I took my senior cat here a few weeks ago to get a dental cleaning and had a great experience from call to discharge. I live in Celina so it's quite a ways for me to drive to Denton but our regular vet had quoted us $1k-$1.2k for a dental cleaning for my 12 yr old cat. They said he had some tartar build up on his back molars and a bit of gingivitis in his gums and it will get worse if we don't get a cleaning done. Our pet insurance does not cover dental cleanings so it would be out of pocket. I was recommended Guardian pet Hospital from a cat rescue group on Facebook. When I called the receptionist was very friendly and quoted me $300. A phenomenal price considering what our vet was charging us. My cat went to get a pre screening done and everything was good to go! He got his cleaning done shortly after, appointment times weren't an issue and he did so well under anesthesia. The staff is very helpful and very kind and the price came out being even a little less than what they originally quoted me! I highly recommend coming here not just for the reasonable prices but also for the great experience and friendly staff. I am highly considering transferring all our pets to Guardian pet hospital even if it's a longer drive for us! read more

AVOID GUARDIAN PET HOSPITAL!!! I boarded my diabetic dog with Guardian recently, and there is a SEVERE ANIMAL NEGLECT PROBLEM with this group. As my dog is diabetic (and has been for 2 years now), her feeding and insulin routine is of the utmost important to regulate her system. First, I was told they would accommodate her feeding/insulin schedule when I initially called, which is on a rolling 12-hour basis. However, when I was dropping her off, they then decided to tell me that they could not actually accommodate the times and it would be about a 8 hour cycle between feedings/insulin with a 16 hour gap. This destroys her medical routine, and leads to huge degradations in her energy and health. Then, the onsite staff were very rude to me about how to treat her. I have been following a 2 year routine now with my vet, but the staff told me their on-site vet knew better and they tried to change the medicine for her. What?!?! Finally, I included hand-crafted bags with measured food for each of my dog's meals. But after I picked her up, I noticed that they did not feed my dog during one of the meals as I had one of my bags returned to me!?! This means they completely skipped feeding her one morning/night which is first, entirely unacceptable, and second, extremely detrimental to her health and survival!! When I called and asked about it, and after being on hold for 20 minutes, I was given every excuse in the book (maybe we fed her food we have here (breaks her vet's prescription), or maybe you are delusional and you gave us too much food (it's not that hard to count 10 bags for 10 meals), "but yes we definitely fed her". Absolutely ridiculous, again, avoid these people at all costs!! read more

Rating changed to 4* I'm so disappointed. I did everything they asked me to do - spent a lot of money doing it. Then I waited and waited for a call with the bloodwork results, and it never came. Yesterday MORNING, I called and explained to the receptionist that my dog, Luna, is running out of meds and I have been waiting for the bloodwork results so they can refill her HEART MEDS. I was promised a call around 2 pm. NOTHING. Now my poor baby only has one day of meds left and it is a Holiday weekend. I won't be able to get her anything else since the vet and/or vet tech did not bother to call and/or/ issue me more medications. Very upsetting. read more

I have 4 Boston Terriers and when we moved to Denton we were very concerned about who we could find to doctor our fur babies. After twice trying other places, we have decided to call Guardian home! The phone etiquette was wonderful, the vet Tech was so nice and friendly. And the Vet was the best of all. Their place was very clean and the atmosphere was soothing and happy and their prices are in line with other vets. So far, we love it here. So does Winston. read more

The dogs bark all day (10 hours a doy) as if unattended. They may send pictures to you to prove that is not the case....but is it really? When I call to ask about the barking, the staff hangs up on me after stating "they cannot control the dogs". read more

Ive had no problems until recently with this vet. Ive taken my cat 5 times in less than 2 months because they're not giving us the right medication. I called to ask for a different prescription and they wanted me to bring him in AGAIN, it's too stressful for him. First time I called the receptionist hung up on me. I called again asking for the other prescription they recommended. Ive been waiting 3 days now. I've called every day to check to see if it's ready. The first time calling she said she forgot to put the request in. The 2nd day they said it would be ready by the end of the day and they would call me, I never received a phone call. 3rd day I still haven't heard from them. I don't recommend going here. read more

