First time trying Los Tres Amigos inside, I've had takeout before and I enjoyed it. We were seated pretty quickly. However, after ordering food it took quite a while for the food to come out and the majority of the food was a beef burrito covered with queso. So I'm not sure why it took so long. The queso was good and the salsa was just ok. Inside there are booths and tables, so plenty of seating. They could make some updates. It's worth a try if you're in the area. read more

I'm quite unsure why los tres has such low reviews, I've been going to this spot since I moved to Iowa back in 2018 and they've always managed to keep everything the same (in an amazing way). The salsa and chips are delightful and I love the texture of the salsa. The rice and beans are amazing (I'm vegetarian so my options are limited), and importantly, the service is also great. I've always found them to be very kind, understanding, and hospitable people. read more

Had planned to eat at Shanghai per a friend's recommendation, but they were short staff and had a wait so we thought we would try Los Tres Amigos instead. We were seated quickly even though the restaurant was pretty full and thought their chips and salsa were good (see picture). I was not impressed with their Paloma. It was served in a tap beer glass, didn't have Tajìn on the rim (only very light salt) and didn't taste that good. We later asked how it was made and apparently they use lime juice and Squirt...my preference includes grapefruit juice and soda water or Fresca. My wife enjoyed her Carnitas Dinner (see picture) and the flavor was good in my Los Tres Amigos (see picture), but I was disappointed with how thin and tough the steak and chicken were. My family got take out and our meals were the worst we've had from this restaurant. It has went downhill terribly. My son's tortillas were moldy so I can't imagine what we ate and didn't see since ours were covered in sauce. We did throw most of the food away. I called to talk to a manager but the lady said he was unable to come to the phone. She did not seem surprised when I told her my issue. She kept stating that she could "give me more tacos" and I told her no thank you. She took my number but I never received a call from the manager. read more

This was my first time at this particular restaurant, they were always coming around to make sure we had drinks and that the food was good, the salsa wasn't very chunky but it was still very good. The portions were very good. The only downfall of this restaurant was the lettuce and cheese in the taco tasted like it wasn't very fresh. Good food, warm inside, good drinks. Normally have good service but recently one of their waiters who has served us twice has been rude, doesn't let us finish a sentence when ordering, and says "one second" walks away and doesn't ever come back. We gave him grace the first time thinking maybe he was having a bad day. Now we are here again, he is still being rude, doesn't let us finish our sentences, and never comes back. Food was not good. Beans tasted like they were burnt. Ordered fajitas with shrimp, steak, and chicken...no flavor at all. Older kids ordered grande burritos and both said it was horrible. Ok, mole sauce is made from chocolate and should scream spicy. There's is runny and bland. Too watered down. The chicken was over cooked and rubbery. Tasted bland. Came with rice and beans. Hard to screw them up. Food is fast and cheep. In and out in 30 minutes. So long as you don't set your expectations too high it will be fine. The menu looked like it had plenty of choices and we looked forward to an authentic Mexican meal last night. It was terrible. The food had no flavor at all. None. Zip. Nada. I had the steak fajitas and they were barely warm. No sizzle. The rice was dry and flavorless as well. We were told that the salsa was medium hot but it too was blander the mildest I'd ever tasted. It was like a watery tomato paste from a can. The whole meal was flavorless, as if they had no idea what adobo seasoning was. Looking at several of the 5 star ratings and comments afterwards, we wondered whether we had just come on a bad night for the kitchen staff or if the patrons that posted their reviews were phony, posted by employees of the restaurant to boost the ratings or if those patrons just had never tasted authentic Mexican food. The food is great and the drinks are cheap however our waiter acted as if we were a burden, there was 4 of us we ordered food and drinks and everything time we asked for another drink he got annoyed. At one point he brought us the check without asking before if we needed anything else, so when we said we wanted another round of margaritas he looked at us for a while then walked off annoyed. We spent a lot of money and just wanted a good experience since that was one of our 1st times going out in a long time, we were sad because we needed a good experience and got an angry waiter who didn't want to be there. read more

Stopped in for lunch on Sunday, and it was just ok. It isn't my regular spot for Mexican, so the natural tendency is to compare and contrast with what I know and love... so here we go: Chips and salsa are not memorable, but were fine. Pretty quick to bring our drinks and take the food orders, and the menu has plenty of options. Then things ground to a very odd halt. Usually we find Mexican restaurants are quick to bring the food, but for whatever reason this took about 15 minutes which seemed strangely long. When it did arrive, everything was as expected and tasted (again, I'll use this word) fine. Prices are fair and honestly it's an ok spot. I wouldn't crave it, but I also wouldn't throw a fit if somebody wanted to go there. It is, quite simply, fine. One oddity worth mentioning though - I felt like some jalapenos and assumed (oops) that ordering a side of them would be the usual Mexican pickled peppers with some carrots, onions, and cauliflower. Instead, I received what I can only assume were slices of jalapeno peppers from a can. In hindsight, I should have asked for a side of chiles toreados, which they appear to have or at least another review shows a photo of one. read more

I love their chips and salsa. The margaritas are tasty also. I ordered one of the enchilada platters for dinner and the kids got the tacos. The food came out fast and was served hot. The down side is the lack of flavor in the tacos and I wish rice was served with the enchiladas. Food is priced right but just a little tasteless for me. read more
