We were in a bit of a time crunch, and he totally had our back. The food was out so fast. My mom got the Jr. Pati and she said the burger was as good as she remembered. The Jr looks big enough on its own, she could barely finish. I basically ate all of her fries, and they were good and salty. I ordered the fried eggplant. It was pretty good, could have used a bit of salt, but otherwise it and the marinara were good. I wish I could remember our waiter's name because he was so great. Stopped in for a quick bite for lunch since I was in Kenner for a training class. Haven't been to a Ground Pati in years since the one in Baton Rouge closed. Had the applewood bacon burger and a tea. I sat at the bar and was addressed quickly and food was out quickly. This place is really nice and has a huge outdoor seating area with a stage. Seems to be really cool to have some drinks and listen to a band. The inside was nice and clean and getting busy since it was lunch time. Burger came out quick and I wanted to love it so bad but was a little disappointed. Cheese was cold and not melted, burger had a good burger taste but was missing some seasoning. I have dinned here a couple of time and I think the food is just ok, mediocre. The service is always fantastic and the space is even more fantastic. I just think the food could be elevated a bit. They did a great job with the parking and the stage area renovations. I think this was really needed in Kenner and in River Town. The food though, is stuff you get at any chain restaurant like Chillis for example. Onion rings, potato skins, burgers, etc. It is a large menu with a lot of options. And there seems to be something for everyone such as light items for those dieting to BBQ items to kids' meals. It is a family friendly space and I love that they decorate it so well during the holidays. Its also very clean, nice bathrooms, and very spacious for big groups or parties. We came here during the Italian fest (which was a joke) and the service was great. Seated immediately, our waitress was Sierra and she was so sweet and very quick. Our food came out within 10 minutes and the kids meal was very hot and fresh. The burgers were warmish but the cheese wasn't even melted which is a huge turn off. The patties were super small and the bread felts dry and stale. Someone got a bacon burger and the bacon was hard and chewy, definitely old. One of us got the flounder sandwich and it had a good flavor but definitely over battered. I had never been to Ground Pat'i when it was on David Drive but when it moved to Williams it has become really popular and lots of people were recommending it so decided to check it out. we went later on Saturday as we thought the lunch rush would be less, but the waitress said that's it's busy all day Saturday and Sunday. we were seated and greeted right away, the service throughout was really good. we started off with the onion rings which were really good and some of the best in the city. we then got the original pat'i burger and the bbq cajun chicken breast sandwich. one of the burgers we got with fries and the other with baked potato. the burgers were good, good size and good flavor as was the bbq cajun chicken breast - again good size and flavor. the baked potato was decent and the fries were alright. we also got a house salad and steamed veggies - the house salad was a bagged salad with a big slice of tomatoe and two onion slices (so not worth it) while the steamed veggies were a good portion of steamed broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower overall great service, nice ambiance and good to decent food read more

Yeah, we'll get to the review, but first a bit of context: As a teenager in the 1970s, I could think of no cooler place for a dinner date than Ground Pat'i. Stuff a twenty in my wallet, pull up in the big Oldsmobile, and enter that dark woody space with peanuts on the table and a truly bitchin' audio system set up on the wall in a locked glass cabinet. Unfortunately, the "date" part of my adolescence pretty much ended with the chopped variety blended into oatmeal, but I did get to spend quite some time there with friends and parents. Ground Pat'i was my first experience with a "gourmet" burger. Before that, you had the fast food chains (McDonalds and Burger King, whose down-menu hamburgers and cheeseburgers have remained remarkably consistent with the same items served 50 years ago), long lost local places like Hoppers and Lee's--oh wait, Lee's is very much still around and I need to review it--and the diner-inspired chains like Crystal and Royal Castle with tiny burgers with grilled onions and mustard on slider buns. Ground Pat'i was a radical departure at the time, a juicy home-style burger cooked to order, with fresh-grated cheese in place of the rubbery slice, and accompanied by a cold drink in a pewter mug. Classy set up for a couple to sit and make eyes or talk about school or whatever a couple did in those days, because at the time I didn't know. (Some might argue I still don't!). Later, chains such as Fuddruckers took up the mantle on gourmet burgers. Chains like Backyard Burgers came around. (Quick aside: I once sat the in dining car headed to Chicago on the City of New Orleans next to a guy who turned out to be the founder of Backyard Burgers.) Ground Pat'i diminished over the years, various locations closed or even burned down, and the company fell into bankruptcy. Now the name and to some extent the memories are being revived. So how did it go? The Review Many of the key elements of what I remember are still there: a perfectly cooked burger, fresh and crispy toppings, shredded cheese. I remember the burger being more seasoned the this, though, and I miss that (it's possible I am thinking of some other gourmet burger place over the past five decades, but the point is the burger is not peppery or particularly seasoned). It's a minor beef (pun intended) as you can compensate with condiments. There are some expanded options for toppings, the most important being blue cheese. What might have seemed to be a health code violation in 1977 is now fully seated in holy trinity of burger cheeses alongside cheddar and swiss. All three are available. The burger comes with a plain white bun. I would have preferred something a little heartier (sesame seeds? maybe toasted?) but it did the job. The loaded baked potato is a treat. Everything except the butter is already onboard. (with sour cream, I skip the butter and tell them to leave it off). The Kenner Rivertown instantiation of Ground Pat'i is set next to the railroad track in a wooden shack that reminded my of Luther's BBQ. No dark lighting, no TEAC reel-to-reel tape deck under glass playing music (I first heard Steely Dan at a Ground Pat'i), but there is a full bar, lots of room, and television screens I normally ignore but not when the Saints are playing. One of my dining party said it looked like a BBQ place, and lo, there is brisket and bbq on the menu. Not old school Ground Pat'i, but it does provide some options for those not wanting a burger. I tried the Brisket Salad on my first visit, and that was my most disappointing experience here, just plain old iceberg with strips of meat. Not particularly flavorful. There's a greatly expanded appetizer section, an improvement even though I do miss the peanuts. Service is consistently friendly and helpful. Kudos to the front of house, your gang is on top of service even when the place is packed. Drinks were kept refilled, and in my case even replaced (the ice in my tea had melted). Overall it's a gourmet burger worth a stop. It's not the Ground Pat'i from the days of Archie Manning in No. 8 and Fat City as the next Bourbon Street (for true: people thought that for a year or two), but close enough. read more

