I loved this place and so did my husband and dog! Really liked that there was a long trail by the river. We visited during off season (end of January) so it wasn't busy at all. Not far from San Antonio, but so so peaceful. Definitely will be visiting here a lot more. read more

We came all the way from Houston just to be turned around due to "capacity limits". We were told to wait and we'd be the first ones to come in when ready. We waited 30 mins, heard from no one, and just went back to our hotel. Very disappointing! read more

Although we did not go "toobing" on the Guadalupe River, there were hundreds we could see, all having a great time. The water looked clean. A drive by the river revealed some handsome houses. Some groups tie up together and stay stationary and some float on down the river. That same day, the governor reinstated rules where some businesses could not be open. That included all the rental places. When you went by the river the next day, only people that had their own "toobs" were on the water. Very sad. Depending on summer business and they were closed. We will attempt to "toob" the next time. Definitely worth your time if they are open. And the prices were reasonable. read more

Went to visit today and accidentally drove into a road by mistake, later two park police pull us over and interrogate us and ask why we didn't see the sign that it was closed, well turns out sign had been pulled off to side of road, not easily visible. Police were very rude asking for our license and threatening to ticket us, after paying so much money to get in this is the last thing I expected at a park, never be back there again!! read more

Nice campsites but bathrooms were locked, hiking trails were closed, extra fees were troubling and staff was inhospitable.

This park is well kept and was not too busy when I visited. We saw a few deer, visited the bird watch area, explored camping areas (for next time), walked one of the hiking trails, and sat by the peaceful river. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather (in December) when we explored the park. There was construction going on towards the back end of the park but I was still able to enjoy the scenery. I will absolutely be back to visit again! read more

I love this park, but as a photographer, it'd be nice to have an area to get sunset pictures. Unless I just couldn't find it.

It was great. We were able to get some socially distant sun and play in the fresh water of the Guadalupe River. We got to the park at approximately 9:30 and left at 12:45, and we only came across about 4 other groups. Only problem was the restrooms/changing rooms were under renovations at the time, they did have very clean port-a potty available, but changing was a minor issue. read more

This is a wonderful state park campground and it is kept clean and rustic. The state parks all have trees left natural, the benefit of state parks. It is shameful that some people have to have a rig as big as a house and expect campgrounds to accommodate them by trimming all the trees severely for their entry. If they want a barren campground, this is not it, go to one of those private campgrounds w no trees, meant for giant rigs. Leave the trees natural, no trimming is needed. Limit the size of rig that enters or note on a sign the trees overhang. This state park has the famous Guadalupe river to enjoy running along its shore. Fabulous and fun for all. Children can play anywhere in the river as it is not deep. They are busy building a new bath house at the river. read more

It really depends on what you're looking for. Guadalupe River? check......Cool water? check......Rocky cliffs to gaze at?....check.....Pit bulls peeing on your stuff?....check.....No one getting out to go to the restroom?.....check...Murky water due to all of the people?....check.....Tejano music at unreasonable volumes?.....check and check. We didn't hike any but it does appear to have nice trails. Our trip was at the end of the summer on a Saturday so there were a LOT of people in the small swimming area. I'm not a people fan so consider that when reading this review. read more

Visited in December and enjoyed the stunning beauty of this park. A great place to stroll, picnic, or just sit and enjoy the beauty.

