My discovery of Guacamole via Yelp is a reminder to use the app more. I would have never found this place otherwise. It is a smaller/locally owned take on the Chipotle/Qdoba model with a bigger variety of meat options. I tried the Mexican Plate (aka burrito bowl) with rice, black beans, 1/2 carne asada, 1/2 chicken (forgot the name already), hot + medium salsas, guac ($2.80 extra), cilantro, onion, and jalapeno (fresh!). Everything was well seasoned, fresh and delicious. The guacamole was very tasty and well worth the $2.80. The staff was friendly (albeit a big disorganized). My friend got the chips and mild salsa. The chips were deliciously salty. The mild salsa was a let down. It didn't seem to be seasoned at all. There was an extensive selection of hot sauces - Cholula + El Yucateco. They also had a few varieties of agua fresca. I chose the bottled pineapple cider instead - bad call....it tasted like neither cider nor pineapple (but it is just a standard bottled beverage - not something they make). The restaurant space is tiny and can maybe seat 20 at most across 6-7 tables. Keep that in mind if you are considering going during lunch rush or with a large party. Honestly, this is the best locally owned version of Chipotle/Qdoba I have eaten at in Rochester and I will make the drive out here for my next faux Mexican fix. read more

Guacamole is an awesome little spot that tries to mimic the steps of creating your meal like a chipotle or a moe's would. However... their product is entirely different! Not a fan. First of all they don't offer any IPA beers which I find interesting since we blew them right here locally. The food is mediocre at best. I ordered the burrito one of the sides was guacamole. The burrito was dry with absolutely no sauce on it there were a few pieces of chicken in there but it was 3/4 rice and the guacamole instead of being on top was lost and buried on the inside of the burrito.. I have to be honest, I usually avoid Mexican food from restaurants around here because the food is frankly mediocre at best. The establishments I've patronized in the area are not willing to go out in the prep work for toppings and fresh ingredients and have much more of an Americanized Tex-Mex fare. Traditional Mexican food uses chile peppers, cacao, oregano, epazote, and cilantro are solid foundational ingredients. The kicker is making excellent Mexican food is the use of the al pastor. Any place that doesn't have it or understands the importance is wasting their time and the time of potential patrons. Big fancy Margaritas really don't impress me the food does. Guacamole Authentic Mexican Taqueria offerings were the best traditional style Mexican street food I had in a very long time. I usually skip the rice and beans filler because I want to savor the marinated al pastor pork on it's trompo (revolving spit).The al pastor meat spinning on a trompo is popularly capped with pineapple and rests on an onion. From what I tasted in the al pastor burrito was spot on. I tasted the flavor palate that uses traditional Mexican marinate adobada and the spikes of heat, patches of char, citrus pep here and there. Cotija cheese was a plus. Really impressive. Kudos to the owner who is trying to replicate traditional street food. I was fortunate to talk to the owner with my food to go. He was cordial and a genuine gentleman. I wished him continued success. I really would like an option for charred fresh diced pineapples chunks as a topping as al pastor condiments I would have waited for that. My wife loved her Pollo a La Parilla burrito loved how it was flavored and grilled. Portions are great. This place checks all the boxes for traditional Mexican street food: The Trompo, fresh ingredients, and great marinade for the pork. Now if I can convince him to make Tacos De Tripitas. I got a burrito with Achiote/citrus spiced pork & it was awesome. I usually go for chicken or shredded beef when we get Mexican, but the pork jumped off the menu. The salsa & chips was cool too. A paper bag of what I assume are store-fried chips with some salsa with a little different (slightly smoky) taste. It was not the same old cilantro-heavy pico that you get @ a lot of places. Being from Socal the bar is high for Mexican food. This place basically takes the chipotle style of service - exactly the same process. Was the food traditional? Nope Was it ok? Yup Will I be back? Specializing in tacos, this place is very similar to a chipotle. I purchased steak tacos and churros. The rating is just based on the restaurants claim of authenticity toward Mexican food. To make it more authentic, I would suggest the restaurant going a skirt steak route for the "carne asada" tacos, it's additionally possible to cut costs in that area since skirt steak doesn't typically cost much (at least where I'm from, Chicago). Updating because I buy the same thing (chicken bowl) from here several times a month & I feel like the value & quality have decreased. The rice used to be amazing and now it's usually bland. Initially the bowls (to-go) were piled to the brim but now I have had several 1/2 full. Also, straight up raw peppers and onions? Additionally, the amount of chicken has slowly dwindled to most recently, nothing. They are rectifying the mishap but take no responsibility. I have no complaints! I grew up in CA and my expectations on good Mexican food is very high. Although there isn't a place that can get the authenticity down 100%, this is the best I've seen yet! They have traditional meats (carne asada, adobada) and the rest of the sides are good as well. But more than the food, the thing that won me over was the customer service. They have staff that are genuinely interested in your dining experience and try to make sure customers are happy. To break it down, this place is a more authentic chipotle. Quick stop for dinner after a show, based on Yelp reviews. This is a little hole in the wall where you order at the counter. Very friendly, helpful staff. Service was fast and they were doing good business. The restroom was surprisingly clean and updated. The food was good, but I can't say overwhelmingly so. Maybe my expectations were too high based on other reviews. The sour cream gets squirted out of a bottle so it was really thin, which was a not so great a top-off to our nachos. My kids have been clamoring for Guacamole ever since the first time we tried them back in August, so last weekend we decided to get takeout. It could hardly have been a more disappointing experience. They completely left out one of the four meals, and made a lame excuse when the BF went back -- the woman said she didn't hear that part of the order because she was standing under a noisy fan (yet she heard me well enough on the phone, since she asked me questions about that meal and then repeated the order back to me). They were nice enough to comp that order, but the replacement tacos were barely warm, and of course by the time we all sat down to eat, we had to heat up everyone else's meals, too. Sadly, the food quality didn't make up for the inconvenience and poor service. The burritos were lackluster at best -- mine was dry (and they forgot the cheese), and everything else was just subpar. Maybe it was an off night, because our two experiences were so vastly different -- but I'm not sure we'll give Guacamole a third chance. read more

