I've given this shop 2 tries to see if maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I truly couldn't enjoy it! I first ordered the vanilla cinnamon latte and I just wasn't a huge fan but I also do not drink as much coffee so that's up to personal preference, but as an avid matcha drinker, it was awful! It was slightly better than Starbucks (which isn't saying much bc theirs is actual garbage) but it didn't have a strong matcha flavor whatsoever! It tasted so watery I was shocked bc the color of it looked right but the taste was way off! I will say the seating inside and out is very nice, and I enjoyed a muffin (I can't remember which one) but I wouldn't return again. read more

Honestly my partner and I have been so excited to try this spot out for maybe a under a year, we have seen videos saying ground up coffee advocates for the culture community and la raza but we weren't shown that , we walked in and ordered a coffee with some banana nut bread , the bread was amazing but the attitude and demeanor of the barista taking our order and making our drinks kind of made our experience less the 3 stars. I do love the nook section along side the water bowls for dogs, I wish they were filled tho! There was no music but it was a calm day with a chill vibe after we got our drinks. I feel like if the boss would teach and always remind their team to always have a smile it will improve a lot. Also this information from someone who services people. read more

This is an amazing place and iced vanilla latte is the best. I go here whenever i have a chance, never missed. The baristas are great and friendly. The outdoor setting very cozy and relaxing. I always drive pass this coffee shop but haven't stopped by till now. It's a really cute little coffee shop on a busy street. Inside it's very quaint with a couple of tables however they also have an outdoor patio area. It look like there was wifi as I saw many patrons working on laptops. Parking might be a little tough especially if it gets a little busy, they have a small area in the back and out in front is 20-30 minute parking. I got the honey latte with soy milk and it was delicious. The honey gave it an amazing flavor and helped the coffee flavor without overly sweetening it. read more

The coffee here is just solid quality, smooth, fresh, and you can tell They put a lot of care into sourcing, and it really comes through in the taste. Our go to is the banana oat latte. It's not overly sweet, just a nice hint of banana that pairs well with the oat milk. We've tried plenty of coffee shops around, but this place consistently nails it. I was looking for a great coffee spot and saw that this has a perfect score. It definitely up there with the rating and solid customer service. I ordered a large latte, extra shot espresso and with almond milk. It was the perfect temperature and the flavor was just right. The cookie that was freshly baked was one of the best chocolate chip cookies I had and really complimented my coffee. The banana bread is excellent and one of the best I've had, wish it had nuts, but great overall. I'd definitely come back again and try their other menu items. Cute little coffee spot on Garfield with a nice outdoor patio seating situation and a small private parking lot in the back (have to turn onto Via San Clemente). There's also some 20 min street parking right outside the front. Ordered a honey oat latte (regular sized / hot) and it was surprisingly delicious! It's a bit on the sweeter end, but not any sweeter than I expected given its name. Coffee itself tasted very smooth. The only small coffee shop in this neighborhood. It's located in a shared corner with a law office behind a Mexican restaurant. Parking is scarce in their tiny lot, about 3-4 spots available. There's 20 min street parking out front if you're just picking up coffee. The vanilla cinnamon latte has a good vanilla latte flavor with the addition of cinnamon powder. When I ordered the hazelnut latte, I couldn't taste any hazelnut flavor and that's usually a prominent kick to a latte. It didn't taste like a regular latte either. It tasted like 10% unidentifiable flavor, 20% espresso, 70% whole milk. I'm not sure what happened but I will be going back to good ol' vanilla cinnamon. read more

