I went here on a Friday night with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. Things I liked: The music was SO fun to dance to! Ranged from 70's to 90's stuff. The bartenders were all very friendly. I only got domestic beer, but it was reasonable at $3. Things I didn't like: $9 cover charge and smoking. Also, after every song, there was a gap of silence before the next song started (the songs didn't fade into each other). Not a big deal, but it was kind of weird. Overall, I had a fun time. This place is horrible! Called a month ahead of the special night we were to go was told they don't make reservations to call on the night of the event and they would accommodate our party of 16. We did this and arrive to be told that we couldn't be seated together because they had other reservations!!! Really!! The "owner" was extremely rude!! We left and took our business elsewhere!! My stepdad was attacked by one of the security guys, literally choking him (head locked pulling from elbow, not wrist) and not letting go (even though he was waving his arms in the air and tapping his arm to tell him to stop - he could not breathe, and wouldn't let go of him even though they were outside of the club - he had just gotten a stamp and walked outside to make a phone call and they wouldn't let him back inside)... (My step dad never get physical with them, he was just trying to get an explanation of why, if they just told him he could go outside to make a phone call, he could not get back inside) Not only that, but when my MOM (50 yr old lady) walked outside and saw this (her husband choking) she ran and started pulling on the guys shirt so he would let go of him, he didn't and another coward, (not a security guy, but it was either another employee or a friend of the security guys - they obviously knew him) grabbed my mom, threw her on the ground and pinned her to the floor with her arm behind her back (hammerlock)... Both of them are still in pain because of this and bruised up... They used to go here all the time, the bartender knows them and even knows what they would drink every time they would go there... Needless to say, they are never going back... terrible place! You would think a place like this would hire professional ppl for their security staff and not rude violent thugs... read more

FOr some reason both times I was there they played "Sympathy For The Devil" not sure how that fits in with the Bee Gees but at I least I enjoyed that song. The smoke will prevent me from returning. This place is great if you are 40. The play classic 80s which is great if that's what you're after. Much older crowd. Not a "hip" place to go. Okay have to say we ended up meeting some great people and having a blast. Don't go for a DJ because they have a jukebox that plays randoms from the 70's and 80's. My experience with Groovys was a positive one! What a fun and interesting place. I would compare it to the State Fair. It's great to people watch. MANY interesting people come here and their age ranges from 20's to 150's, I'm sure. It's definitely a middle age dominant club. The music that they play here is amazing! The 80's, 90's, 00's and anything recent! The only other club that play music I grew up listening is the Copa which in my honest opinion is one of my favorite clubs because I loved going there during my clubbing days. However, the Copa is a different story. Groovys is great and the crowd loves to dance. I saw two little persons, a she-he, he-she, and of course tons of typical creepy dudes and people that shouldn't be there at Groovys. I had a great time. I came in a big group with friends celebrating July birthdays and we all had a hoppin' and poppin' time. The bar makes awesome drinks and they're strong! They have very fast bartenders which is a plus. I like that they have giant television screens with music videos and lots of love seats and chairs around. It's a decent size club. I enjoyed my time here and I'd definitely be back if the opportunity arises. read more

They've got infinity mirrors in random places which was also pretty nifty. My biggest reason that I'm giving this place a five star is because they don't allow drinks on the dance floor. -start rant- Okay girls, suck it up and grow the hell up. Do you really want to be the reason why a friend of yours falls and have a concussion because you got a little too crazy and spilled your drink? Seriously? This place is just pure fun....and probably one of the more popular places to dance for Oklahomans.....the play 70's and 80's tunes from a jukebox, and features one of the most diverse crowds I've ever seen.....old dudes meets Lesbians meets Oklahoma hillbillies. It looks a lot bigger on the outside, but the inside and the dance floor are actually pretty small. Cover charge is $7 - they make nice stiff drinks. Still hard getting use to the smoke in bars here, and it's no exception here. The one place this reminds me of is a place called Red Jacket in Dallas, that is now closed. Oh man, I love going here for ladies night on Thursdays (no cover)! The DJ is ridiculously good and plays a great mix of old and new music. They show the music video of the song playing too, which is pretty cool. Greatest place on earth. I'm from California and I'm young so my typical night out would be at a hip-hop lounge or club. My friends brought me here, and I must say... This is my favorite place to go out in Oklahoma City. It's a smaller venue, but always maintains a comfortable capacity, and I never feel packed in. The songs lean towards the 70's and 80's, but they also play some 90's with a few modern hits. People are there to dance!!! While there will be people sitting, the dance floor is always full. Drinks are moderately priced, but the cover is $9. People there are all ages which makes for a fun evening. Warning: smoking inside is permitted. I just don't get it. Is it retro? Is it 90s? Is it supposed to e Studio 54? I don't think it does any of these well. They charge a cover for you to go into a tiny building with way too many people and wish there was a way of getting a drink in a reasonable amount of time. No! My friends car window was shattered outside this club. A security guard said this happens every other weekend, yet the cops we called had never been called about the automobile burglaries and break ins. It insane to think that a club that has tons of bouncers would not have securities cameras or staff outside the door. I thought this was a safe area. Apparently it's not. Since management and staff are not even willing to work with police officers to secure the area I highly advise avoiding this club. The cover charge is also insanely high. This place really deserves one star. I am tempted to give it two because my friends and I had a great time in spite of it (of course we would have fun anywhere). The drinks were so bad that you couldn't drink them. $9 cash only cover charge--WTH??? It was hot. The music was fun but there was literally a 20 second pause between EVERY SONG--it's a dance club that's not supposed to happen! The music was weird some disco then Backstreet Boys?? The 80's selections were decent. The crowd was the strangest I have ever seen. There were a ton of 50+ year old men dressed in affliction gear trying to hit on the girls the whole time--they were relentless and it was very annoying. All I can say, is that I love Groovys. It isn't perfect, but overall I LOVE it. I grew up during the 70s and love the disco style music. I also like the people that go to Groovys are wide range of age 20s to 50 plus. It is loud and sometime too hot*temperature wise I know it might sound pathetic, but I am there every weekend and enjoy a good time. One thing is I wish the dance floor was bigger, because on the weekend it gets really crowded on the dance floor. I am very confused about the bad reviews here for Groovy's. It works well for those of us who are over 30 and enjoy dancing to REAL music with MELODIES, not techno junk or rap. I have checked out most every club in town and this one does it right. Blech. If you grew up in the 70's then this is the place for you I guess. The crowd here is generally much older but it is funny to watch grammy groove. The dance floor is miniscule and gets packed to the point that you can't even dance without swapping sweat with at least 3 other people. I honestly do not know how to dance to this kind of music but I fit right in because I don't think anyone else does either. I got a little burnt out on the backstreet boys and nsync 5 songs in a row. I think the dj should do a better job of mixing things up. The mixed drinks are tiny and well overpriced. Also, the $9 cover charge seems absolutely unnecessary. I don't go to clubs that take a cover charge unless there is a live band I want to see. I only came here because a friend wanted to go for her birthday so I had no choice. I really hate this place. One of the most rude places I've ever been. For one thing, the manager needs to be educated on what is "customer service." The place is too small and there is a $9 cover charge which is ridiculous...so what are you paying for? There isn't a DJ nor band; only recorded music. My boyfriend moved a chair from one place to another so we could sit at the bar overlooking the dance floor but was humiliated by a "rude" bouncer who placed his hands on the chair and dumped me out of the chair so he could return it to another table where no one was sitting. Not worth the 9 dollar cover charge since we drink and have to come out with lung cancer. Too many smokers and the music not so good if you like to hear the whole album of Saturday night fever.
