Picaresca is hands down my favorite coffee shop in Boyle Heights! It's Mexican owned and you can truly feel the passion they put into everything they do. The owners are always welcoming, friendly, and genuinely make every customer feel at home. Their customer service is exceptional and one of the main reasons my family and I keep coming back. The food is amazing! Their chicharrón burrito is the best I've had, and the chilaquiles are always fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Their coffee is just as impressive--they roast their own beans, make their own café de olla syrup, and you can even buy their coffee beans to enjoy at home. Every cup tastes fresh, rich, and authentic. I also love the atmosphere. The artwork throughout the shop is beautiful and gives the space so much personality. It's the kind of place where you want to sit, relax, and enjoy your coffee. Another thing I appreciate is that their prices are more affordable than many other coffee shops, especially considering the quality of the food, coffee, and service. Been coming here for a year. Normally I try and few things before I really make a review. Let's start with the staff, only one of the staff members is really kind and bless her heart. It varies who you get, alot of attitude, eye rolls for no reason. Oddly enough, unless you're someone well known they will go over the moon for you. Saw it the other day bring them water salsa while their other customers have to get everything but, i digress. The mulato breakfast sandwich, its flavorful! I do recommend trying it if its your first time and want something not so heavy. I like the chilaquiles, its better when you add a fried egg. Soo yummy, savory, and flavorful! As for the coffee, if you like a pick me up... and a coffee that isn't sweet but strong. I suggest a refresher drink (tonics). The coffee is sugary and you unfortunately cant taste some of the coffee. If that's your preference, we'll i recommend. Besides that, the environment is lovely and art they have. I found this place while on a mission to track down some really good micro-roasted coffee beans, and it was also highly recommended by the wonderful folks at Cafe Minerva in Hermosa Beach. After fighting my way through South Bay traffic and making the drive from Hermosa, I can confidently say it was 100% worth it. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm, welcoming, and full of heart. You can tell there's a lot of love behind what they're doing here, and that energy carries through everything from the service to the food and, of course, the coffee. I ordered a quad espresso over ice, and wow... it was absolutely delicious. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced, and honestly one of the better iced espressos I've had in a long time. Even better, the prices felt very fair for the quality. For food, I ordered the chilaquiles and the frijoladas, and both were incredible. They had this subtle but delicious undertone of spice that kept building with every bite. The surprise star of the visit was their house syrup. It was so good that I ended up buying a bottle to take home. The flavor instantly transported me back to mornings in Mexico with my grandma, waking up early, sipping coffee together, and enjoying the comforting aroma of café de olla. The cafe de olla latte has some extra spices (e.g. orange) in it that makes the flavor more complex. The guayaba (guava) pastry was so flakey and delicious. Finally decided to try this cafe I always drive by since it's always busy. The employees were really sweet, and the decor inside is cute I like the atmosphere and the indoor/outdoor work space. I've been enjoying Picaresca's delicious drinks since 2022 when they were still at their first location by Sears tower. I'm incredibly pleased to see how they've gotten even better since they moved to their second location! Ambiance: Great! Good amount of seating especially for a smaller space. Love that they have indoor and outdoor seats. Their restrooms are always clean and I usually have an easy time finding parking within a block or so. They're also a very principled business, they often have cool community posters/art up! Service: The employees are nice, I like seeing new faces every time I stop by. Food & Drinks: As mentioned above, I've loved their drinks since 2022 and I can say they're still just as good as they were back then! Their previous spot had sandwiches and pastries that were decent, but the introduction of meals to their second location was actually SUCH an epic move. I ordered a bean cheese burrito as well. The burrito is made with black beans. The beans were very tasty. Parking is easy and plentiful (street only) unless you're lucky and can get one of the handful of spots in the lot. We ordered the machaca burrito, the breakfast burrito, the chilaquiles verde, and the evergreen latte. Everything was a hit!!! The chilaquiles came with a running egg on top and the salad was delicious. The chips were crispy and stayed crispy throughout the meal. The burritos were all soooo good. The cheese is used in both are special and from Mexico and made the burritos unique. The machaca was a real standout - almost smoky tasting and unlike anything I've had. La Picaresca has the best coffee! We've been there several times, and have also been there for a few meetings. The ambiance is bright and cheerful with wonderful decor and art. Plus, it is a small independent business which is very community oriented. Service is also excellent. I was thinking of ordering the Cafe de Olla Latte, but the young woman taking my order told me that they had fall specials, and suggested the "Otono Spice" Latte. It sounded good, so I decided to try it. It contains cardamom, condensed milk and orange zest--- it was fantastic---I loved it! The blend of the cardamom (which I love) and the orange zest was amazing. I had it iced, and it was so refreshing! Can't wait to go back and have another one. JJ had a regular iced latte, which he loved as well. He said that it was SO much better than Starbucks. We went on Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of seating, it was quiet and relaxing. JJ was in his element because he engaged in a nice conversation there with a few friendly and interesting people who were also enjoying their coffee, so that added to the experience.