I went during the week around 10am so it was not very busy... Their menu is pretty easy and basic... It was my first time trying their coffee so I of coursed asked the girl helping me what she recommended... She asked if I wanted something hot or cold, it was a chilly day so I wanted something hot... She recommended the vanilla cinnamon latte... I Ordered a regular sized vanilla cinnamon latte and a slice of banana bread they had on the counter... I was the only order at the time so I got my coffee very quick... The coffee was very good, I love strong fresh coffee with good flavor... The banana bread was also very tasty.. It was so moist and taste very fresh... I really liked the artwork the coffee shop had on the walls and the pictures of where the coffee beans came from, this coffee shop seems very proud of the coffee beans they brew and gives the people they get the beans the create they deserve... Overall,great customer service, the coffee was great, the banana bread was delicious and the vibe of this coffee shop was very homie and comfortable... I cannot believe I haven't tried this coffeeshop until today. It is truly one of the best coffee spots I've been to, and I've been to a lot. The shop itself is super cute and trendy -- it screams San Diego to me with the plants, string lights, and wooden furniture. I'm from San Diego, so it feels right at home for me. The service here is 10/10; the baristas were so friendly and conversational. They were always asking if I needed anything. My brother got the hazelnut latte and I got the vanilla cinnamon latte, both with oatmilk. First of all, I love that they only charge $0.50 for alternative milk; some places I've been to charge either $0.75 or $1. Both lattes were absolutely AMAZING. They were not overly sweet or too milky (don't you just hate when your coffee tastes just like milk lol). The oat milk is definitely a must for lattes; it makes it very creamy. I didn't check out any of their food selection, but I think they had pastries like banana bread and coffee cake. I would definitely recommend checking this place out! That's how I ended up checking out Ground Up Coffee. I ordered an iced vanilla cinnamon latte, and while it wasn't bad it also wasn't spectacular or impressive in any way. You can bring work here, but this is really a pace to catch up with friends or stop to grab a local brew. 20-minute parking is available right out front which is nice, but it might be more difficult to find a spot if you're looking to stay awhile. I recently have stopped by Ground Up Coffee on a slightly more frequent basis because (1) Fresh Roast in San Gabriel was temporary closed in Dec 2021 due to failing inspection from The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and (2) there aren't too many 3rd wave coffee shop options in Alhambra/San Gabriel/Rosemead/Monterey Park outside of Pasadena and Ground Up Coffee. [Parking]: Small private parking lot is located behind the coffee shop, but there are only 3-4 parking spots. DO NOT PARK RIGHT NEXT TO J&S AMERICAN & MEXICAN MENU! You can also just park in front of the coffee shop (street parking) if space is available. [Menu]: The menu has changed & got simpler since my last visit back in Sept 2019. Sampler Flight is no longer available and just one cold brew option. Nitro brew and pour over are no longer available and iced tea options have cut down to just three. Personally I like their revamped menu. You can add more honey, syrup, and agave to your drinks at the self service counter. *** Latte ($5 regular and $6.50 for large - no additional cost for adding sweeten flavors like vanilla, mocha, and hazelnut): The latte itself was pretty solid and tasted much better than the one from Klatch Coffee, but flavor profile was still not as good as the one from Offset Coffee in Torrance. I also had vanilla latte - again solid drink and wasn't disappoint at all, but it really lacked the "it" factor like Lavender Vanilla Breve from Jameson Brown in Pasadena. *** Ground Up Coffee is still my go-to spot if I don't want to drive all the way to Pasadena/The South Bay/downtown LA. Unsweetened latte price (especially large size) is slightly more expensive than few other third wave coffee shops in LA, but the quality is there so no complain here. My favorite local coffee spot. Everyone is friendly & sweet, the vibe is chill and the coffee is great! I always have a bag of beans to brew at home and even got my mom hooked. She lives in Vegas & orders their beans online for her daily cup. They have a small corner selection of books you can check out for both adults & kids and are very pet friendly. My family and I caught the red eye to California to visit some family. We told them that we wanted coffee and she insisted that we go there. To start, the service was excellent! Ray was so welcoming and positive which brightened up all our tired souls. I'm not sure if I just really wanted coffee or if it was just that good. Nah, seriously though, it was really good. The americano was not stretched out espresso shots, it was STRONG! Just how I like it. The banana bread was top notch and the cranberry scone was the perfect balance of sweet and tart. I appreciate this coffee shop and have been a patron for several years now (six, I believe!). Their beans and cold brews have drawn me to their business fairly consistently despite the drive I have to make to get there (I used to get bags upon bags from here). Sure there were times my cold brew tasted sour, but it wasn't the norm. I would have easily given five stars for all of the reasons above, but the one drawback for me? The hours. Although I understand from a business perspective it may make sense to close shop earlier considering not many people may come to get coffee later in the day, but they used to close at 2 or 3PM which made for better post-lunch drop-ins (mid-day pick-me-ups as well!) or late-weekend starts. Now they close at 1PM. There have been a lot of great coffee shops that have been popping up with hours that personally work better for me, but I'm sure if I'm in the area within that time range, I will most likely drop by again. read more

I've been dreadingggg to try this place!!! I live in East LA but always pass by on the 60 freeway. I finally tried it out this weekend and it did not disappoint! My first thought was "where do I find parking", but I understand because everyone was getting their Sunday morning coffee. I ended up parking across the street and just seeing how packed and busy it was with everyone sitting outside made me excited. I ordered an Ice Vanilla Cinnamon Latte w/ Banana and my cousin got an Iced Cold Brew. The drinks were super fresh and tasty. Comparing to other coffee places, the coffee is so simple but tastier than other others. In this case I'd say.... Simple is Sweet. I love how I was able to taste everything in my latte and nothing was overpowering. It's definitely a favorite for me now. I 100% will be coming back to study and grab coffee. I visited Ground Up on a late Saturday morning on 5/15/2021. I was craving my morning cup so my fiance and I decided to yelp a new coffee spot before heading out to run some errands. We came across Ground-up, which is a quaint, little coffee shop in Montebello. When you walk in there's a little wooden bench with some books on the side to look through in case you decide to stay. The menu is facing the doorway and for some reason, I was a little indecisive with what to order. Fortunately, the staff member who rung us up was patient and did not rush us at all. I decided on ordering a large, hot Hazlenut Latte with Oat Milk $6.50 + $0.50 = $7 while my fiance ordered a large, cold Vanilla Cinnamon Latte w/ Oat Milk $6.50 + $0.50 = $7. I have to admit, the price is a little steep. I guess that's normal now to pay for a cup of latte esp with an oat milk sub but ya girl is definitely lactose intolerant now so...those are the options lol. We didn't wait long at all before receiving our drinks. I'm thankful they had a station where you can add honey, get napkins, and stirrers (I mean y'know since with covid, most of these stations have been put away). Drinks: I really enjoyed tasting both of our cups, which is surprising since I'm usually not too impressed with my espresso drinks. The hazelnut was flavored, not too strong but just enough... while the oat milk added an extra creamy, nutty flavor. It was a very enjoyable latte and was perfectly sweetened and I really enjoyed the flavors of both the hazelnut paired with oat milk. My fiance's vanilla cinnamon was just as enjoyable. However, I'd personally prefer the drink in hot format and his drink was actually sweeter than mine. You can definitely taste the espresso in both drinks, which I appreciate since sometimes when you order lattes, they just taste like flavored milk. All in all, I'd come back. I knocked down a star because the drinks are priced a little higher in my opinion. But they had solid lattes, a chill environment, great customer service, and good vibes. We ordered the vanilla cinnamon latte and the cappuccino. The coffee was very lacking. The only thing you taste in the latte is milk with a dash of cinnamon. The banana oat was probably my favorite, you can also get it with whole milk as well which is what i did.
