I cannot say enough good things about this place. First, make reservations. Trust me, you'll make your own life a lot easier. Second, appreciate the fantastic waitstaff. Our waiter was just the right amount of attentive, actually had opinions about the menu (Christ do I hate the "everything is good" response) and steered my husband and I in the right direction every time. Get the beef tartar. Never have I seen a more beautiful presentation, with gently mounded beef on long thin slices of sturdy but not overly thick cracker, and the egg yolk jam adding the perfect amount of richness. I'm not usually a pasta person either, but the rigatoni with smoked duck breast could make me a believer. You're think duck breast and creamy sauce would be overwhelmingly heavy, but somehow the smokiness and the heat balance everything out and the al dente pasta is a fantastic base. My main, the tempura skate wing, was pretty much perfect, delicate, crisp, with almost creamy meat. The dinner was just a super pleasant, shockingly inexpensive for the quality experience. read more

If this review had a title, it would be "The Night I Fell in Love with a Tart". We were in Grand Rapids for a weekend trip and had several recommendations to go to Grove. It was worth it! The mushroom tart made my best things I've ever eaten list, but everything else was awesome as well. To start, the service was awesome. Our waiter was attentive and funny but not intrusive. The pacing of the food and drinks was pretty much perfect. I highly recommend the three course tasting menu; both DH and I ordered it though we ended up bringing his last course home. I also had the wine pairing which was completely on point for each course. Overall, a fantastic night of delicious food in a great atmosphere. We started with the beef tartare (me) and the shrimp and grits (DH). The beef tartare was excellent. Flat out one of the best I've had. The shrimp and grits were good, but in my VA-born DH's words "too froofy". LOL. Tasty but didn't need all the extra bits that took away from the shrimp and grits which should be the stars. Second course was the mushroom tart (me) and the lasagna (DH). I tried his after he began raving about it, but I was so totally blown away by the mushroom tart that I can't remember much. According to DH, the lasagna was the highlight of his meal and the portion size was double what he expected. Pork in one layer and rabbit on another. I was too involved with the mushroom tart to care. The mushrooms were smokey and the cheddar worked really well along with a buttermilk based sauce underneath. I thought briefly of divorcing my husband and trying to marry the tart or at least the chef. It was at that point that we realized that at least one of the next courses was going home with us. Third and final course was salmon (me) and lamb bolognese (DH). Since we had an hour drive home tomorrow, it seemed better to eat the salmon and take the pasta home, so that is what we did. The salmon was wonderful with a lovely coating. But the rutabaga gratin underneath was the star for me. I kept trying to get DH to eat more salmon so I could get to the veggies. The pasta was tasty, though a little but over peppered for both our tastes. It warmed up well and I am happily munching on it as I type this review. What a superb meal I had here on a visit from Chicago. Quail with andoulie sausage and a lovely ratatouille, a nice blend of tastes and textures. But the dessert was the best. Two slabs of chocolate with bourbon soaked challah in between. Heavenly. read more

Holy. Amazing. 5 stars all day. Best service I've had in years (thanks Erin!). I did the vegan/veg tasting menu ($29) and Erin was super knowledgeable about the entire menu and how we could tweak certain things to make it more vegan friendly. She went above and beyond -- my friend and I couldn't stop gushing about it. On top of impeccable service, the food was unreal. Holy sh*t. The temperature (i am really picky about this), textures, presentation and, most importantly, flavors were perfectly complementary of one another. My friend had the crab wantons which she said was amazing while we each had the walnut salad (again presentation omg) and the vegan fried rice. Delicious through and through! I was perfectly full - not too much or too little and my meal was perfectly balanced in terms of richness. This may be my new favorite spot when I come home to GR! read more

