They accommodated my "emergency" and took such good care of my fur baby! Especially their attentiveness to my pet's needs.

I took my dog in for a quarantine. The cage they put them in had just a grate bottom. When they clean the cage they just spray it out. While the dog stays in the crate. I understand the animals have to stay in quarantine but that seems very inhumane to spray the animal while cleaning the crate. No way they can do it without getting the animal wet while cleaning the car that way. Once I realized this I picked up my dog the very next day and took him else where. Then I was charged for 2 days and an exit exam. All of which is their "policy". I feel like it's a way to scam customers. Please do not take your animal there if you care about them!!! They were also very condescending when speaking to me about their policy. I took my dog to a place that has a small area outside their cage that the animal can go out to while the cage is being cleaned. Still enclosed and quarantined. read more

This place sucks. Took in my new 8 week old Porkie puppy to this vet, as out of the litter of 6 , 3 of them had ringworms. I told them when I went in. Several times. Oh they gave her something for worms. I'm talking to my daughter and she's like that doesn't sound right. I call back and they tell me just to watch her as giving her the medication can be detrimental to her health. WTF?? Anyway, 2 weeks later the poor baby is screaming and yelping and itching and biting herself. Course it's the weekend... we literally didn't get any sleep. She seemed better Monday. Tuesday she's back to crying. She's lethargic and won't eat or drink water. I take her to VCA animal Hospital. They roll their eyes. Not only does she have ringworms but she has a bacterial infection on her tummy. This puppy could very well have died as she didn't feel well, wouldn't eat or drink which can make them go into low sugar and die. On top of that, now I have to watch my 7 year old cat for signs of ringworm as once you bring an infected pet into your home, literally everything they touch can spread it to other pets as well as humans. Mi didn't separate them as I didn't know if she was infected. If they had of done they're job my puppy could have been in a cage for 2 weeks and would be over this. Now, she's used to running around so it's none stop crying cause she's locked in a cage. I'm having to hand feed her to get her to eat. My cat could become infected. I've had to literally scrub down every single surface of my home. I've had to wash every single thing the pup has come into contact with. Her bedding must be washed daily. IF I GET RINGWORMS OR MY CAT THEY NEED TO PAY FOR THE TREATMENT. I WAS ALSO TOLD ON THE BACTERIAL INFECTION IF THEY'RE TABLE IN THE EXAM WASN'T STERILE ENOUGH THAT MIGHT BE WHERE SHE GOT IT. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS SHINE A BLACK LIGHT ON HER TO SEE IF SHE HAD RINGWORMS. THEY SHOW UP GREEN. THEY DON'T LISTEN AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!!!! I rarely give opinions on any businesses. My animals are my family and going to a vet is haunting based on bad experiences. Time after time it's like going to a car dealer and feeling marked up and shaken down. I chose to get a Persian cat. He's been very difficult to keep healthy and happy but he's my baby. I'm not rich, and one heavy invoice may force me to let go of a creature I consider myself responsible for like a parent. Needless to say, if any problems happen with my fur kids, it's nauseating to go to the clinic with them. So long story, my cat needed a fairly major surgery, tail amputation. It wasn't an easy decision to make for various reasons but I chose Grote to take care of him. After several visits with multiple animals, I've always had a very calming and safe experience. From the vet tech to the doctors, they're all there for the animals. Culture is important and it is clear that they love their jobs and chose their careers because they have genuine compassion for animals, and their parents. I was assuming his tail was going to be carnage. When I picked him up, the sutures were so clean that it looked like it was already months healed. They cleaned his teeth the same time and all went perfectly. The bill was affordable and fair and as usual, the outpatient process was like a good pediatrician going over how to care for the kid during recovery. This is clinic #5 and the previous were hit or miss to downright disgusting. Energy is a big deal and the "vibe" at this place is sincere compassion. I owe it to the staff and ownership to express my experience and thus far I'm grateful and lucky to have found them. read more

