This is a cute local coffee shop serving a small menu of coffee drinks and baked goods. I ordered the honey oat latte with oat milk for an extra 75 cents. It came out super quick and went down quite easily, but I wouldn't say it was particularly strong if that's what you're looking for. My friend let me try some of her iced vanilla cinnamon latte too. Hers tasted very strongly of cinnamon, too much for me, but maybe you're into that. It's close to the 60 so if you're passing through and you happen to be craving sweet coffee I recommend stopping by. read more

This place must be new or just been hidden! A small coffeeshop with indoor and outdoor seating, that serves up quality coffee. Simple coffee/drink menu, fair prices, and really good coffee beans. It feels a lot like a nice community spot and gem. Dairy free milks are an extra $0.50. The large latte is actually a quad shot, instead of the sad triple most places offer for larges. Amazing. The outdoor seating is a bit noisy for working and taking virtual meetings due to the loud street noise. Other notes: - Not sure if there's a bathroom - I don't think they have food - Wifi available - Accepts card and mobile wallet - Parking available and street parking - Not good for groups - Good for takeout read more

Summary (TLDR): Located in a neighborhood area with somewhat tricky access and limited parking, this coffee spot offers a popular item--the Canela latte, which was enjoyed and competitively priced. The visit was a quick stop during a visit to the city, but the positive experience left a desire to try another latte on a return visit. The Mocha latte, ordered by my boyfriend, was also praised for being not overly sweet. Overall, it's a promising spot for a satisfying coffee break if you find yourself in the area ~ Nestled in a neighborhood area, a little tricky to get to and limited access to parking. I didn't get to snap a photo of my order, but I got the most popular item which was their cinnamon (Canela) latte. It was pretty good and priced same as other coffee shops in the area. Because my bf and I were just visiting we just made a quick stop on our way to the city. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely try another latter. My bf got the Mocha latte and said it was pretty good, not too sweet. read more

Cute little coffee place. If you're driving by, you might miss it as it's on a busy street, but it's right before the next light after the 60 fwy if you're coming south on Garfield. There's a couple spaces right in front for parking but its timed parking. I believe there's also a small lot behind when you turn onto Via San Clemente. I love the iced vanilla latte here. It's creamy and super smooth. It's currently open for takeout only but there's usually a couple of tables to sit and relax. There's not many good coffee places around SGV but I definitely recommend this one. read more

Stopped by here after being disappoint with another coffee shop and I'm so glad I ended up here! The coffee is genuinely good. I got a vanilla cinnamon latte with oat milk & I was not disappointed. It was great. I hardly had to wait but the place looked simple and clean. They also had a book shelf filled with lots of books, so that's fun! The service was great & everyone was friendly. I would come here often for their lattes, the banana oat was my go to. Last week I stopped by to grab 2 drinks & both were bitter, this is the 2nd time it happens, but other than that drinks did not disappoint nor their pastries. Their customer service is unwelcoming and not friendly at all that after last week's unpleasant drinks I decided to check out new coffee shops and I glad I found one. read more

Five stars for service, but 3 for taste. This is a super rustic little coffee shop. Super cute outside with limited seating. Really clean. I got the chai tea on ice and it was flavorless and extremely watered down. I was expecting it to be made with soy milk but it was 90% water and a splash of soy milk. It also has cinnamon and when you sip, there's this dry taste because of it. You get a cinnamon water drink. It doesn't taste like chai at alI. I don't get why they top it with cinnamon. I really wanted to like this place, BUT I will be back to try a coffee next. Hoping for better results . read more

Found this place on yelp since I was in the area. Had to stop here since it's not to off from the freeway for a quick coffee run. Cute little spot there's about 4-5 tables inside the rest is outside. Coffee is good. I asked for a extra shot of espresso. Coffee is nice and smooth very nutty. Not as strong as I'd thought it'd be but it was good. *** Street parking. read more

On the recommendation of my sweet sister-in-law, I tried their Wellness Tea Latte, infused with all manner of goodness (ginger, turmeric, cayenne, cinnamon, and a half-teaspoon of honey), with steamed oat milk. Unbelievably delicious and felt like a blessing going down. read more