I rarely ever review a restaurant, but I think today is definitely a special occasion. As I was walking down Cherry Street looking for someplace to enjoy a nice lunch outside, I stumbled upon Grove. Apparently this restaurant is normally only open for dinner, but today I was in luck and found out they are now serving lunch. I was greeted by friendly staff and was allowed to pick a table outside. The menu was small but very well design and had everything a lunch menu should have; delicious salads, sandwiches, and some small appetizers. Being a burger and hot chicken sandwich fiend I ordered both with fries and a side of corn fritters. The corn fritters were absolutely amazing. There was a little on the spicy side but not enough kick to make your nose run, and were crispy but moist on the inside. The burger came out on a sesame seed bun that look homemade. The Patty was very similar to a flat top Burger but it was very juicy and had a lot of flavor.  The spicy fried chicken sandwich was absolutely to die for. The bun was very similar to that of the hamburger and the chicken had lot of crunch. Now the fries were perfectly done with salt slightly crispy not soft and we're absolutely amazing. Had I worked in Grand Rapids I would eat at this restaurant every lunch. read more

Underwhelmed by this trendy spot. I could just not be cool enough to appreciate it but we probably won't be back. Minus a star for average food. It was fancy and arrayed Nicely but lacked flavor and substance. It was like all trendiness and no actual satisfaction. Minus a star because our server, who was very nice, was overworked and unable to do her job as well as in sure she'd like. Minus a star because the atmosphere is loud and chaotic. I really felt like I had a better experience when I first left this restaurant, but in retrospect what I liked most was the wine, the service, and one of my tapas, and everything else was just sort of OK. This was my last trip out to Grand Rapids (for work) so I knew I wanted to have a nice dinner somewhere. After reading all of the rave reviews I settled on Grove. I tried a handful of things off their menu: This is what I ordered: *Zingerman's Goat Cheese - this was amazing, definitely the highlight of the meal *Cobia Ceviche - a little too sweet maybe? It was interesting, but I didn't love the flavors. *Seafood Stew - I think this was it, but it could've been called a Paella. I Love Paella so this absolutely lured me in. It was OK, but that's it. I was definitely looking for stronger saffron/pepper flavor and it just wasn't there. The greens mixed in also seemed out of place, flavor-wise. *Some sort of Pear/Apple Dessert - this was the worst. I was really interested in dessert but their dessert list is really very limited (especially compared to their expansive menu), and this ended up tasting like nothing. Like I said before, the wine I ordered, which was some type of Pinot Noir by the glass, was excellent. And the service couldn't have been better. But the food really just didn't do all that much for me. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? I don't know, but I probably spent about $90 for one person including tax and tip and 2 glasses of wine, and for that price I don't think I'd be willing to give it another chance. read more

Completely disappointed with my dining experience. Ate 4/10/14. Didn't order the tasting menu, but a la carte items. First one was the ceviche and I had to look HARD to find two little pieces of fish in the dish. Next I ordered the tenderloin for $36 dollars and got four little pieces of steak. We decided to get last-minute reservations on a whim after checking the menu out online, and we weren't disappointed. The interior is modern and upscale, but not too assuming. The server was friendly and answered all of our questions well. The servers seemed very busy and pressed to give all tables proper attention, but we didn't experience any major lapses in service or any notable issues. The drink menu was vast with everything from bottle service to n/a cocktails. We decided to choose the tasting menu for two as our meal and it was such a wonderful, custom dining experience well worth the value. In addition to the bread course and our choice of dessert, we were able to choose 5 items of any value off the menu as courses. Our first selection was the crudo which was bright, light, and delicate. From there we chose caviar which came on a cake of goat cheese. The cheese cake was a little large in proportion to the caviar serving, but other wise was tasty and indulgent. We followed that with the mushroom course and it was incredible! They were prepared seafood-style as a fritter and other sautéed presentations that genuinely tasted as if it were a dish from the ocean-side. I chose the octopus and my partner chose the pork belly, which they fired and served at the same time per our request. I couldn't get enough of the octopus: it was lightly battered in quinoa and gently seared so it remained tender. The garnishes paired incredibly well and I was very much enjoying myself. Since I don't eat red meat, my s/o had the pork belly to himself and thoroughly enjoyed it. We finished off with a cake that wasn't terribly memorable other than the gold leaf, but I don't remember any complaints about it. Overall, it was one of the best dinners I've had in Michigan for the price. It's a little mind boggling to me that this place has such a high rating. Perhaps my palate is really unsophisticated, but Grove was all sorts of weird. Let me backtrack a little. My brother-in-law, a self proclaimed foodie, saw this place on Yelp while visiting Grand Rapids and suggested it. I had eyed this restaurant in the past but always ended up voting against it because I suspected it was one of those "weird" restaurants. My suspicions were finally confirmed. Let me just say that, first of all, it's a very pretty restaurant, and the staff are all knowledgable and attentive. My issues are solely with their Frankenstein's monster food creations. An example: my grits had tahini, jalapeño peppers, sweet grapes, and Japanese spices, if I recall correctly, in it. WHY? It was as weird as it sounds, and not in a good way. I felt like everything I had was like this...throwing together stuff that really shouldn't be together just to be artsy, or whatever. Nah, guys. It's just kinda lame. The best part of my meal was the Field & Fire bread (duh), and the butterscotch pudding. Everything else was kind of whack and stupidly complicated. I can appreciate that Grove is trying to make cooking interesting, and I like that they put so much emphasis on their food being farm fresh. But, seriously, guys. Been to the Grove a few times, it is always good. We usually get the Taste of the Grove as it is the best deal. Tonight I had the Pork Belly Salad and it was great. I love pork belly and it came with two large pieces. Under the salad had some kind of bean spread with a little heat. There were so many flavors going on in it that every bite was a delight. My wife got the squash soup and it was thick, heavy, and very filling. I had stuffed quail for my entree and it was great too. The meat was so tasty and the mushrooms were outstanding. Like the salad, it had many flavors going on and textures too as the veggies were a crunchy contrast to the meat. My wife had the pork pot pie. It was a filling dish with a heavy gravy. Finally the butterscotch pudding!!!!! You must order it and DO NOT SHARE. This is by far my favorite thing at the Grove and sometimes we stop in just for dessert to get it. It is great pudding with a rich caramel layer on top and whipped cream. Trust me you must get the pudding! read more

