This restaurant was highly recommended by locals as a great place to eat for us vacationers. They were right! Amazing food and good service. The place was packed on a Monday night around 6:00. Several guests ate outside. It wasn't too hot, but I still prefer to eat indoors. We ordered clam chowder, fish and chips with shrimp and slaw, chicken Milanese with lemon butter, rice, veggies and a sourdough roll. Everything was delicious. I may have licked my plate. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Their menu says that the Grouper Sandwich Basket, which is served with fries and coleslaw for $17.95, is voted #1 in SW Floriday. If you don't want a sandwich, the one piece grouper basket, also served with fries and coleslaw, is $14.95. We ordered the Fisherman's Platter for $37.95 to split, my wife and I. We decided that way we could try a bit of everything. It came with fried grouper, shrimp, scallops and a lobster tail, served with fries, coleslaw, lemon and sauces (cocktail and tarter). I stopped by here a couple of Fridays ago with my family for lunch. It was a rainy day in Naples and so our original plan of picnicking for lunch was ruined. So I fired up Yelp and found grouper and chips. This restaurant is located inside a strip mall and is actually quite tiny inside. Normally they have covered outdoor seating as well but the blowing rain meant that everyone ate inside. The shop consists of six or seven two or four tops and a small place to order and that's it. The decor is a bunch of funny sayings and a lot about eating local. For lunch on this day I went with the 2 piece grouper basket while my wife went with an order of hushpuppies and a bowl of soup. Then my twins split a popcorn shrimp kids meal between them. After a short wait our food was delivered to us and looked good. The only problem was that the waitress had forgotten to put in my order (or even write it down) and so my food wouldn't come until 11 minutes later. Once I got it though, I thought it was quite good. My grouper was fried nicely and the batter on the outside was light and crispy. Then the inside was moist and slightly sweet and I enjoyed dipping it a bit in the tartar sauce. If I had to nitpick the fish I would say that the fish fell out of the breading too easily but it is not something that really bothered me. The steak fries that came with my meal were good too as they were piping hot whenever they came out. I enjoyed that they had malt vinegar on the table and used that on my "chips" for extra flavor. Last but certainly not least on my plate was the Cole slaw which was a creamy variety. I thought that it was good and flavorful (my daughter loved it too) and maybe even overdressed. My wife thought that her hushpuppies and seafood chowder were very good as well. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I clearly wasn't a fan of my food coming out significantly later than the rest, I will admit that it was the best grouper I have had on our vacation thus far. read more

This was another must try restaurants we wanted to hit in Naples. As a matter of fact, it was our first restaurant we ate at. We were a party of 9 after meeting family members there. Hot damn! This place is still amazing and still really busy. You have to wait for a table if you're coming to dine in (inside or outside). Luckily, the service is speedy so tables turnover quickly. Friendly staff but no masks - welcome to Florida! They have a few tables outside, and this is clearly a carry out place so it's not too scary covid wise. I would also like to take this moment to comment on the rare victory I had when my eyes were, in fact, NOT bigger than my stomach. You can order half grouper and half shrimp which is like 2 pieces of grouper and 4 shrimp with a side (get fries duh), but I didn't want to eat all that fried food (only because I literally had all fried food for lunch the previous day) so on their little specials menu, you can do a half portion of that same order. I was sad I was only going to get 2 shrimp, but considering 1 shrimp is bigger than like 5 popeyes shrimp, I wasn't that mad. An amazing fish and chips place in Naples. This place definitely serves fresh seafood well seasoned to bring out the best flavors in your meal. We got here on a busy Saturday evening and had about 20-25mins wait time. This is a really small place with few tables inside and 4 tables outside so please be patient. This place is worth the wait. Once seated, we ordered the jumbo crab cakes and this my dear friends was so delicious that we had to order another one. The sauce was amazing but the crab cakes just next level. We then ordered the grouper basket and this was fresh fish and chips at your table. Deliciousness in every bite. We ended our meal with the dark and tart key lime pie. For those of you willing to listen, this is a cautionary tale that sometimes the amazing yelp community can get something so wrong. We were in town visiting and read all the amazing reviews of this place and we went in with such high expectations. Unfortunately the meal was an utter disappointment. Here is the breakdown. We ordered the linguine with blackened grouper and the famouse fried grouper sandwich. 1. the linguine with blackened grouper came out looking like a hot mess. The linguine was heavily tossed with the blackened grouper mixed with a sprinkling of blanched carrots broccoli and cauliflower. Presentation was utterly poor, it looked like someone just took a bunch of different ingredients and just stir fried it with tons of Cajun seasoning. The Cajun flavoring was so strong I can't even really taste the freshness of the fish. I would forgive the poor presentation if the taste was good. But that was not the case. 2. The grouper sandwich - the fried grouper was done in some sort of tempura batter. The batter was heavily fried and the fish did not taste fresh. Almost got a frozen fish taste. I understand people have differing taste and I can accept that but just not sure how we had such a bad experience. Just wanted to provide one additional data point to help provide an alternate POV. The food was much different from what im used to eating over in Louisiana . For an appetizer I got the lump crab cake, it came in a creamy sauce with a loaf of bread . It was very good , especially if you want to make a sandwich thingy out of it like i did. Theirs are bad. Truly not good. And because chips appears in the title of the restaurant I feel like they should put more effort into this than they do. French fries are certainly a conquerable task, especially compared with the much harder to execute dishes like blackened grouper linguini or again even their perfectly done sandwiches or their fried grouper. The food is always great. The only problem with a great restaurant is they tend to be crowded.

I'll preface this by saying that this place is slightly overrated. But this hole in the wall is a local favorite - and one of mine, too. Seating inside is limited to a handful of tables. There is a bit more outdoor seating near the sidewalk. Expect to wait during peak hours (lunch especially) and during in-season for your preferred seat. The interior is small but establishes that is an institution. Placards on tables permanently reserved for regulars. A service system that despite the size of the joint works seamlessly. Staff is friendly and appear, really, to work as a true team. It's a delight to dine in. The fried grouper is so mild that it can almost pass as flavorless. I know, I know. The breading is really light and nice and their fryer oil is never old or stale. The dishes aren't pretentious, but after having a crab cake or two you might ask yourself, "why hasn't this place expanded because THIS is the perfect crab cake?". Their soups are heavenly. Every one I've tried has been a 5/5. Their fish sandwich is enormous and a go-to for anyone starving after a day on the Gulf. And like I mentioned, get the crab cake!
