowing customer to purchase. I was too appalled to mention this to the check out clerk and now I will always look for packaging that is not sealed and always wash everything I buy! I will also not be returning to that store! In this time of Covid this is unbelievable behavior! Perhaps there are cameras that captured this fiasco as I read signs that say customers are being monitored. This place is my once a week stop for boxed kids lunch stuff (juiceboxes, fruit snacks, etc.) Great for cleaning supplies (20 pk of swiffers for 8!!), shampoo etc. Just remember to check the dates on the food, and you're good. I started shopping here when I moved to Atascadero in early 2014. Since then I shopped in this store 2-3 times a week, ultimately spending THOUSANDS of dollars over 4 years. Every time I've been to this store, I've had my backpack with me, always on my back with both straps secured until I was being rung up at checkout. I walk and take the bus everywhere, so I always have my pack when shopping. Always have. Most recently at this location one week ago. Tonight, however, I was yelled at after I grabbed a shopping basket and barely got 20 feet into the store. I was told I had to leave my pack at the door. Not behind a counter, but at the front door, where anyone could grab and walk off with it. I told them I wasn't comfortable with that because of personal items, some valuable, in the pack. They persisted, I pointed out how long I've shopped there, with the back pack, spent thousands of dollars over the years, with out incident. I then left, leaving their basket where it belonged. While there was certainly frustration and annoyance in my voice, I did not yell, threaten, name-call or use profanity. That is, until a guy that I assume is a manager FOLLOWED ME OUT OF THE STORE to harass and yell at me, making threats, delusionally claiming I was abusive to his employees, then "banning" me when I responded in kind. I am clean, well kept and, in most situations, polite. I have never been treated this way - treated like a piece of thieving garbage because I have a standard-size back pack on my back. And then, on top of that, to be followed out and threatened after leaving of my own accord. Even if I wasn't "banned" by that petty little joke of a human, I would never spend another penny at this, or any other, Grocery Outlet again. Though it costs a little more and is a little less convenient, I will instead gladly spend my hard-earned money at Vons, Smart & Final, or other stores where I'm not treated like this poorly. read more

Love all the Grocery Outlets, now have a good friend doing the wine thing with this one! Always a great selection of products, and they change weekly in most cases so it's like a fun treasure hunt especially the wine!! Now, FYI, I notice many here freak out over so called expiration dates on some items at the Outlet. Most of those sates are the BEST IF USED BY DATE! Doesn't mean right on or even near that date the product is going to be bad! I have had cans of soup/beans/veggies last 3-4 years past the date. Dairy and eggs, yes, use those within a few days after that date. SO much food waste happens cause of these dates. read more

This is a great store to shop at. You can't find everything every time but they have a good selection and great prices. The store is clean and organized. Staff is always friendly. I especially to browse the wine selection. Local to foreign selection. They have some fun stuff too like chocolate wines and nice sparkling wines. The produce is fresh and lasts unlike another discount type store in the area. I have even picked up some garden products like pomegranate bushes and potting material. As far as selection and most employees are very nice. But I think the Atascadero owners are super rude. I've never seen anything like it. I've seen the lady belittle employees in front of customers. The owner lady in a round about way made me feel like I was stealing dog food at checkout. I was yelled at to leave my backpack purse at the counter. My mom was accused of stealing and approached by two women and a man that was the night manager. She was so embarrassed and insulted that she'll never go back again. She even called to file a complaint with the owner and the owner was super rude. I've noticed that a lot of the employees aren't there anymore and my guess is that the owners are unprofessional and treat their employees like crap and have no respect for them. If the owners are so worried about customers stealing and accusing shoppers of stealing, treating their staff like crap, than maybe they shouldn't be in the grocery business. And what's sad is that they clearly don't give a shit. read more

I have had only great shopping experiences at this store. I am delighted they are here. I have been in the area for 32 yrs so have shopped at a lot of different stores over that period of time. This is by far one of the best. I shop here 3-4 times a week and have been since they opened in Nov. The staff has always gone above and beyond to be gracious and helpful. I have never heard a rude comment or seen any disrespect from anyone... from the owners right down to the last stock person. Rather their actions indicate that they are most appreciative of each and every customer.. The prices are phenomenal. I am always amazed at the total on the receipt and think of how much more it would have cost me any place else. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone and everyone. read more

The selection at this location is amazing and the employees are spectacular... It's too bad Pete and Teresa promise their non-management employees full-time hours. That is until they reach the end of their probation period. Then they go back on their word and start cutting hours. Not only do they unfairly cut hours, but they also have a tendency to withhold benefits from their full-time employees. I know certain management employees who are not receiving their benefits and two of them who had to ask about them more than once before anything was started. Not to mention employees getting promoted without raises! Have you ever wondered why you always see so many new employees? Well, it's due to their huge turnover. I had hoped it was due to poor judgement in the hiring process, but soon learned it's all due to Pete and Teresa working the employment system and defecating on their employees lives and hard work. I write this, not to disturb you from going to this store, but in hopes that enough people will personally go to Pete and Teresa and let them know that they should be caring for their employees with much more care and compassion. I have been shopping at Grocery Outlets for over 20 years. They have always been exceptional! My current one I am using is in Atascadero and right away the employees have made me feel right at home. I may as well call it that because when I go there I can be there for up to 3 hours no problem. Weird, I know. One guy there will give you amazing cooking tips and great wine advice. Last visit I was looking for my coffee creamer that they have had the last 3 times I've been, and yes I know that they do not always have things you are looking for but I was disappointed about the creamer because I really did not have time to stop at one more place on my way home. I asked one of the clerks nearby about the lack of creamer and he was so funny and we had some laughs about the creamer situation. I'll be damned if he did not go next door to the 7-11 and purchase me a creamer!!!! WHAT?? Now THAT's customer service!!!!!!! I am so mad that I did not have $3 cash to pay him back right there on the spot but believe me I will make sure his boss knows what an outstanding employee they have in Aaron!!!! I can't tell you how much my niece and I enjoyed that cup of coffee the next morning! :)) read more

This place of business is very unprofessional and do not go by the "customers always right" rule. The owner believe they are better than everyone that shop at their business as well as belittle their employees. They sell all close to expiration items and even items at discounted prices that are past expiration (and legal expiration) dates for products. They will have employees follow customers that look suspicious even though they have quite a few cameras in every section of their store that they could easily moniter customers. They refuse service to anyone that they don't want to deal with, or won't settle problems. Instead they threaten to call the police in lue of harassment and trespassing! I will never shop here and will always give a bad review for this company. I hope Walmart, or the construction for Walmart eventually puts this company out of business, or the owners get so many corporate complaints they get discharged from the grocery outlet industry, or at least out of our community! read more

Having been a Grocery Outlet shopper for the past couple of decades, I am THRILLED to have a store in my current area. The Atascadero Grocery Outlet is clean, well-stocked, and oozing with bargains. The wine selection is excellent, as is the customer service. I have been guided to many new wines via the wine manager, and have been happy with all of his recommendations. I don't know what I would do without this place. Literally. I can walk out with a curling iron, brand name makeup, shampoo and food for under $20. No joke. I have! They literally have everything for the fraction of a trip to Target. It's a hidden gem in Atascadero. They have an amazing wine and beer selection for pennies. They always have something new. If you get hooked on a product.however, they might not have it next time... so if you really love it, stock up. Just be sure to check dates on the food which is normally always good.
