I LOVE this place!! Everyone here is so nice and welcoming, but the real star... THEIR YUCCA!!!! They have the BEST yucca I've ever tasted! It's light and fluffy and crispy! It isn't stringy or fibrous as some yucca tends to be. I got the steak nachos each time I came here. They're really good. Be warned, though... it isn't a traditional stack of nachos. It's about 8 chips with the ingredients strategically placed, each one including a raw slice of jalepeno. The first time I ordered, I was taken aback, but they're good so I quickly got over it :-) The chicken is sooooooo good!! OMG! It's juicy, tender, moist, and the skin is perfection (y'all know I love my chicken skin!). Any time I go to Potomac Mills, I will definitely be having lunch at Guapo's! Unfortunately my experience at Guapo's was terrible. I order a quarter chicken with coleslaw and fries. My fries were cold and the chicken was decent. The coleslaw was the worst part of my meal, I found a ladybug in it. I told one of the employees and she just looked at me and said "omg" and walked away with my plate. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!! I spent some time reading the reviews here and for the ones that gave it 3 stars and lower I'm genuinely and honestly confused. This place is pretty clean whenever I come besides the occasional dirty table or two which happens at every single restaurant, and is 100% absolutely unavoidable. Actually whenever I stop by here, the employees are always cleaning, sweeping, etc. The people are friendly 99.9% of the time. Ambiance is your typical Tex Mex restaurant decor, nothing special, but definitely well put together and maintained. As far as the food, I've never ever been disappointed. I usually get the 1/2 chicken, fried yucca, and rice. The chicken is especially moist, never ever dry, and always cooked perfectly (and i don't even like chicken). The fried yucca is to die for and the rice is great also. The PATRON SAUCE is ALSO to die for which you have to ask for @ the front now, and the guapos sauce is addicting. I have gone with people who have ordered other things and it has always been delicious with no complaints. I have always thought this place to be so authentic from the food, employees, and ambiance! I know there's a different type of guapos out there where it's sit down dining, waitstaff, chips and salsa at every table type place. THIS IS NOT THAT TYPE OF PLACE. Do not go there and expect that, then judge it because it's not. It's not supposed to be like that. You order at the front, they bring it to you once you sit down and it's ready. I drive all the way from Alexandria just for their green jalapeno pepper sauce. (I'm not totally sure if that's what it's called but the name fits) I love it on my yucca and my chicken!!!!!! The Quasi-Healthy-Non-American-Sized-Portion-Eater's Guide to Guapo's First of all, if you're sitting there trying to decide between Guapo's and Chili's, stop reading, drive to the airport, and fly to some random South American country for three days (Peru comes to mind). Tell your boss you got sick. You may come back knowing that Guapo's food isn't the same as it is in Lima, but at least you'll have taken the first step toward tiptoeing into adventurous eating, putting you right in step with all us pretentious Yelpsters who proudly gave up chain eating YEARS AGO. Waaaay before it was cool. Secondly, if you're a person who always takes home leftovers because portions in restaurants are enough for two of you, then here are some tips: 1. Unless you are starving, the quarter chicken platter is probably too much food, but it is really flavorful and fairly healthy, especially if you substitute plantains for the fries and don't eat the skin on the chicken. (I learned recently that 90% of the fat in chicken is in the skin. Who'd-a-thunk it? Anyhoo, Guapo's chicken minus the skin still has great flavor.) 2. If you're with another light eater, get the half chicken platter and split it. 9 bucks. Can't beat that with a tortilla. Or a chicken leg. 3. Order a' la carte. I recommend a taco (it comes with salad) and an order of beans. You'll be satisfied, not stuffed, and you'll have spent less than 5 bucks. I work less than a mile from Guapo's, and it has become a favorite lunch spot. Sure, there may be better char-grilled chicken Peruvian-Mexican places in NoVa, but compared to the other food options in the Potomac Mills area, Guapo's is at the top. read more

LOVED having dinner at Guapos. Was going to a concert at a church in Woodbridge and a friend recommended Guapos for dinner before the concert. It's not fancy - order at the counter, have a seat, they bring your food out. Prices are pretty cheap. Service was fine - a little lackluster, not much enthusiasm, but polite and prompt. I thought the food was delicious. I'm a little nervous about trying new places like this because I get terrible migraine headaches from MSG, but NO headache here. I look forward to my next excuse to go to Woodbridge so I can go back to Guapos. read more

