We had a wonderful lunch at Lago (Lago in The Inn at Bay Point, Common Man) in Meredith, New Hampshire, right on the lake before the live band and Fourth of July festivities began. We were seated right away by the window, giving us a beautiful view of the water while we enjoyed our meal. We started with the Special 4th of July appetizer, which was festive and patriotic fruity Sweet Crostini's. It felt more like a light dessert before the main course. It was fresh, unique, and beautifully presented. For our entrées, we ordered the perfectly cooked scallops and the meatballs with penne, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The food arrived quickly, the service was incredible, and our server was attentive throughout our visit. The restaurant itself has a cozy, warm, inviting atmosphere, and the lakeside setting makes it even more special. A wonderful dining experience, and we'll definitely be back! read more

Really a 4 but my BF says 5 stars, could be the whole bottle of wine he had at dinner that's influencing this but I'll let him have it. Waitress Kourtney was great! Was told it would be 30 minutes wait but it was more like 10 minutes. Started off with the espresso Martini, the marshmallow cold foam on top was to die for. I literally dug in the jar with my knife to eat it (they build the Martini in front of you). Special app was the curry mussels, these were delicious. Could have done without the roasted red pepper though. We literally we pouring the sauce over bread, our salad, and down our throats. At one point BF looked at me and said would it be trashy if we asked for a straw haha it was that good. He got the bolognese and added the chicken parm chicken to it. It was delicous as is, the chicken parm enhanced it. The meat was so tender and pasta was so fresh and cooked perfectly. Portion was HUGE. I enjoyed his a lot. I had the porchini ravioli with lavender cream sauce. It was good, but definitely for an adventurous eater. There's a lot going on with the carrots, added mushrooms, micro greens, and spinach mixed in, I could have done without the carrots. Sauce was not too flowery tasting, I liked it but at that point I was so full I couldn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked to. Ravoli was good sized, you get 5 big ones. Ceasar salad was decent but I've have better elsewhere. Waitress said dressing was homemade and it had anchovies on it which I love. Wish it came with a lemon wedge. It was a good portion for $8 side salad. They start off the service with bread, olives, cheese, and olive oil. That alone is a fantastic app! Bread service was excellent. There is also cheese and crackers at the front but we did not partake. We got the chocolate cake for dessert. It is literally the same chocolate cake that you can get at cheesecake factory. It was dry but the ganache frosting was fantastic. This was the most lackluster part of the meal. It was such a sad note to end such a good meal on. They end dinner with a complimentary shot of lemoncello and espresso beans which is a really nice touch. Atmosphere- we were seated on the indoor patio next to the windows overlooking the lake. Love the string lights out there. I think the main dining room had a little more to look at but where we were seated it was kind of plain, like it couldn't decide if it was a porch or old Nonna's dining room with the mismatched furniture (which did give it a little charm in a way). Price is in line with what you get. Drinks add up but the crafted cocktails are worth it. One bottle of wine was $40, which arguably was not worth $40 but that's how they get you at restaurants. He had the merlot and said it paired nicely enough with his pasta and chocolate cake. Food was delicious. I had the chicken Milanese and my husband had a seafood special. We split the burrata salad, all were very fresh well prepared. The flourless chocolate torte was amazing! I was looking for a restaurant for a party of 17 in the lake region for a family reunion and reached out to Lago. Rianna, their event coordinator, was friendly and communicative throughout the process providing us with pictures of the space and different set menus. We were provided 3 set menus and decided on B which had salmon, short rib, and chicken as entrees. Each set comes with shared appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts. Our server Nicole was an absolute rockstar. She was incredibly friendly and kind. She answered all our questions and accommodated for the 3 children (under 8) we had as well as one dietary restriction. Two of my family members got martinis which she served tableside which was such a treat for everyone to watch. Thank you, Nicole! As for food, the appetizers were great. The bruschetta and calamari got us ready for the meal and the arugula salad was a delight. I particularly loved the candied walnuts. I ordered the short rib and my wife got the mango chili salmon. The short rib was tender and perfectly cooked, and the potatoes and carrots complimented the protein. It was rustic comfort food at its best. The salmon was unlike any other salmon I have had before. The flavors and the textures of the 3 components paired so well. It was my favorite bite of the meal! If that wasn't enough, the meal ended with chocolate espresso beans, a cup of tiramisu, coffee, and a shot of limoncello. I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the incredible view of the lake. Being in central New Hampshire - an appropriate "nice dinner out" can sometimes be challenging, especially later in the evening. After a very long day of much travel, we happened up Lago as a recommendation on Yelp. Why the heck not? Amiright? First, for a Thursday night, the place was packed. I honestly thought we were getting turned away when we walked in... but no, the hostess pulled a miracle and nearly immediately got us seated. Our waitress, bless her heart I can't remember her name, even though we walked in so close to closing... she greeted us with a smile. I was borderline in tears I was so exhausted and she took the entire experience and turned it on a dime. Cheery, smiles, and a personality as big as the entire restaurant. Our drinks hit the table within minutes. They never ran dry. The martini was on-point and just what I needed to settle and tie-up the ends of the day! We started with the Tuna Tartare w/ avocado mousse. Lord. I still think about that constantly. ON POINT. For dinner my partner had the Orecchiette Sausage Broccolini (albeit, I feel like his was asparagus vs broccoli? Maybe I'm mistaken). I had the Piccata. Both meals were absolutely delightful. Beautifully plated and served piping hot... I can't say enough wonderful things about the entire experience. The staff, drinks, price-point, ambiance, and food was absolutely perfect and I can't sing their praises enough. We were visiting friends in nearby Moultonborough and we took them out for supper at Lago which they recommended. It's is a charming restaurant, clean, warm and inviting. The bar occupied the middle with the main seating area in the back. Immediately, Bella introduced herself as our server. What a joy! Pleasant, happy and informative. I had the special of spicy blackened scallops cajon style. It was on a bed of buttery pasta. So good. I paired it with the Brown eyed girl iPad. Bella provided the alcohol percentage. My Irene had the chicken Marsala but wished the mashed potato was on the side inside of laying under the chicken. She said it was excellent. My friends had other dishes which they said were excellent. We did not have dessert because they were heavy meals. The hiccups were minor costing the restaurant a fifth star. The drinks were slow to come out as was the food. Bella made up for it with extra buttery bread and a bright smile. The manager stopped by which I thought was great customer service. I call this a memorable meal served by an outstanding young woman, Bella who is really an Isabella. If you happen to be in the New Hampshire lakes region, you must try Lago. read more