This review pertains to services rendered in late December 2022. I've taken awhile to sort my thoughts before writing it. This business became, a few months earlier, a combined operation of Guardian Pet Hospital - previously on McKinney Street in Denton - with the former Windcrest Pet Resort at 5248 Edwards Rd. in Denton, having moved into the pet resort's location after veterinarian Angela Paben purchased the property. In addition to running a now-joint pet lodging facility along with a veterinarian practice, Dr. Paben was also offering home visits, at that time, for elderly clients unable to bring their pets to her facility. Dr. Paben and her staff clearly have ambitious interests for this practice. Unfortunately, my experience is that this one-veterinarian facility is over-extended. I showed with my aging cat while the pet lodging for the holidays was in full swing. I realized my cat might be dying. In the small waiting area, my cat was taken to the back without me, samples were obtained to be sent off, he was returned, and we returned home with antibiotics. I never did get all the lab results returned to me from Guardian. In the meantime, I took my pet to a multiple-vet practice in Denton where the experience was a complete turnaround from Guardian. My pet AND I were both seen by a veterinarian in an examining room where questions could be asked and options discussed. It was a very soothing and professional environment, even though ultimately the outcome for my feline boy was not good. I hope in time that Dr. Paben expands the business to offer a better environment for her veterinary practice as this multiple-service operation, based on my experience, is simply overextended for true pet care. read more

Our dog Dewey recently started having seizures this year, and we had to go out of town for the weekend so we took him here because they have vets on staff and we felt he would be well cared for there. But we were wrong. We dropped him off a healthy, happy boy. We had worked so hard for the past four months to regulate his medications with our vet. We had just weened him off his steroid and had reduced the need for medications from four to one (phenobarbital). It is very important for him to get his meds with his food at the same time, which we explained when we dropped him off. All the gains we had made in health were lost due to his stay at this facility. They called us two days after we left. Dewey is wobbly and we want to give him steroids. We explained we did not want him on steroids. We were coming home that night and picking him up the next day. They completely ignored our request and instead waited until they received confirmation from our vet that it would be okay to give him the steroid. Dewey was a wreck. Our typically calm, quiet dog was restless, peeing every hour in the house and pacing frantically around the home. He did not sleep that night. This persisted for days. We asked for his notes and records. They have generic tick boxes where they show he was fed and got his meds, but no details on when/what/how much. It is quite likely that he was "wobbly" because he was not receiving his medications properly. They set us back the four months we had recovered with his health in a weekend. We will never trust our dog to go to a facility because of how awful this experience was. Guardian Pet Hospital stopped responding to our requests for information and we are appalled that they would completely disregard our expertise as his primary caregiver and pet owner. They did not have our consent and they gave him a medication (which they also charged us for by the way). We incurred additional vet bills as we worked with our vet to get him back on track. I would NEVEr recommend this place to anyone after our experience. read more

I've been taking my 4 y/o dog here for 3 years now. I dropped her off at 8:15am to get sedated to do her nails. They usually kennel her until the very end of the day to sedate and trim. I told them that the last 2 times after the sedation she has peed herself and whined excessively for the rest of that day and sometimes the next morning, which they said is normal for up to 24 hours after. They called me at 5:30pm and told me that they couldn't place an IV in her paw so they gave her an IM shot in her rear end to calm her down, which apparently had no effect. They couldn't trim her nails because of this. So free day of dog daycare I guess. I went to pick her up at the new location where the vet and a worker stood outside and paid me no mind, as did the 3 staff workers inside for 5 minutes as I stood in front of them at the desk until I asked someone to get my dog from the back. Their new place is just as messy and cluttered as the old one, if not worse. Their staff are also not trained to work with animals as a friend of mine has a sister who worked there with no experience prior, or training during. One vet tech has cornered my dog in an exam room before to give her shots and became frustrated and confused as to why she couldn't do it. This place is unprofessional, untrained, and unorganized. I wouldn't trust these people with a pet rock. read more