I'll start off by saying that this was definitely a Five-star hamburger! I've also come to realize that I need to stop declaring one burger or another "The Best in Town". From the beginning: we happened to drive through River Town a few days ago and saw Ground Pat'i , and the place looked very comfortable and we love a good burger, so decided to give it a shot this weekend. I can't remember the last time I've eaten at a GP, but I remember them being 'pretty good '. When we arrived we decided that we wanted to eat out in the open air space to the side of the main building. They don't have table service there and instructed us to order from the bar. No problem. I wanted a beer anyway. So we sat at the bar, ordered our beers and our food, and enjoyed pleasant conversation with the bartender while we waited. Very nice atmosphere. Very casual. When the food arrived the bartender made sure we had everything we needed, and we went and sat at one of the picnic tables outside. We put our burgers together and we both took our first bites and about the same time and we both had exactly the same reaction on that first bite: MMM...MMM! By the way, a small but very nice touch was the piece of foil that they'd put between the burger patty and the bottom of the bun. This meant we actually had a bun that hadn't disintegrated before we began eating it. But truly, this was one of the best burgers either of us has eaten in a very long time. Every few bites, we would look at each other and comment about how good this burger was So I can't really give a review on the restaurant in general since we ate outside and only ordered from the bar. But even that was a very pleasant experience. Overall, the place was pretty busy with a lot of wait staff moving around, but it had a good comfortable vibe. I have very little doubt that we will be back. In fact, I have very little doubt that this has become our go-to hamburger place. Oh-- a good burger needs a good beer and this bar has a very good beer selection by the way. What's not to love?! read more

Came here to kill a little time waiting to go to the airport, and I was glad to have chosen this spot. I'd been wanting a good burger and I definitely got one. They have a huge outdoor seating canopy for live music and stuff, and they have quite a bit of seating indoors as well as the bar. I sat at the bar and the bartender was nice, no complaints about her. Decided to get a beer and the black n gold burger. It was so good, I'm such a sucker for a hot sausage patty. Cooked perfectly, great fresh toppings, fries were perfect also. Was a tall like 20oz beer as well I'd assume, or bigger. Tab was $24 if I remember correctly with the beer being $8. 11-24-24. I like to think we are regulars after 8 years. We came here Sunday with good friends of ours this will be our 4th time here with another couple. We found this visit to be underwhelming. Both the women got the Monterey chicken entree, the men got the 8oz ribeye. The onionring appetizer was spot on. We all made the consensus that the entrees were not of quality. The grilling seemed off. Their chicken were dry and had the texture of gritty paste. Our ribeyes seemed like of color and had really no texture on the exterior. A friend and I decided to eat here after doing an activity nearby and heard good things. She got there before I did and was told she would have to wait for me to arrive before being seated despite the inside being only half full. We both had issues parking. The prices were reasonable, and the refills were plenty. I got the blue cheeseburger and it was very good. I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was more on the rare side. I had asked for blue cheese dressing to go with my fries and it was a package. It smelled off and tasted more off, so I covered it with my napkin so I would not have to smell it. The waiter and a busboy tried to take my plate despite the fact that I was still munching on the fries. There is a surcharge to pay with a debit card, the waiter said it was because of the charges to the restaurant. We asked if we could stay a bit and chat and the waiter said that he would rather we not as there was a line out the door of people waiting to be seated. There was no one at the host stand waiting to be seated and no one outside waiting to be seated. Very inappropriate. Same Wonderful Place! I live in Baton Rouge now and I've been sorry to see the Ground Pat'i locations disappear one by one. It's always been the place for a great burger. Consistent and best quality. I remember the 70's when my big sister would take me there. Wall to wall tape decks playing the best rock and roll music and the center fire place. I was able to take my son to the new location in River Town last week and I couldn't believe that Ground Pat'i is still number one. The place has changed and the tape deck is no longer, but the great quality and taste of the burgers and fries remain outstanding. Thank you to the owners for keeping this establishment alive.
