Morning bun, spinach and feta croissant and a butter croissant.
    Daisy Z.

Came here for breakfast today. I was anticipating this visit all last night! Still stellar in their pastries. However this morning, we were disappointed they sold out of their raspberry and white chocolate scones - and it's only 9:30am!!! We did enjoy the almond croissant and morning bun. Also bought some pastries for friends at home. The kitchen is undergoing remodeling right now and they hope it will be done by the end of the year. Even though we didn't get our scones, we still enjoyed our morning pastries. Staff are very friendly and there's some tables inside as well as outdoor. If you're in the area, please stop in and enjoy some awesome delicious pastries! They also have another location in San Luis Obispo

Amazing food and service! Perrin was super charming and sweet. They forgot one thing from our order, and fixed it right away and gave us a complimentary pastry. Coffee was also excellent. Recommend for sure.

Oh My God I have found what my life has been missing: MORNING BUNS! I have never known about the existence of these cinnamony bundles of joy until I visited Back Porch Bakery and thought hey cinnamon buns made with croissant dough does sound pretty good. PRETTY GOOD IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT! As someone who thinks the frosting on cinnamon buns is too sweet and croissants are too flaky/messy... this was... perfect. Has a nice crunch to it where the croissant dough did the work and has a soft chew where all the gorgeous cinnamon butter filling is. Service: fantastic, they even have morning bun samples so plus 10 points hahaha

Although I've been to the Central Coast over 30 times, I've always drive by but never stopped in Atascadero. However, being a huge fan of Back Porch Bakery items that I always order for pickup at the SLO Prado location, I decided to stop at their Atascadero storefront location on the way down. It is attached/part of the hotel Carleton Hotel with tables inside, outside, and the area leading up to the hotel lobby, it didn't feel crowded even for a Sunday morning. So many options to choose but I still couldn't resist my go-to, the spinach feta croissant to eat there and to go along with those baguettes that I didn't have to pre-order 48 hours.

All the folks working were super friendly and helpful. The location was cute and lots of space to sit inside and also outside. They had some doggy bowls outside for water too. Loved the witty quotes of the pastry corner. I ordered a breakfast bun, a blueberry muffin and apple fritter like pastry. All of them were very delicious and not super sweet. I couldn't stop eating the breakfast bun, which was my favorite of the 3. Would come back again, whenever I'm in the area.

Best Almond Croissants on Central Coast! Those are fighting words with all the good bakeries along 101 from Ventura to Paso- but it's true!! You've got to try Back Porch Bakery for yourself! This bakery is the reason to veer off course and take the Atascadero Exit to try their legendary Almond Croissant and while you're there- pick up a few morning buns as well if they haven't run out. Tip- you can call ahead and order like I do! Ambiance is the quaint restored Carlton Hotel and the staff are always so friendly and accommodating. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a pastry-it will make your day!

The Queen of Clubs.~ SADLY IT CAME WITH NO TURKEY ON IT!!!

Was heading in to town today and asked my son to order a few sandwiches...I personally ordered The Queen of Clubs and unfortunately, there was NO turkey on my sandwich - how very disappointing! If it was a matter of not having turkey available, an easy ask if another meat choice was ok would have been better than to just send it on its way without it! The other 2 sandwiches were enjoyed, huge bummer for me!!

I was looking for steel cut oatmeal and I couldn't find a place near our hotel so I stumbled upon this place. We ended up getting a ham and cheese and an almond paste croissant. The ham and cheese was cold since it was sitting in the case, but I thought it would be served warm. If I had known that it was cold, I would have opted for a plain crossiant instead. The almond croissant was good, no complaints there. All the other baked goods looked big and flakey, a sweet breakfast treat if you're in the mood for that.

A nice little bakery in downtown area that's worth a try if you happen to be there. We stayed a night in town and decided to find a bakery nearby for breakfast prior to hitting up the wineries. This bakery has pretty high ratings and was opened so we decided to check it out. No designated parking lot but plenty of street parking. On a Sunday morning, it's pretty empty so service was efficient. They have bar seating along the windows and some table seating. We ordered the almond croissant, the oatmeal cookie and 2 lattes, one being decaffeinated. The lattes were average, nothing to write home about. We stopped at another coffee shop the day before at Paso Robles and the latte we ordered was fantastic. The oatmeal cookie was too hard, I had some jaw pain after chewing on the cookie. The almond croissant was pretty good, flakey and had a reasonable amount of almond paste. I would recommend getting that if you happen to stop by this bakery. Cost was very reasonable, especially the latte price. It's a solid breakfast spot for pastries.

I travel up here for work on occasion and it was a great place for me to purchase fresh donuts instead of the ones down in SLO specially if I wasn't down there already. Overall, The vibe here is more cozy but it is also in a busier location because of the location of the movie theater. I've driven by here hundreds of times but never realize that it was hiding in plain sight. All of my usual favorites are here. There's always a lot of the fancy looking donuts and my personal favorites are the creampuffs. These are probably one of the best creampuffs I've ever had. They're almost like larger donut holes with cream in there. They're just wonderful. I've always wanted to try some of the drinks that they have here but I've always only purchased the donuts and creampuffs here. The last time I was here, the team was very friendly and helpful and they were able to get me in and out of there in a matter of minutes. I needed roughly 5-10 mins to look over all of the options before making my selections. There is a front case with all of the specialty donuts and a whole back wall with the classics donuts. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement. As a group of 4 we decided to order several donuts to share. We ordered the blueberry cake, pecan pie raised, mashed potato raised, lavender with sprinkles raised, pumpkin cheesecake, espresso filled, pumpkin brûlée bites, and a jalapeño ham and cheese croissant. The donuts are very beautifully decorated and the time that was spent decorating them shows. The customer service was patient, kind and very helpful. Some of the funky donuts such as the mashed potato raised donut is actually vanilla flavored and thankfully the person helping us was patient enough to tell us all of the flavors. All of the donuts were delicious. No complaints what so ever. As for the prices, they were listed above and everything is a fair price for speciality donuts. Additionally, they offered a very generous 25% discount for military. Inside there were seating options surrounding a fire place, bar style seating, and some options outdoors.

Our normal order is pasole and brown rice bowl. Pasole our past few times has been lukewarm and lacking flavor. This past visit we waited 45 minutes for our food and saw most of our plates getting cold at the window. We had to ask our for a status of our order when normally we have never waited more then 10-15 minutes. Food was again barely hot. The brown rice bowl was dry and is now missing ingredients and no longer is anywhere near the same dish as it was. They didn't even put the pesto (magic green sauce) in it. It's as if there is a new chef running things cheaper now. Today as we woke up planning to go to paso for wine tasting and our group had zero interest in going there for breakfast due to past experiences. It no longer is our go to breakfast spot which is sad. Also we have noticed on our past visit that front of the house staff and back of the house staff didn't seem to be communicating well. At one point we watched one employee working with the a cook and the cook just stared at the employee ignoring her. When there is communication breakdown in a restaurant this begins the gradual death of a business. Hopefully they can clean it up fast. We may give this place one last shot but if it's just ok quality we won't be back. The food is too pricey to just had bland lukewarm food.