We were very disappointed with the lack of attn provided to our pet when taken. The vet that saw her spent little time with our pet, to clean her wound or to help with any type of medicine, etc. She was more concerned about giving us pricing for expensive surgery and teeth removal that wasn't needed. I had just got our 2 Boston Terrier puppies (Batman & Catwoman). They were only about 8 weeks old when I made an appointment at the Grote Veterinary Clinic. We have 4 acres and I wanted to make sure my fur babies got their required shots and vaccines. When I took my fur babies for their appointment. The staff was not very friendly and they put me and my fur babies in room. We were in this room for at least 20 minutes before the female veterinarian and or vet tech came into the room. She was very unfriendly and you could tell by her body language she had no desire to be there. She just looked at my fur babies and said they are still to young to get their vaccinations. I go to check out and they charge me $70.00 for doing absolutely nothing to my fur babies. I had taken my last fur baby that I use to have to them but they were much nicer back then and it was a different veterinarian. I was totally disappointed in how the veterinarian and the staff talked with me and how they treated my fur babies. I will NEVER go back to them again. I ended up taken my fur babies to Parker County Veterinary Hospital at 1724 Blair Dr. In Weatherford. The Parker County Veterinary Hospital staff was outstanding, professional and they treated my fur babies as if they were their babies. What is even nicer was the staff at Parker County didn't act like they were put out by us being there, unlike the staff and vet at Grote Veterinary Clinic had treated us. read more

Amazing experience with my holland lop bunny rabbit! I was recommended by my breeder in WYLIE that they were an amazing vet clinic for bunny neuters/spays and so I took the leap and drove over an hour at 6am and dropped him off, hung out until about 2pm that day doing homework near by and took him home. The doctor and rest of vet staff called and checked up on him periodically throughout that week and went above and beyond to make sure I had the resources needed for his safe recovery. One of the first clinics i've been to with my bun that I felt like the staff truly cared. Seemed like they were very experienced and knowledgeable with rabbits. They were able to get me an appointment that same week and were able to give my cat a rabies booster, a microchip and draw blood for the FAVN all in one visit in addition to helping me solve a yeast infection in my cat's ear that my other vet was willing to let go and said it could not be healed. Another overpricing experience: I don't doubt that Grote is good at veterinary care. However, you should expect to pay 3-5 times what you would pay anywhere else for basic care. Also, don't expect them to be truthful with you about pricing. I was quoted $120 on the phone for a spay. I even repeated the figure back to the receptionist to ensure I had heard her correctly. That amount was squarely in the middle of what I was expecting to pay, so I went ahead. After a staggering final charge, I looked back over my bill. Not only did they charge me DOUBLE what they quoted on the phone, they charged separately for necessary surgical supplies, like anesthesia! So, I suppose if you're okay with them cutting your animal open without painkillers, you can get out the door for just double what they quote you... Insanity! But wait! They didn't stop there. At the end of the day, my bill was four times what I was expecting, with very little to show for it. I expect costs associated with the care of my pets, but this combination of price gouging and dishonesty made it quite the bitter experience for me. read more

I'm leaving this review after quite a bit of consideration. We're fairly new to the area and needed a new vet. We visited this place 3 times total. The first was great, the second and third were subpar to say the least. I took a very small (maybe 3-4) week old kitten that we had found in because she had been losing her hair and had some concerning skin irritation. We saw the female vet and the whole experience felt very rushed and impersonal. I mentioned that she had diarrhea, hoping they'd do a fecal test.. nope. Was simply sent home with an antifungal solution and told it was "likely just round worms". Over the next week the kittens health drastically declined and so we went back in. She was in pretty bad shape, they did a fecal test this time and informed me that she had coccidiosis. We were sent home with the anti-parasitic and a nutritional supplement. We came home, I fed her and gave her the first round of medicine exactly as prescribed.. She died 3 hours later. I placed no blame on this office or the doctors. I'd like to note now that I am almost 21 weeks pregnant and began to be concerned about being in contact with this parasite. I called the following day to try and get more information regarding this and if they could tell me what specific strain of coccidiosis it was and if I should be concerned about contracting toxoplasmosis which can be harmful to my baby. After being passed around to 3 people on the phone, I finally speak to the male vet. He informs me that they simply do not know what strain it is because they don't test for that, they just test for the presence of the eggs.. he then made sure to tell me that it's probably not an issue and I'm "probably overly emotional" about this situation because I'm pregnant. As if this was a completely unreasonable thing to be concerned about. Aside from feeling that this whole thing could've been avoided had they listened to me when I first voiced my concerns, I find this incredibly insulting and needless to say we will be finding another vet. read more

