Mean and ableist. The bagels taste good when fresh but the staff are horrible. My mother used order them all the time, but stopped because of awful way the staff treat her. She has serious arthritis, so she needs the bagels cut. Every time she asks, the staff roll their eyes at her, make her feel horrible for asking. They HAVE a bagel cutter--sitting right next to their mean, strawberry-flavored bagel faces. So it's extra weird. Especially when they snap at her, "WE DONT HAVE TIME FOR THAT!!!" Even without debilitating arthritis, it's extremely messy having to cut a whole bag of bagels by hand at home, especially when they're covered with stuff. It's dumb. Like I wouldn't ever make a catering order because of they refuse to cut them--and we have lots of occasions to. Last time I checked, no one's dying over bagels, so, yeah, you do have time, to be kind kind. Time to be a good neighbor, time to not be ageist and ableist, and time to act like a normal person. Ran inside hangry looking for ANYTHING to eat. Decided on a classic egg and cheese on a bagel. After sitting on mute while throwing in a big smile here and there to show I am actively listening for 3 consecutive zoom calls this morning, I needed a bagel to reward myself for this life changing work. The homie mentioned this place was close and "pretty good," so I put all my trust in her. She ordered her bagel via mobile app because she is too embarrassed to ask for her bagel scooped out in person, and I wanted to order in person because I only fear God...and because I wanted no cheese on my bagel and I don't trust the little notes section in the mobile order to be read. The staff here is delightful, smiling and enthusiastically taking my order. I always get a BEC with no cheese, add avocado. "Johnny, you get a Bacon Egg and Cheese with no cheese?" Yeah I do because I am an individual with personal preference and the avocado gives the soft texture to make up for lack of cheese. Stop hatin. Also add some hot sauce or ketchup and it's immaculate. I waited about 5 minutes at one of the many tables in this place, among a few people jamming away at their laptops with their noise canceling headphones on. My anxiety of "damn i should be working too" set in and I whipped out my phone to begin writing this review. After typing and deleting the first sentence 3 times, my name was called. Great service. My BEC no cheese and add avocado was good as they provided ample bacon and like 2 FULL eggs. The only thing was I asked for it toasted and it didn't seem toasted. God I feel like a Karen even typing that, but I do love my everything bagel toasted crispy. I also think my expectations are F'd up from NYC bagels, as that has become my standard. Black Seed Bagels really just performs on a different level. Best bagels in nyc by a mile dont @ me. All in all, I love the Bagel Place and will be back. And what a GREAT name honestly. I'm not sure how I haven't written a review here yet. This is my FAVORITE bagel place in the city. The bagels are perfectly soft and chewy with a little crunch when toasted. The service is so friendly and unexpected from a place where the service is speedy. They genuinely care about their customers and even have kids books and toys to keep your child entertained while you wait or eat. Okay I LOVE the bagel place, I think it's cute, the location is great, always service with a smile, and I would love to come spend half a day working here from their comfy lounge area. But I had to knock a star off because their bagels really are hit or miss. Sometimes they're fresh, soft, not too chewy, and perfectly toasted. Other times my jaw pops out of place hammering on them. That being said, I LOVE their sando options. I am a huge fan of the lox cream cheese for a group, and my go-to individual sando is a toasted everything w/ jalapeño lime cream cheese, bacon, and red onions. I took two friends from out of town for lunch last week. We sat in a middle table. The bagels were good but pricey. There were 4 young kids, probably about 5 or 6 years old, that ran up and down the length of the premises for an hour, screaming and yelling, at one stage one of them was cycling on a kids bike and almost crashed into our table. The staff couldn't cared less nor the ignorant smiling mothers. Thankfully my friends are easy going and we ignored the fact that it was like being in a kids playground. The other diners didn't looked exactly happy either. It's a pity as it's such a nice place, the coffee remains truly DREADFUL. My