This is the fourth holiday season in a row I've gotten our prime rib roast from Olivier's, so I'm long overdue for a review. The quality is always on point (you get what you pay for) and the process is easy to preorder. The main thing to plan for is the long wait in line to pick up your preorder. In prior years, I've usually picked up on Christmas Eve and the wait can exceed 90 mins to 2 hours depending on when you arrive - this is the case even when you doorbust at opening time. This year, we picked up on the 23rd and arrived around opening time, and it only took 30 minutes. There are also very high quality pantry goods to peruse and purchase, including pasta, mustards, spices, tinned goods, etc. Onto the meat: I preordered late this year so got 21 day aged prime rib roast (would usually aim for 45+ days), but honestly it was hard to tell the difference. I ordered the roast pre seasoned, cradled and tied for ease and it was very high quality, easy to cook and delicious. Shoutout to the very friendly and hardworking staff at Olivier's - I see yall fighting for your lives trying to control that line every year (lol). Thank you for your service! read more

When a few places you can get good cuts of meat. I'm not a big fan of a lot of the stuff being vacuum wrapped in plastic. But I guess they do that to make things easier for themselves. Be careful with the stuffed rabbit which has truffle oil in it, which is artificial. read more

My family tried Olivier's for the first time and we really enjoyed it! The shop is very nice, well stocked, and the staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. Also great to see the owners out in the shop helping guests - we had a lot of questions and they patiently answered all of them. We bought the whole chicken roti for dinner. Very easy to cook and delicious. My kids loved it and wanted even more. We also tried a couple different breakfast sausages and we also really enjoyed them. You can peer into the cutting room in the back and everything looks as clean as the store front. You know they're handling everything with precision and care. So what's so special about this place as far as the meats? Several different qualities of organic grass fed meats dry aged to perfection. Truly a home chef's dream. organic grass fed beef, aged to to 21 - 45 days, marinated single portions, and for home chef's advance bone marrow. Makes a great gift for your home chef or meat lover. Locals seem to walk over just to pick up a steak, or piece of marinated meat to cook for dinner. We also met people from the South and North bay who drove all the way over to pick up grass fed meats. Everything I have ever purchased from Olivier's Butchery has been superb, especially the aged holiday roast (other items purchased include steaks, bacon, sausage, lamb in a variety of cuts). As others have pointed out, that aged beef roast a popular item. You have to be sure to order it in advance and as it gets close to the holiday be prepared to wait in line a bit to pick it up. However, it's a superb roast and now an annual tradition for us. Congrats on the sale of the store and good luck to the new owners! I hope nothing changes. read more

These people absolutely love meat, and it shows. They know the cuts, they know the marinades. The product quality is high, and their pre-marinated meat is absolutely delicious. Definitely tell them what you're trying to do and ask for advice, they will have advice for you. They've got a wide variety of meat, including less common ones like duck, quails and rabbit. There is no seafood. The prices are not cheap, but it is one of those things where they are actually providing value for what you pay for. It is also by far and away the cleanest butcher shop I have ever been to. The only serious downside to this place is their days open are a bit odd - you have to plan ahead. They're only open Wednesday-Sunday. read more

So I just left Olivier's , I had gone in requesting 8 pounds of hamburger meat individually wrapped into 1 pound servings wrapped in butcher paper only cause I'm trying to avoid plastic...(my blood work indicates too much plastic in my system) the butcher said no problem went in the back got my order ready. I got into the car and just double checked because I had this feeling and sure enough everything was wrapped in plastic on the inside of the butcher paper. I took it back in to complain, they said they had to use the plastic to keep the meat off the scale which I get, I feel they could've just put one sheet of plastic on the scale and then weigh out the 1 pound portions of hamburger in the butcher paper already wrapped. They get one star for not being able to accommodate what I felt was a simple request.... I was a regular there, but won't be back. I will miss their pastrami. read more

Went there to get a good slice of steak for my dads bday and didn't know anything about what to get. The people in the store greeted me and were really helpful in helping me find a good steak in my price range. The inside seemed very organized with all sort of meat selections in the fridge's vacuum sealed. As I make my way to a bbq with some friends I took the obligation of picking up some meat to grill and was thinking about all the seasonings and ingredients I needed. It finally dawned on me that I have no idea what I was doing and remembered a buddy of mine talking about Olivier's. So, I walked into the shop and was amazed! Beautiful set up and awesome staff. I'm a sucker for the industrial look: steel beams, concrete walls and clean lines. On to the service: I was pleasantly greeted and asked if I needed help with anything and they directed me to the pre-seasoned section or had the option to chat with the SME (subject matter expert) on what types of cut to grill. I walked over to the fridges and was like whhhhhhut???? From duck to chicken to pork they had it all! Every cut you can image. Cheddar Jalapeño sausages - I could slowly feel my life energy rise from the spice of the jalapeño and the cheddar blanketed the love ensuring every last drop of energy was replenished. That's one dang good sausage. Probably the best I've ever had. Definitely trying this again, but next time I think I'd put it in a roll with hella sauerkraut. Pork Loin - to die for. This definitely beats your big box and even your local "trader" alternative option. The meat was fresh, marinated just ever so slightly. This was definitely a treat and you can taste the quality of the meat at a level of bar none. All in all (Borat's voice): "That's a very nice!" A truly remarkable place... dare I say BEST butcher within SF city limits!!! Lovely staff, eager to help, very clean space, amazing product with many grab and go, pre-marinated options. Complementary products like mustard, spices and pasta were plentiful! The only drawback for me was how the music interacted with the mostly solid concrete and metal surfaces. I was super excited to pick up my order after reading all these reviews. I ordered two steaks one 45 day dry aged NY and one Ribeye, the NY looks great and the ribeye does not. I am usually not one to complain, I worked in a high end meat department for 10 years and I've heard it all. The steak they gave me was an end cut with 66% of fat and I am not happy. Maybe it was an off day I might give it another try if they make it right. Review has been edited from one start to 3 UPDATE: So the manager called and said that she saw what happened and was so sorry she did not intervene, and took care of the ribeye. The NY looked fantastic so I have no problem paying for that. I am glad she fixed the issue, I will give them another shot. I don't complain about stuff like this and this is my first review. Fun place to splurge on raw meat and seasonings in the Dogpatch. The cases are clean and easy to browse. If you buy meat from places like Whole Foods regularly, then you should check this place out. Honestly, I didn't notice a huge taste difference from this meat vs. Safeway and such. It's cool to support a local business though. I really like that they have individual portions of meat that are pre-marinated and vacuum sealed. If I had a sous vide thing and a grill, then I would be in heaven. I also found some quality pork bones for broth that are not usually found in American supermarkets. Since Olivier's is a real butchery, they may not have specific cuts of meat ready on hand. You should call ahead to confirm if they've got it. Or order ahead if you have a big request. Or just let them surprise you. The guys were really friendly, helpful, not pushy which I appreciated, and were available when I had some questions. Parking is so random in that area. Sometimes awesome, sometimes not. Parking on a weekday that particular afternoon was such a pain unfortunately. I eventually found parking after circling the nearby blocks 5x. read more

This is a butcher shop that respects the craft and they're incredible at it. Love their prime aged steaks - can get 21 day, 45 day and sometimes 69 day aged. They have beef bacon which tastes better than regular bacon. The store is super clean, well labeled and the staff knows what they're taking about. Have had aged beef from other top SF butchers and unfortunately it's not good. They are the best in SF, additional things I've love to see: *more 69 day aged steaks - so tasty *aged filet mignon, have had it before and it's great *if they had a small selection of A5 Wagyu (believe they used to), this would be my one stop shop read more
