If you want timely and professional service do not use home depots contractor GS floor design . Home depot subcontract out and I had the most horrible experience with their floor installer "JP" . This was supposed to be a 1 day job of installing hardwood for a 230sq foot bedroom with closet in a Chicago downtown high rise. My toilet was plugged up as there was too much toilet paper flushed down . It had overflowed and there was moisture on the closet floor that had seeped in. JP said it needed to dry out and to get a dehumidifier. I followed his recommendation got one and left ot on overnight. They (JP and his crew) came back the next day and the area was dry.and the reading green in the hand held moisture indicator. I called home depot who contracts with GS flooring and explained the situation . Home depot told them to go ahead with the installation. However, JP was upset that " I proved him wrong" he started shouting at me in the most unprofessional manner saying that I was lying. He went into the bathroom and flushed the plugged up toilet to prove a point and send the now red moisture readings to the company. He refused to complete the job saying he did me a favor by starting the job in the first place. Now since when does a floor installer diagnose plumbing issue and tell a home owner that there is a leak in the toilet? i had already spoken to the building plumber and engineer and they had diagnosed the issue. As a home owner it is my prerogative to spend my money in repairs I see are appropriate. The floor installers job is to take the humidity readings and if it meets standards finish his job! JPs behavior was like he owned my home and wanted to tell me what I should do. A floor installer should not be looking at my toilet or flushing it when i had told him not to do so!! They left the work unfinished and said I will have to reschedule. Getting this done in a high rise is not that simple. Whatever happened to customer satisfaction? If I could give home depot and GS flooring design 0 stars I would. DO NOT USE THEM or you will be frustrated with being talked down to and treated poorly by a floor installer! Now Robert the owner says this is not a fair representation of what occurred. To add insult to injury this company also does not take responsibility for the rude unprofessional behavior of its contractors! An apology would have been what a decent company would begin with! read more

I wanted to add new floor to my old hardwood floor in the living room and kitchen. I thought it was a simple project. The installers came today and disappeared in just about 20 mins. They didn't bring any tool except a large level tool as if they were not going to do anything else. They had a plan. My thought was right. They claimed that the floors are not level and they cannot do it. The office will call you. I kept waiting for three hours and no one called me. I had to call them instead. A guy on the phone said they will have to remove all my original hardwood floors in order to install vinyl floors. Otherwise they cannot do it. The home depot home measurement consultant came last month to take the measurement and check everything. She said everything should be an easy one day project and the level isn't a big issue. The installer will take care of the leveling preparation work. It turned out to be a nightmare. The leveling scheme might be just a scam to charge customers extra thousands of dollars. Not even mention that I had to carry all the materials myself from the entrance to 3rd floor by stair a day before as home depot only delivered to the entrance. Beside, I had to deal with the HOA and took a day off to expect the work to be done. WHAT A LOUSY IRRESPONSIBLE COMPANY. Now I have to deal with home depot for the rest. DON'T use Home Depot flooring installation service, at least in IL, because GS Floor will be the only company they contracted to rip you off. read more

GS floor was rough scheduling initially with problems with an employee calling off. we were rescheduled twice and pushed out a month the first time. we put the trim up ourselves that's why it's not in the picture he did offer to do it. GS Floor Design was a fantastic company with which to work. After selecting our carpeting at Home Depot, a very professional associate came to our home to measure the area where the carpeting would be installed. Kevin arrived on time and was ready to go. He was able to answer any question that was posed. Not long after that measuring day, we received a call from GS stating that the carpeting was in and could be installed. It was not a problem to hold off until the room was painted. We called back weeks later to say we were ready for our new carpeting. A convenient date was chosen. We ordered carpet for a room and went back to Home Depot where we bought carpet for much of our home. They are knowledgeable and help you find the right product. The quality is excellent and the first carpeting is almost 4 years old but still looks new. The installers are efficient and polite.
