This place has some of the best rotisserie chicken ANYWHERE! I've tried other Peruvian chicken places and always come back to Gaupos. They not only season their chicken best, but they sell enough if it that it's always moist and fresh. Some of the other places the chicken sits and dries out and/or they do an inferior job with the seasoning. This place also makes the BEST yuca! Their fried yuca is amazing! So are their beans & rice, outstanding! They make a chicken sub/sandwich that is packed with flavor and it's often tough to decide between that or the rotisserie chicken. I had woke up early and was looking for something that didn't include the usual breakfast favorites so I waited about 30 minutes at 10:30 am they opened for business. I ordered from their newly added tacos menu and I ate about a quarter of one of the 3 included in my order, the meat was dry, the iceberg lettuce looked brownish and there was no salsa. decided to try since we always drive pass it. the ambience isn't the best, tables and chairs are sticky and it was a little stuffy inside. we order a combo that was half a chicken, with rice, beans and fries. it was 16 bucks. the fries was burnt and only 3 pieces were edible for the kids. the rest, which wasn't much was crunchy and overly cooked. some of the rice was crunchy, i don't know if that means bottom of the pot or old and stale. we also order half chicken with two sides, which was 14 but to replace one of the sides with yucca it was an additional 1.95. which we did , the issue i have with that was we got 4/5 yuccas ... like seriously?.... definitely felt ripped off . the chicken is extremely salty and texture was kind of strange, more squishy than i'm used to. my 3 year old and one year old who typically loves peruvian chicken didn't like it. 37 dollars and unsatisfied. unfortunately would not go again. pollo rico is soooo much better. read more

Very disappointed in the service. Order was missing 15 papusas and 3 yuccas. I called and Melissa the "manager" who doesn't even know her own employees names claims she can't do anything about it. All Melissa did was tell me what she couldn't do and not what she can do. I looked at my receipt and said Gabriella took the order she said we don't have a Gabriella here. Food is excellent. It's best to order in person if you actually expect to get what you wanted. Guapos creative ways of always messing up a telephone order has gone from being frustrating to funny over the 12 years that we've gone there. Screwing up a phone order is not a bug, it's a feature of the Guapo experience. Bring your own sour cream! After 10 years of trying to get some from them, I gave up trying. Due to the raving reviews on Yelp, I decided to stop by this place one time in the not so distant past. Since then, I have been back to Guapo's countless times. It's just that good! Order and pay at the front, and take your number placard to an open table. Brace yourself for the goodness that is soon to be placed in front of you. I usually order a #3 or #4. ALWAYS order something that includes rotisserie chicken; if you skip the chicken, you really are missing out on the pièce de résistance! Moist, and fall-off-the-bone. The chicken has just the right amount of salt content. Flavorful inside and out! The skin is crisp and so so delicious. The chicken enchilada is wonderful. This is usually one of the items that I never seem to enjoy much at typical Mexican restaurants, but Guapo's makes them right. The beef tacos are simple, but so much better than 99 cent ones at Taco Bell. I was skeptical of the ribs at first, but they rival those of even the chain barbecue restaurants... Most definitely Texas inspired. My girlfriend always orders the carne asada; it is juicy barbecue perfection. A lot of the reviews praise the sauces, but I must be weird because I just stick with ketchup. The SPICY green salsa-ish dressing that comes with the side salad is great though. Another thing I want to touch upon is the fried yucca. It's okay, kind of plain, but not quite my preference; I just stick with the fried potatoes (fries). The servers are always the same sweet ladies time in and time out. Very nice, and definitely deserving of any tip you choose to leave behind. The restaurant is very clean and spacious. The menu is so extensive that I will have to keep coming back to try the other items, but it is so hard to stray away from the classic rotisserie chicken. Nice chunky pieces of white meat in a tasty broth with plenty of good veggies like zucchini, carrots and tasty bell peppers. You have the option of a cup or bowl. It goes down great on a cold NoVa winter day. I also like that they offer the option of flour tortillas with their tacos at no additional cost. This location of Guapo's specializes in Pollo a la Brasa, also known as rotisserie chicken...also known as Peruvian chicken. This is a pretty good option for chicken if you're in the area. I enjoy this place because it is all about the chicken AND yucca fries combo for me. The yucca fries are some of the best that I've ever had. Forget those thick, starchy, undercooked pieces of yucca that competitors are serving--Guapo's has golden fried goodness for you! The green sauce is good and spicy. Their Guapo's sauce wasn't that great. The cheese pupusa was okay--the cheese was nice and gooey and it looked appealing but it was a bit too greasy which quickly became too soggy. Guapos is one of my favorite places in Woodbridge. Sure they serve typical mexican food fare, but the standout is their pollo a la brasa. Great flavorful juicy chicken is an easy sell for me. It's so juicy that when you order it at the restaurant the bottom of the plate is usually a nice layer of juice. It comes with two sides, I usually go with the rice and salad which are both solid additions. Now special mention must be made to the sauce station. The house ranch is perfect for the aformentioned side salad. There is the typical yellow sauce as well which I'm not a fan of, but co-eaters have said they prefer it to some others. Then there is a unique sauce, a kind of reddish brown sauce, that also works well on the salad or with the chicken. I really like it. Then the tour de force Guapo's green sauce. Which they don't keep on the sauce station because it would never last. It's got good spice, I woudn't say it's the best green suace I've ever had but certiantly towards the top. Now with the chicken I usually add on a taco or two. Both the carne asada and the chicken soft taco are servicable. The Cholula hot sauce on the sauce station does a good job of elevating them up another level. My only real beef with with Guapos is that they don't have Dr. Pepper. Hopefully I can convince them with contiuned patronage to fix that. read more