This was a mess, we never got seated at all. They don't take reservations, which is fine. We called an hour beforehand and asked to be put on the list for a party of 5, was told the wait at that time was 45-60 minutes, and got a confirmation text. Arrived at the appointed time, and discovered we were no where near the front of the line yet, with 17 people still ahead of us. Was directed by the hostess to check our position on line, which predicted another 25 minute wait. That turned into over an hour (so a total of 2 hours of wait time). Finally we were texted that our table was ready. On the wau to the hostess desk, another text "Oh sorry, that's someone else". At that point, we were checking in with the hostess to see what was up. We were then told that the entry on the wait list was only for 2 people. They then promised us the next table, which they pointed out to us would be cleared shortly (another group was "finishing up"). Imagine our surprise when we saw their entrees arrive 10 minutes later. We were then told that it was going to be a different table, also pointed out. We watched that table sit, no patrons, uncleared, for another 15 minutes. And then we left. In all of this, the hostess just blamed someone prior for the error, told us that our party size was a problem, and simply didn't seem to care. Although she said she was "sorry", it appeared to us that she didn't mean it, nor care at all. We just moved to the area, and are living here year round. This was our first dining attempt at Lago, and given our experience we are unlikely to try again. it was a busy summer weekend night, and it was hectic. But the way this was handled, our experience there, was far below acceptable. Had we enjoyed it, Lago would have had repeat customers over the winter months. Their loss. read more