Pros: - Nice views of the river - Tubing and river access. Bring your own tubes or buy one at a store nearby for $10-13. It's the thing to do here! - Close to civilization (Boerne, Bulverde, and New Braunfels, then Austin and San Antonio). Follow the brown signs along Hwy 46 directing you to the park entrance; don't trust your Garmin GPS! - I still had cell phone data access with T-Mobile in the park. - Pretty scenery of river cliff walls, river shore, and lush green meadows - Lots of benches at useful spots to rest your weary legs - Extensive trails around different types of terrain (limestone rocky, grassy, dirt, etc...) - Nice campsites--even the primitive campsite "Wagon Ford" was very nice and had a restroom located nearby - Relatively clean bathrooms - Guided trail walks are nice. My hiking group did the Honey Creek tour and learned a lot from the park rangers' talk. Check the schedule of events before you come. - Trails are not hard to hike/walk on--even a clumsy person like me made it through 8 miles without turning an ankle or falling. Cons: - Not much elevation gain - Occasionally you may encounter a huge pile of horse droppings on the trail. - Trail markers are present but wish they were labeled with the trail name. - The first time my hiking group (Houston Area Trails and More) camped here, we found a lot of little caterpillars in our tent so check your sleeping pads and sleeping bags before you sleep. Don't wear shorts here if you're hiking. Some of the trails had tall grasses and wildflowers that you have to wade through. Try not to come hiking when it's raining. Some of the trails may be muddy. This is a very popular park (mainly at the Guadalupe River access area). Even on a rainy day, there were lots of families with little kids there. read more

This place is usually pretty packed on the weekends, which is my only gripe- I wish I had it all to myself! Because of the crowds, I prefer coming in the late afternoon/evenings which is much cooler and quieter- no tubing crowds either. I usually go to the left along the bank where there are less people; there are dry spots along the banks to put your stuff. If you keep going left from the main park, there are several good places for fishing. I learned to fly fish here. The water is pretty shallow in some places so you can walk/wade upstream pretty far and the view is just amazing! read more

When looking for a spot to camp I really have only one criteria. I want my spot to have a woodsy feel. Most places have more of a parking lot feel where your right on top of the person next to you. This is not the case at Guadalupe State Park. I def feel like I'm camping but still have the option for a shower and indoor plumbing. The shower rooms were very nice and clean. I did not have high hopes for the facilities but I was blown away. The Rangers were very accommodating and flexible. My only problem is their no alcohol policy. Granted I am not some 21 yr. old kid out for shenanigans but camping without a cold adult beverage doesn't seem right. But on the same note I also see the liability if you had a bunch of drunk people around. Unfortunately, a few bad apples can spoil things quickly for everyone else. Overall, GSP is now my favorite place to camp. Besides you can't beat the close proximity to San Antonio. read more

We have been coming here for 20 years and always have a good time when the river is flowing real good or barely flowing at all.Right now the river is flowing good and the State Park is allowing the ok to grill,the water is nice and cold and the scenery is beautiful. Being that it's father day weekend it is very busy,but we arrived here around 6:30 pm which was perfect to go for a quick swim with my family and my two four legged friends. Tubing right now is fantastic,but there is always something to make it hard to relax, like dealing with annoying nats. I am drinking a couple of Coronas poured into my Yetti,cause their is no consumption of alcohol beverages allowed here unless rules have changed, but I couldn't resist cause it's so relaxing right now. read more

Camped at the primitive site. Bathroom was SPECTACULAR, though the hand dryer was an arctic blast (it was 31F that night). Nice walk along the banks, did some geocaching (boy scouts have placed several in the park). Lots of picnic tables by the river. read more

I went camping there this weekend. Lots of people. All campers are required to sleep on a concrete slabs. The park rangers are cool and courteous but the police patrolling the park will go through your stuff if your not at your campsite. Its probably not regular thing but some dude from another group camping was skulking around our site after everyone went to bed. Super creepy. Very beautiful area. Water was nice and clean and cold. I would totally visit again, just not camp. If your coming from the north and taking the 35, don't stop at the outlets. It's a trap and you don't need any of that stuff. read more

I really like this park from the location to the staff and park hosts to the camping sites to the hiking and the river. We spend a lot of time out here. The hikes can be short and easy or long and easy or challenging if you venture across the river, but you will get wet. read more

Living on riverfront property for two years, you learn to respect nature in a whole different way. From the clear water to open spaces, there is nothing like the Guadalupe River. You can fish, kayak, and even swim in the calm spots. When it doesn't rain for awhile, the water turns crystal clear, and an emerald green. Enjoy multiple spots to lounge in shallow water, and bask in the sun. With this being Geronimo's territory, I now know why he settled here. read more

My family and I love it here. It's perfect for the kids as it has low water levels that go maybe waist high on my 4yr old but also have deeper spots for the adults. Get there early to claim your spot as it fills up quickly. Restrooms are clean just wish they had bigger area to change maybe some showers for the day time users. read more