neighbor says it has a burnt taste. This place mostly serves as a take out/ pick up over priced bagel place. The owner's remarks that it's a family place are ludicrous and laughable. The Bagel Place is a great option for either breakfast or lunch. Both the space and the food are clean and bright. It's an easy space to be in, and have a conversation or do some writing. The lox special is a particular standout...none of the cheap ends of the fish...all quality stuff. It comes with all the proper accompaniments: capers, red onion, cream cheese...yep. The smoked turkey is also better than many of the greasy sandwich options for lunch, and the cubano is not as weird on a bagel as you may think. And you're only looking at the $10-15 range for a nice lunch and a coffee (la Colombe, of course). Don't hesitate to give it a shot. read more

I'm not exactly sure why I had such a hard and persistent bagel craving whilst I was in Philidelphia... but I can tell you that I didn't just happen upon this bagel place. I sought it out in a similar fashion to an addict seeking out his next fix. It's one of the highest rated bagel places in Philidelphia, and for good reason. The bagels are delicious, the service is fantastic, the place is clean as a whistle, and that matzo ball soup #PlacesOpenPalmOnChestAndLooksAway. Man that matzo ball soup. That matzo ball soup gives my matzo ball soup a run for it's money, and then snatches its wig! I kept sipping at it and trying to figure out what was in it... being like... my matzo soup will become better if I can figure out what herbs/spices I'm tasting. Dang Honeychild! I got a bagel with everything on the side. I'm very methodical about my bagel set up. Gotta get the cream cheese on the side if you're toasting your bagel. And you should ALWAYS toast your bagel; brings the bagel to life. If you have them put it on, the cream cheese starts melting and all because you need to wait for it to cool down from the toaster. Also, I like getting some whitefish salad, tomatoes, and if I'm feeling indulgent (swiss cheese) on the side. That's Mike's perfect bagel. Everything toasted bagel, scallion cream cheese on top, white fish salad, then tomato, then swiss cheese. I know what you're saying. That's a lot of cheese. A nice, neighborhood delight! I love myself some good bagels, and this place delivered and left me feeling very satisfied. We ordered: Everything bagel, Egg bagel, Veggie spread, and Garlic & Chive spread. We easily placed the order online, and picked it up at the side window, as indicated by large signs around the establishment. The whole process was simple and quick. The staff were friendly and seemingly followed all the necessary safety precautions. Afterwards, we made our way home to toast and enjoy the fresh, soft bagels-- we couldn't wait! From the taste and look, their spreads seem to be homemade and fresh, but most importantly-- DELICIOUS!!! The spreads outshined the bagels, just a tad. I like my bagels with a little more chewy, goodness. Did the walk up window and placed an order for 4 bagel sandwiches. I was surprised at how busy this spot was for a weekday. Lots of people picking up orders. Which I do recommend call ahead just because we did wait about 20 minutes for our order by just walking up. We got a pretzel bagel, pumpernickel, everything and plain. All the bagels were good. All but 1 with scrabbled eggs. The other was a fried egg that was over cooked. I think it was probably ok when it first came out but Bc they wrapped it all up to go it continued to cook and be over cooked. Overall we were all satisfied with the bagels. They were good and chewy. The pretzel bagel with bacon and cheese ate a bit salty but I think that was Bc of the salty nature of bacon and cheese and more of me ordering issue then a them issue. In our 3 days in town we ate here twice. Would recommend. read more

Hands down the best bagels in Philadelphia. I've tried bagels from many of the popular locations, but like these the best. They have the texture I expect. Korshak makes good bagels, and the people there are very nice, but I just think these are better. Talia's on Girard also makes good bagels, and I like the spreads there. Philly Style Bagels in Fishtown was my least favorite (see my negative review). I've also had bagels from NYC. The ones from Zabar's were a big disappointment. Russ and Daughters had great bagels, but you have to wait in an agonizingly long line to get them. The Bagel Place is your best bet in this area. read more