Holy. Crap. My boyfriend and I are both vegans. Thankfully, there are some awesome places in GR that are very vegan friendly, like Brick Road, Bartertown, Marie Catrib's, etc. But, none of those restaurants really cater to a fancy night out. So, when we found The Grove, a whole new door was opened. The atmosphere is awesome. Right away, it screamed, "Hey, come be fancy here!", which was perfect because we wanted a nice classy night. I did have a reservation, but we had to wait about five minutes, which wasn't a big deal. I do wish they have some more waiting space, but whatevs. Once we sat, the manager came and explained how the restaurant works and got us vegan menus. We had to get those separate, since that menu isn't on their tablet menus that they hand out. Our server came out right after that, I think his name was Nick, and he was like a robot programmed to be a perfect server. LIke, all he knows is fine dining and breathing! He even said he'd see if something could be made vegan if it wasn't specifically marked vegan. It's nice to know they'll accommodate to special dietary needs instead of acting like it's a hindrance, like some other restaurants we've been to. The one thing that was incredibly refreshing was that the 3 courses, or taste of Grove, is $30 for vegan/vegetarians, while it's $38 on the "regular" menu. Usually, if somewhere isn't as vegan friendly, I'll ask to get something minus the animal products but they'll charge me the same price, when we all know the meat is probably the most expensive part. So that was really cool. 1st course: we both got black bean soup. HOLY FLAVOR BATMAN! There were also jalepenos in it, which gave it a nice kick. This was a perfect start to a meal. 2nd course: I got the orecchiette and boyfriend got risotto. The orecchiette had lots of kick and a ridiculous amount of flavor to it. I almost thought it was a little much, but it was still real delicious. The risotto was perfect, tasted much lighter, with just the right amount of veggies. 3rd course: I got urban mushroom pho and boyfriend got mushroom tacos. The pho was unique to any I've had in the past and, of course, packed with flavor. His mushroom tacos were SO GOOD. It almost tasted like a cream sauce was in it. I really recommend these. Dessert: The server made a special recommendation to the vegan coconut chocolate pudding. When a meat eating server recommends a vegan dessert, you know it's good. AND WAS HE RIGHT IT CHANGED MY LIFE. I haven't had something so creamy, chocolaty, decadent, fluffy, and just all around beautiful in probably years. If ever. Seriously. Even if you're the biggest carnivore in the world, you need to have this pudding. I would recommend it to Ron Swanson even. Like really, I just can't stop thinking about it. It was a really nice experience here, and next time I want to be fancy, I know I'll be coming to Grove. On our way out, the valet even told us that you can get the chocolate coconut pudding to go. Another favorite restaurant of mine in Grand Rapids. I deducted one star only because we head to wait about a half hour past our *reservation* time and pretty much got shooed to the bar. Go ahead and sue me, and call me picky or whatever you want, but when I was in London at Balthazar's, they were so apologetic about our wait (we waited less than 20 minutes and expected to because of its popularity) and they treated us to a bottle of champagne. And they actually talked to us and kept us updated on how things were progressing with our table. Talk about great hospitality. I digress. I remember coming to the Grove awhile back and tasting the best shrimp and grits I ever had in my life, and I've had my fair share of eating this southern comfort dish. I could tell you about the other dishes that were good and another dish that was so-so and bland. But the shrimp and grits were so good that I cannot even focus anymore on anything negative, lol. I sincerely hope this dish is still on the menu, if not, I hope it'll make a comeback :) I can't wait to return and eat here again! read more