Best Vet and staff EVER! I've been a pet owner for over 43 years. I've been to a wide variety of different animal clinics and taken my animals to many different veterinarians. Guardian Pet Hospital is hands down the best place I've ever been. Many competent and caring vets and staff have seen my animals through the years, but none come close to the warm, caring, loving and thoughtful care of Dr. Paben and her remarkable staff! Honestly, I chose Guardian 7 years ago at first because of their affordable prices. However, I have stayed due to their above and beyond care for my precious dogs and cat. The atmosphere is warm, inviting and relaxed. Everyone from the receptionists, to the techs to Dr. Paben is friendly, helpful and genuinely caring. For the last year they all supported me as my 19 years old cat declined. Toward the end, I was up there nearly every day for fluids. They always acted happy to see me and my darling cat. They were always gentle and attentive. They expressed sincere sorrow at what I was going through. When my sweet girl died two weeks ago, I received the most thoughtful, personal condolence card from Kristy, the receptionist! I highly recommend GPH. My dog Chester had always been very healthy until the summer of 2019 when fleas just wouldn't leave him alone. Chester was 19 years old but before the fleas you wouldn't have guessed he was a Senior. By fall he was really going down hill and I knew I needed to make a decision. I called to make an appointment and a very very nice and compassionate young man told me the regular Vet was gone for the week and they had a temporary Vet visiting. When we arrived for our appointment the Vet and the young man were so nice. I needed that. Chester and I had lost our Yorkie best buddie two years earlier. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated their compassion and obvious love of animals. When I'm ready for a new buddy I'll be visiting this office again. read more

Petey loves going to Guardian Pet daycare, they send pictures of him having fun with other dogs during his stay and they are very reasonable. Petey is exhausted after spending the day there and I like the fact that there's a vet on sight in case of an emergency. read more

We brought our cat here for treatment. Our experience was horrible. One verbally nasty nurse or tech came out after we had called inside 3 times for our pet. Make me feel very comfortable with not being able to go inside with my dog. Reasonable prices (48 for office visit, 35 for heart worm test, 50ish for bloodwork, and about 20 per shot). Guardian Pet Hospital has been an amazing vet for us. We always tend to have the same doctor and he is kind, friendly, and explains the process throughout the way. We've been lucky and our 2 1/2 yr old pup had her first ER vet visit a couple months ago. We were able to get a same day appt, and the costs ended up being reasonable considering the amount of attention she needed! The shop is in an old shopping center that is rather run down, but it beats everyone else in service. The girls at the front are always sure friendly and very informative. Anytime I have an issue I know I can just call up and ask some questions. I always try to provide a little constructive criticism, but I am having problems thinking of anything to say! Amy & Dr. Paben are excellent! I didn't get to meet Dr. Paben, but Amy is one of the vet techs and Amy is awesome! I took my mini-dachshund to Guardian Pet Hospital to get her annual dental, heartworm exam, and vaccinations. I had a problem and I was worried about picking up my dachshund before the office closed. When I told Amy about my problem, she offered to drop off my dog on her way home. Now, that's what I call service! Even though I did end up picking my dachshund, I really appreciated the offer! And they did an excellent job on the dental. And their prices are reasonable. read more

Great care for my dog! His ears have been giving him trouble for some time now, so we took him in to get them checked. Since we're new, the consultation was free, and they were able to diagnose the problem (yeast infection), clip his nails, update his vaccinations and test him for heart worms within an hour. The staff was so nice to my incredibly anxious and vocal hound dog. He's huge and a little bit of a butt, but they handled his nervousness brilliantly and by the time we were walking out I'm sure he was sad to leave. The price wasn't too bad, and I'll be taking my other dog to see them to get his vaccines done too. Glad to have found a vet I can trust. read more

