I chose Guadalajara because I had previously tried their food truck at an event and really enjoyed the food. For Mother's Day, my 17-year-old son wanted to do something nice for me and took me there with my other kid and my mother. Unfortunately, the experience was awful from the moment we walked in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was completely dead with barely any customers, and the woman working the front register looked irritated that we were even there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She was unfriendly, rude, rushed us while ordering, and made us feel like we were bothering her the entire time. While ordering, we noticed there were no cooks in the kitchen. After we placed our order, she told us they were "running behind" because there were no cooks available. She also got part of our order wrong, specifically the type of meat we requested. When we politely questioned it after seeing the receipt, she immediately became defensive and insisted we ordered it that way, which we absolutely did not. She eventually said she would fix it before the food came out. The problems continued after that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathroom had no toilet paper, there were no napkins or utensils available anywhere in the restaurant, and every time we had to ask her for something she acted irritated and inconvenienced.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When my food finally arrived, it was extremely spicy. When I asked why, she claimed I had personally requested it extra spicy, which never happened. At that point it became obvious she had rushed through our order and was not listening to anything we were actually asking for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming the entire time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My mother even went to get napkins from the car because she did not want to "bother" the cashier again due to how rude she was acting. I felt terrible because my son had good intentions bringing me here for Mother's Day, and he honestly felt bad afterward for recommending the restaurant. I appreciated his thoughtfulness, but sadly this experience completely ruined what should have been a nice family meal. I will never return here, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Whether this woman is the owner, a family member, or an employee, management needs to understand that this level of customer service drives people away. Word of mouth matters, and customer service can absolutely ruin a restaurant no matter how good the food may once have been. One star. read more

Tucked in Old Town Antioch among barbershops, antique stores, and coffee shops, this spot is a true gem. Parking was easy (pulled right up around 3PM on a Saturday), which was a nice start. We came from the flea market and my daughter was craving tacos. To my surprise, we found Guadalajara. Not sure if it's tied to the popular SF one, but the food definitely reminded me of it. I ordered to go, my food was ready in 10 minutes, the price was a bargain for a super burrito, compared to other restaurants in the area. I got a super burrito of Barbacoa (Birria) it came with 2 salsas (green and red) the red was super good, spicy tho. Liz helped me she was polite and friendly, I almost forgot to pay because I got distracted but she reminded me I owe her money in a very graceful way. I would of giving them 5 stars, because on service, location, clean restaurant ,food flavor and presentation they are a 5, however my burrito was cold inside , the cheese was not melted and it was very cold except the meat, I'm thinking maybe the sour cream and guacamole (that looked like plain avocado) made it cold , I ate it within 10 minutes from picking it up. I'm only making this because the birria pizza was just sad and horrible, first off looks noting like the picture. It's flat, no meat, more tortilla than anything. Second they put 2 nasty dirty consome cups on top of the pizza and it left a bunch of holes which is disgusting and unsanitary. We usually order to go but their little spot is nice, clean tables & comfy atmosphere. They also have a good self serve salsa bar, the green one is gooood . Their chips and guac are big & fresh. Food is always a hit. I've tried a few different items and the taco salad is one of my favorites.

I haven't travelled to San Francisco since last March. A large part of that was obviously due to the pandemic but a larger part was due to sheer laziness. The best burrito I personally had in the Bay Area was El Farolito in the Mission District. Apparently, it got extremely mainstream and cool to eat there at some point but it wasn't as filled with tourists when I first had it. But as much as I love El Farolito, not even I can justify going from Antioch to the city for just that. BART is still as expensive as it's ever going to be and driving to and finding parking in the Mission District sounds like an actual nightmare. So I settled for trying to look for a place in the East Bay that could fill the gaping hole in my heart that was once occupied by El Farolito's chorizo super burrito. And for awhile, it was filled by the El Farolito branch in Concord until that too fell victim to the pandemic and closed down. Since then, I had long given up on finding a local burrito place that could make me happy. Most of the places to get a burrito around Antioch charge El Farolito prices (or shockingly higher) but don't give you El Farolito size or quality. My hopes were brought up though when the Yelp algorithm suggested Guadalajara Taqueria to me. The photos on the page showed me food and menu prices that were somewhat comparable to the taqueria I loved so much and Guadalajara was only about a 10 minute drive from my house. So I figured I'd check it out. Before I continue, I want to preface my actual review by saying that because El Farolito was the first Bay Area taqueria I'd ever eaten at, that is more or less the bar against which I base my burrito experiences. Is that fair? Can that even be considered a credible scoring criteria? NOPE. Anyway, the first thing that struck me when I entered was that since there was no set up for in door dining, there was more than ample room to socially distance if need be. Folks that are a stickler for safety can rest assured of that when coming here and waiting for their food. There were no customers other than me when I arrived but I noticed at least a few others eventually come in to pick up orders placed ahead of time. So for those taking notes, you can either order takeout on the spot or order ahead for pick up. I ordered the chorizo super burrito (my usual at El Farolito) and a carnitas super quesadilla. Order was put in, and I was out in about five or so minutes. The super burrito was about the same size as its El Farolito counterpart and the price was comparable as well. But what really set this apart was the fact that it was nowhere NEAR as greasy as the El Farolito super burrito despite it being filled with chorizo, which is normally greasy and fatty. I didn't feel like total garbage after I finished it and actually thought it tasted really good. Unfortunately, I wasn't as big a fan of the carnitas super quesadilla. Again, it was a generous size with a comparable price tag to El Farolito. And again, unlike El Farolito, it wasn't greasy to all hell. But the meat was dry for me and chewier than I'd like. Wasn't a big fan of that but it wasn't enough of a turnoff to make me not order another super quesadilla but with a different meat next time. So have I finally found my local El Farolito replacement here at Guadalajara Taqueria? Yeah, I think I might have. Price and quality is comparable and it doesn't come with the added cost of taking BART or expending gas to drive to SF and back. Was it the best burrito I ever had? Nope, but it might've been the best one I've had in Antioch so far. Granted, that's not exactly a high bar - one would argue, a bar below the floor in hell - but I would still happily come back here. I think what would make this place even better for me is if they had breakfast burritos. One of my favorite things to order at El Farolito was their breakfast burrito, which was essentially their chorizo super burrito but with eggs. Unfortunately, Guadalajara Taqueria does not have this on their menu unless there's a secret menu they're not telling us about (which would be kinda cool, actually). So sadly, this place does not 100% have everything I want in a very local burrito place but it's very close. And that's not a bad thing. read more