We went here based on all of the good reviews and recommendations from others. The food was delicious. The salmon ceviche was my favorite course. The dessert, some fudge thing with brioche in the middle, was delicious as well. My wife had butterscotch pudding, which she loved. Given the price point, I did not find the service to be acceptable. I have no problem paying The Grove's prices for a special meal, but service needs to match the prices. In general, the service was not attentive. The service was not rude or snooty by any stretch of the imagination, just inattentive. For example, we were given a "snacks" plate, but no one explained what it was. My wife and I both still had a glass of wine, and the server brought the bill. We were not lingering / staying beyond an acceptable time frame. On a positive note, we ordered an extra course last minute, and the server got it out quickly. I was impressed by that. As far as ambiance, I found it too loud and crowded, but that's just me. I don't want to be within elbow's reach of the table next to me when I am eating at a nice place. This place just wasn't for us I guess. read more

Earth to Table concepts can sometimes be hit or miss. The entire group was pleasantly surprised about how good the food was. It wasn't only tasty, but beautifully presented. There were a ton of options on the menu and we did find out that the restaurant has a revolving menu where everyday is different. 2 of 3 people in the group participated in "Taste of the Grove" where you get an appetizer, entree and dessert for $36. Definitely a great deal. I had the beet salad which was flavorful, colorful and refreshing. It was the perfect amount for an appetizer salad. The table shared a brie and cornbread appetizer. The brie was actually whipped, which was a nice touch to smoothing it on the cornbread. The portion was unexpectedly large - which was awesome! For my entree, I had the beef ragu. The portion was large and extremely flavorful. The homemade noodles were cooked perfectly. And as a dessert fiend, the dark chocolate challah with pralines and peanuts was pretty amazing. My team had a work trip in Grand Rapids and decided to do our team dinner here. The food was phenomenal and the service was incredible. I ordered the Korean shortrib dish and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had. The meet was so tender and the fried rice was absolutely perfect. I highly suggest it. Our table also ordered the biscuits. It came with coffee butter!! The Grove is has an entire vegan/vegetarian menu, which is difficult to find. Will definitely go back when I'm in town. read more