The staff was very friendly. When you enter, check out the table across from the hostess stand. They have crackers and a different daily cheese choice. You just take a thick slide and bring it to your table. Or maybe, if you have to wait (which we did not have to), you can enjoy in the lobby. Ordered the black raspberry limoncello, which was delicious. Husband ordered the cucumber special drink and said it was just okay. I had the burrata and bruscetta appetizer and enjoyed with GF Flatbread wedges (instead of the usual crisps). It was delicious. Husband got the large meatball appetizer, which was enjoyable. He had to control himself to not eat all 3 and will save later to put over some pasta at home. He also said the bread and olive oil to star was delicious. I will have to take his word for it since I am GF. As for the entrees, we were not impressed. Husband ordered the buccatini and burrata pasta dish. They were out of buccatini and substituted with linguini. They forgot to put the pasta over marinara and put way too many chili pepper flakes on the dish. It was inedible. I ordered the scallops over a butternut caponata and a maple sweet potato pretty and a fennel and apple slaw. The puree tasted like strong cumin (no maple taste at all), and the slaw was very vinegary. Scallops were cooked perfectly. I would recommend to just have the scallops and the caponata and skip the puree and slaw. For dessert - white chocolate and raspberry gelato and chocolate cake. Coming from someone who has always worked in the food service industry, bill is OUTSTANDING at his job. His sales seam to be very high and he seems wonderful with his customers, too bad I wasn't seated in his section and never get to I just hear him at the tables around us. Unfortunately we were put in Olivia's section. The specials were read without telling us anything about them or weather they were entre or appetizer size. She was pretty rude considering how wonderful common man customer service is over all. There were times we didn't even see her for up to a half hour, which as a server that isn't even heard of where I work. I've never had such a poor experience at a common man restaurant with someone. Food is pretty wonderful but the experience was definitely unmatched to it. Definitely need to work on the staffing. Unfortunate for her too, I'm usually a high tipper. read more

We went on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy not only a good meal but also a nice view. We were served rustic bread with fresh grated parmesan cheese, olives and olive oil. The bread was fresh and tasty. I had the signature Margarita which was large and very good. My husband had a sweet ice tea, which he said was also very good. We ordered Arugula side salads with gorgonzola cheese, candied pecans and a light vinaigrette. When the salads came it was leaf lettuce, not Arugula. But that wasn't a big deal. They salads were cold and the lettuce was very fresh. I ordered the Alfredo Penne and Parmesan Cream sauce (with no added meat). It was good. My husband ordered the NY Strip Steak entrée. None of the main entrées come with salads, which is why we ordered the Arugula side salad (that wasn't Arugula). His steak wasn't hot and it wasn't as he ordered it, which was medium rare - it was full on rare. It was very difficult to cut because the fascia was still on it. That should have been removed before cooking. The entree also came with a parmesan and herb-stuffed artichoke. The artichoke was so fibrous that it was difficult to cut. The meal before the tip was $91 which we knew it would be a bit on the high side. But we certainly expected a much better steak entree than what was served. Would we go again? Maybe. My wife and I visited on a very busy Friday evening. Unfortunately, parking is a concern since they are connected to a hotel. They do not accept reservations so be prepared to wait. We were told 90 minutes. Normally, we would turn around but since we were from out of town, we decided to wait and have a glass of wine outside on the patio. They have a nice system where you can monitor where you are on the wait list. 90 minutes turned out to be about 75. We glad we waited. We were lucky to score a table overlooking the lake which was behind the restaurant. After we placed our order, they brought us a complimentary basket of bread with dipping oil, salt, and pepper. Bread was fresh and a nice start. We began with the grilled calamari. Fresh, hot, and a nice size portion. Our entrées were the Orecchiette with sausage and broccolini and eggplant parmigiana with zucchini noodles. Both were excellent choices. The pasta was cooked to perfection and there was plenty of chopped sausage and broccolini. Yummy. My wife finished her eggplant and thought the sauce was very tasty. Just the right amount of mozzarella. No room for dessert. The service was friendly and excellent. The prices were competitive for the area. Their private parking lot was full and we had to drive around to find a spot. I don't know if they an agreement with a local business for overflow. read more

