A hidden gem. Not what would be considered fine dining but good food. Loaded with atmosphere. Similar to other Westbank eateries like Jake's and Schnell's, you go there for the food. Breakfast is great. I go there for the best fried chicken in the area. No reservations, no maitre D', just great food at a great price. One word of advice. I'm local by way of birth, although I've been living in San Diego, CA since 1999. And every time I come into town I get the usual fix of food. This time my mom took me to WeGeaux Cafe. I have to tell you they did not disappoint from the service to the check. But the food was outstanding. I ordered a half Cat / half shrimp dressed and it was perfect. From the exact consistency and tenderness of the bread, to the new oil the shrimp and catfish were perfectly fried to a delicious golden color. And the taste was outstanding. Went to Wegeaux Cafe on Westbank expressway.... Oh let me tell you!!! This is a pic of the sauce that the corn and grab soup is made of. My girl said it wasn't her taste, the short waitress told her to take it home because she still had to pay. When she said no thanks she took it back boxed it up and still charged her. Of course she's the manager. Manage me spending my money elsewhere! As much as we eat. And as many people we know... This is horrible customer service. It's not what you say but how you say it. NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE! Very disappointing. I parked in the front with my mom. She is in a wheelchair. After parking we had to walk 5 spaces behind the cars away from the building because we couldnt get pass the cement stops by each parking spot just to get to the front door. It was 98 degrees outside. The food was average. After eating had to walk all the way around again. Got to the back of our vehicle and someones truck squeezed in the spot next to us so close to the back of our vehicle i couldnt get the wheelchair on side of our car. I had to hold her up and walk her to her door. I will never go there again no matter how the food is because they do not support handicap people. read more

It's fallen so far since my last review. That was my first visit. Now this is visit number 3 and the last one. This morning, I ordered 2 eggs over easy, sausage, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. Everything was wrong. Got grits instead of hash browns and no biscuits and gravy. My friend ordered 2 eggs over hard, bacon, hash browns and a biscuit (un-grilled) She got the eggs, but they gave her sausage, and grits and a grilled biscuit. The waitress took the stuff back and our new food came out in just a few seconds. Looks like she just scooped the eggs onto different plates and added the "corrected" food. Hash browns were crispy on the outside and cold inside like they were just slapped on and back off the grill. Really nasty. Gravy tasted like floury glue and neither of us could eat them. You could read through the eggs they were so raw. I tried to eat a bite but I didn't have a straw. If you've ever tried to separate the white and yolk of an egg, you know how the egg TRIES to stay in one gloppy piece. I tried to use a spoon but it literally slid off the spoon, it was so raw. Took a peek into the kitchen and the woman cooking looked like she was just a few years older than God and had to get really close to the order slip to even read it. As we left, I asked the waitresses if they had a new cook and both said no...One said, "She's just having a really bad day." That was as close to an apology for the bad food as we were going to get. No wonder the table that left before us didn't even bother leaving a tip (I did leave one, fyi) That was my last visit. The visit before that, they had a foul-mouthed cook in the back that kept shouting and cursing so loudly, we could hear it in the very front table. When I ask the waitress, she went to let him know people could hear and he got even louder and threatened to "kick the guy's ass" and spit in their food. I think he's gone now, but it's a shame they even had someone like that working there. read more

Not good. I'm all for supporting local businesses and was on my way to McDonald's when I saw this place, I should have gone to McDonald's. I got the cheeseburger po boy deluxe (deluxe come with fries) it was terrible. The burger patty was over cooked and the French bread was stale. Put them together and I was wishing I would have just gotten that Big Mac that I really wanted. They gave me a handful of fries to top off the disappointing plate. The two stars are purely based upon the food, NOT the service I got from the waitress. She came over as soon as I sat down and helped me pick the deluxe so that I wouldn't have to pay extra for fries. I may come back to have something else just to make sure the cook wasn't having an off day. read more

Watched my order get handed to someone else who complained about their French fries next to me. I did not receive my appetizer order until midway through the second quarter (7:45). Companion for dinner arrived around 7:15, did not receive her drink until onion rings arrived. Was hardly ever checked on by waitress, and received attitude when I asked for my check. While the food is good, it appears that they favor To Go orders and familiar faces to other customers. This really saddens me because I really enjoyed the food here up until now. read more

This is simple, diner fair in the middle of Cajun country. First I had the Cajun potatoes and shrimp. The sauce was thick, rich and creamy. Decent number of shrimp in the dish. Then I had the seafood gumbo. Not bad but a bit bland and not much seafood or sausage in my bowl. I also had the shrimp jambalaya with fried fish. The fish was frozen then fried and the jambalaya was also lacking in shrimp. The price was cheap compared to higher end places in The Quarter or on Magazine but I'd prefer there was a bit more to the food than what I got even for the price. read more

We are moving to the area and wanted to find a place we could go to that had good food, comfortable atmosphere. A working persons place. We found it here. We walked in and it was definitely a family type environment. Families eating a good meal. Adults who just got off work from a hard day just wanting to enjoy family and friends. Our waitress Rhonda greeted us with a friendly smile and when we informed her we were new to the area she went above the norm to make us feel welcome. No hesitation no suspicion. She kept our tea glasses filled. And was patient as we asked questions about the menu items. The food arrived piping hot and Omg no skimping on portions here. I had the stuffed chicken. Imagine my delight when I discovered it was stuffed with crab cake. The crab cake was light and flavorful. The chicken cooked to perfection. The sauce it was covered in was so light and creamy to call it a gravy would be an insult. I had never tasted such a delightful concoction before. My husband had the crab cake and angel pasta. And he concurred it was most excellent. I have discovered thru my years of travel when trying something new to always go into the place with the right attitude of excitement you will always have a better experience. I read the reviews, both good and bad before choosing this place for dinner in our new home. And I have to say, this place is wonderful. Maybe the people who had bad experiences had the wrong attitudes. We personally will come back again. And can't wait to try the array of items on the menu. read more

Tried this place out for the first time Tuesday evening. Recently moved to Westwego and found this place on yelp. Based on the three reviews so far, I felt optimistic about trying this cafe. I came in and sat at the front counter. Waitress notice me sitting down but did not greet me. Came over a few minutes later to take my order. I wasn't offered a menu but I already knew what I wanted. Their Facebook page has Tuesday's special of meatloaf with mashed potatoes. Waitress took my order but did not ask me what I wanted to drink. I assumed she was busy and that maybe later she'll bring my food out and ask for drinks then. Waited about 15 mins and waitress brought my order out as to-go! I finally got the hint that she wanted me to leave. Maybe that's why she never asked if I was dining in or taking out. I have never felt so uncomfortable in all my life. So I paid and left. The meatloaf with mashed potatoes were mediocre. I've had better elsewhere. Include a side salad and two small pieces of bread. A lil over $9(reasonable). If it weren't for the food I would have rated this place with one star. Overall, I won't be coming back to this cafe. I feel that if you're not a part of the local Westwego community than you're pretty much won't be treated with a warm welcome. I should know because the servers knew all the other patrons' names as they were walking in. read more