The wife and I both loving coming here. If you want a change from the traditional On the Border, Chevy's, and other standard Tex Mex chains, check out Guapo's. Now there are the full restaurants and the smaller more fast food like ones... this is one of the smaller ones. You order at the counter and pay there, but you get a number and a server brings you your food. They bus your table too. I usually get the #3 (I think it's the #3). It comes with a quarter rotisserie chicken, beef taco, enchilada, salad, fries, rice and beans. I typically upgrade the fries to yuka, cuz their yuka is really good!! The chicken, though, is my favorite part of the meal (next to the yuka, of course). It's very juice and tender. The meat has great flavor, as does the skin. With the dipping sauces they have... you just can't miss. The plantains are a good dish here too as an appetizer. The sour cream dip that comes with them is really tasty. They have good flan here too. Definitely check them out for lunch or dinner. It's not too expensive and it's a good meal! read more

The first Guapo's I ever went to was this place. Can I say I was really disappointed? It was like when everyone goes to see a movie and when you finally see it, you're like....that's it! It's your typical random chicken place. Nothing special about it from my point of view. Where is that one thing that makes me keep coming back for more? I ordered a sandwich and it was meh...my cousin ordered some chicken and he was not impressed (he tends to like mostly everything). We were also shocked he got a cheap plastic knife that could barely cut the meat. A little over two years ago I went to Guapo's in Arlington and I was blown away. I could not understand how the two were related. Here you have a quick fast food place and in Arlington it's a full waiter service restaurant with a lot more food and one of the best places to go to in the area. It was like the difference between getting pizza at Subway and getting pizza at Pupatella. The Arlington one, I keep going back for their nachos and their corn tamal. Travel to the Arlington one and save yourself some money and time. read more

I went here on my first day at a new job. I had never been before so when my new boss suggested it I said sure. I ordered the 1/4 chicken. It came with fries and a salad. Honestly I have had better roast chicken from Costco. Maybe it was just the order I got, but it was dry. My fries were cold. The salad was not dressed with anything. Was looking for a place for lunch while at Potomac Mills and checked the reviews on Yelp, couldn't help but try Guapos. I was amazed, it was great, even better than I expected. Fast food rotisserie chicken but fantastic, reminded me of El Pollo Loco on the west coast but higher quality chicken. Also had ribs that were surprisingly meaty and a flavor that I remembered (in a good way) for hours. Fried plaintains were also well done. I used to get three beef tacos, guacamole on side, or a special value meal included soda, pupusa, and 1/4 chicken less than $10. Had never eaten here before...but, do to trying to avoid the outrageous traffic that construction has created driving between Richmond, VA and DC-I needed to fill my belly after hours of shopping at Potomac Mills. So i whipped out my handy yelp app ...voila! Guapos 0.1mi appeared with a 4 star avg I was skeptical at first glance (no lie). I was even more weary when i entered, but to make a long story short-i tried the chicken, the rice and chicken side (like their version of dirty rice almost), and fries. The chicken was great! it was well seasoned and not over/under cooked. They have a sauce called PATRON and its a nice dipping sauce for the fries! Overall, if you need a quick fix and you see Guapos, GO! I will frequent this place many more times and I have a pic of the food and ill try to edit this review with that photo soon. read more

I used to love this place but lately it has gone downhill. I'm not sure what happened if there's new management but it shows. Lately they've been slow and food quality has gone down. For example they took forever just to give me my rotisserie order which in the past only took a few minutes. I thought the place was just having a bad day but I went two more times and they messed up my order and the yuca was inedible and looked like it was mashed then put in my bag. For what it is (which essentially amounts to fast food) it's incredible. The Rotisserie Chicken and Enchiladas were excellent, and the beef taco was just "good."' The Grilled Chicken Tacos also tasted great, until you bite into a chunk of cartilage. Unfortunately, they used every piece of chicken-- fat and cartilage included. This was a major disappointment because they otherwise tasted fantastic. I'm no connoisseur of ethnic food. But I was looking for something new and my 5 year old absolutely loves it.
