One of the best dining experiences of my life. Perfectly warm lit ambiance. Authentically friendly and welcoming service from all waitstaff and host. Our server, Katelyn was beyond fantastic and happy to make recommendations. Extremely genuine and the perfect amount of attentive. She added to our evening rather than detract from it, which isn't always easy to come by. Now for the shining quality of this Grand Rapids gem; the food. Every bite of every dish that we each took was stellar. An ever changing, seasonal menu put together by those whom obviously have a passion for their art. My boyfriend's capellini pasta was incredible and the pork tenderloin I ordered was accompanied by vegetables and an apple mostarda that complimented each other so well that I've been thinking about it for days. If every other place in Grand Rapids is crap, then The Grove would still be worth it to visit GR. The Chef here is creative, knowledgeable, and bold with the dishes. We recently went to the Grove for our anniversary. We really like the Green Well and thought Bistro Bella Vita was pretty good when we last went so were anxious to try the Grove. We weren't disappointed. The food was VERY good. We started with apps and order the Banh Mi and Crispy Knefla 'Carbonara' . Both were extremely good. For entrees we ordered the S&S Lamb T-Bones and Seared Sea Scallops. Again no complaints at all. For desert we ordered a dark chocolate cake and raspberry desert. Both were very good. The restaurant is a little small. We were seated at a table that was positioned at the back wall so one side was a long bench. In my opinion, the tables are a little too close together. I understand they want to fill as many tables as possible but it was kind of uncomfortable sitting that close to strangers. Its not a very "intimate" setting. Also, because the tables are so close together there isn't much room for the servers to stand so it gets a little crowded. Also, I thought for how pricey it was the portion size was a little small. I don't want to leave a restaurant stuffed full and uncomfortable but I don't want to leave hungry either. I left a little hungry. We have tried most of the "nice" restaurants in GR and this would rank right up there in the top 3. Even with my couple of complaints we would defiantly go back and recommend it to family and friends. read more

I have had the benefit from my job of being able to eat at some very nice restaurants around the country. Grove is one of the best places I have ever had the pleasure of dining. We all tried the sampler option and everything we ordered was amazing. Do yourself a favor and visit Grove...the best restaurant I have found in West Michigan. Lovely restaurant, superb service and really delightful, interesting farm to table repast. This restaurant is worth driving to Grand Rapids for an overnight stay or stopping on your way to Startford or elsewhere. Lauren took care of our service this evening, and was gracious, friendly and very knowledgeable. The atmosphere is prairie style with a little avante garde look. And all courses of food excellent, vegetables, sauces, meats, fishes and deserts. Defiantly worth a stop...which we will do again in a few days on our way back from Canada. read more

My fiance and I came here for our anniversary and it was probably the best experience we have had at a restaurant. I can't find the pictures I took of our food, but it all looked as good as it tasted! Our waitress and the manager were both fun to talk to and the manager actually comped us a tomato tart to try after we ordered because she said it was her favorite.. it ended up being my favorite part of the meal! I loved the 3 course option. The beet salad and ramen with braised beef was fantastic. My only complaint is the beef strip serving size was ridiculously small.... Amazing food, on par with the best restaurants that Chicago and other large metropolitan cities have to offer. It's been our go-to for dates, celebrations (anniversaries, "last meal" before baby, etc.), and just "Hey, it's Wednesday let's go have a fantastic dinner." Service is always impeccable, wine and drink menu is extensive. Phenomenal atmosphere. The shrimp & grits is delectable. But CALL for reservations in advance. A lot of times the bar is open for seating if there isn't an available table - but not always the case. Edited to add - if it's a special occasion, tell them. We've always been treated to an amuse-bouche, dessert (the butterscotch pudding really is delectable), or drink on the house while celebrating big things out with them, and never expect it. They cater extremely well to allergies and vegetarian/vegan options. They'll explain anything on the menu you don't understand, or haven't been exposed to. Almost everything is locally sourced and fresh. It's our go-to for showing off the city to anyone who visits us from out of town. The cucumber cooler drink is also amazing. And they were wonderful coming up with all kinds of nonalcoholic options while I was pregnant. Their three course meal option is a fantastic value for what you get. read more

When my friend and I arrived, there was a congrats card on our table and we received a champagne toast to celebrate! Grove has the formula down. A beautiful interior that is comfortable yet contemporary. Excellent service on all levels from the bar tenders to the servers and a wonderfully creative and delicious menu. Each time I go to Grove I have an amazing meal that I cannot say enough about. The 3 courses for $30- is such an exciting option. I had the chicken liver tacos, the kimchee stew and the skate wing. All three are amazing and the best part is that I was able to have all of them making it much easier to decide. By far one of the best dining establishments around Grand Rapids. read more

My wife and I enjoyed our first visit to Grove over the weekend where we enjoyed an incredible meal with friends and family. We both indulged in the 3 course meal for $35, and every course was perfect. The Cauliflower Risotto was by far some of the best risotto I have ever eaten and the Jambalaya was prepared perfectly, I had to pass it around the table. We also enjoyed some of the best service I have ever received. From the time we were greeted until we left, the staff was knowledgeable, personable and incredibly prompt. The tasting menu with best available wine is the way to go! My new partner and I came here for our wedding dinner, and they made it special. The service was great, and the food/wine pairings were phenomenal. The one downside is that we felt rushed, as the courses and wine came out so fast. At one point we had 6 glasses of wine on the table and four dishes. It was a bit overwhelming, and we just decided to take the last entree to-go because it was all moving so fast and I got a stomachache trying to keep up. But that is the only reason, I didn't give a five star review. I would still go again! read more