We have never had a bad meal at Grove. Love the ever changing tasting menu. We started off our night with domain Carneros 2009 Le Rev sparkling wine followed by Freemark Abbey 2014 Cab. I truly appreciate being able to bring my own wine and paying corckage. Every course was phenomenal. Lamb bolognese can be my last meal and I would die happy! Salted caramel dark chocolate fudge was decadent as ever. So was the butterscotch pudding and the chocolate sphere! Perfect place for date night. Loved our server. The only struggle with Grove is deciding what to order from the hot and cold section because everything tastes so dang delicious!!! Miss their fried green tomatoes! Came here for birthday dinner - my 30th! I've been meaning to come to Grove for a long time after hearing so many rave reviews, so I had pretty high expectations. We ordered off both the regular menu and the vegetarian menu, since we are currently eating seafood but no other meat. My wife and I decided to order a variety of items to share. We started with a cheese plate; a semi hard cheese served with spiced raisins and almonds. Delicious, salty-sweet, nutty and balanced. Next we had the crab wonton crackers; sort of a crab salad with a jalapeño on top, with a sweet sort of sesame glaze on it. Super yummy and once again, very balanced and not too spicy which I appreciated. Next we shared the mushroom dumplings with sauerkraut. I was picturing a fairly heavy dish but it was actually light and small; tiny dumplings filled with mild mushrooms in a broth with some sauerkraut on top. We agreed that the sauerkraut was tasty and the dumplings were interesting- very light, not intensely flavorful in a super earthy broth with microgreens and dill. I enjoyed the earthy taste but my wife wasn't as crazy about it. We shared the carbonara entree, which was compromised of bucatini pasta and mushrooms with sautéed onions and an egg yolk sauce. My wife loved this dish but I was so so on it; it just lacked any real punch of flavor and seemed a bit boring to me. The fresh pasta was nice, however. For dessert we had the butterscotch pudding, which had a salted caramel layer, whipped cream, and a shortbread cookie. This is a small dessert but it packs a punch of sweetness and flavor. It was very delicious. The portions here are light, so order with that in mind. Although the dishes are somewhat pricey I did feel that the ingredients were well prepared, fresh, and unique. The one serious bone I have to pick with this whole experience was the tea I ordered (strange, I know). I ordered the decaf Earl Grey Roobios. The tea I got was delicious and hot, served in an individual tea pot which I'm kind of a sucker for. However, I am fairly certain I got tea with caffeine, which I'm fairly sensitive to. I didn't feel the effect right away, but as we finished up our appetizers I started to feel very anxious. I felt better when I realized the tea was probably caffeinated and I wasn't losing my mind or anything, but it's nearly 2 AM and I am not tired at all! For me it's not the end of the world, but some people with heart conditions or anxiety disorders really cannot have caffeine, so it's important to pay attention and be thoughtful when someone orders decaf. Ok- end of my rant. Overall a very enjoyable dining experience, and we plan to return to try more items. read more

Spent a weekend in GR, ate here for dinner and then came back for brunch!!! So delicious! There wasn't a single dish that I did not like and we tried a LOT of dishes. For dinner we tried the zensai, one of the salads, a duck dish, and a pork dish. All were great, but the winner had to be the pork dish. It is not something we would normally order at a restaurant like this, but we are so glad we did. It was extremely indulgent. It was basically pork snitzel (but better) with pretzel spaetzle and a sweet apple based sauce. Everything you could want in a fall comfort food dish. I think this may be my mother's new all-time favorite dish ever. For brunch, the Fried Oyster flatbread with tons of veggies, a pepita pesto, and an egg on top was AMAZING. It may seem like an odd choice for brunch, but get it. Seriously. We also tried the Johnny Cakes (the bourbon syrup was to die for), the cinnamon roll, the breakfast taco, the French toast, and the crab wonton. All good. If you are in Grand Rapids, definitely take the time to check this place out. read more