My wife and I have passed this restaurant many time thinking we needed to check it out. We finally did and found a new favorite. The food was so tasty and authentic. The pastor tacos were delightful. The first time we went here we weren't impressed. However, one of the owners reached out to us personally and invited us back. We have been back twice. They are awesome! The food is yummy and reasonably priced. Staff is very friendly! Only downside is they now do not have fountain drinks (cans only) but I think that's just a sign of the time of living in a pandemic. Updated: I don't come here very often but the last few times we have eaten here in the last year everything has been amazing. I love their chicken tacos and rotisserie chicken, fried yucca, sweet plantains and all my kids love the pupusas. Prices are great also. I wish I could give them a higher rating. The food here is tasty, the variety is good. But some days whoever is in the kitchen is just not paying much attention. To explain, one day you get great, the next you want to return the meal. They have my favorite side of fried yucca, some days they are just cooked perfect, other days they are soggy and completely soaked in oil. The pupusas revueltas are my kids ' favorite, they are tasty. Some days they are cooked just right, other days (same day as greasy and soggy yucca) the bottom of the pupusas are completely burned on one side and not cooked enough in the other side. The chicken one day is delicious, the next is a little dried out. Also, I really hope a manager would see this and do something about it because this place has so much potential read more

This place has great food and service. I got half a chicken with yuca fries and beans. The yuca fries cost a little more than the regular fries... I think it was like 60 cents more compared to the regular fries. I really liked how the yuca fries were so crispy, but They did not give me enough. I wish I ordered another order of yuca fries- next time I will definitely order extra. They were delicious. I like to dip mine in ketchup, but they have a lot of awesome sauces to choose from. They have a guapos sauce that seems like a mayonnaise based sauce. Oh and you have to make sure you ask for the green sauce. This is spicy, but so flavorful and I like how the green sauce is not over taken by the heat. Instead, you can add a lot of flavor to your meal with the green sauce. Decided to try Guapo's because of a coupon in my Attractions book. It was a little strange. You order at the front, then sit with a stand with your number and they bring out your food. The place is a rotisserie chicken place and a Tex-Mex place. Unfortunately it doesn't excel at either endeavor. The rotisserie chicken was tasty but a little dry while the beef burrito was somewhat flavorless. I had been wanting to try the place but doubt if I will return.