The coffee here is great! I think they get it right with the coffee, it's always consistent and their vanilla cinnamon latte is so good! Their matcha latte needs work. I LOVE matcha but unfortunately theirs lacks matcha flavor (umami). I think it could definitely be the type of matcha they use and the color is always a very light green. Not a fan of the brands of milk alternatives they use either. I definitely prefer the califia barista blends. Overall, everyone here is super nice. I've been here over a dozen times and had a great experience. The coffee definitely keeps me coming back! read more

After dropping off Mom at her ophthalmologist appointment, my morning caffeine was much needed, especially, since we didn't have time to stop at Starbucks. Thanks to my trusty Yelp, Ground Up Coffee popped up on my feed and was only six minutes away, woohoo! Ground Up Coffee is located on Garfield Avenue and Via San Clemente in Montebello. They are right next to the Law Office of Leon Fleishman and Hector Gonzalez Padilla. The street adjacent to Ground Up Coffee and Law Firm is the Montebello Country Club. Parking: Small parking lot in back - fits about five cars. If it's packed, there's always street parking. Do not park in the Law Firm's three parking spaces in front (you will be towed). Instead, you'll head into their one-way driveway in the back. COVID-19 Safety Procedures: All patrons and employees wore face masks. Plexiglass is up in front of the cashier station. Hand sanitizers are available and social distancing practiced. There's a spacious patio in front and limited seating inside. However, most patrons either take their orders to go or chill out in the patio area. The space inside is clean and minimal, though they do add cute touches here and there with Halloween décor. There's only one Unisex restroom (I didn't get to use since the guy that went in ahead of me did more than peeing). I ordered an $5.99 ($5.49 + 0.50 extra Almond Milk) Iced Hazelnut Latte with a $3.50 Raspberry & White Chocolate Scone. Both items were delicious and satisfying. The Iced Hazelnut Latte was smooth and creamy with enough kick to give me that bright-eyed, bushy-tailed vibes that I needed. The Raspberry & White Chocolate Scone was huge with crispy edges all around and chewy in the middle! It was also packed with lots of raspberry filling and white chocolate chips. At first, I was bummed that I didn't see any Blueberry scones, but this alternative was well worth it! They also had Banana Nut Bread and cookies on the counter as well. I don't believe they have savory food here and pastries are daily assorted varieties. Service: The male barista assisting me was nice and patient. Upon entrance, I was immediately greeted and was ready to take my order. However, he stepped back a bit when I wasn't ready to order yet. After he took down my order and transaction, he got down to making my drink. It was ready within less than 5 mins, nice! Overall, I'm glad that my Yelp feed introduced me to Ground Up Coffee. Now, whenever I drop off my Mom, I can swing by here for my cuppa Java and pastry fix, yay! read more

Good coffee is based on what you like. My "best coffee" will not be your "best coffee". It is what it is. I do not like dark roasts and am on the constant search for 3rd wave shops which will offer single origin light roasts, especially those presented on espresso. I know I am also exceedingly picky when it comes to medium roasts. When they're offered, I am particular. Over roasting often ruins the flavor profile. However, Ryan's El Salvador Honey Process is roasted exceptionally well as a medium. It has a full body and is deeply flavorful (in this case dark cherry flavor). Shots are weighed, leveled, and pulled perfectly. read more

If you are ever in Montebello please stop by and grab a cup of coffee, latte or tea. This shop is very friendly, clean and has the best atmosphere for hanging out with your loved one, friend or GF. They have plenty of outdoor space. My favorite is the cinnamon latte with almond milk. This place is a definitely a return for me. I'm sure you all have seen this shop while driving on Garfield and wondered if it's good or not. Well, I can tell you it's worth the stop. Great coffee. I got the vanilla cinnamon. Super yummy. And the scones! Highly recommend! My only issue was there wasn't much parking options or seating options. All the tables are for two people and the only table that would fit my party of four, was taken by two people. This doesn't reflect the shop, just inconsiderate customers. But I would like to suggest the ship tape a sign saying "for parties of three or more" OR put another table for bigger parties. read more

