Watched the owner publicly berate a customer because the bartender (owner's daughter) did not understand how the bar tabs worked. After the owner challenged the customer to "throw down" in the parking lot, we had enough and left. It's worth mentioning that the customer in this tale was 6'5" and pushing 300lbs and the restaurant owner (5'8" 160 lbs and strung out) would only threaten him from the safety of the bar rail. Best part was when the owner screamed that they were understaffed and was bothered from his upstairs office to deal with the "unruly customer". Tried three times before reviewing. Had to review tonight bc my entire family had a bad experience Bolognase unfortunate, pizza blah. Didn't even get my order and we Didn't care for the fried artichokes. Service was ok, we understand times are tough and good help hard to find. We patiently had one drink during the course of our two hour experience. Cute Decor but overall the atmosphere was drab. Also the parking lot is a hazard, un even and dangerous- be careful! 10/19/2022. Our daughter got married at the "Barn by the Pemi" and we needed a place for rehearsal dinner without paying for a function room. Contacted James (owner). He welcomed us with open arms. Treated all 28 of us with royalty. Pizza, Chicken Alfredo, Salad, Rolls, Sausage/noodles and meatballs. Outstanding dinner. Service was over the top. Friendly and accommodating. The food was pretty good. Lots of good beers to choose from. The prices are good. On the "cons" side, we saw the waitress twice, when we ordered and when we got the check. Very unfriendly person. I would rate the place so-so as far as cleanliness, and it was noisy and HOT! Apparently they don't have A/C, and if they do, it needs a tune up. I'd give the ventilation system an F. read more

The picture they chose for Yelp tells you pretty much all you need to know. Service was not very good but people were friendly. Calamari was bad and pizza was not that good also. Went first Friday night it was open. Tough nite and I'll leave it there. Since then, we decided to go back and have not been disappointed . . . we had high hopes as this owner has several retaurants in the area and also in FL . . . food has lived up to expectations, and value is great. I would not hesitate to recommend and have gone back often. I've become a fussy eater in my old age, and this place is very good. If you're a millenial with instant-gratification needs, go to McDonalds instead since good, fresh food takes time to prepare. Get a life. Stopped in twice Saturday. Lunch was so good we choose entrees that where amazing. The day bartender was sweet and attentive. Came back for hockey game and pizza. The three night time bartenders where so inattentive. It took over 10 min to order drinks our DD ordered water we had to beg for it. The pizza was under cooked. The chocolate martini was horrible. Asked for dessert the bartender dropped off menus and never came back for order! The layout of bar work station is not at all sensible! The liquor beer and registers are located at one end of extremely long bar. They really need a second station. Im sure that would be help bartenders give better service. read more

The food is good. If you are planning to go on a Tuesday, don't sit at the bar. Waited 25 minutes for bartender to take our food order while taking drink orders from customers coming in after us. Bartenders and waitstaff were confused and not very attentive. I saw four orders go to the wrong customers then my mushroom/cheese pizza came and was a pepperoni and onion pizza! As for the pizza I've made better ones in a toaster oven at home. read more

I do not recommend this restaurant for a number of reasons. I am an out of town guest, visiting with a friend. From walking in the door the food smelt delicious, but the restaurant was extremely hot. We decided to sit outside because it was so hot inside.. after a few minutes we had to move inside due to bugs. Inside was so hot that they kept the door propped open-with no screen. We were attacked by mosquitos inside the restaurant, the waiter even swatted one off my back! I have about 40 mosquito bites on my lower extremities and feet. The next day I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager, Kate, requesting my money back. She took my number and told me the owner would call me back. It has been over a week and I have not heard back from Kate or the restaurant owner. I was told the owner has another restaurant that is occupying most of his time- hence why the a/c was not on. This is a health ordinance violation and should be reported to DPH. read more

The bartenders are horrible, my friends and I waited almost 45 mins to even be greeted! There were a ton of staff in the corner standing around but still we got no help. No one seems to be running the place , it's just a bunch of kids doing nothing. The place itself is gorgeous and I hear the foods god but I never got any. I came to pick up food today and was very uncomfortable. We have a mask mandate here in NH and numerous kitchen staff were walking around withought masks and the person that came to bring me what we ordered never put his mask on. Came to the Grotto on a Friday night. My friend walked into the bathroom with a drink and didn't realize there was a SMALL TINY sign to the LEFT of the bathroom that said "don't bring drinks into bathroom".. a man in a sweatshirt and beanie walked over and yelled at my friend for bringing the drink into the bathroom.. and a man across the bar yelled "it's New Hampshire state LAW" ...THEN THE MAN proceeded to walk BACK to the bar and drink a beer. Was this an employee?? Or some random guy drinking here? This is no way to deal with a customer. Another thing that happened while here was that my other friend tried to buy my roommate a drink at the bar and as my friend ordered the drink for my roommate the bartender pointed at her drink and said "finish your drink first" my friend replied "it's not for me it's for her" and then we were served. I attempted to place to go over a month ago and kept getting the answering machine. Decided to try them again tonight and once again got the answering machine, decided to go in and order to go, they took my order and while I was told 25 minutes it ended up taking 40 minutes. Was given my order only to find marinara missing, garlic rolls missing and a sloppily made calzone. Called back and was only offered to come back in for the rolls. The Grotto is fairly new to Plymouth I have had the pizza and it is good but the service is awful! I have tried three different times to give it a chance as it was new but in a years time it should be straightened out This place is poorly managed and my suggestion is to try another place in Plymouth Phat Fish is owned by them as well there service is marginally better it is to bad as with good management these places would do really well read more

We invited a group of our friends and family to help celebrate our anniversary. It was excellent. Food was plentiful and hot. Because the kitchen is small, the meals came out in shifts, but it was delicious. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The only shortcoming was the broken air conditioner. Ordered a takeout pizza and picked it up at the appointed time. When I got home m wife said the Grotto just called. I had been given the wrong pizza. They only had two ready ones and gave me the wrong one. They said to keep it and they would give us ours if we went back to get it. Well, if we wanted someone else's pizza we would have ordered theirs. We ate it as we were hungry. Our taste differed from whomever ordered this one. Filling. Made the 10 mile round trip to get the pizza we ordered. By this time it had been out of the oven for over an hour. Nice that they gave it to us at no cost. It was sort of old. We wrapped it up and put it away for further investigation tomorrow. What a colossal screw up! We paid for what we thought was ours and ended up with ours still to eat. The place had no diners then. This experience left us with a real bad taste in our mouth for sure. Will not be in much of a rush to return. read more
