I will never stay here again. Guesthouse Inn & Suites came up as a very affordable option in our quest to travel on a budget. You get what you pay for...this is aimed at people who need a long term place to stay. Even so, front desk personnel did not offer a simple "hello" or "welcome" or "are you checking in today." Instead they were upset we had more people than we had originally planned for...hey at least we were being honest! They didn't have enough towels in the room and took forever to bring more. On the plus side, the water pressure is great, they have free wi-fi and huge animal heads mounted on the walls when you walk in the front door. The complimentary breakfast is really not exciting. I wouldn't waste your time and recommend heading out for breakfast. read more

I recently stayed here and I was bitten by a "bug". My hand was swollen and my arm had welts. I had a incident report filed with the hotel and had to contact the gm of the hotel and was given a insulting apology. I originally was asked how she could help me, and when I asked if she had read the incident report, then I was told it was a "hitchhiker" that I may have gotten from a bingo hall (don't play), taxi cab (we had our on vehicles), movie theater (nope) and a few other "excuses". read more

A lot of the problems here are mild. Yes, it's a little dinky, but that has a lot to do with how it was built. The staff that I talked to are GREAT. The housekeepers messed up in my room, by leaving the fridge on with the door wide open, didn't clean the shower, and forgot to put trash bags in my room. The shower was dirty as shit and the drain was very clogged. I'd like to think it doesn't happen too often. The neighborhood isn't so bad. Only a few sketchy/loud characters around outside. This hotel seems perfectly average. I wouldn't mind staying here again. read more

So we stayed about 6 nights total and had put a deposit that should have been returned every morning around 11:30 they call and ask if we were staying to come and make a payment we made a daily payment so after we get the ok to move into our apartment we decide to check out we had a animal but the room was spotless I cleaned it and made sure the only thing needing to be done was a quick vacuum and a bed change so at check out we go to ask for our deposit back and they refuse to return it because they said we didn't pay for the previous night we paid every morning at the same time that is bs but the woman in the front was so smug towards us just doing everything possible to make it seem like we owed them money which is pretty darn upsetting we paid for each day and they know it they called every day around 11 harassing for payment so how do they think we got past paying for a night DONT TRUST THESE PEOPLE THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!!! Wow. They should call themselves a motel! $170 for a night in this run-down, seedy, unfriendly establishment will surely send you packing your bags and running out of the area. My husband and I booked this room a month in advance because we were staying an extra day after our Alaska Cruise. The inn is located at the edge of downtown which is pretty isolated and abandoned. We were seen by two curt and unfriendly staff members who were staring at us while we struggled to get our bags out of the taxi. No hello, hi's or welcome. We were handed our key and sent to the dark corner of the hotel inconveniently located from the elevator. We get to our room and it is utterly depressing. The beds are so creaky, I could feel the springs in my back! The sheets smelled bad and looked dirty. The sheets on the bed were so thin, that I was freezing the whole night. Also, the heater didn't work and the lights were dim. Terrible service, horrible rooms. For this much money, they are ripping you off. I was so happy to leave the hotel and Anchorage altogether! read more

People often say they travel on a budget but apparently have never seen some shady stuff at these "budget" hotels. This place has a shady aura around it, just like every other budget motel you've ever stayed at. Same budget hotel rules apply to the Guesthouse. Don't talk to strangers, don't wander around aimlessly, all that good stuff. The nice thing was the staff were actually nice. We were greeted when we came in. We got the run down of the complimentary breakfast. The breakfast is located in a restaurant across the street and you can actually get eggs / hash browns / and toast for free. This shocked me since every other budget place has a free breakfast that consists of crusty muffins and a box of frosted flakes. This was definitely a plus. Also a nice bonus was the free coffee and water in the lobby at all times. The room isn't anything to marvel at. The carpet looks like crappy run down casino carpet but the rest of the room wasn't horrible. The greatest amenity was the bottle opener in the bathroom. Yes, that's right, bottle opener screwed in the bathroom. That definitely came in handy. Alaska is hip to the needs of drinkers. The nicest thing about the place was helping me find my fitbit. I had lost it in the room. I called later to ask about it and they actually looked for it. They asked me to call later as the sheets went to the laundry. Called back later and they actually found the fitbit and held it for me until I got back. I know it's a little thing but they actually took time to look for something that I had lost. They could have pretended to look for it and just told me they didn't find it but they put in that effort. The room rates we got ($40 a night!) were a steal with what we actually got. We've stayed at plenty of other budget places that were more expensive and you received less. This is definitely the better end of the budget hotels I've ever stayed in. read more

