Food: I honestly did not try the food so can't comment on any food but can comment on the coffee I tried. I got the Latte de Barrio, I honestly feel like it tasted like any other Spanish latte, made with sweetened condensed milk, so if you like that taste of that you'll like this! Service: Honestly the service was TOP TIER which is why I'm giving them 5 stars. They were super nice and asked if it was our first time there. I said yes and an employee there explained the menu. I was thrilled when my darling girls asked me to meet them here on a Saturday morning. I'm so thankful they discovered this place otherwise I would have never known. Ulew started in 2023 as a pop-up on the corner of Olympic & Soto selling natural juices. Now they have a café where they also serve Guatemalan coffee, pastries, and traditional & creative food options. The entrance is a bit tricky. Go through the doorway by the flower shop and proceed down the hallway. You place your order off to the right and on the left of the hall is the dining area. The lounge is warm & welcoming. It feels and looks like you are in someone's living room. The walls are lined with artwork by local artists, which are for sale, and there are even books & board games for your entertainment. Our order consisted of Café de Olla, Café Del Dia, Latte De La Barrio, and a Jalapeño Cream Cheese Croissant. My Café de Olla was perfect. The first sip was a delight on the palate. I could taste the notes of spices and a hint of orange. The other two beverages were just as good. The bold, richness of the coffee stood out on the Café Del Dia, and the Latte De La Barrio was delicious. I also liked the traditional clay mugs in which they were served. (Large orders are served in a to-go cup.) The Jalapeño Cream Cheese Croissant was also exceptionally good. The croissant was flaky & fluffy with a generous amount of cream cheese filling and jalapeño slices. In addition to the locals, about 10 police officers came in for breakfast. A true testament to how good this place is. I must mention that the staff are incredibly friendly here. The lady at the register, the man who brought us our order and kept checking on us, and the guy who bussed our table. I got off the freeway on the way to work for this? The Ulew Golden Latte combines turmeric, cardamom, black pepper, cinnamon, Koatji milk, and a touch of ginger syrup. It was heavenly! The staff were so friendly and helpful in navigating their menu for the first time. I parked out front and ordered the golden latte, a sol wellness shot and the breakfast sando. This place is darling and I will surely be back next time I'm nearby. In paying for my wellness shot, they gave me 50 cents, what a beautiful gesture of community care. Someone spot lighted this business on TicTok and I made sure to visit the same week. Everything that was show cased appeared to be savory, and it was exactly what I expected. The address that's linked to my Apple Maps, from Yelp was not quite specific. This coffee spot is located inside a mini shopping center. When you drive down Soto St you will see a shop that appears to be half florists and half plants; that's the entrance. If you follow the GPS, it's not quite precise. While I was waiting in the seating area, I was approached by two young women who asked where it was. The seating area is separate from the register where they order and prepare the food down the hall. Seating and restroom is to the left, ordering coffee is a few steps down to the right. It was a 5 min venture and yes it was worth the exploration. I purchased the overnight oats with chia seeds, topped with fruit, and two drinks for a friend and I. My drink was the Cardamom latte, which I specifically selected since cardamom offsets acidity and invites balance. If you're trying to avoid anything acidic, cardamom spice lowers acidity and creates a ph balance. For my friend I ordered the Latte De Barrio; both drinks have a nice earthy taste, which I loved! The ambiance is nice, it appears they have a selection of books that are there for the public, a nicely decorated seating area, and an indigenous Latin American altar. The menu matches the aesthetic of its surroundings. ULEW has a nice welcoming vibe, and attentive staff. I loved the plants that they set up in both the seating room and ordering area. There's plenty of people coming and going, & if I lived near by I would visit more often. I happened to drive from Long Beach to check it out and it was worth it; wish we had something like this in Long Beach. I order the chai, never having had African chai before and curious about the ginger syrup- it was so good, and everyone agreed the chai was the most surprising/best find out of all (but everything was good). This chai isn't very "spicy", which I liked and I could taste the ginger . I tried a sip of all the drinks pictured and was also very surprised by the cold brew! This cute little cafe is located inside the mall. The doors from the outside do NOT open. There is some street parking, and some parking in the plaza next door. the cafe is split into 2 sections. We came here for lunch and tried two of their sandwiches -- the Breakfast Sando and the Tuna Melt -- and both were absolutely delicious. I ordered the Guate-Mayan coffee, and we also had an iced Americano made with one of their Guatemalan bean selections. I think I just found my new favorite coffee shop and I'm in love! First and foremost, the coffee is divine whether you are having a cup of straight drip coffee without the frills or a specialty latte in a ceramic mug, it's both well balanced, flavorful, and aesthetically pleasing. Hands down this has to be the best coffee art I've ever seen and sipped! (View reference images) My Cardamon Latte had a hand-designed butterfly on the foam. The De Olla Latte was delicious, too. Secondly, the service and seating area - with a gallery wall of handmade colorful artwork (some even for sale!) and ceramic tile floor (don't forget to check out the loteria card inspired tile work in the bathroom) - was cute and cozy. The best part of this cafe is that you are supporting a Latino-owned business, specifically Guatemalan, and you can tell that they take pride in their work and they surely deliver a top-quality good and service to our community. A few tips: The address might lead your GPA to the backside of the building, so just stick to the main street. Street parking is available, but, as you know, you've got to read the signs to avoid a ticket. Follow the coffee signs, as the cafe itself is in the rear part of a long corridor of shops (floral shop, barber, etc). Wi-Fi is available so I just might have to bring my laptop the next time I visit. Best sandwich I have ever had in my life. If I had to pick a last meal this sandwich might be it (maybe with a soup on the side). It was like a religious awakening. Never before in my life have I had a sandwich where every bite was this good. It was so good that when I finished the first half I felt compelled to go and make this review instead of cleaning up the stain on my shirt from the sandwich. The drinks are really good too. I'm super picky with my coffee and tea and rarely do I manage to find places that make them perfectly sweet without me having to ask for less sweet and some syrup on the side so I can mix it myself. I asked for less ice and the cup wasn't half-empty which is always a plus. The employees were also very polite and welcoming. Had to go on a little adventure to find a way to get inside (which I enjoyed). It was tucked away inside a mini mall and the dining area is separate from the shop itself. The only downside was finding parking. I had to make a few U-turns and 3-5 point turns in order to pull into the parking lot nearby. But that's mostly a me issue; I'm not very familiar with the area.