THIS REVIEW IS STRICTLY FOR THEIR BIRRIA TACOS ONLY! I have been on a quest for birria tacos as they have been trending and my stomach has been dying in crave to find the best one and try them all! I've had about 3 different spots so far and this is by far the best one I've had! The cheese in these tacos are so fire with the tender and juicy carne asada! Not to mention the consume dipping sauce is so juicy and delish! you can tell they def boiled and cooked that ,meat in the broth/sauce when you dip your tacos in the consume! These tacos were so delish and filling! I totally wish they had a location closer to me and int he bay area! I also had an order of the mango fresa to go with my order of birra tacos. I ordered 2 quesabirrias w/ beef & dip and they were the best I've had in a long time!! The meat, cheese, cilantro, onions, lime, dip= perfection! Also ordered a Jamaica drink and it did not disappoint. Flavorful and quenched my thirst. Service was great as well! The taquweia was also decorated very nicely with a touch of Christmas decor. This place has been my favorite since they opened. I have tried just about everything on their menu. I mainly order their tacos both soft and crunchy (I prefer soft all the time) in Carnitas, Chicken, Tripa, Asada and Pastor. The meats are very well seasoned and juicy. I have recently tried their Quesabirria tacos with consome and it's to die for!!!! The meat is delicious and juicy. Their meaty fries are also soooooo good and super loaded with toppings, FOR ONLY 9 BUCKS!!!! I live in San Francisco and work here in Antioch, and the prices here are so much cheaper than any other place that I've been to, and we all know how expensive the Bay Area can be. I hardly ever post negative experiences but this one got under my skin, so here I go....... First time trying out this place and had the worst experience at Guadalajara Taqueria . I ordered 3 tacos, 3 quesabirrias & burrito bowl. I got 6 tacos instead. I went back and I tell the girl that my order was wrong, she said let me see...I open the food container and she is able to see that my order was wrong. She wanted to take my order to take it to the back and add cheese. I said, "you can't do that! You can't take the food that has already left your restaurant to the back" she said I know, I'm goin to throw it out (yeah right) I said why not just make my order right. She goes to the back and calls her mom and she too wants to take the food container. I tell her the same thing, she says I need to throw it out. I say, then let me throw it out! So I do. Then she has the audacity to tell me that I just wanted "free food"!! I just shook my head, I said I just want what I ordered and what I paid for. All I was expecting from them, was a you're right ma'am, let me make your order right!!! Simple as that!! I already had a bad experience at another restaurant where I witnessed someone return a food item cause it was wrong order and when I got my food guess who's flauta was 1/2 way eaten. Hello to everyone reading this. I am not into leaving reviews about anything but after my horrible experience eating at this restaurant I felt compelled to share. I ordered from here yesterday for my whole family. The young lady that answered the phone was really agitated because they were busy and I had a couple of questions about what I was ordering. My order was; 1 super burrito (asada), 3 birria tacos w/ broth and 2 asada fries everything on them. The young lady said "I will call you back with your total because we are busy right now." I said "no problem that's fine." About 20 mins passed no call back so I called back and asked for the total it was a little over $42. I had the birria tacos and my husband and kids had the rest. As soon as I finished eating I threw up all the birria tacos and everyone was on a race to the bathroom. I know the food was mishandled because I never ever throw up and now today my whole family still has diarrhea and upset stomach. Please be cautious of ordering from here because they do not use sanitary practices and have terrible customer service. Just a quick update this Jasmine R. After trying several different restaurants in the area, this is hands down my favorite go to for authentic mexican food, specially after learning they're a family owned business. Their birria tacos, quesabirrias and birria noodles are amazing and a must try. My son [12] had the soup [ $17 ] which had no flavor, bland and was super salty [ like a pound of salt was in it ] the color was merely red...looked orangey and not fresh!! The burrito TINY IN SIZE... MY HAND WAS BIGGER!! What a major disappointment for a $13 reg. burrito. The carnitas was good...but it was loaded with rice which had no flavor, the refried beans [ like a tsp ] no flavor [ in my last cpl bites is where it was ], the tortilla wasn't fully cooked and huge. I had more tortilla than the rest of the ingredients in it besides the rice. I felt LIKE I was eating a rice burrito. We were starving so we ate it but left halfway thru OUR MEAL. WE COULDN'T FINISH. Pretty pricey for the type of food they're selling. I work hard for my money and expect the service and quality of the food I'm paying for to be up to par.