This place is a total vibe! Me and my friend came to study for finals but got so distracted by the awesome music and fun little library they have. They have books you can check out and bring back. I wish this coffee shop existed in Torrance. To the owners, if you are reading this, have you ever thought about moving to torrance or opening another location in torrance, we don't have a lot of roasters in Torrance, and you guys would make a great addition. Because your coffee is really good. The atmosphere of this place is minimal, hipster and with a chalkboard menu, a mini library if you want to leave a book or take a book, merchandise, and freshly roasted coffee beans with a description of where they came from. The chalkboard menu a straightforward selection of drinks. What I like is that they include a kids section which is nice. They also have outdoor seating. The location kind of seems hidden some how but the staff was friendly and so I decided to go with an iced latte. It was really good, a little strong but good. They have a nice selection of outlets and good wifi and with the other patrons quietly working it was pretty good atmosphere to get some work done. I got an hours worth of work done before it was time to go. The only thing I wish this store had was more pastries. I did like the one I had I think it was banana bread, I forgot the name, but it was good. read more

My family and I came to support a small business today so we decided to choose this coffee place instead of Starbucks down the street. Coffee tasted good. The place is cute and love the decor. However the staff here is not friendly at all. Reading through other comments I believe this is an issue. The two girls seemed to hate working there. I wouldn't return based on just the customer service. Right at 12:00pm which is their closing time they started kicking everyone out. I understand they are closed but to escort everyone out after 1 minute of closing time is crazy . Oh well on to my next coffee place. Ps: I still gave this place 4 star because I believe it isn't the owners fault for his staff attitude. read more

Love this place! It's cute and you have to look out for it a bit, otherwise you may drive straight past it. Their espresso is always tasty and goes great in a latte. They have non-dairy milks, as well, so my fellow lactose intolerant girlies like me can come here and get a great latte. Service is always great, they are speedy and nice, what more could you ask for! One bummer, though, is they don't really have much in the way of food unfortunately, so it's coffee only with a few scones at the front. read more

4.5 Their (oat milk) latte is a very warming cup of joy where you could clearly taste the darker notes of espresso straight away but then warmly rounds out from velvety texture of the oat milk. What's strange to me I've found that, from the multiple times I've been here, the first sip of their lattes seem plain and unimpressive; but after a couple more sips the taste and texture becomes better (and I can't explain why just yet.) Definitely my go-to for when I'm the area, and I think they probably rank 2nd in the San Gabriel area (specifically non-Pasadena, and west of the 57) within the past decade read more

The coffee is excellent, as is the matcha! Our drinks came out extremely quickly and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a very small parking lot. There is a good chance you will not get a spot in the parking lot on a busy day and you may want to use the available street parking spots instead. read more

I live near by and had been wanting to try this place out. On a rainy weekend we decided to try it and it was a cute little spot. I was under the weather so I ordered their Wellness Tea latte with honey and it is quite the boost I needed. I also got a small drip coffee just to try it out and it was okay, a bit acidic for my liking. My husband got their iced vanilla cinnamon latte, he enjoyed his drink. I liked that outdoor seating and service. Ladies were helpful and quick. Place has books and games, needs a little tlc but would definitely return for the Wellness Tea! read more

This place is 10/10. Been going to Ground Up Coffee regularly since May and the lovely humans who work here never disappoint, very friendly and helpful! (Danny and Alyssa.) The menu is very straightforward and everything is delicious. I recommend the cinnamon vanilla latte and the scone. The banana bread is also to die for and i believe it's vegan. Everything is always so fresh, I know they have a local baker who delivers the baked items, and I've gotten lucky to be there when they are still warm. The environment is very clean & cozy. There's lots of shade and a nice breeze so I enjoy working in their outdoor seats. Another bonus is that they are dog friendly! read more