I love this place! It's beautiful, peaceful, and the water is clean. We did some fishing and had a few bites but nothing major. It's better if you go as far up river as you can because when the crowds get there, around noon, the fishing gets very tough. Get there early because the parking fills up fast. Some nice size bluegill and small bass. Great place for a beginner! read more

Just came back again for Mother's Day weekend. This time we stayed in the Wagon Ford walk-in area. GREAT experience! Lovely open area for kids to run around in the middle of all the sites. It's away from the parking lot so it's great if you have littles. No showers here but it wasn't a problem for us to drive to the next camping area up the road and use theirs. We loved the peaceful tranquility from all the wind blowing in the trees. Found a perfect spot for our hammock! (There were crazy amounts of caterpillars when we were there...almost a bit freakish. When you felt something crawling on you, it was a caterpillar. ) read more

We get a Texas states parks pass every year. If you don't have one, it's a great investment and loads of fun. This park is pretty nice. It has a small section of trail by the river and a few camping sites as well. There are some beautiful spots to post up along the shore and enjoy our state. read more

The best place for families. The place was clean and pretty. It's worth the $7. Nice clean water, good amount of trees for shad but bring an umbrella in case you don't get a tree. Porter potties we're clean and staff was helpful. Plenty of stores nearby read more

I visited this park twice in the fall of 2014, and both experiences were great! One trip included nine adults who spanned two sites, and the other included two families (with children) that spanned two sites. Both trips we practically had the park to ourselves! We didn't experience any hassle with the rangers as mentioned in previous comments, but perhaps this was because of the low occupancy. That being said, we did follow most of the rules (e.g., kept our tents on the designated tent pads, shut off the music during quiet hours), but did consume plenty of adult beverages. The cypress tress and their roots along the bank are amazing! There were a few different trails we explored, all of which were fairly easy to traverse (even with kids and a dog). Also, I was impressed with the bathrooms. Although there was no shower near our site, the toilets were kept clean. read more

I have been camping my entire life at a variety of campgrounds including national parks, state parks, and privately owned campgrounds and I can assure you I will NEVER go here again. The park rangers were absolutely TERRIBLE, and completely disrespectful. I went with 6 people total, 3 couples and we had 2 dogs with us. One of the couples had already reserved 2 campsites online. Our issues started immediately when the staff at check in misunderstood my friend and checked them in under the wrong reservation. When I made them aware of the issue they were obviously angry with my friend and asked that he come back up to take care of it, when he didn't do so IMMEDIATELY they sent someone down to the site to retrieve him (FIRST RANGER VISIT). When he got back up there they didn't reimburse him for paying again bc they 'didn't know how'. The campsite was nice and definitely large enough, however they have designated tent areas (a slightly raised square covered in sand/ small pebbles) which you are apparently REQUIRED to use. The SECOND time the rangers came down they told us that we had to move our tents so that they were on the designated tent area. They also told us that we would immediately need to put both dogs on leashes since despite it seeming like we were in a private campground there could be kids coming in to our site at any time. The next day we went down to the beach and walked away from the crowded area, we did have coolers with beer, however we put the beer in plastic containers so they were not publicly displayed. The THIRD visit from the rangers came when we were rafting in the water. The dogs were IN THE WATER, one of them was in a raft with me, sitting on my lap. The rangers very rudely told us that they already had to talk to us once about the dogs and wouldn't do it again and despite the dog being on my lap on a raft in the water he needed to be on a leash. They then asked who owned the dogs, my boyfriend and I raised our hands and they proceeded to collect our name and birthday and call in to see if we had any warrants out for our arrest. After we were cleared they said, we know you're not drinking water in those containers so I'm only going to ask you once if that is alcohol and I'm going to need you to dump it all out. We dumped it out and they finally left. Only to return for their FOURTH visit 20 minutes later when a group of older women had their radio 'too loud' so they asked if it was ours, and then turned it down. The FIFTH visit came again at the campsite later that night when we were sitting down at the table eating dinner. The ranger walked up in the dark to 'warn us it was about to be quiet hours' despite the fact that we were almost silently enjoying our tri-tip. He noticed beer on the table, asked who was drinking and gave two of our guys citations (for which the max fine could be up to $500!) and made us pour out the beer yet again. He also proceeded to make small talk with us while writing up our citations (annoying). We also had one car parked at the extra site we paid for even though all of us were staying at one site, he made us move that car to our site (which you're only supposed to have 2 cars max at one site). About 5 minutes after he left he came back for the SIXTH ranger visit because he forgot to 'write his name and badge number on the citation'. About 20 minutes after he left one of our group walked to the bathroom and when he was coming back he noticed that the ranger was just standing by our site. He asked the ranger what he was doing and he said he was just 'making his rounds'. So all in all, we were pretty much harassed by rangers, we were overcharged, and cited for quietly consuming alcohol in our own campsite. Did I also mention the bathrooms were DISGUSTING. The girls showers had paint peeling from the shower walls, didn't drain so you were standing in water that was filled with dirt and hair. There was rarely toilet paper in the stalls. I just had to pay a 250$ fine for no reason!!!!!!! Me and my love came in after office hours they left the gate up and we were more then happy to pay but we drove in with NO problems!!!! As soon as we parked we were approached by to security personnel claiming to be police even though they were not!!!!!they arrested my boyfriend claiming he was intoxicated and stated the same for me even though I didn't drink and said the reason was because we "didn't get a sticker" my man said there is no where to check in at this time he said "you were suppose to throw it in a bucket?" (Lie)And he said yes throw it in a white bucket (ass hole) they also latter tried to accuse me of drinking even though we did not!!!!! Afterwards we paid the fines and refuse to ever go there again!!!!!!"don't trust them" the badge number for the personnel is 839. read more

