Let's taco 'bout Guayo's El Rey. Guayo's has been a part of my life since I was about eight years old when I moved to Miami, Arizona. We loved eating there any chance we could get. Mexican food in Globe-Miami is a way of life. The Guayo's family has perfected their menu. I go there for the hard shell shredded beef tacos and spanish rice. Anytime we go to Miami we incorporate Guayo's into our plans. I know so many of us from the area who drive 1-2 hours from the valley to Miami to eat. For my taste, this is the best Mexican food I have found in Arizona. When I try a new Mexican restaurant I order a cheese enchilada. If that is right, with the right enchilada red sauce, the restaurant is usually pretty good. Theirs was delicious. I also had a chili relleno, and a burro, which being from Colorado, I would call a burrito, whole beans, not refried. Both were very good. Miami is a bit of a drive from Mesa, but worth it for good Mexican food. read more

This is the best Mexican food I've had in Arizona. We don't even live anywhere near here (over an hour away), but I've eaten there twice so far this month. Friendly service and low prices! Green Burro or Chimi is a must have. Although I was told the enchiladas are better than everything. Our family tried the tamale, relleno, green burro, chimi, green chili enchilada, and a couple margaritas (also the best). Over 70 years ago, my grandfather and family would stop in Globe at the El Rey there for meals, lunch or dinner, depending on whether they were traveling to or from Phoenix. That restaurant became a legendary institution with the family for years, until the restaurant closed, then reopened, but was a pale image of its former self. Several years back, after a prior disappointing meal at the reopened Globe El Rey, we tried Guayo's El Rey in Miami, an entirely different restaurant. It's EXCELLENT and everything the other restaurant was food-wise in its heyday. Guayo's is delicious Miami/Globe-style Mexican food, with killer-good green chili burros, great enchiladas, crunchy tacos, ice-cold beer, and wonderful chips and salsa, including flour-tortilla chips, which always results in SOMEONE focusing only on those, eating more than their share. Luckily they're easily replenished, and with the fast service we've never had a major problem with flour-tortilla hogging. It's delicious food and the service is excellent. If you are old-timers to that route and remember and cherished the old place in Globe, then stop in Miami instead for your food fix. If you are new and near then stop in and get indoctrinated with some great Mexican food. It's not too hot, it's just delicious. And, either way, understand it'll become your own family favorite place to stop. It's so good we drive from Phoenix just for lunch sometimes. Yeah, it's that good. read more

I had heard a lot about this place from the offroad community/hikers who pass through Miami to and from adventures. Been hearing about it for years actually! We finally decided to stop in on the way home. I got the green chili burrito combo plate with a taco. The green chili was pretty flavorful but there was little to no meat in it! That was pretty disappointing since I was starving! Taco was, well, a taco. Nothing spectacular. The chips and salsa were pretty good though. We saw they had "Pablano Poppers" and got excited! They showed up as freezer burned run of the mill poppers. Again, super disappointing. Service was fine for how busy it was. Overall Id say I was let down. This was actually our 3rd choice for Mexican food in the Miami-Globe area. The other two places were actually closed on a Sunday, so we tried Guayos. I had the green chili burro chimi. Overall and compared to other Mexican restaurants in Arizona I've been to, I would say 3 stars, but giving it 4 stars because of the limited restaurants in the Miami-Globe area. Not the greatest Mexican food I've ever had and wouldn't make a special trip from Phoenix to go there again, but pretty good and a nice place to go if you happen to be in the area and need Mexican food. Definitely tastes more like a home made original recipe, than a corporate place. Service was excellent and food arrived very fast, and this was at noon on a Sunday. My only real gripe is that the green chili burro chimi I had, while very good and flavorful, did not have much meat in it at all. I guess I am used to other restaurants who fill their chimis with a lot of meat, and this is more like a home made recipe? But still, for the price, not bad, and the green chili was good, the guacamole was good, as well as the rice and beans. You get a small bowl of chips, which were good, and two salsas, red and green. We made the drive from Phoenix today. Nice view on the way up there. The food and service was excellent. Not very expensive either. We got 3 special beef burritos, 2 chicken tacos and tostada and a green enchilada with rice and beans. $38.00. Then we brought home a red chili burro with rice and beans and 2 green chicken enchilada's with rice and beans only $20.07. We will have to make our way back again sometime soon. read more

Yahhhh. Now this was some good food. Excellent start with excellent hot & mild salsa & flour & corn tortilla chips. I ordered a really tasty chicken chimichanga rice & beans. And a side sad limp kinda oily chili rellano. That was the only thing wasn't good about this place. Staff was kinda overwhelmed with a party of 30 something going on. Don't judge by the exterior. This place has some of the best traditional Mexican food throughout AZ I've had in a long time.