We've been coming to this restaurant annually since our anniversary in 2013. (We've been together since 2012 and discovered lago the following year.) Every year we call for reservations on July 4 and every year we have been told only hotel guests can get a reservation or call ahead for dinner, and that the April and dining room is first come first serve. Problem is, every time we've come, the wait has been excruciating and last year we never made it to the patio. We've never been able to make reservations at the hotel because they have been sold out! This year, we finally got our hotel stay booked and I called to reserve a table and give our confirmation number and I had the most awkward conversation with the manager who kept saying "that is so frustrating and on behlaf of lago I am so sorry for the miscommunication because July 4 is blacked out for any reservations". Then proceeded to tell me that Vince the owner has reserved the entire patio and no guests will be able to dine on the patio on Independence Day or see the fireworks. I hung up the phone because not only is our annual anniversary tradition seemingly ruined, but I spent 1000$ on a hotel stay to have a stress fee dinner at our favorite restaurant and now I feel like I wasted our mini vacation. We went to Lago for dinner during the long weekend. Thankfully we did call ahead to be added to the wait list, so by the time we arrived we received a text that our table was ready! We had a great server who told us the specials. We started with the chicken parm egg rolls for an appetizer...highly recommend! Dinner did take a bit to be brought out, but the place was packed and our server did check in with us. I had the chicken piccata and my fiance the seafood risotto. Both were good, my fiance noted that he really liked their red sauce. We ended our meal with delicious espresso martinis, unfortunately they had already run out of tiramisu by 7pm! We recently vacationed in the NH Lakes Region. While we were there, we wanted to have a meal at a restaurant with a great lake view. Most of the recommendations we heard said Lago was the place, so we gave it a try. Little did we realize we had chosen the same night as one of the nastiest, most entitled men on the planet, who was seated close enough to us for us to overhear everything he said. We left feeling embarrassed for his family. Before I get to that, let me say that the food was excellent. We loved the bread with the infused olive oil and shredded parmesan -- we ate enough of that to not need an appetizer (the meatballs looked fantastic, though) -- and the service was impeccable. I don't recall our server's name, but he was very attentive, knowledgeable and did a great job communicating updates. It did take a bit for our entrees to arrive, but our server explained that they were short a cook in the kitchen tonight, so we understood. The guy at that other table, though, did not. The table was a fairly large party. It looked like grandparents, their kids, grandkids, etc. Grandpa was the one who was losing his mind over the wait time (which really wasn't all that bad for a tourist destination restaurant in the summer). After berating his poor server, the manager came by. This guy was nothing but professional and accommodating to the grumpy grandpa, but the grandpa treated him like sh*t. When the manager tried to apologize for the wait and explain about the kitchen being down a cook, the grandpa cut him off, called him stupid and a liar (!!). I have to give this manager credit -- he kept his cool, no matter how nasty the grandpa was to him. He had long hair in a ponytail and a beard though, so if you look for him at Lago, he's easy to spot...buy that man a drink! He definitely deserves it if he has to put up with people ike that customer all summer. Aside from our table neighbors being obnoxious and rude to everyone who worked there, it was a pleasant evening, even with the long wait times. We'll definitely go back again the next time we're in the Meredith area, though, hopefully, they'll be staffed adequately to handle the volume. read more

This is a classy lakeside restaurant, where most guests came dressed "smart casual" for dinner, and has a wide and unobstructed view of Lake Winnipesaukee and the mountains beyond. We were with cousins and had an outdoor table with an umbrella. The friendly/chatty owner came over to say hello and ask how we're doing. My wife started off with a bowl of mussels and then a salmon entree - she liked everything. I just had some bread and butter to start and my entree was the chicken piccata over linguini. Large portions, reasonable prices, well prepared, good food. Reservations strongly suggested, even on weekday nights (we were there on a Wednesday). Easy parking in a large lot. read more

I agree with Emma H's recent review. We've been here twice in the last four months and both times, the salads, bread, apps, cocktails and service were great, but entrees were just so-so. On a recent visit, hubs asked them to sub gluten-free pasta for orzo, and they complied -- but gave him completely unsauced ziti, without even any butter on it! Combine that with the fact that it's crazy-busy pretty much all the time, and like all Common Man-owned restaurants, they don't take reservations -- and it's just not worth the hassle. You can get there at 4:45 in October and still be quoted a 45-minute wait. We've tried their "call-ahead seating" and it doesn't really buy you anything.) read more