We came here after a long hunting and fishing trip near McCarthy. Kenny helped us at the front desk, and it was the BEST customer service I have ever had. We had a bunch of meat and were a little needy with things we needed. He was on top of everything and took a huge weight off our shoulders. He deserves a real pat on the back! Well... this place is kind of dingy and uncomfortable. The bed is alright, but the pillows are these thick, chicklet squares. To cool the room in the evening I had to open the window. The air conditioning unit is covered with an insulating blanked. I guess that's not too bad - but the cheap shower head, uncomfortable pillows (I ended up rolling up a couple of my sweaters to make a better pillow), and general dinginess mean that I'll be giving this place a miss next time. Also, no breakfast is included, even if you were willing to pay. Sad. The building is in a great location and in reasonable shape. With better management and a classier décor and maybe a breakfast this could be a real winner. read more

Dang. I never write reviews. The front desk folks were rude n it took 45 mins to Check in even though no one was ahead of us. We used hotel tonight app and that has my initial and last name (not full name). So when they looked at my license they said we can't check u in. We paid 250.00 for 2 nights and they are acting like they weren't trying to help solve the situation. We had the confirmation number, the booking info on my app, my credit card, n we called hotel tonight customer service and when we tried to pass them the phone, they wouldn't get on. The app folks has to call hotel to get things setteed. And it still took another 10 mins. Really really bad service. We stayed there last week had a suite 2 nights and regular room 2 nights upgraded when we extended our trip. Staff was very nice and helpful and housekeeping checked on us everyday like clockwork to see if we needed anything. I, have to make trips to Anchorage all the time for work and travel with a blind/ diabetic husky and they treat him like he his loved there by all the staff very rare in any hotel. We use to stay at Sheraton across the street would of never tried this hotel if it wasn't for them being booked last week , glad we did we will stay here from now on.. read more

This is the worst hotel I've experienced in recent memory. The staff were unfriendly and inept, the maids didn't finish our room one night, the next they didn't come at all. The one night out of three they did clean our room, the towels were improperly paced in the racks and as a result several,towels fell into the toilet. The carpets are stained & unclean, the baffles in the air conditioner in our room were all broken so the air conditioner was extremely noisy. I would have left immediately but I had been roped into a pay in advance, non refundable rate. Unless and until management upgrades this " hotel" - should be called motel - it's best to avoid this one. I certainly won't be back. read more

To make matters worse I called the front desk and told the woman, she responds with "What am I suppose to do about it?". I get downstairs to check out and there's a man waiting but no one at front desk to check out. Compared to the other reviews, I must have lucked out. Awesome staff, clean room, good location, great price. Maybe I'm just a simple guy but this place suited my needs and then some. The rooms are definitely modest but who cares, you should be out exploring the city not sitting in the hotel. The front desk was super accommodating, I showed up at 11 am with check in not supposed to be until 3 pm but they got in touch with the cleaners on the radio and asked for a ready room and boom, I'm in my hotel room right away. read more

Guest House is very simple and affordable, and I love it for that. Good FREE parking spots so you can walk around downtown and go to the mall or bars. Can't give it 5 stars because the breakfast is AWFUL. They give you a voucher for a restaurant across the street from the hotel, but it is not even worth the 20 foot walk. read more

Buyer absolutely beware. I won't stay here again. I realize it was a budget option but I've stayed at far less sketchy and more agreeable budget hotels. Airport shuttle took an hour to come get me at 10:20 pm which is apparently in between the shift change at 11. Front desk staff did the job ... though I wouldn't describe them as cordial. Blankets are thin, so are the carpets, towels and walls. Shower had good flow and was plenty hot. Even though free wifi in the room is good, I would not recommend for business travel; definitely not cool for families with young kids what with other guests of questionable behavior roaming the halls, blabbering into the wee hours and slamming doors over and over. Night manager was responsive to late night noise complaint and miraculously effective. The rooms are clean and include frig & microwave. Kudos to the jovial housekeepers for somehow keeping sunny attitudes. Other reviewers mention a free breakfast voucher but I thought that practice had been discontinued until Front Desk asked me about voucher. I said I never got one; they shrugged shoulders. Instead, at check-in I was informed of a 10% off at 2 nearby restaurants - only 1 serves breakfast. I didn't test either. Agree with those who say there is a shady aura here. I would avoid booking at other hotels under the same ownership/management umbrella. read more