We brought our elderly dog to Guardian as a regular patient. As she aged and became ill, the staff and Dr Paben took such excellent care of her, always willing to do whatever it took to make life comfortable for our dog, Tasha. They became like family to Tasha. When Tasha became very ill with dementia and kidney failure, we made the difficult decision to euthanize her.Dr Paben and the staff (Amy, Jeni, and Tiffany) were kind and gentle with the best bedside manner. It was as if they had to say good-bye to their own pet. They were there when we brought other dogs in to see them and always took the best care of them. We had to move out of the Denton area and still miss Guardian and the staff there. I have never met a vet or staff who takes better care of their animal and people patients. I moved to Irving in October and it never crossed my mind to find a new Veterinarian. The travel time is well worth the level of care and trust I get from Dr. Paben and her staff. I had an appointment to have my cat spayed the past Tuesday at Guardian Pet Hospital. The secretary behind the desk when I walked in was extremely friendly. I wish I could remember her name. She took my cat, Valkyrie, and I could hear her talking to her and cooing at her which I found very endearing. When I came back to pick her up, there was another lady behind the desk, and she was just as friendly. I could see Valkyrie in her cage from the waiting area so I was able to encounter a small exchange between the tech and my kitten. She easily pulled my baby out of the kennel, all the while talking to her and petting her, and carefully placed her in her carrier. I appreciated the tenderness from the tech. Dr. Paben was up front when I picked Valkyrie up. She proceeded to tell me stories of things that happened during her stay. It's extremely comforting to know that the doctor you are placing your babies welfare in is actually taking the time to socialize with them and not leaving them with no interaction in a metal cage. Dr. Paben not only provides excellent medical care, but she also takes the time to make sure her patients are comfortable and happy, all while being easy on the wallet. Guardian Pet Hospital is a treasure, and as long as I am in the DFW area, I will NEVER go anywhere else! read more

I took my rambunctious crazy lab there for annual shots and a heartworm test earlier this week. The girls who work at the front desk and assist the vet are very friendly and readily answered all of my questions. Dr. Paban was so sweet and patient with my dog, even when my dog wouldn't cooperative with the blood draw. Even though they ended up having to get on floor and wrestle with her to get the blood drawn, no one seemed even remotely annoyed, and in fact, they were calm and reassuring towards me and my dog. I thought the pricing was fair, and I will definitely be taking my other dog there as well! read more

Wow! What excellent service. My cat was bitten on the foot last night. Found Guardian here on Yelp and called them first thing this morning. Was told to drop him off so they could sedate him and take a look at him. 20 minutes later I get a call that he's been treated and I can pick him up on my way home. Fee was less than I expected too. Very friendly hospital. I just moved to Denton and I had a little trouble finding a legitimate place to take my dog for check ups and to get her shots. I was very satisfied with Guardian. The last pet hospital I took my dog to, the Veterinarian was very rude and didn't provide a lot of information as to what was wrong with my dog. Dr. Dyal is an excellent veterinarian. I have taken all 3 of my cats there for neutering, ear problems, check ups, vaccinations and blood glucose tests. I also purchase my cats' food from his clinic called Guardian Pet Hospital. He is a wonderfully kind vet who truly cares all animals. His treatments, care and vaccinations are all affordable and he would never recommend a medication or treatment unless he feels that your pet truly needs it. Dr. Dyal (and team) were all friendly and interested in my concerns about the health of my old basset hound. Didn't oversell on treatments or extra meds, but offered several options to consider on a list of concerns I had. Seemed to know his stuff, and had a calm demeanor and grounded approach. Didn't scare my dog, who usually hates vet visits. Appeared to be up on the latest introductions in the field and was able to discuss pros and cons of various treatments. Overall price was reasonable. (Wish my human doctor was that pleasant to work with.) read more

I love Dr Paben and her crew! You can tell they love their jobs and love helping animals. My dog was in tons of pain and freaking out a couple of Saturdays ago and Dr Paben drove from her home in another city and met us at the clinic to help my dog. She is truly the best vet anyone can hope for! We ended up having to put my dog to sleep five days ago. They put her to sleep very gently and gave us time with her afterwards to cry our hearts out. I just picked up her ashes today and they had made her paw print into clay (I think it's clay?) which was so sweet of them to do. It's something I can keep forever along with her ashes. The company they use for cremation services is also very nice. I cannot recommend this veterinarian enough! read more

Clearly the staff here genuinely cares for animals very much and making a buck is not at the top of their priorities rather providing excellent care for your loved ones is. I took my Blue Heeler or Cattle Dog in to get a dog bite looked at. I dropped off the dog in the morning and around noon I received a call asking if it was possible if I could come to the office. Rather than charge me more money and administer a drug to knock my baby out then examine her they recommended I sit with my dog while they attempted to look at her due to her anxiety of being in the vet for the 1st time. All went well in the end without my dog taking unnecessary drugs to knock her out. They have also provided excellent care for a cat of mine as well.