Lago and her sister Lake House (it's a big family) are in perfect locations overlooking Meredith Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee. I've been going to this Italian family member for years and she is always warm and inviting. She has a mostly very good past but at least for me is not often great. She has been attempting to upgrade herself with a more creative menu over the past few years. This time last year the menu change was dramatic but was hit or miss. Another menu change for this season and this time the menu was more appealing and many of the prior greatest hits have carried over. I had the Orecchiette Sausage Broccolini- exceeded expectations. The sausage was delicious and spicy and the dish had a wonderful garlicky taste. Others enjoyed the Eggplant prepared with other vegetables in tomato sauce and parmesan with zucchini pasta. The Arugula Salad with chicken was fresh and generous with its blue cheese and walnuts. The Chicken Piccata was also a hit. And the Bolognese continues it's greatest hit status. My only wish is that she would bring back the half portions of pasta as we all had a lot of food left to bring home. I would come here more often if these half portions were available. Sometimes you don't want such a big meal. The wine menu has been upgraded substantially and now includes a special selection of Italian wines. The Freakshow Cab is a favorite of mine. Lago has sometimes struggled with service on busy summer weekends due to a shortage of staffing. Tonight our service was excellent and attentive. The wait staff looked plentiful and highly competent on a busy night. We had several manager check-ins as well. So Lago has upped her game quite a bit, has a new menu and improved service. Her cozy lakeside setting is stellar. I hope she continues this great trend as the busy summer season approaches. read more

Lago is part of the Common Man group of restaurants that has stuck it out in the NH restaurant scene for a long time. Unfortunately this one seems to be struggling now on most fronts. The waterfront setting in lovely Meredith is a fantastic backdrop for a meal. However our dinner tonight amounted to one execution whiff after another. We came to celebrate good news with friends, and Lago's service and food took a lot of fun out of what should have been a great evening. We brought a magnum of a high end wine with us, knowing from past visits that Lago's wine selection is very pedestrian. The wait staff informed us that management wouldn't allow us to open that bottle, even with a corking fee. What a bummer. But then the cascade of errors mounted. Three different times serving pieces came out dirty (two plates and a fork) over the course of dinner. Yuck. By dirty I mean bits of food stuck to it that were obvious to the naked eye. Our flatbread appetizer took over an hour to arrive. While the restaurant wasn't particularly swamped the kitchen was plainly struggling to keep up. That wait continued as we twiddled out thumbs waiting for our entrees. Unfortunately, this reminded us of prior experiences at Lago. I saw a veal dish on the menu that looked great and asked the server to check with the kitchen to be sure they pound their veal thin. She ran off and quickly came back saying they told her it would be. When it arrived it was as thick as a steak or a pub burger. The flavor was okay, but total whiff on a specific request. My wife had to hunt all over her seafood risotto for a few minor scraps of lobster. This is New England people! We can go to Shaw's or Hannfords and get live lobster steamed for under $12/lb most of the time! Getting chintzy on your priciest menu item is lame. At least the welcoming bread was tasty. read more

Burrata was cold and the filling was not liquid like Burrata should be. The scallops were inconsistent. Some were perfect and some were over cooked. The accompanying butternut squash was crunchy and definitely didn't blend well flavor wise with the sweet potato sauce (which was cold ) with pickled fennel and capers. Chicken piccata was bland. Service was impeccable. Shout out to Charlie. Kid could have handled 6 or 7 tables easily. Memorized the drink specials like a stud. If you're cheap you can order the chicken nuggets and fries and feed a family of four with the copious amounts of tendies. Visited Lago for the first time tonight. What an amazing experience! We sat outside with an awesome view of Lake Winnipesaukee. Service was superb with our waitress Grace. Other co workers and managers contributed to our fantastic experience. Food was delicious. Scallops for my husband and penne Alfredo for myself. Brushetta appetizer was awesome. Oh and don't get me started about the bread. I would definitely recommend stopping here for dinner. Visited Lago with a bunch of friends, we had a party of 8 and our server was so nice and super accommodating. The food was AMAZING, we were all able to try so many things off of the menu since we all ordered different things. The crown jewel of the Common Man restaurant chain. A fine dining experience by the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee. An excellent, well rounded menu with an Italian theme. Everything we ate was well prepared. Service was very good. For me the selling point is the lake and on beautiful days you want to be outside or for the dining room to be open to the lake. Unfortunately, neither of these were true for our visit. read more