This park has everything for everyone. Hiking, biking, and of course camping. We went hiking along the river on paths provided. Our campgrounds were had enough trees around us, to give the privacy we so liked. It's a great park for everyone!! We will be back. read more

beautiful park but the office admin is run by a bully who will tell you campsites are all booked,when they are not. The most unfriendly person I've ever met.... and you can tell everyone else is cowed by her. The night we arrived, we were told by camp host that there were 4 sites open.... and escorted us to the site. However, the next am when we went to pay we were rudely reprimanded for "taking someone's reserved site" and "NO you cannot spend another nite, the campground is booked- and go to this RV park instead"The park is losing revenue---there were AT LEAST17 campsites vacant the nite she told me they were booked, we were never called as the first ones on the waiting list.... some serious review should be done on this park "headquarters". Or, if they don't want campers, they should shut down the campground and make this a private park..... maybe they don't want "outsiders" and want to keep it for themselves. read more

River was low when I was there- park is below average compared to other state parks in the area (e.g. Perdenales). Also beware that there are some very low speed limits in the park (20 mph and 10 mph) including spots far removed from campground and that officer T Stevens and others lie in wait with radar hoping to give you a $120 + ticket if you go as little as 4 miles over the limit. read more

So we visited this park yesterday, a Saturday. We could tell by the line at the gate it was gonna be packed, so instead of going to the picnic area we made a detour to the campground and ate lunch at an unoccupied site. We had a couple of beers, hidden discreetly behind our cooler. We know the park states no alcohol allowed, but it's never been an issue at other parks. We're a quiet middle-aged couple, not hellraising teens! Anyway, we'd been there about ten minutes when this young officer pulls up with his sidekick and asks if we've reserved the site. I told him we'd be gone as soon as we finished eating, and the officer barks back that we would be leaving RIGHT THEN. He sees the beers and makes me pour em out in front of him. Or else, he says, HE CAN WRITE ME A TICKET. With that, he and his deputy went on their way, only to appear a few minutes later to ensure the lawbreakers were following orders. Otherwise, the river is okay, if you like being surrounded by people floating every variety of inflatable made in China. I'll go elsewhere next time. The State is complaining about low attendance at its parks. No wonder with personnel like this wahoo making trouble for people for no reason. Maybe a little customer service training is in order for these public servants. read more
