I picked a grilled chicken sandwich. When I got to eat it I found the ends of the bread were very hard and dried out. This would be a 2-star if it was located anywhere with better options available, but since it's in the Philly airport, it's eking out a 3. Because compared to nothing, or a Snickers bar, or a refrigerated seran-wrapped "sandwich" that's mostly bread, this place might qualify as "A-OK." (Well, the Snickers is a tough call...) It's a coffee counter spot with a case of mediocre-looking pastries, muffins, sandwiches and what they're calling paninis. The appeal here for me was that I wanted something hot, and these paninis (which were unlike any paninis I've seen before - long and very skinny - but whatevs) can be heated up in their insta-oven, in the style of Starbucks breakfast sandwiches. I couldn't find anything else hot around at the odd hour of morning I came through here, so bizarro panini was the winner. Be forewarned that the structural integrity of these sandwiches is nearly nonexistent, so you'll want to keep yours wrapped as tightly as possible, take a lot of napkins, and plan on getting a little messy. Taste-wise, mine was, you know, not objectionable. Okay even. Extremely greasy, but okay. Anyway, if nothing else is open, this place is a better alternative to places that also sell magazines and fast food options that sound positively nauseating when jet-lagged in the early morning. I stopped here in Terminal B at Philadelphia International for something for breakfast. I got a muffin for my wife and for myself I ordered a ham with cheese and egg panini. Both were good. The panini could have been heated just a bit more, but it was OK. Prices were OK for an airport. Who else has a captive audience like that? If you're in Terminal B and want some coffee or goodies, stop here. Traveling through Philadelphia airport in the early A.M. calls for a caffeine fix. There weren't too many places to get coffee near my departing gate. I was hoping for my regular chain of coffee but I was out of luck. Fortunately guava and java was there to help me out. The gentlemen preparing the place for opening was very friendly. Pricey. 7 AM on a Tue morning after a holiday weekend and the lines can get loooong. They have a good selection of breakfast sandwiches, muffins, juices, yoghurt parfaits, and of course coffee. We ordered a large chocolate chip muffin and a generous sized brioche Han, egg, and cheese sandwich. The brioche bread was tasty but the egg, ham, and cheese had no flavor at all. These reviews are so harsh based on what I experienced. For me it was a cute little high school girl who took my order and then promptly called it out to an older guy at the blender. Airport food, not much else to say. However, it is a little better then other options for the morning meal before your flight. Coffee is fine, juice is there, along with fruit and pastries and bottled water. Prices are a bit high, but not unreasonable for an airport eatery. This stupid place baffles me. With the replacement of Peets Coffee with a bloody Dunkin Donuts near Terminal E I've had to branch out to survey the other (sparse, lackluster) coffee options. The La Colombe coffee here is passable but weakly brewed. Bafflement #1: If you brother to feature a good coffee provider why brew their stuff poorly? Bafflement #2: you're a coffee place featuring coffee from a provider who is known for their cold coffee options. Why don't you serve iced coffee? Bafflement #3: your name has the word "guava" in it. I stopped here to grab breakfast before a flight out...my gut told me I should've gone to Au Bon Pain, but Guava & Java was convenient so I decided to try them out. Bad decision. Good: -They offer Siggi's yogurt! I've never even seen this brand outside of Whole Foods or Wegman's. What a nice surprise and a great way to start my day. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in this place. The service was exquisite. The staff was very friendly and energetic, even singing along to the background music which was fun. However, my latte and breakfast sandwich were so mehhh that I wouldn't go there again. I was deciding between Dunkin Donuts down the terminal or this place, and I love trying new places, and Guava has hot sandwiches (The Dunkin at this airport doesn't) but this is an instance where I should have gone with my gut! read more

Wow! This was probably the best latte we've ever had. And we're from San Francisco coffee heaven. I was struck by how clean and beautiful this little spot is. Staggeringly large croissants and baked goods. And warm staff. I was lucky to find it. Go out of your way to find this. It's right next to gate B1, just a tiny walk past the security clearance. Another disappointing location in this airport terminal. I can't comment on the smoothies, maybe they're delicious and what keeps people coming back. I can comment on the service when I came in to purchase a bottle of water. The gentleman ordering ahead of me was asking for recommendations on the very sparse bakery cabinet. The cashier could have cared less and didn't provide any insight. When the man did finally make a decision, the cashier knocked a cinnamon roll down in the case so it stuck against the glass. She left it there for the duration of time I was in the area. She couldn't be bothered to make her case look presentable, just like she couldn't be bothered to say hello or smile. read more

I think Stephen must have encountered different employees than I did...the one who "helped" me was beyond miserable. She mumbled everything she said and barely spoke. It was obvious I was bothering her. My whole wheat bagel was really good...I wish they had low-fat cream cheese in addition to regular, but oh well. The coffee was only okay. You know how confused you get when your red eye from the west coast to the east coast arrives early? It's dark. You don't know what time it is or how much you slept or how you arrived so fast. Is the car rental even open yet? This was my state when I stumbled into the Guava and Java in the Philly International Airport, a few days before Christmas. I ordered a coffee and an egg sandwich. Got to start the day with protein and caffeine, right? There was one employee at the counter. He was so sweet and calm and happy. The coffee was acceptable to me, a hard core coffee snob (I dislike Starbucks and Dunkin'). It wasn't amazing coffee but I didn't feel compelled to spit it out. When I returned to the west coast, I endured five hours of Us Air telling me to get on the plane, get off the plane, taking off, cancelled, come back in 2 days. I got a sandwich in the afternoon from guava and java. Tasty and again, two very polite, professional employees. Of course, the prices are airport prices but in two visits, I've found three great employees and coffee that I don't hate. I'll seek them out now. read more