My expectations for this place were pretty high based purely on the 4.5 star rating. Sure, the reviews were mixed, but surely I'd have at least an above-average dining experience. Sad to say, that was not the case. The décor is hodge-podgey and the noise level at dinner on a Saturday night was on par with a Chili's. The service was slow and lacking. I ordered a Moscow mule, but requested raspberry vodka if available. The waitress told me she would check and let me know if it wasn't. When she came back, she brought my drink and stated, "We don't have raspberry vodka." I would have liked the opportunity to choose a different drink if they couldn't make it as I ordered. Minor annoyance and it detracted from the experience. The Moscow mule, however, was amazing. Highly recommend. For appetizers, we ordered the artisan bread plate and toasted brassicas. The artisan bread plate was good, but not extraordinary. The accompanying dips were garlic oil, sunflower hummus, and ginger butter. The toasted brassicas were delicious, but something I can make it home. My date also got the shrimp and grits. He raved about them, but with the taste I got, the grits had a sweet doughy flavor I didn't care for (almost like raw flour). For entrees, we got the potato tacos and sweet and sour ramen. The potato tacos were insanely spicy (not mentioned on the menu), but otherwise good. My date loved the sweet and sour ramen. We didn't try any desserts. Underwhelmed is the best word to describe our experience. From the service to the food to the atmosphere, it was just okay. Grove is elevating cuisine in Grand Rapids. We selected several dishes from their frequently changing menu. We began with beef tartare, which was really tasty. I enjoyed the interesting kick of the fish sauce and lime. The Chinese bun was flavorful and well cooked. The potato caramels were inventive and melt in your mouth. The pork tomahawk was a huge portion, tender, with delicious apples popping bright bursts of flavor. The duck leg and Andouille was scrumptious. No complaints. I made the trek to Grand Rapids for Art Prize and was excited to try the Grove. It was so highly rated on OpenTable and on other websites for being one of the best restaurants in Michigan (along with The Root). Maybe it was the fact that I came during the busy times in GR but definitely make reservations in advance. It was a Saturday night. I overheard the waiting times to be 40+ mins. However, I did make a reservation and was seated a few minutes after I arrived. Parking was not an issue. I did park on a residential street and walked a few blocks (a bit of walking never hurts anyone). The restaurant has a nice ambiance though it was a tad too loud. I was tempted to try the three course tasting menu but I wasn't hungry enough. I opted for the flounder entree and it was a generous portion. The flounder was cooked well. It came with an array of grilled veggies. It didn't blow me away, but was satisfying. Now, if I left on that note, I would give it 3.5 stars. I think I was anticipating it to be mind blowing, and it didn't meet the hype. However, many Yelpers mentioned the butterscotch pudding and THAT is the real winner. It was decadently rich and addictive. It came in a small mason jar. I could have eaten 10 of these without regret (until later that evening or the next morning). That is the stuff of dreams truly. Had the pleasure of dining here on a recent day trip out to the GR area. Came away thoroughly impressed with the overall experience. Located in a great part of town (hop over to Brewery Vivant for drinks after), loved the look and feel of the place. Classy but comfortable. Huge menu with a variety of sized portions. You can opt for the 3 course 35 dollar tasting menu as well with slightly smaller portions. Ended up getting the following: Fried green tomatoes with bacon and a roasted garlic aioli. Probably my favorite fried green tomatoes dish of all time. And I just got back from Charleston... Potato gnocchi with braised rabbit and beets. Very tasty. Seemed to be a common theme with a lot of the dishes with the beets and turnips making an appearance on nearly every plate as well as a sort of autumn spiced broth. Delicious veg, but got a little repetitive. Heirloom tomato salad w/ (again) beets. Good, fresh tasty salad. Lamb t-bone with summer ratatouille. Miniscule amount of lamb for a 32 dollar entree but it was properly cooked and delicious. Ratatouille was immensely flavorful. Fantastic. Had the butterscoth pudding for dessert which was a very good riff on a modern classic. Service and wine list were excellent. Plating is artistic and modern without losing the base flavors of the dish. Would certainly make my way out here again on my next trip to the area. 4.5 stars if I could. read more

This place is just OK. While all the food came out beautiful and presented well, it all fell flat. Gnocchi was almost unpalatable. Steak was cold. Everything just missed the mark, even the service, which was actually more disappointing than the food. I'm not sure we will be trying this place again even though we really wanted to like it and include it in the rotation of our regular spots. read more

We've been to the Grove (formerly Corez) twice. The first time, we tried the Tasting Menu and the second time ordered the regular menu items. The restaurant is across the street from the Green Well and is also owned by Essence Group. Parking can be a little interesting because the lot adjacent to the building is actually for another restaurant. But, there is usually space on the street. Our maiden voyage to visit one of Grand Rapids' newest restaurant offerings was quite delightful! For starters, the Tasting Menu is an awesome value. Yes, the portion sizes are smaller, but after 4 courses including appetizer and dessert, we left with satisfied tummies. And all for $25 INCLUDING drinks. Ummm, about the drinks...they do not have a liquor license although, they were expecting one to arrive fairly soon. So to compensate, they've created a variety of really interesting drink specials (sans alcohol) which are a part of the Tasting Menu. Nice touch! During our second visit, we ordered off the regular menu. Note: many items on the Tasting Menu are actually the same as the regular menu - the portion sizes are simply smaller. Once again...food & service hit the mark. I like the fact that they use local sources for many menu items. The food plating is very creative. It's the sort of spot where you know that someone in the kitchen enjoys what they're doing! read more