In a word....disappointing. My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday. It was sweltering outside and I hoped it would be cooler inside but no such luck. Yes, yes I realize there is an avocado shortage going on but I was just in wegmans and they had a boat load of them in produce! So people please, if you run a restaurant with Guacamole as your name, make a wegmans run if your distributor runs out! Guacamole aside, my tacos were good. The burrito was quite large. My boyfriend enjoyed it. The mild salsa was a bit bland and the medium salsa was a bit too sweet for me. It had an interesting sweet and spicy combination but too much sweet for my taste. Our order came to just under $25 which seemed standard. The staff seemed nice enough. To sum it up, decent food but nothing to go out of your way for. Like in my review of La Casa in downtown Rochester, authentic Mexican food is hard to find in the 585. I heard Guacamole opened in ER from some family members and I would occasionally drive by it. I only knew the location because it used to be Mac's Philly Steaks. The first time I went it was in the summer. Parking is easy to find but I was a bit overwhelmed at first by how hot it was inside the place. I think the heat was based off low circulation and the meat being grilled in the back. This isn't a game changer by any means but you may have to eat your food at home if you don't want to sweat. Anyway, Guacamole is set up like Chipotle's and Moe's. It's a cafeteria style order line where you pick your meats, and toppings as you move down. I was pleased by the meat choices since franchise chains like Chipotle, Moe's, Qdoba etc. really lack in flavorful authentic Mexican meats. My go-to is the three tacos (corn tortilla). Portion size is good for the price especially if you want to be full under or around the $10 range. I did try the Guacamole one time and it's decent. The food is definitely fresh however the Guacamole lacked salt and zest. It may have been an off day but I prefer the Guacamole at Chipotle. Overall, Guacamole is an affordable easy option for those searching for authentic Mexican food without traveling all the way down to the city. My rating hovers between a 3.5-4 but I give the edge for 4 stars because of the value. read more

I grabbed some takeout from here and it was a great experience! I wish they were open a bit later since I work late but I called in my order to have it ready just as the closed which made me feel like a jerk but they were great about it! I got there at 8:01 and they were very kind about my tardiness. The girl on the phone helped me through my order since it was my first time. It is similar to a Moe's/chipotle/qdoba ordering style where it's down the line, tell them what you want, and they make it for you to your customization. I ordered a bowl with beef and salsa for my friend and a torta for myself which I've never had before but have always been curious. Both were GREAT! The beef was delicious and it was a nice sized portion for the bowl. I ordered the torta with cochinita which she recommended and it was a great choice. It was pretty huge and super filling and delish. Did not disappoint. I also ordered a side of chips with guacamole and I do wish the guacamole had a bit more flavor but it was not awful. Came in for lunch with DH. We each had tacos, mine with the al pastor and his with cochinita pibil (and of course we shared). The pibil was def my favorite. So much so I made my own version at home! You get 3 tacos which is a great deal for the price. The owner was there and even though they were quite busy had time to chat with us. He gave us a small sampling of each of the other meats to try. The steak was pretty spicy in a good way. Chicken had a great lime flavor that you don't usually notice with other lime marinated chicken. The ground beef was really good - don't go into it thinking you're getting Taco Bell meat or grocery store taco seasoning packet. The flavor was so much more! We tried the medium salsa which was good but next time we'll get the hot since we like more spice. Guac was obviously yum! Churros for dessert (yes by this point we were stuffed to the seams)! Comes with caramel for dipping. Melted chocolate would also be a good addition (hint, hint). They have a good beer selection considering the size. And also have Mexican sodas. read more

The best way I can explain the restaurant is like an authentic Mexican version of Chipotle.