My husband and I checked out Grove last night, and really enjoyed the whole experience. We arrived around 6 (on a Sat. night) planning to wait atleast an hour for outdoor seating. Knowing that, we grabbed a drink in the bar and had pleasant conversation with the bartenders. I had a Mint Julep (Kentucky Derby was on) that was delicious. Not too sweet, not too boozy. Just right. Surprisingly, we were seated within 20 minutes. The outdoor seating was perfect. More drinks were ordered and out waitress explained the menu. There are so many things offered, but it sounds like they change daily. We chose to do the 3 course for $33 so we could try 6 different plates. Everything we had was so delicious, and there was more than enough for both of us. The dish that stands out was the Lamb ragu. Sweet and savory. I didn't think I was a fan of grits, but the Shrimp and Grits has made me a believer. The kimchi soup was so different than anything I've tried before. Really, you cannot go wrong with whatever you order. Great drinks..delicious dinner..beautiful atmosphere..Couldn't have asked for a better evening. read more

We had a terrific experience at Grove -- and interestingly it was in large part due a mistake in the kitchen. To start, we did the $30 tasting menu, which is a fine deal, and really fun if you're there with a willing partner -- it's almost like having tapas plus, as you'll get to try six different things. The serving sizes are quite generous given the price, and while we didn't love all our choices, each was well-prepared, presented with attention to detail, and most of them were delicious. Well worth it. The "problem" came when our third course was due out -- and it took a very, very long time. But here's the thing -- the chef and waiter caught the delay without us ever having to ask about it. We were preemptively comped on two glasses of wine ($20 value), and then, at the end of the meal, asked to choose two free desserts (probably about $16). This without us asking, without us complaining ... all preemptively. With a smile, a "we're sorry," and a "can we do anything else to make this right?" SO MANY TIMES we've been to places where we have had the opposite experience (Salt of the Earth in Fennville, to name one). More often than not when there's a problem, it's never acknowledged, we end up having to ask -- and the response is defensive, there's rarely an effort to make good, and the words "I'm sorry" apparently are not in the servers' training manual. Restaurants everywhere: LEARN FROM GROVE. When you mess up, say you're sorry, pour an extra glass of wine, ply us with chocolate desserts. You'll get bigger tips, nicer reviews, more people will come, and you'll make back that wine/dessert in no time flat. We'll be back next time we're in GR. read more

This place is very nice. We went for a business dinner here. The atmosphere is cozy. It was a little more small than what we expected. As a warning, it is VERY loud in here. Probably a poor choice for a business meeting, but we didn't know. We were quickly greeted and seated. They have a short, but nice, list of alcoholic beverages. I was surprised to see some uniques choices on it, which is a good thing. We started with the yellowfin crudo as a appetizer. It is flavored with sesame seeds and vinegar. It is tasty but I do feel that for the price it is quite on the small side. The salads came next and these were quite good. They come with a fried egg on top which was a nice touch. For dinner, I had the lamb T-bones. There were actually quite delicious. The chipotle creme is a nice touch. The black bean rice, however, was undercooked. It was very hard and even crunchy at times. Overall, it seems to be a good restaurant. I would return to have a meal here again. read more

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary here and loved the grove. Even during busy restaurant week! To add another echo to what other's have said: absolutely scrumptious farm-to-table dining. Generous portions of well-plated food for the price. For starters, I had the tomato corn soup: just enough spice to balance out the charred roasted corn and earthy tomato, yum! My husband had the pork taco and immediately wished he had ordered more than one. Both perfect size portions. For my entree, I had the restaurant week Orecchiette Carbonara. The sauce was a perfect compliment to the pork belly (think thick little chunks of pork, but rich enough to taste like bacon) and little size pasta bites, with shaved parmesan on top. The cauliflower is green cauliflower and a fun added ingredient. My husband had the strip loin (non-restaurant week selection) and said they cooked it perfectly medium rare. For dessert I had my new favorite: the salted dark chocolate fudge. Don't be mislead by the word fudge - this is presented like a sandwich of two slices of warmed chocolate with a crispy sweet brioche in the middle, all topped with the bourbon syrup and peanut praline. Amazing. I'd go back just for wine and this dessert. I was especially impressed at our server's knowledge and warmness. We felt like our needs were attended to, but he was not overbearing. My only complaint was the atmosphere: I disliked how close the tables were together. I felt sandwiched too close to the other tables. Additionally, the decor is kind of a snooze. The booths and lighting feel like a hotel, very traditional, which doesn't seem to go with the menu. read more

We went last night at 5 pm. Quiet and with plenty of time to have our choices explained. Nathan was our server and was excellent. Professional and friendly. Very experienced and new everything about the food and drink. We couldn't have done better than Nathan. We had 2 cocktails. My wife had Lagavulin scotch and I had the Corpse Reviver. Both excellent. The salmon ceviche was to die for and the pork belly tacos were superb. Chris had the the salmon and I had the duck. The fudge brioche was a perfect finish. A great fine dining experience! My wife and I went here for our anniversary dinner and everything was perfect from start to finish. The staff were incredibly kind and courteous, and seemed to go above and beyond what you would expect to make sure you felt taken care of. We both tried the 3 course Grove sampler and I'm not kidding you when I say every course was better than the one before! The food just kept getting better and better. I was in a food nirvana. Tried again, with gift cards as an incentive. We happily got a booth, and the atmosphere was lovely, as usual. I live that they added valet parking, especially in winter. We couldn't resist the mushroom tart (still fabulous) and the membrillo toast (yes, please). I had a Hemingway cocktail, which was tasty but *very* potent. My husband had General Tso ribs, and we both found them to be tender as could be, but cloyingly sweet. I had the cheese caramel, and it was a GIGANTIC bowl, and delicious too. I'm still not certain where the cheese or caramel was, if it had any of either, or why it was named that, but I'd do it again. Much better experience this time! read more