My husband and I came to Grove for our anniversary date and we loved it! The fresh pesto pasta was to die for and the salmon was cooked perfectly. We had a delicious shrimp bisque soup and lobster hush puppies that we also really enjoyed. We didn't have room for dessert but they packed us a to go eclair cake that we had later that night and it was a beautiful dessert we could not get enough of. Our service was great and I give kudos to the chef for coming up with such fresh dishes. read more

Hands down the best dinner we had in Grand Rapids, even though our eyes were a bit bigger than our stomachs. Had the pierogis, crab wonton, bolognese, and some excellent cocktails. And the people there were lovely; we showed up an hour early for our reservation (an unfortunate time difference mishap) and they fit us in no problem. Would definitely come back! read more

Grove was definitely an experience I'm glad to have had. I made a reservation for a Tuesday evening at 7 which I expected to need but they were pretty slow that night so we were sat immediately. Our server was pleasant, friendly and chirpy. We gave her our wine order and then quickly moved on to the apps. The oyster Po' Boy, the fresh mozzarella with baguette, and their hushpuppies. The three came on one single plate and we enjoyed them all. The hushpuppies were fantastic as was the mozz...I'd recommend trying them together. The Po' Boy was a nice surprise but a little difficult to share seeing how it's stacked layers and the filling tended to shoot out the side while dividing, a solid dish though. For the entrees I had to try the tasting menu. Honestly they had pages of good stuff to try so the tasting menu was the only direction that made sense unless you're a regular and you've found your favorite already. The Shrimp and Grits with a herbaceous drizzle around the main components was very nice. I liked it but I didn't love it. The shrimp was perfect though and the grits were creamy. Onto the beet salad which was cool and refreshing and very flavorful. Beets aren't something I have in my wheelhouse at home yet, but I need to change that. This was a really nice dish to prep for the main course. The Duck Confit and Spaetzle was by far and away my favorite part of the meal. The duck was unctuous and flavorful from the pan sauce the noodles were sautéed in and it absorbed a lot of the liquid making it almost taste braised. The spaetzle was boiled and then pan fired and while it was good I'm still partial to my family's recipe. These were more akin to dumpling nuggets almost like small gnocchi rather than thinner pillowy noodles...however, still wonderful and delicious. My only complaint was the portion size. I know I requested the tasting menu and with that you run the risk of smaller portions often leaving a little hungry...I did and it bummed me out, but mostly because I wanted more of the tasty plates they made. A little more food would've went a long way but so it goes with spots like this one. The ambiance is modern and elegant without being overly pretentious and for its locale it fits in well with the surrounding boutiques and chic businesses. The service was top notch and they even have a crumb waiter to scrape away any unwanted scwabble from your place setting but they scraped it onto the floor rather than into a napkin or hand....that shouldn't happen, it's a little low class. All that aside, plate presentation was beautiful and eye catching and I'm looking forward to returning for what I'm hoping will be another great evening. read more

Very nice place. Reservations book fast, so book early, we were seated promply and on time as reserved. The waitstaff was very professional, helpful and friendly. The food was absolutely amazing. They have a separate vegan menu that I ordered from, mouth watering! read more

What an unexpected gem. I would expect to find this restaurant in Chicago or Indy though if it were in either place you could double the prices and still have a winner. Do yourself a favor and get the taste of Grove - 4 outstanding courses under $50. Nothing we ate was anything short of amazing. The salmon with buckwheat crepe, whitefish and beet salad were our favorites of the night, though it was tough choosing. The sea salt chocolate fudge thing was awesome as well. They also have a very nice wine list. Can't wait to come back here again and try some different options. read more

If it's your first time here you have to try the 3 course meal. You get a little bit of everything. My favorite is the noodles with pea & scallops!!! Sooo delish!! They do not go light on the shots either! :) read more
