First time at El Papi Taco and we'll definitely be back! I had the birria tacos--packed with meat, super filling. The dipping sauce wasn't quite for me, maybe missing a little garlic? Loved the fresh cilantro and onions though. My husband got the shrimp tacos and crushed them--he just wished he'd ordered more! We also tried the flan, and it was perfect--great texture and flavor. Ordered the steak tacos, Patricia's birria sample, and the churros to go. The steak was dried and had no flavor. I swear I could have choked. I was really excited for the birria but I can't recommend it. I ordered to go so the birria tacos were all soggy at the bottom. The flavor was kinda off to me, didn't have the beef flavor to it but it definitely had another foreign flavor. Although it was stuffed with meat and cheese, the flavor to me just threw it off. Came here for the first time on an uneventful Monday. You order yourself from their kiosk and that's where you'll find their menu also. The inside has a nice bar area and I loved the murals inside. It was empty on a Monday evening. I decided to try the birria brisket tacos. I received my order quickly but when I opened the box it was pretty basic birria. I noticed that the cheese was only on one side of the tortilla. Also I think it was missing the birria consome. I feel like it usually on both sides and then it's folded. The meat was not very flavorful and felt like it was missing something. I also tried the corn without tajin. It was a bit mushy but still ate it. I won't be getting the birria tacos but may be back to try different tacos. read more

Come hungry leave happy Third trip here again had red birria tacos and son had 3 carnitas. The meat is excellent and the portion sizes not even comparable to other places. You'll definitely get what you pay for when you visit. The rice was better and beans looked better as well. I appreciated the offer for ice with our drinks and the service delivered with a smile. The restaurant was clearing out at about 8:00 on Friday night when we ate there. They were still welcoming guests after we got our food and left. We had chips and salsa, barbacoa nachos, and tacos. I went here one day, and it was absolutely garbage. The store had an open window in the hot summer, with NO AC. It was very tight-knit in there and it was humid. The food was VERY expensive. Small serving sizes, and everything was a surcharge. The food was flat out DISGUSTING. It had ZERO seasoning, ZERO flavor. Deliciousness - 3.5/5 Happiness - 4/5 This new taco joint has potential, and I'll be back to see how it develops. This is an elevated fast casual setting with a bar and lots of in-restaurant seating. You order at a computer screen and the food is then made to order and brought out to your table. The menu is very unwieldy. It is huge, not well organized, and takes a lot of time to get through. I think they need to keep tinkering with it to make it more navigable. It also doesn't allow full customization. I did tell the cook to make my meal without queso and they definitely did, but it would have been nice to have that option in the menu. The bartender was very friendly, even making me a blue margarita though that wasn't on the menu. I also wish there was an option to get one taco (the minimum was 2). The food was decent to good. Our favorite was the thing that they are named for, red birria tacos. The helping of birria was generous and the shells were sturdy enough that it didn't leak through during eating it. And the tortilla shells were absolutely delicious. However, I also found it a bit too greasy (my plate was covered in a yellow film by the end). I also ordered (at extra cost) the optional broth, but thought it didn't add anything to the tacos. My wife and I also ordered the lamb barbacoa (which we were excited about as we love lamb) and lengua tacos. Although very meaty, neither really appeared to be seasoned and so were a bit flavorless. We had to heap on the hot sauce and lime to get a bit of flavor. But they were piping hot and fresh, which was nice. We got the street corn that I thought was good, but my wife thought was just OK (funny since typically I am not a fan of elote and she usually is, so take that for what it's worth). It was heavily citrused and light on mayo/cream, which I prefer. The blue margarita definitely needed more tequila (although I liked that it came with a tajin and pepper rim). The biggest hit was the pollo fries-nachos (a combo of tortilla chips and fries smothered in rice, crema, chipotle ailoli, Oaxaca cheese, and a meat of your choice). My brother and I were driving by and saw this place off Dumfries Rd (Rt. 234) behind Popeyes. There were multiple businesses around and plenty of parking. As you walked in, you are greeted by the bartender Alex in which there were a limited selection for alcohol beverages but soon to be fully stocked. The restaurant is very clean, open kitchen concept, gorgeous hand painted collages throughout including the restrooms and also has a separate sink outside the restroom for washing your hands. The ordering process is through a kiosk system and once your order is complete, someone will bring it to your table. We ordered five items: 1) Lengua (cow tongue) tacos 2) Ruby's all birria 3) Elote 4) Churros 5) Mexican coke cola. On the tables there are two glass dispenser bottles with red and green hot flavored sauces. The napkin dispenser is located in the middle of the lobby. The lengua street tacos were delicious and tender. I added the green sauce and it enhance the flavors a little. Ruby's all birria is a combo platter which includes 3 tacos, one chicken, one brisket, one combination of brisket/chicken, a ramekin of consommé and a small churro. This platter was tasty but was missing some heat. The consommé tastes exactly like Lao op chow. I ordered the Mexican coke cola and it was surprisingly good and sweet. The elote is a street corn smothered with unique flavors including sriracha, mayonnaise, tajin and when incorporated my palate was dancing. It was a little messy but I couldn't get enough after the first bite. The churros were light, airy and had a nice crunch on the outer layer. The chocolate sauce were drizzle on top which made it a little dry but it would have been better if there were a small ramekin of that chocolate sauce for dipping. All staff members were friendly and attentive. The owners a mother and daughter team were welcoming with great smiles, humorous and wonderful personality. They also have another location in Maryland. I will definitely make another visit to try other items on the menu. read more

Tacos were cold and the meat was hard. Mexican tacos should have warm tortillas and fresh ingredients, especially the meat.El papi had fries, beans, or rice instead. The guacamole was good, and the chips were surprisingly warm. The margarita was water with unknown ingredients. The place was nicely decorated and inviting, but the music was too loud. Despite having five people working in the kitchen, the tacos were of poor quality. This place needs significant improvement, especially if you're a taco and beer enthusiast. In my humble opinion the food is nowhere near authentic it's below average. The beef tongue we ordered still had the membrane.