I took my babies here to get taken care of and they did. HOWEVER I was extremely shocked and disappointed with the customer service here. Vanda at the front office was one of the rudest individuals I ever encountered. The vet is an extremely overwhelming place to go to with a large beagle, deaf and half blind dog and a 2 year old. I work in retail. I get it customers can be a lot. I wasn't asking for a lot. Just not to be given dirty looks, judged and quite frankly talked to like I am an idiot. No one helped me with my babies or even offered to assist me getting them out of the car.I am from east Texas where people help one another and show people a little more grace every now and then. No one called me to tell me my dogs were ready to be picked up, no one called to tell me my bill would be $800+ Dollars, no one told me I had medicine for my blind dog. When I asked the lady at the front if they gave him anything vanda snatched my bag and put it right in my face tapping it saying "it's in here" and proceeded to roll her eyes. I choose the high road and didn't say anything but looked at her in shock like really? And she gave me the dirtiest look. I had to ask the lady for a vet to come out and tell me what this medicine is for and why. Never got the why just here it is here are the instructions. I've never felt so unwelcomed when given someone my business EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS in business. Not a single thank you or have a good day just a here is your receipt. I get you're struggling with hiring and short staffed. I am a patient person. Like I said I am in retail, I get it. What I am not patient with is how I was treated and how you were treating others from the start of 8AM when I got there TO 5PM when I picked them up. Short staffing does not justify you treating PAYING customers as if we are annoying you. I've never felt so uneasy, unsure, judged and mistreated in my entire life and I am a person who can speak for myself. Absolutely amazing! I had taken my dog to multiple vets trying to figure out what was wrong with her ears they all told me allergies. It's been about 12 years since I had been to this clinic. My dog journey was having some issues that our current other vet never seemed to address as anything serious although it was driving her crazy. I brought her to Grote to get a second opinion and she was quickly diagnosed and they even worked her into that days schedule so I wouldn't have to come back out. She needed sedation for the procedure and they were AMAZING. They treated Journey as if she was their own and they loved in her talked to her in ways that made her excited and absolutely just made her experience so much more relaxing. The pricing was much better than i had anticipated i felt it was completely fair and affordable!!After it was time for her follow up I decided I'd wait to write this review to see how the second visit went and it went JUST AS WELL as the first. I even was able to get her what she needed for her separation anxiety this appointment. Not only did they treat her and I and my 2year old who had to repeatedly tell them THATS JOURNEY 1 million times as if we had been lifelong customers but they made us feel like we were family and actually took the time to listen and act in issues. Not once did I feel like "just another appointment " or "just another dollar" If I could give them 100 stars I would. CLIENTS BEWARE OF OVERPRICING & Miscellaneous Charges!!!! I have felt taken advantage of here twice. I will not go back. The 1st time I took my dog in for hacking, coughing and gagging. I was told I needed to get her x-rayed, they suspected her trachea was collapsing. So I got prices and rescheduled. I went back and the vet on duty was unable to read the X-rays. She told me I could have them emailed to someone in a different city to have them read for an extra charge. I said no thanks, I'd rather have the doc there read them and just give me a call (that's why I was there, right?). It seemed like an odd deal. Anyway, I checked out, looked at my bill & realized I had been charged for several additions that I was not informed of nor was I asked if it was ok/wanted wanted to buy. Ex: charge for blood pressure check ($18) A week later I still had not heard from the doc so of course I called back. A day later the doc called me back and he did remove/adjust the miscellaneous charges and gave me a possible diagnosis. I went back in for treatment/medication and that went well. However, 2 months later I tried to reorder her scripts from 1-800-PETMEDS & doc Grote's office refused my online prescription. I was told I had to buy from them or I could come to pick up a prescription and find a pet pharmacy! I asked if they would match the price I found on Petmeds. No. I asked why they were trying to make me but from them .... the vet (owner) didn't feel comfortable w/me ordering from Petmeds bc he didn't know where the meds were being manufactured! Really? Shouldn't that be a consumer choice? Oh but I can go to the office, get a paper script and fax it to 1-800-PETMEDS myself!? At Petmeds her meds were $50, at Grotes office it was over $100!! Just went to pick up the prescription and they tried to charge me $30 just for the prescription to take out of the clinic to get filled somewhere else!!!! Just the paper! Unbelievable!!!! read more