I don't know why everyone is giving this hotel such a bad review. I actually enjoyed myself there. I booked through their hotel directly and reserved the bedroom I wanted without any complications. They offered free wifi, coffee, and laundry facilities. I also brought my little pup with me. Which they had already told me over the phone, it would be $10.00 plus tax. So, $11 something? No biggie. They even gave me a little bag with somedoggy bags and treats. That's a PLUS! Since I forgot to buy some on my way to Anchorage. Oops =P I can go on and on, on how convinient everything they provided was, but I'd prefer you just go in and see for yourself. On my next trip, I'm planning on bringing my daughter to throw her birthday party in their conference center. Yaay! read more

PLEASE READ! My rule of thumb is only to Yelp things where I have had a really great or really terrible experience. Let me tell you, this by far earns it! DO NOT STAY HERE- continue for details... My friend and I drove down from Fairbanks for her birthday; we were super excited and ready to clean up at the hotel once we pulled in to Anchorage to then go out for some fun. Upon check in we walked up to the counter where the front desk clerk was standing. He was not welcoming nor did he make us feel safe when he explained how the hotel charges locals more because this hotel has so many drug dealers and people walking out with their tvs. A little on edge, my friend and I finished checking in and proceeded to our room thinking we would be fine, we are in a safe part of town right? WRONG! When we returned from walking downtown we had to open the windows because of how terribly hot the room was. At 3 am we were woken up by a fight in the street right below our window. The fight went on for about 5 minutes between a group of people- they were screaming and smashing bottles while one of them begged for the other to stop hitting him. We tried calling the front desk and no one answered. Needless to say we were terrified! If it had not been 3am we would have immediately left but we were afraid to go outside and had no faith that anyone in the hotel would care! Good luck and safe travels! read more

Our adventure to the Guesthouse started yesterday with a friendly greeting from Kenny and Joe. Kenny was the voice on the other end of my phone who I spoke to regarding transportation arrangements once we landed at Ted Stevens Int. Airport. He radioed Joe to inquire his location from a drop off he was in route to at the airport. Luckily Joe was only 7-9 minutes away. 8 minutes later, The white van with green lettering pulled up to the curb and a man with the brightest smile and greeting helped us with our luggage and into the van. He shared stories of his family from Alaska, his two native names, one from his mother and one from this father. I wish I would have written them down as I cannot remember them but the name his mother gave him was one to encourage him to be funny and it meant "fall down" and the name his father gave him meant "great hunter or provider". He provided plenty of recommendations things to do, see and eat while visiting for the day. Once at the hotel, Kenny was behind the desk waiting for us. He got us checked in, provided a map of the area and circled some key places for us to venture off too. After much sightseeing and dinner, our evening rest was peaceful and comfortable. The Guesthouse may not have amenities that the big name hotels have but the comforts are like home. If I could suggest one improvement they rename it to Familyhouse inn as you do not feel like a guest while you are here. read more

Very disappointing experience at this way overpriced hotel. The room next to a busy street was very noisy which made it very difficult to sleep. This was not helped by an extremely uncomfortable mattress. The part of the hotel our room was in had no elevator service so we had to schlepp our luggage up a narrow stairway which was very inconvenient. The bed was terrible and they never changed the sheets or brought new towels. When we relayed our concerns they made no effort to correct any of the issues. I stayed for a couple of nights last week at Guesthouse Inn. I had booked through expedia and the rates were good, much lower than similar hotels. I was given a room at the top floor and was offered a choice between the one facing 5th ave and the one of on other side. Since we wanted Queen bed instead of 2 double bed I picked the one facing 5th Ave. There was some noise, but we were too tired anyway. The front desk person was really friendly and helpful. The hotel is pretty small and room itself was quite comfy, nothing great about it but was what you expect for the budget. We were just using this a place to sleep in and didnt spend too much time in the room as such and for that purpose this hotel was worth the money. There was coffee in the lobby and there was wifi too in the room, though signal was a bit feeble. They also had complimentary breakfast at Sizzlin Cafe right across the street and the food was good, much better than the continental breakfast rip off that most hotels offer. I guess I never expected to eat good hot food as part of 'Free breakfast' at a hotel, so this was pleasant surprise. Location was another plus for me as it was right in middle of downtown read more