Visiting my friend and needed a caffeine wake up, this place was just the right place. Located super close to the Montabello Country Club, the barista/cashier knew exactly what I wanted and how to properly make it. I'm an iced coffee type of person and an iced cappuccino (aka a short latte or cortado) with soy was perfect. For the price, I will be coming back. There isn't much food except pastries but OMG the banana bread is a MUST HAVE. read more

I like coming here to get my coffee-fix every time I'm around Montebello. I've tried their hot and iced vanilla latte. Regular sweetness is just perfect for my taste. I've also tried their their iced cinnamon latte but wasn't a fan as it was too much cinnamon taste for me. The shop is usually quiet and plenty of room to study or get your work done. Wifi is decent too. They also have some pastry depending on the day. Overall, decent coffee shop and would come back when in town. read more

While in town visiting my grandma for a few weeks, I drove by this spot I had never seen before. As someone who loves checking out new local spots and trying every latte I can get my hands on, I had to stop in. Super cute little shop and delicious lattes! During my trip, I think I came here four times. Even brought my granny with me a few times because she liked their iced teas. My go-to was a Vanilla cinnamon oat milk latte. Um YUM! If you're a latte connoisseur like me, you gotta stop by and try the vanilla cinnamon flavored one. Pro tip.. add a dash of cinnamon powder from the flavoring bar on top. You not regret it. This place has a very cool & chill vibe! Cashier was helpful and had good customer service. I asked if their Cinnamon Latte was sweet, and he advised that it wasn't, however, they could add vanilla sweetener. He continued, stating it was a popular drink and that it was very well liked by customers. I said, I'll have it!!! I also went ahead and ordered their PassionBerry Iced Tea! My drinks were ready in a timely manner! As I waited, I noticed that they had a collection of books which was nice! Good for those who want to sip their coffee and enjoy a nice read. They had good spacious seating inside and outside. What I found to be nice was the big windows that allows for natural lighting to shine in, giving the space brightness for those who are working or doing school assignments. The drinks are were great! I liked how my drink had a nice balance of sweetness with the added vanilla sweetener. My mom enjoyed her iced tea which was refreshing on this hot summer day! I will definitely be coming back again! Specialties

We focus on specialty coffee or artisan coffee. We want to promote healthier coffee with less sugars and preservatives and focus more on the natural flavor notes that coffee already has. We do cold brew, nitro brew, pour overs, espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos especially well. We like the idea of fresh coffee rather than coffee that sits around in a pot all day. We also believe in the whole process off coffee. Properly grown and cultivated, properly imported at fair trade, properly roasted, and then finally, our job, properly prepared to highlight all the afore mentioned concepts. We love coffee but we love when its done right.

Established in 2016.

We started our business in 2016. We are opening doors soon and our business focusses on a Ground Up philosophy. We don't want to be huge like big coffee chains because that dilutes your product. We would much rather have a quality product that we can maintain and control. We also did not want capital investment so we are starting with what we got and its not perfect but its us.

Meet the Business Owner: Daniel and Ryan ..

Daniel and Ryan both started this business because they truly believed they could create a life they wanted. Corporate america wasn't cutting it and they couldn't stand behind this idea of work, work, work doing something you don't even like and then retire and die. In addition, entrepreneurship, has always been something they believed in. Creating something from "The Ground Up." They saw a need for a quality coffee shop in their hometown and did not want to be located in the typical trendy areas where most popular coffee shops exist. So, they decided to take a leap of faith and hope that the community would believe in this idea too. A place for dreamers, conversation, and good coffee. A place that people could come to read, study, and just be inspired.

The employee flipped through a notebook and couldn't even locate one of my son's memberships. We left because my son's patience was gone, which is directly related to his autism. This entire experience left a very sour taste. If a business offers social recreation services through Regional Center, accurate hours and organized membership records are essential. What's even more upsetting is that I later discovered Regional Center was charged for six months of membership, even though we never attended or used the membership at all. I never signed a contract agreeing to ongoing charges. I also received a text stating the membership would not be active if we didn't attend--yet they still billed Regional Center. Also, never extended services. Between the inaccurate hours, lack of accommodation, disorganization, and billing issues, I would not recommend this business to Regional Center families.
